Saturday Sleep Fairy

  • Good4U 5 years ago
Well, the sleep depravation fairy has been visiting here for quite some time now and it looks like she is staying here for a while yet to come. My arm and shoulder are still giving me grief and from what I have been told and read it can take months to heal. Oh well, such is life.

I hope you don't have any more reactions, Karen and that you are feeling better today. Bummer on the weather in your area making Wayne fuss so much. I hope Fritz gets his jacket back soon. Poor wee boy.

Glad your lunch went well yesterday, Janet. Lol, I couldn't imagine going out for a hot tub I would have icicles everywhere:) I am sure if I ever had a hot tub it would be enclosed somehow so I wouldn't have to endure the elements and bugs as well. Yes, it has been colder but I haven't noticed b/c I haven't been out at all. Driving bothers my arm so it isn't pleasant at all to go out. Den goes for his next tests on Wednesday at KGH Heart Clinic. I will go will him so far so good with his tests.

Take a pic of your soap Linda. I am sure it is gorgeous like all your soaps.

Oh wow to be at the beach every day in Hawaii, Laurie. She is so lucky! Maybe the other girls are local girls as well and go home most of the time too? Bonus for her if they do. Lol, Moms always want to know that our kids are eating well. I am sure she is doing just fine.

What are you up to today, Michelle? Lol, Busy no doubt as usual:)

Den will go grocery shopping once he gets up and has a coffee or two. Maybe he will bring home MacDonald's now that could be a plan:) I will probably get a nap in some time but it is hard to keep my arm straight and keep off that shoulder.

    Wishing everyone a great Saturday!

Hi Joce. I also experienced a visit from the no sleep fairy again, but it is likely related to chemo drugs, or maybe they assisted. LOL! Woke up at 3:30. Poor Fritz is not enthused about long walks in this weather, for sure. This is day three after chemo treatment and it is not bad at all....yet!

Too bad you are still in pain. Hoping it clears up sooner than you expect. I have forgotten the diagnosis ....bursitis? Prayers for healing.Yes, I agree an enclosed hot tub might be nicer. I am not a hot tub fan but Wayne likes it. The warmth might feel good on your shoulder, though.

We have about three inches of snow instead of five plus....it went further north. There is a coating of ice on the trees so probably another quarter inch of ice / sleet / etc. has fallen. More expected today but no trace yet.

Yay for Den and McDonalds breakfast. We like to eat breakfast there or at Hardee’s on Sunday mornings on the way to church. I like the oatmeal at McD and the pork chop and gravy biscuit at Hardee’s.

We are not going anywhere today as our road is probably all ice and the highway not plowed. Plus we would have to take the gray truck, which he has NOT replaced the step and with arthritis in is is next to impossible to haul myself in. The step has been broken almost a year .... typical male! But he does look after me and is quite protective, so I can’t complain.

Our neighbor braved the start of the icy roads and fought lasagna, a salad, and ....so cute....chocolate twinkies for dessert. She has worse arthritis than I do and baking is not as easy for her.

Have a nice day and hope you feel better.

Maybe we have twin no sleep fairies, Karen:) Glad you are still doing O.K. Yes it is bursitis in my shoulder and tennis elbow as well. So nice of your neighbour to bring you lasagna, salad and cute chocolate twinkies for dessert. I hope the roads are not as bad there for you today. I hear you on getting in and out of a truck without a step. My son has one of those Volkswagon Tiguan whatever you call them and it is hard for me to get in an out of it. Very nice vehicle though, with nice plush soft leather seats and a rosewood dash no less. It is very comfortable to be driven in once I get in there:) I should try and make some muffins today. I would be the one-armed bandit though:( Maybe Den can help me?

Hi Joce! And Good Morning! When I saw the thread title I thought that it was poor Karen again having a battle with the Sleep Fairy but like you say, perhaps you two have twin no sleep fairies. :( I`m so sorry to hear you are having troubles too and that your arm and shoulder are giving you so much grief. :( Glad to hear Den is doing okay and Good luck to him on Wednesday.

