Santa Baby Sunday!

    Good Morning Everybody!
Val....so nice to see you yesterday! Do indeed hope to see you in ODD more in the New Year! Merry Christmas to you!
How'd the Grocery shopping go Lori? And how's Bryan feeling this morning? Is it tonight you are having Jason and his family over or next Sunday?
Your new Sound Bar sounds like a lot of fun Joce!
That End of the World Party sounded really nice Dahlia and lucky you for Steaks and Quesadillas on the Griddle! That's excellent! The wreath you made looked like A LOT of work but it sure is pretty! Did you take pictures of your Christmas tree vegetable tray or the penguins or the cupcakes? They sounded adorable with silver and gold sugar and snowflakes. I had little plastic gold snowflakes strewn on my dining room table last night and they were really cute too! :) Can't wait to hear how it all turned out! :)
Marie...hope your Internet is back up today properly. I am following this person on Pinterest and Facebook who is in Rome over Christmas and they posted this picture of a Panettone Truck in Rome. It's one of those little three wheeled vehicles and I don't know if it's just used from a bakery to deliver or if they sell out of it? But it instantly made me think of Rick. Can you picture him driving up and down your mountain side in this pink little truck delivering his Panettone? NOT!!!! ROFL!
Oh Laurie....only two more days and you're done with this crazy work schedule of yours. Are you off for a good stint after Christmas? I am so envious of your three compartment food server. Those are the coolest and I honestly can't believe you got it for ten bucks. That's simply insane and never heard of here. Never.
And awww......Tina...what a lovely, lovely surprise indeed to walk in the house and find your Christmas tree all decorated by Olivia. That's so sweet! :)
My evening went very nicely. The
    Poor Mans Caviar
was so fresh and yummy. Hadn't made it in awhile and forgot how good it is! :) Baked potatoes, awesome steak cooked perfectly by Jim on the BBQ and a nice Spinach Salad with cranberries, pecans, eggs, etc. I posted the recipe of my dessert, the Orange and Almond Mousse. Served it up in little Christmas cups and it looked pretty cute.
No clue what I'm doing for dinner today. We may get a bit more snow flurries this afternoon but not a lot. Jim and Benjamin are heading out to pick up a few more stocking stuffers. I'm going to light a fire, put on some Christmas carols, and bask in the Christmas spirit. Have a lovely day everyone!

Love the Pannetone truck, how cute!
I don't think I've had enough sleep. My head is splitting. Can I get by on five hours for the next three days? Ay yi yi

Nice that your dinner went well, Janet. I don't think you can go wrong with a steak dinner. Poor Mans Caviar is delicious. I love the vinegar punch.

We're having turkey subs and soup for supper. There is a huge pot of navy bean with ham (Not so senatorial bean soup) in the frig for lunches and munches.

Fred's gone food shopping for me. I'm making three more batches of cake mix cookies, heath bits and chocolate chips....almond lemon.....eggnog and rum. No apologies on using a cake mix....they are just so easy and adaptable.
I have to cook tomorrow morning for Christmas Day. Chicken Liver Spread
Garlic Cheese...purchased a jar of corn relish, and I'm making a batch of Dad's breath killer as well.
Caprese salad with a basil mayonnaise for our salad
Fluffy horseradish sauce for the steak
Brandied button mushrooms for a side dish
Garlic Butter for the French bread
    and lemon bars from Pinterest,

Allison is manning the grill for the London broil and she is making double stuffed potatoes,

We are skipping the midnight food fest, Christmas Eve. Fred and Liv are taking pity on me and letting me come home to sleep, Although I am more excited than Liv is for Christmas gift giving. I can't wait to see her face.

Time to get your Merry Merry in gear! Hugs to all. Is it really Sunday?

Glad your dinner party went well Janet. It started to snow here again before eight this morning and it hasn't stopped! I hope it isn't going to be one of those years like I think it was six or seven years ago? When we got dumped on so much that we hardly had any place left to put the snow. Let alone trying to see anything when backing out of the driveway. Good luck with your last minute shopping and be careful driving out there.

Tina, Have a good shift at work and that was so sweet of Liv to have the tree up and all decorated for you. I hope your headache is gone soon too. Pace yourself tomorrow that is a heck of a lot of cooking to get done tomorrow morning!

Marie, I am so pleased you liked the rice dish and thanks for the nice review.

Laundry today and I am making brownies and date squares. We will have pork chops and applesauce for dinner with tators and veggies easy peasy.

Hoping everyone has a good day!

