Saturday's Seashells.....

Good Morning Everyone! Jim and I are going to walk over to a nearby restaurant that is owned by a friend of Benjamin's for lunch. It'll get us out and give us some social stimulation. :)
Jim has gone to get water. Benjamin told us you can't use the water out of the taps as it contains heavy metals. There is a water dispenser at the front of the apartment complex where you can fill up jugs. (Picture a gas pump but it delivers water and you feed a coin in to it to make the water flow) However, you're supposed to boil that water before drinking it, so you fill up the jugs. It costs 5 NTD (22 cents Canadian) to fill up two smaller sized jugs. Then you carry it back to the apartment. You boil a bunch and cool it and keep it in a seperate jug for drinking water and then you use the remaining stuff to cook with at boiling temperature. To be honest it's a total pain in the you know what plus I have always been very much against using plastic to hold food and certainly water in AND certainly against re-using plastic jugs and bottles on a consistent basis. However.....that is what they do here. I am looking forward to returning to my creature comforts when I get back to Ottawa. :)

So I took the three photos below last week when we were in Kenting. Kimmer, I wanted to show you what shells they were selling in their booths on the street as well as a cool seashell lamp I saw in the hotel lobby. :)

It is 31C/87F at the moment. Gaaaaaa! :)

    Wishing everyone a great Saturday!

Had a very fun lunch. Jim and I both chose a fried chicken drumstick curry. I had Iced Kiwi juice for a beverage (SO yummy) and Jim had a lemonade which he really enjoyed as it wasn't too sweet. It ended up that Benjamin cut one of his classes short as only one of the two students was there so then he met us at the restaurant for lunch as well. He had a chicken spaghetti dish. We had a really nice chat with the owner and cook. It is owned by Georgio and his Taiwanese wife Felicita. Georgio was born in Italy but moved to Canada when he was very young. (Mississauga) Georgio teaches English. Felicita also teaches English and does it privately. She has 40 students. She runs the restaurant and is the cook at it along with her two daughters from a previous marriage. She has offered to teach me how to make dumplings!!!!!! I'm so excited! On Tuesday we are going to meet her at the restaurant (which is only open on the weekends) and she's going to have the ingredients on hand and then teach me how to make the dough and fold and stuff etc.

    Good Morning Everyone.

So cool that Felicita is going to teach you how to make dumplings Janet! And so very sweet of her to meet you at the restaurant and give you a private lesson ... now that's priceless!
So different with how they obtain drinking water but like you say "that's what they do here". Makes you appreciate home all the more and what is taken for granted.

The coyotes here Karen snatch little dogs in the middle of the day. They are no longer nighttime preditors. The HelloFresh you made last night sounds yummy and I think tonight I will make something just like it ... pork tenderloin, mashed potato, snap peas (I have it all).

I am so so very tired. Did not sleep much last night. I was tired when I turned off the tv but then couldn't fall asleep. Finally got up around 3:00 a.m. and went out to the couch to read hoping to get tired. I forced myself to lay back down around 4:30 and fell asleep for a couple hours but it was a light restless sleep. Don't know why I couldn't sleep.
We are expecting rain the next three days and at the least cloudy days so hopefully I'll be able to nap later today.
Not planning on doing much else today.

Good morning all. Very cool on the seashell pics Janet! I recognize many that we sell. We also sell some lamps that are absolutely beautiful! Also very cool on the private dumpling lesson! How nice of her to do that. That would be a pain with the water situation. I'm afraid I wouldn't even want to bathe in it, lol! I did not sleep well last night myself Linda. Went to bed late, around midnight, which is very late for me but tossed and turned for quite a bit. So I am feeling tired today as well.

Having lunch today with a few girlfriends so looking forward to that. Later I think hubs and I are going to go shopping for plants. Potted ones. We planted the elephant ears along our fence row and they are popping up nicely. Want to get some large potted plants for along the fence too.

Not sure what dinner will be. Maybe go out. I doubt I will feel like cooking after running around all day but we will see. Do need to make a trip to the grocery store but that might wait until tomorrow.

Hope all have a good Saturday! Sleep Sweet Janet!

Must be something in the air here Kimmer why we couldn't sleep last night. Maybe the low pressure system moving thru that we are not use to? I hope you are at least able to enjoy your day today with your girlfriends and later plant shopping.

Oh my goodness what a bad sleep you had Linda. I can't even fathom that. I'd be a basket case the next day. I actually had a nap this afternoon as I haven't slept well the last two nights. Another thing I will truly relish once I get home is my own bed and pillow. :)

Hi Kimmer! It is SO hot and sticky here that believe me, you do want to bathe in whatever at least looks clear. LOLOLOLOL! Sounds like you have a very fun day planned. Enjoy your time with your girlfriends and plant shopping. I LOVE elephant ears. They grow here in Taiwan as well.

We just got back from dinner. Benjamin brought us to an Izakaya restaurant again, a Japanese small plates place. The food was top notch. Honestly, I can't believe how well we eat here!!!! We had a fish, two types of chicken skewers, some beef skewers and a bowl of udon noodles with a bacon cream sauce. Also scallops and shrimp skewers. Wow.

Heading off tomorrow morning (your Saturday night) to Xiaoliuqui Island. It is Taiwan's largest coral island. We're staying overnight then coming home on Monday. Our last jaunt out of PIngtung before we head back to Ottawa. Times a winding down.

Night all. Sleep seashell sweet. :)

Lol threw me off when Janet said good night :)
Last night we went to a charity boxing match. Prime rib dinner but the prime rib was so thick and rare it was too much work to try to cut it. Boxing was interesting. The charity was for kids in A nearby city. Boxers were very young.
Today I got new running shoes. You don’t even want to know how much they cost! And that was with a discount from running club.
Tonight we are going to Al Fresca with two other couples for dinner. I already know what I’m getting lol. Seafood AlFresca! It has clams, mussels, scallops, octopus, lobster and shrimp yummy.

    Good Morning again everyone!

LOL Laurie. What a shame on you not caring for the prime rib. It actually sounds like it was cooked how I'd probably like it. :) I've never been to a boxing match. Sounds like you're going to have an amazing dinner out. Enjoy! I can't do octopus. I saw a video on FB with you and your boss Nick in it, so I got to hear what your voice sounds like!!!! LOLOL!

    Hi all.

The. class was interesting and I learned a lot, like what we are doing wrong and what we need to change. Very worthwhile. Am very tired. We grabbed a bite of traditional Arby Gyro for lunch. Quite good but I burped it up all afternoon. Ha ha!

How was the coral island trip, Janet? Agree on the water situation. We don’t realize hoe great we have it until we see how some of the rest of the world lives.

Ugh on the coyotes, Linda. They are very intelligent animals and have a complex social life. But small pets are not safe.

I didn’t sleep well at first last night, but finally zonked. Woke up at 5:30, even tho the alarm was set for six. I think we also have a low pressure heading this way.

Laurie, we had HelloFresh prime rib with buyer chees and roast carrots. The meat was good, but the potatoes didn’t grab me. Plus it was quite heavily spiced and we are not fond of hot and spicy. Cool on the running shoes.

I vote to eat out, Kimmer.

Fritz finally calmed down after chasing cats and racing around like a whirling dervish. He hates being cooped up in his crate and takes forever to run off his excess energy when we are home. Trouble and AC are dozing on the couch, Mel and Mauser are on my lap, and the arm of the recliner. All are maintaining a safe distance in case Fritz gets energized again. Since he decided to lay down beside Wayne, he is probably done with his manic phase and is happily chewing his deer antler.
