I made old fashioned rice pudding for my queasy tummy. It has to chill. Yesterday's Lightning game.....well the wheels came off the wagon. I am going to nap as long as I can. Had another night where I stayed up until 7 am. Ridiculous. I was folding sheets at 2:00 am.

Liv is working a double today/tomorrow and bartending Monday. I won't see her at all. No picnic here.

    See ya'll later.

Good Morning Tina! Are you feeling at all better this morning? Bad, bad hockey game. Tampa just didn't show up. Rice pudding is just one of those things I can't stomach. If you get to feeling better you could make some finger foods and have your own little picnic. :)
I've had a cup of coffee and once I have my second I shall jump into prep work for tonight's dinner plans. My cousin and his wife will be arriving some time this afternoon. It's a lovely morning, a tad chilly (didn't get frost last night phew!) with blue sky and sun shine.
Nice to see you touch base Laurie! Didn't think we'd hear from you 'til you got back. Your meals at the Italian restaurant sounded lovely. Did you manage to stay up for the Chocolate buffet? :)
I googled your type of Chickens Karen. Are the chickens themselves all the same colour or different? The eggs will be gorgeous. I have always preferred the look of a brown egg over a white egg and I'd love to have greeny blue ones. Can't wait to see pics of the chicks.
So...my menu for the evening....I picked up two new cheeses. An aged gouda that is very golden in colour, and another softer cheese with mustard seed in it. Shall put those out as an appy with an assortment of crackers and also make up more of Joce's
    Wonton Rounds Topped With Mushrooms
    Entree will be Lori's
Mesquite Grilled Chicken In White Barbeque Sauce
    with
    Twice Baked Spinach Potatoes
    and Marie's
    Quinoa Edamame Salad
    and Corinne's
    Fontina And Asparagus Tart
I bought blueberries and strawberries and ice cream so people can choose between straight up berries (Jim), berries with ice cream or blueberries with Limoncello. :)
Got the house all clean yesterday.
    Have a great day everyone!

Janet, my house is in dire need of cleaning. I have to straighten and damp mop and dust and vacuum and try to do this around two little kitties. Plus Wayne wants to ask Daughter and GSs up Monday, but I don't know if they have plans or not. Bought brats / buns / potatoes for potato salad, Bush's baked beans, etc. but these are all freeze-able or used later if it is just us. We shall see. Haven't checked the chickies yet to see if they survived the night. I am hoping our chicky container works and is strong enough to keep out any predators (snakes, mice, rats) that might work their way into the area. If they don't make it we will have to look into other arrangements - a table in the basement with a stronger box! I will have my chickens. The temp. was not good - not high enough - so we lowered the light. Bought the "red" light because it lowers aggression when they hit the pecking stage. Most of them are the ones that lay colored eggs, we may have one or two others since she was not sure she had 10 of the mixed. Two are brown / white combination and I am thinking they are the other breed. They are 4 days old today.

Tina, rice pudding is an acquired taste, I guess. I don't tolerate much straight milk (cheese, cream, sour cream, yogurt, are no problem) so if it is made with milk I would have to be careful. But it is certainly good with a dash of cinnamon on top. Yum! I concur with Janet - some finger foods on a nice plate, with a bit of rice pudding, maybe some egg salad on spinach as a side, and a nice glass of lemonade or wine or .......
(Here we go with egg salad again...I am getting into a culinary rut.)

We have to go feed Wayne's buddy's horses later today. He will be back late tonight. His dogs and cats will be outside, we just have to careful to be sure the dog stays in the kennel, because I am not sure he would come to us if he got loose. He electrified the part of the fence the horses broke through, we hope they don't try the other side. I would hate for them to be running loose on the highway. Especially the black filly! Of course, around here it would not be the first time cows or pigs or horses got loose. It is a fact of life in this area. You have not lived until you round a curve at night and think the lights coming at you are weird, so you slow down and discover 5 BLACK ANGUS cows in the oncoming lane, followed by a pickup truck, followed by 3 more cows. And they didn't even belong to the pickup driver -- he was just trying to not hit them and to provide some warning to oncoming traffic.

No idea about supper except it will be chicken thighs. It depends on what we decide we are in the mood for. BBQ - baked - whatever. It is partly sunny out today so will likely feed the horses before the possible rain sets in. Only 20 or so per cent chance, but I'd rather grain them in the bright sun than dodge lightning bolts - LOL! Our horses on on pasture, so if they miss a feeding of grain they will survive. We just feed them the grain to keep them coming when we call. They are both rather rotund.

