Samosa Sunday

  • notyourmomma 8 years ago
Samosa - An Indian snack of deep fried dumplings stuffed with curried vegetables. Most common of the fillings is potatoes or cauliflower with peas. Since we have been discussing all things curry. Aha, Curried Cod and Cauliflower in coconut milk. Just might be my dinner tonight.

Buenos dias mi amiga. A hearty welcome to ODD to our new posters. Please jump in the daily dinner talk. We welcome you with kindness.

No sleep night for me. Hopefully when you are awake, I'll be sawing logs.
Olivia is still at the Luau. She is whipped.

I'm pulling one of four turkeys to defrost. Plus a huge rack of ribs. It will be a few days to be smokeable.

Lola is attacking the TV again. Her new target is the chameleons in the paint commercial.......and any dog food commercial. She is certifiable. Pugs are a different breed of dog.

Hi, Up early or insomnia? ---- It's 20 to 12Here --- nearly lunch time. --- Funny how some dogs react to certain things on TV -- La Diva, a mongrel, often reacts to sounds then watches who made them-- Good luck with Turkey and Ribs --- I'll take the ribs thank you But Turkey -- take it or leave it -- probably my least favourite meat!!! -- mind never had smoked --- make a big diference?
Now I love samosas - veg and the mince and pea ones -- this may make a good filling -- Kheema Matar Mince And Peas.
Curry is one of my favourite meals make a number -- had one this week and another due Either above or Tandoori Chicken Nirvana.
Today sunday is paper day -- we get the Sunday Times -- have done for 50 years and spend the day Reading --- plenty to read!!! Just another do as Little as posible day!!! But never boring!!! Dinner --- Don't have a clue yet!! -- That would mean I would have to think ----- Too early for that ---- Enjoy your log chopping == taking frustrations out on logs is good idea --- Have a great day. cheers

Good morning Tina:) Good afternoon Don:)

Oh my gosh Tina, I got a little excited because I was thinking of champagne with OJ when I read your Sunday Thread title..LOL Mimosa not Samosa..sheesh, ya think I need another cuppa coffee or what? Lola is something else..she's such a precious little girl..Pugs are awesome )

Hi Don, I adore curry, my husband, not so much..I have made certain dishes, like Joce;s Easy Excellent Rice Curry using curry and he loved it, so maybe he does, deep down love the stuff:) Enjoy your day of reading...by the beach...have I told you lately just how jealous I am? hahaha

Rick still has some leftover ribs..he took a rack and some potato salad to an elderly gentleman neighbor of ours for his dinner last night...he loves Rick's ribs:) He's in his 80's I believe. We like to keep an eye on him from time to time, his next door neighbor does a good job of keeping him company as well..we cherish our senior citizens:) Good thing, cause I'm almost one:-D

I want to make soup today! It's cool here , 60F..so nice..it's going to be in the 80's all week then back up to the 90's by the weekend.

Morning! I love samosas Tina! The potato ones are my favorite :) I'm so sorry you are having trouble sleeping. I tossed and turned quite a bit last night myself. Yum on the smoked goodies you will have in a couple of days. Why do you have 4 turkeys lol!? Lol at Lola, she cracks me up!

Hi Don! I think Kheema Matar Mince And Peas would be a great Samosa filling! Lol, I think by “sawing logs” Tina meant she'd be snoring away :P

How sweet of RIck to share his ribs with the neighbors Marie :) We have an older couple that live across the street from us. They aren't in their 80's but I'm thinking early 70's? We always take them garden vegetables when they are over flowing in our garden...they love it, he always lights up his grill and starts grilling them all up that same day lol. Oh lucky you on your cool weather!!! I haven't been outside yet today or even looked at the temps. But I'm sure it's just plain hot.

Going to my Uncles house to swim in a bit and eat. I offered to bring something but he insist everything is covered. I may bring a little something anyway, but have to figure out what can sit in a hot car for over and hour as I am meeting a friend at the gym to work out before heading over there. Hmmm. Not making dinner since we will be eating around 3 or 4. Michael is working all day so I'll just bring him home some leftovers. Wishing everyone a great day!

I ADORE Samosas Tina. I've always wanted to try making them and we do prefer the baked version over the fried purely for health reasons.Ugh on no sleep. :( Nice on the Ribs and the Turkey! Our hosts last evening owned a pug! :) Her name is Belle and she is AH-dorable! Goodness! She is a wiggly, squiggly little ball of joy. She was barking and barking and barking when we first arrived and Heidi said "If you don't mind just going over to tell her that you really love her, then she will stop barking". LOLOL. And it worked! What a hoot! She was super well behaved for the entire rest of the evening.
You've got some nice curry recipes Don.
LOL Marie @ the Mimosa mix up. I could go for some Samosas with some Mimosas! Join me? :) Super sweet of Rick to take the neighbour such a yummy plate of food. He'd be all over it I'm sure! Nice on soup. What kind are you gonna make?
Have fun at your Uncle's today Michelle!
We got a decent amount of rain last night. The garden is happy. Enjoyed our dinner out. They made a coleslaw, a spinach and tomato salad and some b/s chicken thighs with a spicy sauce. Very yummy. A very fancy layer cake from a local Patisserie for dessert along with a generous glass of ice wine. It was very nice.
Am making a Brined Chicken for dinner this evening.

