Saturday Sunshine

  • MissouriFarmWife 8 years ago
The ground is saturated. The James River flooded in Springfield. Big Piney River is over its banks buy the road was open yesterday when we drove home. The sun is out and has cut through the fog. IT is supposed to by sunny and nice today.

Kitties are wild and woolly this morning.

Last night Blondie sat in the window (two feet from me) and watched us while he ate leftover cat food. I saw him in the back yard and had Wayne put more cat food out. ( He is better than the day before. I worry about the critter. His eyes are not good! I think the others come around when food is scarce, but he is more dependent on handouts. (NOT good for raccoons to be hanging around, however, esp. with chickens. We are going to put up a game camera to see if any are snooping around the chicken fortress.)

We lost one chicken. It was cooler yesterday and they were all huddled under the warming lamp when we got back from Springfield. No signs of predator activity on it. They should be okay today, temps going to reach 90.

I tried to upload photos of Mama Jeans but kept getting the message that the connection to the server was reset and try again. So disgusting, since facebook phots upload fine. I will throw a tantrum and scream and try to figure out why the #$??^&! computer has lost its mind.

I will be at an auction. Groan! Not my idea of fun, but Wayne is an auction fanatic. So I go to them and he agrees to go to some of my preferred activities. Ha ha.

    Have a good day, all.

I hope Blondie is ok. That's nice you are feeding him, though I understand about the wild animal thing but he won't be as fast or able to feed himself if he's sick or too old. Sorry you lost a chicken too :( My BIL lost all 12 chickens from one Mink! I couldn't believe how stealth those little things are! I hope no predators come around your chickens. That same reset thing was happening to me the last two days, grrr, it's my internet cutting in and out I think. Haha, give and take, understandable about the auction! ;)
Not much happening so far this morning. There's yard work to do, after all the rain our weeds are now trees and bushes! And pick up Colter from his sleepover later. I talked to the Mom yesterday and they just moved here three months ago. They are from Vancouver Island too, small world! She is from Nanaimo where we lived but her husband was from Courtney (an hour north) so they lived there the last few years. She sounds just like me when I first came here, lol, so we talked about all the things they will soon deal with here, weather wise and so on.
Pork chops in a ginger/garlic/soy marinade and sesame rice with veggies on the menu tonight.
    Have a great day everyone!

At least Blonde knows where to go to get some food, Karen. Poor guy I feel sorrow for him. You might enjoy the auction today hopefully.

Shona, It is really nice you have met someone who is from Vancouver Island too! Somehow it is always comforting to have a friend who is from where your old stomping grounds were. Even nicer she has a son who is Colter's age. I have oodles of weeds to get at yet and I still need to plant another small tea rose I bought the other day. Your dinner sound delicious and just the thought of it is making me very hungry.

I haven't decided whether to order Chinese for dinner b/c our annual Kilt Run is today and that area of town will be swamped with people. If I order it earlier I can warm it up later and avoid all the hassle of the crowds downtown. Now that i think about it I will do that. I also want to try Shona's cold pan method with chicken quarters today and then finish them off on the BBQ. Then we can have them tomorrow night for dinner with potato salad, deviled eggs and coleslaw. We haven't had a cold dinner in a very long time. I know Den will just love that.

I hope everyone has a great day!

    Hi all.

I checked with my computer savvy daughter - the problem with the connection is the servers that GR "bounces off" from. They are overworked or slow. It is NOT on your internet, Shona - I thought the same thing about mine at first. Frustrating thing is there is nothing we can do about it at this end. I did put a notice in Help Group, will maybe go back and let them know the cause. ??? if anything will be done. Facebook works fine - I put some pictures there. It is only GR that causes a problem. So for now all I can do is growl.

Blondie is used to seeing and hearing me, but he is very much NOT a pet. Wayne's friend suggested we just shoot him, but if I won't unless there is no other choice. Meatime, we will watch for any other 'coons or such. There might be minks around, we saw either one of them or a weasel years ago - don't want them anywhere near my chickens.

Auction fizzled - nothing much. I saw some dishes, but they would have been two to three hours away before getting to them, and the auctioneer had his mike turned way too LOUD for inside!

See you all later. Enjoy your Chinese takeout / ginger-garlic porkchops for dinner. I have no good ideas but have a couple of things defrosting in the refrigerator. Have to make some for potluck tomorrow, also.

    See you later.

Hi! Wow on blondie getting so close! Too bad on the chicken :( Too bad on your connection to GR...that must be so frustrating and I can't believe there is nothing you can do about it! Boooo.

Omg I hear you on the rain bringing all the weeds Shona! I am so tired of weeding my garden. Plus all the rain has stunted the growth of my vegetable plants majorly. They are just drowning in water. I hate to say it but we need a short drought! Yum on the pork chops!

Hi Joce! Does the Chinese place not deliver? We have a couple that do which comes in handy. I want to try Shona's chicken method as well, let us know how it turns out!

Wow it's been a busy past couple of days. Ashley called me on Thursday and asked me if I wanted to go the the Y and use her free guest pass to work out. It's been over 3 years since I've been to the gym, but I gladly accepted and left their happy and taking advantage of their strike discount they were offering for memberships! So now I can go to the gym whenever with free kid care, go to the pool/water park they have anytime, put the kids in the multiple camps they have going this summer for a discount price, use the basketball courts and lot's of other things. Yesterday we all went to the zoo and it was a blast. Caiden woke up with a fever this morning AGAIN so we will take it easy. Michael is at what I hope is the last strike meeting and the vote will be monday and tuesday and it is highly thought to be a YES to the agreement. If so everyone will be going back the week of the 6th of July. Making burgers tonight and Michael requested potato salad to go along with them. Thawing a chicken to start brining Lemon Rosemary Brined Roast Chicken for tomorrow night. Hope everyone is having a great day!!

We got half the garden done today. I was just pulling some weeds and Pete was about 90% done with mowing the lawn and a big thunderstorm rolled in so we rushed inside. I'm sure everything will be dry again in an hour or so!
A cold dinner sounds great Joce! That sounds like a good idea to render the fat in the pan then BBQ the next day. You won't get any flare ups on the grill :)
I didn't realize that about the server, makes sense! At least GR is free and has no ads!
This yard work is overwhelming me, so much to prune...it's a wild jungle out there! Back to work I go, sun is starting to shine again. :)

I am so sorry your not feeling well Tina :( I hope you can make it to the doctor okay and you get some help.

Cool that the cold pan method worked out so well for you Joce! I so need to try that. Wow a 23 year old car?? That's awesome that you've gotten it to last that long. Michael's car is over 10 yrs old and I thought that was old!

Cool on getting gifted the George Foreman grill Jett! Ohh brined pork chops!

Lemon Rosemary Brined Roast Chicken was freaking amazing! About to go and review that and Marie's potato salad in the IMI. Caiden had swim lessons this morning and then I worked out after wards. Picked up sandwiches and came home and now I'm going to be lazy for a while, I'm pooped! Dinner will be leftovers. Have a great day everyone!
