Remember Whens Day

  • notyourmomma 9 years ago
    Good Morning ODD.

Making coffee, HVAC coming back out to tweak the final installation stuff foe inspection. Put new batteries in garage door remote, now it works. Tomorrow I have a plumber bidding on bath repair.

Michelle, you are just banging yourself up, poor dear. I am naturally clumsy and always have a bruise somewhere. I love chicken salad too.

I have some little top sirloin steaks, I think I can fix one today. Succotash maybe.

Have a great day my friends

Good Morning Tina! You have a lot of projects on the go! (Love the thread title!)
I'd heard a week or so ago about a recall in the States on Two Buck Chuck, but today I clicked on a link that showed the brands of wines being recalled from 28 California wineries due to high levels of arsenic and I was quite taken back.
    http://www.wbir.com/story/news/2015/03/24/list-of-wines-cited-in-lawsuit-as-having-high-arsenic-levels/70364958/
I'm guessing that's not going to be good for California's wine industry. It'll be interesting to see how the story unfolds as I did see that one Winery (Trinchero Estates who I didn't even see on the list I read) responded to the allegations and said that their product undergoes testing by the U.S. Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), the agency that regulates wine, beer and spirits, and monitors wines for compounds, including arsenic, as part of its testing program. And they went on to say that they are also subject to comprehensive quality and food safety management systems to further ensure the safely of their products. They said they are actively pursuing remedies to defend against the defamatory statements.
I am so envious with your success searching out your relatives Joce! You've made great progress! I'd love to see the pictures of the manor house in Cornwall. How cool is that? I had mentioned that I'd done a free trial on Ancestry.ca awhile back but when I went to check it out again yesterday after the free 10 day trial they want $30/month. That'll give me access to International information. (Which I hope is decent) I'll probably break down and do it, but.....I sure wish I could figure out how to access ship's passenger lists and immigration information online without having to pay for it.
Not a clue what to make for dinner this evening.
Not sure what I'm going to make for dinner this evening. I think my back feels a teeny bit better this morning but I still look gimped up. :) Am probably going to take a run into town today. Jim needs a haircut and I need bird seed and a few groceries.
    Wishing everyone a great Wednesday!

Good luck on getting all those things done, Tina. Are you still going to sell or are have you decided to stay there? Just watch you don't put too much into the house if you are going to sell. Sometimes you just can't recoup it all back with the sale. Then if you buy again you might be replacing the same costly things again. Ending out costing more in the long run. Just saying!

As I recall they did have some ship passage logs on Ancestry, Janet? It seems Genealogy is big business these days they all want you to pay for something! have a good run into town this morning.

I am not quite sure what we are having for dinner tonight? Last night we had pork chops so it might be chicken?

Hoping everyone has an excellent day!

Good luck on your projects today, Tina! You certainly have enough to keep you busy. I remember the latest move we had. So glad when it sold. Renting was a pain for the short time we did have a tenant, they were military so we could leverage any problems thru their commander, but it was still a pain. When the water heater went out, I told her the guy would be there to fix it, but she sashayed off to go shopping and missed him. I offered to be there if she couldn't not be home, but that went over like a lead balloon - Bwahahahahaha! She kept her butt home the next time, as it was either that or no hot water.

Can I come to your house for dinner, Tina? Love sirloin steaks, one of my favorite! Wayne likes filet mignon (? Spelling) but at 24.95 per serving, we don't order it at our normal casual dining places.LOL!

Janet, your genealogy work must be fascinating! On my Mom's side, we go back the seventeenth century but can not make the transition from the arrival to the home port. World War II bombings and a fire had destroyed many of the records. Supposedly the founder of House Corners, Missouri was in the ancstory somewhere, but they can not determine if this was direct descendant or more of a cousin level. I am so confused on it that I don't recall which. On Dads side we can't go back much firther than three or four generations.

My maternal grandparents have a common ancestor about four generations back, so funny.

Well, my allergies are kicking up, and my sinuses are telling me it is time for Spring allergies to act up! The weather is calling for severe storms to hit tonight. Last night tornadoes formed funnels in the air, but did not descend, the turbulence factor will be worse tonight. Gee, I sound like I know what I am talking about.........NOT!

The things I'm fixing are necessary. Air conditioning is a deal breaker in Florida. A leaking tub isn't going to pass a home inspection. A family room with no lights doesn't show well. Painting and depersonalizing is necessary. But no major work, just delayed maintenance. I want it to be turnkey and get the best price. Fixer-Uppers in my neighborhood are a dime a dozen. Move-in ready is the key in this area. Joce, I know I won't recover money on the pool. But Olivia can swim while we work. That ought to cool her off. I hate my ceramic floors, but they are only getting a steam cleaning. I need new windows (double pane) but that is for the next owner.

Genealogy is very neat. Fred's family is traceable a few hundred years. Me, not so much.

For a man who did not want a service, Olivia is planning another ceremony to scatter Fred's ashes at sea, along with some of Tyler's. We have two receptacles, one a turtle and one a sun, that will float briefly and then sink. Completely earth friendly. Cousin Rick and my sister Sherida and sister Allison will all go on the boat trip to support Liv. I can't get in a boat. Sherida and Rick will be happy to be included.