That brine but I only use 1/4 cup of kosher salt and no seasoning salt. And I think I'm going to do Luisa's
Heirloom Tomatoes With Panko Crusted Goat Cheese
as a side. May need to do a starch for Jim as well. He's heading off in just a bit to go see a baseball game with a friend.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Tina, I wouldn't have any idea about what to bring to the Foodie Party either! An excellent idea bringing the dog treats though. I am afraid I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to curries a little bit goes a long way for me.

Don, Lol I thought you might not have heard that expression before:) Enjoy your lazy day reading the newspaper. We don't bother getting one anymore since the internet has most of the news now.

Marie, We keep an eye on our neighbours as well. Frank across the street is 97 and still doing great. Most of our neighbours are elderly and Lol I guess they also keep an eye on me:)

Enjoy your day at the pool and as I recall your Uncle always puts on a nice spread, Michelle.

Shona, Excellent to hear Pete's boss is footing the bill for his Inter Provincial Certificate! His boss must really appreciate him! BRAVO!

Denderella is doing the laundry and things this morning. He has been as busy as a bee this morning. We are having pork chops for dinner with I am not sure what at the moment.

    Wishing everyone a pleasant Sunday!

Michelle, it's a good feeling to "share" isn't it:) So cool you share your fresh veggies with your neighbors!

Janet, haha I am having a glass of bubbly as we speak..without the OJ of course..no need to water down the alcohol:) I would LOVE to join you for Samosa's and Mimosa's..say that fast 3 times:)
I don't know what kind of soup to make , I wanted to make a meatball soup with cabbage (other than my recipe, I want to try something new) and have been searching recipes, but I don't have the ingredients for the recipes I found..I want to add a review to IMI! I keep going back to your Meatball Soup..one of the best meatball soups I have ever tasted:)

Joce, that is just so great your neighbor is 97 and still living in his own home! LOL on Denderella! That's cute:)

I'll probably just make a soup with the ingredients I have on hand and do an IMI review in the next couple of days using another recipe.....

Lol Don it's okay, I've only heard that expression once or twice and took me a minute to catch on too :) Just didn't want you to think Tina was in the forest chopping down trees :P

Too cute on the little pug Belle just wanting some love Janet :) Our neighbor has a Scottish Terrior, and although it's cute, it barks and barks and barks while it's in the backyard, and it has the highest pitch bark I have ever heard, almost like nails on a chalk board. Ugh. Wow dinner last night sounded delish! Oh and if only I like goat cheese, I would be all over Luisa's recipe.

Hi Joce, yes, my Uncle does always have a nice spread :) He usually does the meat and a couple sides and we all usually bring the rest, like appy's, dessert, rolls, maybe one more side. There's always plenty of food! Denderella! You crack me up :P :P

Meatball soup sounds good right now Marie, even if it is sweltering outside, but I could eat soup in any weather honestly!

Hi Tina, love samosa's! Lol at Lola, what a hoot! Jersey likes to catch the fish on the aquarium channel! (it plays music and shows a live salt water aquarium)
We had Curry yesterday, Don's Dqs Jalfrezi Style Chicken Curry, IMI review: Jalfrezi Style Chicken Curry Very Good! Your Tandoori Chicken Nirvana is next on my list, maybe in a couple days, lol ;)
Thanks Joce, Denderella, that cracks me up!! Lol ;) That's so great he helps out! :)
Janet's meatball soup looks sooo good Marie, I remember when someone else made it not too long ago, I have to put that on my short list!
I'll join you too Janet, for the Mimosa! I don't think I've ever had one, hmmmm, yep don't recall it! Wow, I thought I've tried everything! Enjoy the baseball game :)
Enjoy the day at your Uncle's Michelle! :)
The smokey haze is back, comes and goes. BC had a HUGE wind storm, many many trees were uprooted, I can't believe how bad it was. Maybe the dryness they've had made it easy for the trees to uproot? We're getting the same storm coming through this evening, we will be getting the outdoors ready...Batten Down the Hatches!
Tonight will be Pork Tenderloin Stuffed With Spinach And Feta with a Greek Salad

Are there fires there Shona? Or near by? We have smoke often from the wildfires going on in northern California...

