The sky is clear. It is warm and bright. No rain expected until Monday night, so the eclipse should be clearly visible.

Daughter's birthday was yesterday. She needs a good pair of support/ nurses' shoes for work as she is on concrete floors all day. Some day other than this Monday (ha ha) we will take her to Springfield.

Wayne and Fritz are on their morning walk. It will be short because Mel and Trouble popped out the door and Trouble tends to follow them the usual half a mile thru the forest. Not really the best move for a house cat. AC is still inside. We have a possum residing in the wood pile, and an unknown number of raccoons strolling thru the yard. The guys put out a live trap yesterday.

Otherwise it is quiet and peaceful.

    Have a good day.

    Good Morning Everyone.

How very cool you'll get to see the Eclipse Karen. It'll be interesting to see how the animals behave that day (including the human ones too). I wonder if it will have any effect. Good shoes are so important ... Happy Bday to DD. That is so cute Trouble goes on the walk with Wayne and Fritz. Perhaps when the opossum and some raccoons are "rehomed" AC will settle down and enjoy being outside again.

All is good here. Will go outside in a bit while it's still tolerable with DH and work on scooping up some more of the stone border along the walk. Almost done and hopefully will finish this weekend, if not the next for sure.
Dinner tonight will be lasagna that I bought yesterday with a salad. Not sure about lunch ... either eggs or a tuna salad sandwich. We are skipping breakfast and just having a protein shake so we are not stuff while outside working.

Hope to wake everyone up today and hear from those M.I.A.

I hope it is clear on Monday so you can experience the eclipse, Karen. It is very neat. I was fortunate enough to experience it as a kid in the early 1960's and it was quite impressive. It was in the afternoon (I was at Girl Guide Camp) and it turned so dark you could tell the birds did not know what to do. Just don't look right at it, as I recall at the time they used camera film and boxes with a pinhole in them to look right at it now they are suggesting people buy the glasses or get some welders glass to look right at it. I remember being told we would not very likely see it again in our lifetime in this area. Happy Birthday to your daughter. Good shoes are essential when standing on concrete floors all day a nice birthday gift for sure. Cool that Trouble follows them on their walk. I hope they trap the racoon or possum as both really like eggs. Lol at finding the bedroom floor:)

Good luck working on the stone border, Linda. Try not to overdo it or you will be sore again. Lasagna is a nice change every once in awhile.

I know you are going to be run off your feet again today, Michelle. I hope everything turns out well.

Hopefully, we will be hearing from you today, Janet.

What are you up to today, Shona?

Den did the wee bit of grocery shopping this morning. I did the majority of it the other day. Then he picked up MacDonald's for brunch which was good. Nothing else is happening here. It is SO hot and humid here it almost takes your breath away so we will be staying nice and cool inside today. Den is having his rib eye steak and fries tonight b/c he decided to have a repeat of the cold plate again last night. I am not sure what I am having at the moment.

Wishing everyone a great day! Anyone MIA drop by and say hi.

Hi Joce. Good for. Den picking up groceries. As hot as it is you have the right idea staying inside .

Wayne is going to go out to check the live traps and see if we caught more mice in the carriage house. Then put locks on the tool shed --- the neighbor up the road had an ATV stolen from their house sometime this week. So it is best to take precautions. We think it was someone who knew them and where they kept it.

Yes, I found the floor!! Had almost forgot what it looked like. This morning was spent entirely on locating it. Found some ancient pix that had evidently become stashed away! Homer and History in their younger days, and some fire Dept photos! I need to gather all pix and sort and put in albums. They are not organized!

    Have a nice, cool day.

Hi everyone! Can't remember when I last checked in or what was going on at that point. So many things happen on a daily basis that it's hard to cover it all. Long story short.....Mom told the Hospital in Fort Frances that she did not want to go for more physio at Rainycrest in FF and that she wanted to come home. Mom felt the sooner she returned to RR the sooner she'd get an apt. at the Riverview Manor, even though that's not the case.So CCAC (can't remember what the acronym stands for....but it's the group of people that disperse help and care to seniors) arranged to have a care worker come to the house three times a week to help Mom with laundry, grocery shopping, house cleaning, etc. Mom is resistant to it but there's HTG no other options. CCAC promised to have all her services set in place as of Monday and they discharged her from the hospital yesterday afternoon. Prior to picking her up at the hospital we spoke with the care worker in RR who will be helping Mom and she told us that she didn't have an opening for another two weeks. Needless to say I was livid. So we made the appropriate calls and it looks like Mom will receive a bit of care this week and a little more the following and then full in three weeks. Jim and I hope to leave in two more weeks back to Ottawa. Mom's doing well.