Janet take it easy shopping, don't hurt that back any more than it is, dear.

Have you seen that TV show "Who do you think you are" on Sunday nights on NBC Joce? It showcases ancestry and is fun. We used to watch "Finding your Roots" which we also really enjoyed.
We've thought about buying a place to rent for income over the years Karen but we never did and the reasons are pretty much what you say. A pain. That's cool you can go back so far in your family tree. Sorry to hear your allergies are kicking in. Ugh on the funnel clouds. That would scare me for sure.
That's nice that Liv is honouring Fred. It probably makes her feel better to be able to.

    Hi Karen:)
I see Tina:) I just thought when you mentioned Liv wanted to keep the house the other day you had a change of mind. Nice that Sherida and Rick will be included.

Yes I have seen those shows, Janet.

Hi Joce. Your post was not on when I posted earlier, even with the refresh key! Internet is wacky, I guess.

It is nice that Olivia wants to do a ceremony, including her dad and brother, Tina. I think a good coat of paint and your planned touch-ups will make it sell nicely. People do look at that and don't always think of major redo items. Some of the HGTV redo shows are overkill, but a basic once over is always good.

Janet, our daughter is basket case when storms go overhead. We just hunker down in the basement if need be, probably four times in the 18 years we lived here, only once did it hit close enough to raise the adrenaline.

My battery on the iPad is down to ten percent so must go plug it in to recharge. Hope to have time to park in the sun room later and transfer some pix to the laptop. No ideas what for supper. Egg salad sandwiches for lunch, with a little smoked ham in them. And some garlic pickles (I HAVE to go find some more moonshine pickles - they were so good!) 💚

Liv still does not want to move and I need her to help on this declutter and depersonalize, so I'll have to be mum on the 'real' plans to sell. I think the scope of work is bothering her and I just have to make it tolerable. I don't feel well about it.

    Hello!
Love the thread Title Tina! Wow, it seems you have yourself very busy! The last three houses we sold we did the same kind of work, all worth it in the end! We left the windows of our last house to the new owners and priced the house accordingly. When we look at houses, I'm very big about the cleanliness, if the house is really dirty I won't even consider it because all I think is if they leave their house messy what else aren't they keeping up with maintenance wise? So even though this house has a lot of updates, 80's style in a lot of places, at least it was spotless and the furnace, hot water tank, roof and bathrooms were all newer. For showings, I had to remove every trace of dog, food and water bowls in a cupboard etc. You could easily lose a sale if the people are not dog lovers, so better not to let them see a trace of it ;)

I just marinated some chicken thighs in sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, honey and a little sriracha sauce. I'll serve it over sesame rice with peas.

I watch that show too Janet, I love it when they get to travel to their ancestral places. I wish we could all do that! How fun!

Hi Karen, Joce, Michelle!! Have a great day everyone! :)

Your lunch of egg salad with smoked ham and a garlic pickle sounded wonderful Karen! Hope you get some R&R in in the sun room. Ai yi yi on the interesting cloud formations. :( Stay safe!
Yum Shona, your chicken description has me wanting some badly.
Had a good jaunt in town. Picked up a 50 lb. bag of bird seed and got all the groceries I wanted. Got a good deal on a Napa cabbage so I can make that Asian slaw of yours that I love Tina. Jim got his hair cut.
I've got the pasta salad prepped and am just about to do up the sliders.
Saw my first red winged black bird of the season when we got home but now it's snowing outside again! Argh!

Forgot to mention where Jim and I dined for lunch today......COSTCO! We've never eaten there ever. Were getting hungry and had just arrived there and saw a sign that said "One hot dog and a 20 oz. drink plus refill $1.50" so we ordered two. I had A&W Root beer and Jim a coke. The hot dogs were HUGE and they had the regular ketchup, mustard, relish as well as chopped onion and sauerkraut! What a hoot. Lunch bill with taxes came to $3.15 for two people. Crazy!

When frank worked near the Costco he used to go there for lunch all the time. He would first peruse the aisles for free samples then have lunch lol
I didn't get the job at the town, they never called but I heard they hired internally. Bummer but I have an interview tomorrow it's a preliminary for a staffing company that had a job. Posted that was right up my alley. So I have to meet with them first but the guy I spoke to seemed impressed and thought I would be a perfect fit so far.
Raining here. My mom is on her way back from Florida as we speak. She isn't looking forward to the cold temps and all the snow on the ground.
Dinner was chicken sausages, peppers and onions with Italian bread. Yummy

All the bad storms went South of us. We got lots of rain and passing thunderstorms. GS is coming up to do sone work tomorrow, porch cleaning and maybe painting.

Too bad you did not get the job, Laurie. Hoping this one works for you.

Your Cosco lunch sounds so cool, Janet. Wayne seldom eats hot dogs but every once in a while I get the urge for one. I pretend II don't know what is in them and chow down.

Did not get to the sun room - we were staying close to the TV to hear weather updates.

Youngest GS is in an "academic reception" for honor roll kids. His head in swelled twice his normal size, I am sure. We are requested to attend. So cute.