Just got off the phone from talking with my Mom. Makes me sad she doesn't live closer so could join us for Christmas Day. It's just too hard for her to travel in the Winter time and we put a ban on Christmas travel when Benjamin was born.
Hope your head feels better quickly Tina. Your dinner sounds yummy. I'd like an easy dinner tonight myself. Nice of Fred to head out for groceries. Hope it's not too much of a Zoo! Yum,yum on all the appy's you're making for Christmas. LOVE the sound of the fluffy Horseradish sauce and the brandied button mushrooms. You know I live vicariously through your food descriptions hey? :) Merry,Merry back at ya' and yep....it's Sunday! :)
Well Marie...if you need a bit more snow seeings yours is melting, Joce has sent me hers from Perth!!!! It's beautiful really. Big,fluffy flakes. I've bookmarked that Curried Rice dish now. I think Jim will really like it especially.
LOL Joce....I hope it is going to be one of those years like 6 or 7 years ago when we did get all that snow! :) It was soooooo beautiful! :) Jim is like you though, and was looking forward to heading to California to escape this weather a bit next month but it now looks like we won't be heading back 'til February. I'll book us a ski day and that'll make him happy! :) Your house is going to smell wonderful with all that baking going on today!

Oh, BTW Janet..I think I might know why the peanut brittle burned a little bit..mine did the same today..I bought a new glass bowl and it was smaller than the other one I used...my new one holds 7 cups, so I'm thinking we need bigger bowls to do the brittle ....Rick mentioned this and I think he may well be right:)

Awfully quiet in here today....can tell everyone is going strong on Christmas preparations! :)
My Mom lives in a little town called Rainy River on the border of Ontario and Manitoba Marie. It's a 20 hr. drive. I checked out your chicken dinner link. Not sure how it went down but it's related to
    Liezels Million Dollar Chicken Recipe
which I see you've made before as well. Great recipe. I should short list it myself. Sorry to hear you're getting bad weather. Still really pretty and snowy here. I bet you're on to something al-right with the peanut brittle and the bowl size. My bowl was medium. The contents didn't overflow but it was concentrated on the bottom and I suspect that if it had had more room to spread out indeed it may not have burned. I'd really like to try it again. Will have to dig around for a different bowl as I don't want to go out and buy one just for one recipe! :) Jim tried a nibble and ate a big piece even though it tasted a bit burnt. And he doesn't eat sweets much at all but has a soft spot for the old fashioned treat of Peanut brittle.

Wow, 20 hours! that's too bad...I feel so fortunate that my family lives 40 minutes or so away...The million $$ chicken recipe your talking about is exactly the same I'm thinking..need to check on that:) I do have a bigger casserole dish that's pyrex i should have used..I'm just afraid it will crack as well!!! It is quiet here today...we're not doing much, too wet to go anywhere, we will deliver the panettone and burnt peanut brittle tomorrow,,my dad will love the PB even if it tastes a little burnt lol

    Hey all
just got home from Macys yup the season is over for me! I have Christmas eve off from Macys but just have my morning WW meeting tomorrow.
So a happy turn of events (kind of ) on my aunt and the bird situation. My mom was chit chatting with a customer (she is a waitress in a diner) about pets and she told the story of my poor aunt and her bird. Well, the guy says this is crazy but my best friend and wife are giving away the same kind of bird (yellow nape parrot) He is just too much work for them he is about 20 years old (they live to like 100). So my aunt drove to NH today to "meet him" and came home with him. Now the crazy part. Since my aunts bird was 26 when she got him as a baby my cousin was probably about 5 and his name is Brian so Bo my aunts bird constantly yells out "brian" even though brian is 30 and living on his own. The owner of the new birds name.........................................Brian and the new bird Getty yells out Brian all day long :)

Finally sitting down before this day is over. Made the elf rounds and delivered the spice baskets. That was a nice drive around. I hopped out of the car and Brian and Dad sat inside. While visiting I found out that Christmas is not just Dowlings it is an almost full clan gathering. So smaller than Thanksgiving but still LOTS of folks. That gave me a jolt that I did assignments for the Christmas buffet.
I did the prep tonight for some major cooking tomorrow. I was assigned Brussels Sprouts but had forgotten all about it. Mister went to the grocery for me so I'm going to be making Jo_jo_bas Brussells Sprouts which feature Caramelized Onions . I'm wondering if I can make those a day ahead and assemble the brussels Christmas morning for our gathering at noon.
I'll be roasting a turkey tomorrow for Christmas Eve dinner for just the three of us. That will let me make some of the sides I'll take Christmas day with the clan and enjoy them fresh from the oven. So I'll be having my Braised Red Cabbage With Cranberries and Butternut Squash With Apples And Cranberries with tomorrows Turkey dinner. Brian is in charge of mashed potatoes and corn. Sounds like way too much food but I see turkey leftovers to come.

Home finally. Fred did not find all that I need to fix my dishes, so i'm getting up in six hours and running to the store.

Yes, Laura, cook them separately and combine on Christmas Day. I do that as well.

So funny about the bird.....yelling Brian. Just shows that it was meant to be.

Have my cottage cheese draining for the garlic cheese. I'll tackle the rest tomorrow.

Hugs to all. Merry Christmas Eve!