Morning Karen! Drats. You too eh! Glad that you`re feeling not bad today though. I don`t even know if our McDonald`s serves Oatmeal. How nice of your neighbour to bring you such a lovely meal! I wouldn`t turn down a twinkie. :)

Re: the Hot tub and the elements. It`s called `contrast`. LOLOL. It`s awesome really. If you had an enclosure around it you wouldn`t feel the fresh air and mist or snow on your face. Ours has a roof but if the wind picks up and it`s a cold day in the winter time our hair does get bits of ice on it. But you`re totally warm because your body is immersed in hot water, so it`s not unpleasant at all. The only bad time is in the peak of mosquito season because you have to keep as much of your head in the water as possible so you don`t get bitten. But then we usually use those Off Candles and that usually deters them. :)

It is -20C/-4F at the moment. We put a log on the fire this morning so it`s cozy while we enjoy our coffee.

We had a very bad bus accident occur in Ottawa yesterday afternoon. The investigation is still pending but it looks like one of the double decker city buses hit a patch of ice and plowed in to one of the Bus shelters killing one person who was waiting for the bus and two people who were on the top deck of the bus at the front. 23 injured. I think 9 of them are in critical condition. It`s horrible.

    I think I`m going to make a
    Ham N Swiss Loaf
    for dinner this evening.

We have an appointment this afternoon at 4:30 at the Apple Store to get a new operating system loaded on to my Mac and then I guess I`ll finally be back in business. We may also pop over to Home Depot to look at small electric stoves. We want something to use in our rec room in the basement that is nice to look at as well as functional.

    Wishing everyone a good day.

Hmmm. My sister lives in Camrose but I don’t think the bad little fairy has come to visit her, so it is likely twins and not triplets. Tee hee! Yes, taller vehicles are a royal pain climb in for sure although I like a pickup for where we live.

We have a nice, red, hemi engine, bells and whistles 2009 pickup that is his baby. The gray one is a plain Jane, no frills automatic and is outfitted for off road as needed but no hemi. He put ten ply tires on it instead of street tires and it is our bad weather truck. Got it for about 40 % off retail when Dodge was giving all the discounts due to economic / environmental issues getting attention at that time. It will be around as long as it survives, we don’t trade every so many years and tend to drive them until they drop.

My goal for today is straighten the cupboards so I can find things again! The cabinet people are coming next Monday so we can have them do doors and frames for the four that are ready, in the bathroom and by the kitchen door, and maybe another storage cabinet or two on the porch. So I want the kitchen in order and a clear idea of what to describe.

Whether we get premade ones or custom for the porch area depends on price. They are much more reasonable than Lowe’s and their stuff is custom made. But it is a back porch / laundry room, not a palatial add-on, and el cheapo, plain Jane, already made cabinets will suffice.

Wayne is making waffles so I best get myself in gear and start the day.

Morning!! So sorry about the no sleep fairy Joce :(. Hope you get a nap in and you find relief for your arm and shoulder. Yum on muffins!!

Ugh on your no sleep as well Karen! I have never had the oatmeal at McD's. I'll have to get that next time we go there :). Good idea to not get out on the icy roads!

I could imagine being in the hot tub with snow flurries hitting your head feeling good lol! OMG on the bus accident, how awful! Good luck on your running around today.

At the gym..I took most of last week off, too busy, so it feels good to be back. Bri was supposed to have tryouts for a team this morning but it got rained out. We practiced with another team on Tues. and wed. and I think we are going to go with them anyway. She loved their team and they are really good!

No other plans for today, I think I'm going to make a dessert type casserole for the challenge and for dinner making chicken fried steak, Brussels sprouts and a loaded potato bake for the challenge as well :). Have a great day everyone!!

    Good Morning Everyone.

It's shaping up to be a nice day here. A little cool this morning but the sun is shining and it's slowly warming up.
Was suppose to meet with another plant person this morning (this will be the 4th one) but she called and cancelled a 1/2 hour b4 she was suppose to be here because of an business "emergency". We rescheduled for next Saturday morning. Instead of a landscaping company I called a plant nursery direct and hopefully will have better luck, we will see what happens next Saturday. The work ethic of people in this part of the country is the pits.
Going to try a new recipe https://therecipecritic.com/cheeseburger-soup/
It looks good and I have everything I need to make it.
Will probably grill steaks tonight for dinner. Last nights dinner was so-so. DH's was horrible. He ordered 2 petite filets wrapped in bacon and they were served practically raw, I had to send them back to be cooked more, and the quality was awful. I serve better meat to the dog. I ordered stuffed cod with a seafood filling which was good, I've had it before, but even it was off. We won't be going back for a long time.

So sorry to hear you are still very uncomfortable Joce and can't sleep. I guess time is the only answer but not a good answer. Good news that Den's tests are going well. Hope naps are helping you.

