Saturday, the 1st of August!

Good Morning Everyone! Gonna be a hot one again today, sigh, and then tomorrow we're supposed to be getting some rain and cooler temperatures. I've got to get outside first thing this morning and mow some of the lawn.

    Going to make
    Peruvian Grilled Chicken
for dinner this evening along with a tossed salad as a side.

A shame your dinner out wasn't so great Kimmer. :( More so these days too I think because the majority of us aren't going out as often so if the experience is disappointing it makes us even MORE disappointed!!! I love Cubans! Did you get your popcorn fix and what movie did you watch?

    Wishing everybody a good Saturday!

    Good Morning Everyone.
Sun is out and the sky is bright blue. It's very warm though but weird we haven't gotten any rain in the past 2 days.

The tropical storm has turned into a category 1 hurricane and this morning's news shows it going up the east side and no part of the cone is hitting our area.
Last night's burgers hit the spot and as usual I haven't a clue what to make tonight.

Hope you get the lawn mowed before it gets too hot Janet. Grilled chicken sounds great for dinner!

We've ditched so many restaurants Kimmer because of lack of quality or some other reason and this was before the pandemic. We haven't eaten out in a long time and have only gotten take out pizza a few times. There are a ton of restaurants here but none really that shine. Sorry you had a bad meal out.

Very glad to hear the hurricane is totally going to miss you Linda!

Well I can't mow anymore because I was just dyin' in that heat. I was hoping to get more than half done but I didn't so that leaves the majority for me to do on Monday. It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow and be cool. But at least I got a lot done and it looks good. Gonna take a shower and clean up and then prep the chicken with the rub. Probably do some packing this afternoon and a quick sweep of the floors. I decided not to do a huge house cleaning because I'll do that when I get back home anyway.

Think I might pan fry some dumplings for lunch. Jim's working away on his retaining wall. He had trouble with getting some stones in properly and it's taking him longer than he was hoping it would.

Hope the retaining wall installing goes smoothly after those stubborn stones not wanting to fit in. Peruvian chicken does sound good. It is cooler here and we had a total of 2 inches of rain over the last few days. Heat returns at the end of the week.

Hope the hurricane stays away, Linda. We ate out at a German restaurant yesterday -- only one car in the lot and it was their slow time. Servers wore masks. So did some of the customers who were there for pick-up orders. We had Kaiser Schnitle, in a mushroom cream sauce with German Scpaetzle noodles. I love their salads -- all vinager-ish dressings on the green beans and slaw, and your choice on the lettuce. Wayne hates the green beans and their slaw so I snagged his green beans.

There are only a few places we have eaten inside -- nixing any that are crowded or cater to travelers (esp. buses). With the current upswing in cases we are tending to favor drive-thrus more and eat-at-home a lot more.

Got to go. Am canning tomatoes this afternoon. Moan moan. Have a nice day..

I am most envious of your German meal Karen! I haven't made Schnitzel in a long while and I'd love some. LOVE spatzle. I should pack my Spatzel maker and bring it to RR. Thanks for the thought! :) I'm also envious of you canning tomatoes. Love to do things like that although I don't like to do it when it's humid and hot. I remember one year I had so much steam in the kitchen from canning that I had to wash all the walls as they started having drip marks on them. LOL. How many jars will you make up?

Maybe the rain will come late enough tomorrow Janet that you'll be able to mow in the morning. I love the way a fresh mowed lawn looks but it doesn't last long at all. Hope Jim gets the stones set well enough in the retaining wall.

Glad you are getting rain Karen and everything isn't drying out too badly. Lucky you that you ate out at a German restaurant, a good German restaurant is my favorite, I never get tired of the cuisine. Do you have a lot of tomatoes to can?

Oh-My Janet on your dripping walls. I've never canned but my mom and aunts did and would get together and make a day or two of it. They would share the tasks … one would peel, another would chop, etc. They canned all sorts of things back then. Tomatoes, vegetables, jams, fruits.

I believe we need a new mattress. I am tired of waking up with achy hips because that spot in the mattress is worn. I pulled out our paperwork and the mattress is 13 years old. It's a Tempur-pedic and I'm not sure if it's meant to be flipped or not (I don't believe it is) but we washed everything and flipped it anyhow. I'll see how it feels sleeping on it tonight before running out to get another.
Pulled out chicken breast to thaw and will slice it thin, rub with olive oil, season, and grill. I made a three-bean salad but it's a little different than a traditional one made with sugar. I seen it posted on FB and thought it looked good so I bought ingredients to make it yesterday and made it today. I like it but know DH won't. So I'll make him corn-on-the-cob and I'll have it with dinner and I'll make us both a tossed salad.

I love canning and preserving. There's just some calmness or pioneer spirit in there or something that I really enjoy. I haven't done a lot over the years and let's be honest....on the whole fresh always tastes better, but if I had someone I could make home made jams and jellies for, pickles and canned goods, I'd be doing it for sure. :) I remember one year my Mom made home made relish. The kitchen smelled SO good I couldn't believe it and I don't even like relish!!! LOLOLOLOL.

I'm with you in the 'need a new mattress' category Linda. When Jim and I get back we need to go shopping for one. Ours is about that age too I think and Jim has flipped ours end for end, but still. I think I read once that mattresses should be replaced every ten years. Your dinner sounds very summery!

I love home canned jams and jellies, and tomato everything's. I did 8 pints of just plain tomatoes. Plan on fixing a tomato sauce and freezing it since I have LOTS of green pepper and celery to use.

Wayne power washed the front porch and patio by the bedroom, same to my tractor -- birds are nesting over it in the barn and all I can say is thank goodness for the "roof" over the seat. He moved the old, broken pots away to get rid of so they don't make the patio look bad. He is tired and sacked out on the couch.

Should have located the canned tomatoes elsewhere - I have to move them and really don't like doing that within the first 24 hours. Live and learn.

Daughter is still not well -- doctor thinks it MAY be mild COVID. I am so tired of COVID-19. The couple with the COVID-positive GD has also tested positive. I did read that some people getting false positive test results never even showed up for the tests. Aargh! Enough Corona alright.

Off to make a salad for tomorrow's potluck and fix dinner. Maybe hubbard squash? Or be lazy and do a Schwan's dinner? Ha ha. Have a great day -- or what is left.

Good evening and hello to all. My Grammie always canned stuff. And of course us kids had to help. I just never really got into that much. Horribly hot here today. Sounds like Wayne deserves a rest on the couch!

Steaks on the grill tonight with a potato, onion and mushroom packet.

Hope all enjoy the rest of this Saturday.