Oops....forgot to check back what went on in here last night. :)
Good for you on volunteering to be Caiden's Team's Mom Michelle. :) Sounds like a lot of work! You won't mess anything up. You'll be awesome! I hope it works out that Caiden and Bri's games are staggered. Those sausages sound incredible.
Cool on the Foodie Cocktail party Tina. I think the gourmet dog treats are perfect as a Hostess Gift.
Excellente that you scored some Garam Masala Shona. I'm lucky in that our Sobey's carries it no problemo. Did the kids like the curry? Cute on Jersey wanting to catch the fish on the Aquarium Channel. That's funny! Good Luck with that storm tonight! I bookmarked that Pork Tenderloin recipe. Looks very yummy.
Yum on porkchops for your dinner Joce.
Thanks for the kudos on my Meatball soup recipe Marie. I love that one too. Especially since Michelle told me about adding parmesan rind. YUMMMMM!
Mimosas and Samosas for everyone! :)

Hi Marie, the fires are in Washington state I believe, there are some in the South of BC in the Okanogan region too. The jet stream and winds are just blowing it my way--the smoke is affecting Central BC, all of Alberta, Sask and now into Manitoba! Most of Western Canada.
    I must try that soup!!

I don't mind one iota Marie! :) Let me know how you like it and maybe I'll try it that way sometime too. I do love cabbage.
Did a lot of work on Jim's family tree this afternoon on his Dad's side. Now just watching a movie on TV called "P.S. I love you". A chick flick for sure. :) Made a toasted tomato and bacon sandwich with lots of mayo for lunch. Yum.

    Hi, everyone..

A good samosa, followed by a HUGH mimosa - or a 7 and 7 - or Kahlua and anything - suits me fine. Our friends have gone, and we are both ready to nap. (I sneaked a quick look at GR.) Silver Dollar City was wonderful, the groups were amazing. Love the Sons of Silver Dollar! We bought 3 of their CD's. Also The Browns were super good! We bought two CD's from them. Found the woodcarver guy and bought the carving for Wayne.

My yes are forcing themselves to remain open so I better scoot and take a short nap. Both of us are wore out from yesterday!

It is pouring and the back yard has standing water. And yet, I can smell my neighbor barbecuing. It is his Sunday tradition. Smell so good.

Liv got the job at BonAire. She is happy. 3 days with BonAire and two days @ Toasted. She made $250.00 last night at the Luau. She said the "stunt pig on a spit" made her sad. "Babe got cooked" were her words. Today is "Bartender Wars"

A smoked turkey is delicious. Very much different than a roast bird. How did I end up with 4 turkeys? Well, in the restaurant business the owners tend to give a turkey to the employees as a Christmas gift. So, Allison gave me hers, Olivia got one and Marc got two! They all ended up in my freezer.

Michelle, I hope you have fun at your uncles. Sounds like a yummy spread. My Skippy has a high pitched bark that makes your hair stand on end. I'd love to be presented with a garden basket. That is special to share.

Joce, love pork chops. I did get a gift from Amazon for the cocktail party. A set of cheese knives and little porcelain labels so you can identify the cheeses and a very cute fabric tote. Denderella is a champ!

Janet, that is funny about Belle. They are the wiggliest breed. I want to try baking samosas. I quite like the mimosa without the oj. I'm with Marie, why dilute the champagne? I like that brine. Yum on goat cheese.......I broiled my mission figs and topped them with a chunk of goat cheese and a drizzle of honey on Wasa crisps for my dinner one day last week. It was so good.

Don, you have some spectacular recipes. You must be sawing logs yourself by now. Your day sounded lovely. Reading a newspaper is a joy that I miss.

Marie, I hope you had a very relaxing day. Like all others, how nice to keep an eye on your neighbor. Nice people doing nice things for others is a good thing. I have bookmarked Rick's rub for the ribs.

Shona, so sorry you have smokey skies again. I am happy you found the garam masala. I'm on quite the curry kick lately. I have a jar of green curry paste in the frig just waiting for some chicken thighs, peas, cauliflower and coconut milk. Cilantro rice?

Karen, I'm so happy you had a good day at Silver Dollar City. I'll have to check Youtube for those groups.

Well, the new tropical storm to watch is named Fred. It is developing East/southeast of the Cape Verde Islands. My Fred is giggling. Charlie Brown is highly insulted that he got drenched in the downpour. His bladder or get wet. He came in and immediately turned his back on me and I'm getting the cold shoulder.

    Hugs all!!

Janet, the cabbage worked out very well in your soup! I still like your meatball soup without the cabbage better though:) I just had a small head of cabbage I needed to use up and still didn't use it all..maybe some coleslaw needs to be made tomorrow?

Karen, I bet you 2 are beat! Sounds like you had such a good time!

Tina, wow on the standing rain water in your yard..Holy Moley..
Awwww, I just bet Fred is giggling at the tropical storm named after him:) Is that storm headed your way? Stay safe my dear:) HUGS:)