May or may not get a chance to finish my story but that's the gist of it. I'm currently at the hospital in RR as I thought we'd pick up Mom's prescriptions at the RR drugstore this morning BUT GUESS WHAT????? Their pharmacy is closed Sat. and Sun. What the hell???? So I came to the hospital to plead my case and they are looking up on her records to see what meds she takes and will give me two days worth to see us through 'til Mon. HTG I have been so stressed out it's just nuts.

Cool on the eclipse Karen. Hope your daughter had a great birthday.Possums are such weird animals. I've only ever seen one in my entire life in St. Catharines, Ontario when we visited one of Jim's brothers. What a shame your neighbour's ATV was stolen. :(

Lasagna and salad sounds yummy Linda!

Hi Joce! I think I remember that big eclipse in the '60's as well. We were living in B.C. at the time and my Dad made some big long pipe/tube with something at the end of it that we could safely look through to view the eclipse. Wow on the heat and humidity. It's going up to over 30C here today.

Gonna make some Tortellini soup with fresh corn on the cob for lunch. I was over in Baudette, Mn. this morning and got the tortellini. (I was hoping for wontons, but alas). Two cool things I did see in the grocery store there....lefsa (Swedish flat bread) and sausage casings. Like four different kinds!!! Kinda cool.

Is the end in sight my GR friends? The end of our RR adventure? I am hoping so. I really miss home. Take good care. Have a great weekend.

Two more weeks until you are home? Yippee!

Is there a Canadian equivalent of Meals On Wheels that could deliver a meal to her?

Yes I can believe the pharmacy was closed with no way to access meds! Hospitals seem to be run for their convenience, not the the health of the patient. You would think it would be SOP to provide two days RX when they know pharmacies will be closed! Ah well. Deep breath! This too shall pass.

MO is all excited over the eclipse. Farmers in the best areas plan to rent camping spots in their fields and one couple is renting out their house! We are in or near the minimal area so it will be more of a graying out than totally black.

I made a garbanzo bean salad for pot luck tomorrow, and posted it so I wouldn't forget something the next time I make it. Ha ha. It is super easy.

    Have a nice day.

Before I forget, Karen. I tagged you on FB thingy for making your own safe viewing thing to watch the eclipse safely. Terrible to hear someone stole your neighbour's ATV. Yes, we have Meals On Wheels in Canada plus other things like that. Some of my neighbour's use them like Frank our 97-year-old across the street.

Oh, my goodness, Janet what a fiasco you have been through with your Mom! I don't think the pharmacy is open here Sat. or Sun. either. They are only open Mon. to Frid. 9-5 P.M. But we do have a Shopper's Drug Mart that is open 7 days a week from 9-10 pm. I hope they can get your Mom in sooner than later. Will your Mom be going to dinner at your Aunt Irene's as well? How does she handle the stairs and bathtub etc.? Congratulations on your new great nephew! Enjoy your dinner tonight.

Menu planning again is out the window ... will have the lasagna tomorrow which I don't mind this way we are not eating a tomato based dinner two nights in a row. DH wanted meatloaf and I had one already mixed up in the freezer so I thawed it and will make mashed potatoes and a melody mix of veggies I need to use up so it works.

Kudos on finding the bedroom floor Karen and Holy Crxp that someone would steal an ATV from your neighbor. You know it's someone they know too. Hope they get caught and wise to lock stuff up. We're there any critters in the live traps?

I'm feeling you on the heat and stAying inside Joce, it's what we are doing too. We cleared most of the stones away but there was an ant nest I disturbed stopping me from getting the last bit done. By tomorrow morning the ants should be gone and we can finish. Then need to get some mulch which I'll have to call our landscaping company for.

Wow Janet, you are seeing some light at the end of the perverbial tunnel. Happy to hear some things are working out. It's a lot and a lot all at once and and all that has changed at a moments notice. I know. Once mom is in the living assisted it will all settle down. ((((Hugs)))).