Hopefully you too Karen will be able to get a nap in today. I wouldn't want to take a long walk in the cold either, can't blame Fritz, but the little guy needs to burn off his energy somehow. Nice that your neighbor brought over a meal for you.

My DH couldn't sleep last night either but I ignored him so I could sleep. He finally got up and went out on the couch.

Oh-My on the bus accident Janet. Terrible news. Good luck at the Apple store. Hope you are back up and running well.

    Hi Michelle!

SP ? Janet! Ugh on the bus crash. Was it black ice? Which OS system do you have, Janet? Mine is older and we have to get Sierra or ?? Installed if I want to keep it updated. Sure don’t want to buy another one!

Hi Michelle. What is the team name Bri is looking at? Chicken fried steak sounds good!
McDonald oatmeal is just oats with apples and raisins to add, and has a bit of ?maple? Syrup....not too much, they used to have it far too sweet but it is more to my liking now.

My plans are to work on cupboards if Uncle Arthur doesn’t intervene and chemo med lies low. It is mushy outside and 35 F, too warm for ice or snow.

Hi Linda. Too bad the meal was not good. Esp a filet!

It is snowing again but we aren’t expecting much if any.

Trouble is on my lap but in for a surprise as I have to get dressed and do some work! Leftover lasagna for lunch and something with venison, maybe, for supper. Maybe the no sleep fairy has a Florida cousin?

The Cheeseburger Soup I made came out great. My finished pot looked just like the picture. I even jullieaned the carrots on my mandeline, I'm surprised I still have my fingers. My soup was a little mild because of the cheese I used (Jack and Colby blend), next time I'll use a Cheddar blend. Very filling and hearty! Seems to be a popular and copied recipe because I've found it on 3 sites so far including here … and there's probably more. LOL!!! Cheeseburger Soup

You`ve got a lot of projects on the go Karen. Fun! So nice Wayne is making waffles. I haven`t had any in a long time and I do love a good waffle. :) Don`t quote me but I think the operating system on my Mac was Lion. Apple wouldn`t do the repair or install of a new hard drive but they said if I paid another company to do it that they would install the OS on the new drive free of charge. Yes, one witness to the bus crash said that there was black ice which caused the bus to swerve and lose control.

Hi Michelle! Fun to hear that Bri has found a new team that she really likes. I had to google what Chicken fried steak was again. I think it`s predominantly an American dish.

Good afternoon Linda! Ugh on the person calling a half hour before the scheduled meeting. :( Again, I hope it works out well next Saturday. A shame your dinner out last night wasn`t good. :( I am majorally craving soup. Glad you were pleased with your Cheeseburger soup.

Jim and I had Tomato Cheese Omeletttes with hot sauce for breakfast and then went out for a walk. It was super cold and my legs are just starting to thaw. Beautiful though, sunny and wonderfully fresh air.

Making steak sandwiches for lunch with the leftover grilled steak from the other night and for dinner I`ll make Shake n` Bake Chicken. I think I`ve got some Shake n` Bake Potato balls up in the freezer and maybe I`ll make a salad as well.

Wayne has almost finished painting the back porch / laundry room so the cabinet people can see how it looks. I had to stop cleaning out cupboards bec had a slight reaction to the chemo meds, but caught it early enough to take something. Now I know to be proactive and take the stuff earlier next time.

I could not believe what all was out of date in the cupboards. Yi yi yi! Filled a garbage bag and am sure when I am up to trying again will find more!

Cheeseburger soup sounds good. I will probably fix something light, brothy, and easy on the tummy. Maybe chicken soup! Wayne will likely decide on a burger, however. Janet, I am in agreement on soup craving!

Fritz is asleep on my lap....he is twitching as he dreams. Silly dog!

    Have a nice day everyone.

Oh good Karen! Glad you took something to help. I usually do a thorough cleaning of my pantry every year but I didn't do it last year so I imagine I'll have some stuff to chuck as well. Yum on Chicken soup. :)

We zipped in to Costco for four items. It was a zoo and we honestly barely found a parking spot. Had a quick look in Home Depot at the electric stoves and then off to the Apple Store. They uploaded a new OS for me. I guess the latest is 10.13 but for whatever reason it wouldn`t load so they gave me 10.12. I had just 10 before so..... Jim has been an angel and has been hauling this huge thing in and out of the car (27 inch screen) multiple times and speaking `computer` for me in all these service centres. It`s a whole different language that`s for sure.

Home now and cuddled in front of the fire. It sure is cold outside.