O.K. it is time for me to go do something productive. Kittens are staying in the BR until we are finished with outdoor chores, then I have to clean the BR floor and change their litter boxes. Little monsters were holy terrors last night until they FINALLY crashed, then Trouble slept on my lap and Mauser half dozed on Wayne's. See you later.

I think housework would be very fun with two little kittens in tow! :) I'd been thinking your guys's Memorial Day weekend fell last weekend same as our Victoria Day weekend but obviously I was wrong. :) We have enough problems with hitting deer at night time on the roads. I'd shudder to think what a cow accident would look like. :( Have a great day!

    Good morning all:)

Tina, goodness on staying up until 7 am..try to get a nice long nap in if you are able..we were up at 4:45 am and I thought I was sleep deprived..Rick woke up headed for the back patio, he remembered he had a couple of bags of concrete there since it WASN'T supposed to rain..he totally forgot to put them in the garage..one of the bags of course split open so we were sweeping concrete before 5 am..looks like they didn't get too wet..the rain was a nice surprise otherwise!

Janet, I sooo hear ya on the too short haircut..I've been there many times..I'm sure it looks great, even though it doesn't feel "right"! And it will grow back sooner than you think! I'm so happy you like the quinoa edamame salad! Hope your company likes it..your whole menu sounds super delish..

Karen, I'd LOVE to have some more kittens running thru the house..they are just so darn cute! Sure hope your chicks are doing ok..I have always wanted chickens..my grandmother always had chickens and fresh eggs are the absolute best:)

I'm thinking turkey burgers for dinner..

    Have a nice Saturday everyone!

Two kittens are cute but not when you see that the "toy mouse" you got them isn't a toy. Mauser was growling when I walked past her so I took a closer look. She had a dead mouse in her mouth and was defending her catch against all comers. My opinion was that one of cats did it in last night and she discovered it this morning. It is good that she has the hunting instincts! This is the first time she has actually growled!

Chickies are doing fine. Will check on them later today and see if we need to rearrange food etc.back to laundry / housework!

    Hello!
Sorry your tummy is queasy Tina. I love rice pudding, haven't had it in years and years, my mom use to make it all the time growing up. I made it once for my husband when we first lived together, and he didn't like it. I don't think I've made it since. I hope you fell better!
Wow, great menu Janet!!! If I get in the car now, I might be able to make it by supper time? Oh darn, forgot your 3 hours ahead, nope, I'll never make it in time, lol ;)
Karen, your area sounds just like ours! Lol, with the cows, horses, pigs! Except your more likely to stop for a moose or deer, now the cougars and bear warnings are out too! It's an indoor vacuuming and outdoor yard cleanup day here too!!
Thankfully the concrete didn't harden Marie, what a mess that would be. Thankfully you got a little rain! We're really dry up here too, in Alberta.
It was 27c in the house yesterday! (80.6F), too hot to cook tacos, so we ordered Pizza. It's suppose to be warm today too, so I will cook the taco meat early today and re-heat later. It's been over a decade since I remember a May this hot. They are calling a for drought summer and predicting many forest fires this year, :( I'm sure our little town will need to have a strict water usage so we don't run out, the reserves are small. I guess we should break out the air conditioners, we just have a window one and a portable for upstairs.
Off to mow the lawns and attack the weeds, when the boy wakes up I'll have to vacuum before it's too hot in here. Have a great Day Everyone!!!!

Marie, you had the busted bag of concrete......I had Scotty bump a big empty box into a fire extinguisher just outside the interior door to the garage and he filled my garage with extinguisher powder. It was okay until I noticed Molly's nose. I thought why is her nose so funny looking, it isn't liver colored? It is pale and flaky. My nosy Molly. The whole garage needs to be swept.

Karen, I love chickens and chicken coops. I have a whole bunch pinned to Pinterest..I call it the "Martha Stewart" effect. Homemaking perfection that will elude me the rest of my life.

I will get Allison to pick up some hot dogs and buns, plus Bush Baked Beans. She can bring Ayva over to swim and if she wants to use the bbq, she can. All my meds warn, no sun tanning for me. I blister badly if I stay in the sun. Told you I live a vampire life. How I married a man nicknamed Sungod is a mystery to me?

I found a pan of well wrapped tamales in the deep freeze. Dinner tonight. I'll mash up some pintos and try refrying them.

My grandma Roberts (We called her Grandma Roberts always, no Nana or Grammy for her) always had little Pyrex custard cups of egg custard or rice pudding in her frig. She had a black and white tile floor and a turquoise frig and red countertops. I thought she was a perfect Grandma. She had a Boston Terrier named Tammy. Always, when one passed away she would get a new Terrier and name it Tammy. She wore floral print sleeveless shifts from Hawaii, really colorful. Very radical in the 60's. She made Grandma Heminger cringe. "No proper mema would show her arms and dress like a heathen." And G. Roberts always had a parakeet, named Tweety naturally.. She taught me to fish off the dock in the Florida Keys. We always had a card table set up to do jig saw puzzles together while sipping the best lemonade. So rice pudding is a little spoonful of my past and it is comforting. I put in a lot more cinnamon than she did.

Janet, AH-mazing menu. Your guests will be well fed tonight!

Kitties are fun. Mousing kitties are better. I am hoping Lola will get out of her terrible two's soon. She is a battering ram of pug and she bumps me hard in the night to start petting her. Charlie asks if it is okay to cuddle and waits for an answer. She demands immediate attention. She spent my short nap time curled around my head like a pug halo, with her snoring snout next to my ear. No wonder I can't sleep.

Ugh on the concrete Marie. How was your drive to Sacramento? And NO, my hair doesn't look at all great. It's really bad. Like...really bad. Let's just say I am going to try and stay home this coming week so I don't have to run into anyone I know. That Edamame Quinoa salad of yours is so great for summer time. I think it'll be a really nice fresh tasting side for the grilled chicken. Turkey burgers sound great. I've been craving hamburgers lately.
LOL @ Mauser with a mouse Karen. She must have been very proud of herself and felt very grown up whether she caught it or found it. :) Glad the chicks are doing well. Don't forget to take a picture of them for us!
Yikes on cougar warnings Shona. I've never lived anywhere that had those. That's a real shame that you may get a drought. The loss of trees and things is just devastating.
Well, I'm pretty much prepared. Have the main things all prepped. Guest should arrive anytime. Just after I fried up the wonton rounds I poured the hot vegetable oil into a little pyrex dish to cool so I could then put it in the fridge and reuse it. But then not two minutes later I'm buzzing around cleaning up the counters and I grab said pyrex bowl and within the time it took my brain to register the burning pain on my thumb I sort of set it down/threw it on the counter. I had oil EVERYWHERE! So had to take more time out to get that all cleaned up. Ran my thumb under cold water and I appear to be fine. It could have been a lot worse. Shaking head. Jim was a sweetheart and swept the front interlock and decks for me.

SP Tina! Yum on hotdogs. That'd be fun if Allison and Ayva came over for a little BBQ and swim. Fred must have liked Grandma Roberts since they both showed an affiliation to Hawaiian shirts. :) She sounds like a very special lady.

We are back from feeding horses for Wayne's buddy. Fortunately, they are all present and accounted for. It drizzled, even though NO RAIN was expected -- zero percent chance! Never trust the weather forecast! At least not in Missouri. The six cats were very ready to eat and one fell into the food container before we could even dip the food out. It just leaped out and went on its way.

Tina, hot dogs and Bush's Beans are great. The kids should enjoy the pool and grilling is so easy. Your terrior-owning Grandma sounds like one a child would adore. I can just just imagine the red counter and turquoise appliances -- very fifties in design, I think..?
Both my grandmas farmed. One died when I was eleven. My Mom and sister and I inherited the animal-loving gene from her. The other was from the hills of Virginia and the best cook I ever knew. Beef roast was fork tender, corn casserole was so sweet and flavorful from using NON GMO home grown sweet corn! And she made pies and cakes every Sunday!

Janet, your menu is wonderful. Of course something spills just before company is due to arrive. Murphy's law strikes again. I'm sure all will be go smoothly.

Shona, we do have deer and turkeys to watch out for on the highway. Plus an occasional cougar - wild boar - bobcat - wolf - horse cow - donkey - goat, etc. Conservation insists there are no Cougars, although one was hit by a car not long ago, about fifty miles East, and game cameras have captured them close to us for several years.

I am supposed to be selecting a chicken recipe for tonight. Not chatting. So I best get moving. It is almost time to feed horses and check on chickies. We may have to make alternate heating arrangements for them if they haven't spread out fro the heat source a bit more.

Hi to all. Have a nice day?
