Saturday's Shenanigans!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY EVERYBODY!!!!! It's a lovely morning here today in the Ottawa Valley. We have no plans although I am thinking of tackling the closet in the office where I have amassed a huge pile of Family tree photographs and albums on every single shelf in there. Ai yi yi! I did get to the point where I cleaned out a filing box tote so I can now file each photo under a family name in the tote and then they'd be a lot easier to access. :)

Since we didn't eat the porkchops with sauerkraut and pearl barley yesterday I'll make that up for dinner this evening.

I've been having a devil of a time trying to think of something special to make for St. Patrick's Day. I've come to the conclusion that I'm not really a big fan of Irish food. LOL!

Did you have the puppy overnight Karen, and if so, how did that go? :)

    Have a great day everyone!!!!

Good Morning Everyone. And Happy Saint Patrick's Day too. Here is a bit of history for you today:

    461, Saint Patrick dies.

On this day in 461 A.D., Saint Patrick, Christian missionary, bishop and apostle of Ireland, dies at Saul, Downpatrick, Ireland.

Much of what is known about Patrick’s legendary life comes from the Confessio, a book he wrote during his last years. Born in Great Britain, probably in Scotland, to a well-to-do Christian family of Roman citizenship, Patrick was captured and enslaved at age 16 by Irish marauders. For the next six years, he worked as a herder in Ireland, turning to a deepening religious faith for comfort. Following the counsel of a voice he heard in a dream one night, he escaped and found passage on a ship to Britain, where he was eventually reunited with his family.

According to the Confessio, in Britain Patrick had another dream, in which an individual named Victoricus gave him a letter, entitled “The Voice of the Irish.” As he read it, Patrick seemed to hear the voices of Irishmen pleading him to return to their country and walk among them once more. After studying for the priesthood, Patrick was ordained a bishop. He arrived in Ireland in 433 and began preaching the Gospel, converting many thousands of Irish and building churches around the country. After 40 years of living in poverty, teaching, traveling and working tirelessly, Patrick died on March 17, 461 in Saul, where he had built his first church.

Since that time, countless legends have grown up around Patrick. Made the patron saint of Ireland, he is said to have baptized hundreds of people on a single day, and to have used a three-leaf clover–the famous shamrock–to describe the Holy Trinity. In art, he is often portrayed trampling on snakes, in accordance with the belief that he drove those reptiles out of Ireland. For thousands of years, the Irish have observed the day of Saint Patrick’s death as a religious holiday, attending church in the morning and celebrating with food and drink in the afternoon. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade, though, took place not in Ireland, but the United States, when Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City in 1762. As the years went on, the parades became a show of unity and strength for persecuted Irish-American immigrants, and then a popular celebration of Irish-American heritage. The party went global in 1995, when the Irish government began a large-scale campaign to market St. Patrick’s Day as a way of driving tourism and showcasing Ireland’s many charms to the rest of the world. Today, March 17 is a day of international celebration, as millions of people around the globe put on their best green clothing to drink beer, watch parades and toast the luck of the Irish.

That's so cool on all the family tree stuff you have Janet. That's good to have them organized so you know who is who and someday for others to know. My recently discovered cousin on my father's side is putting together a family reunion this summer but I doubt we will make it. She is in NJ and it's just not in the cards for us to go. It was interesting to know how many brothers and sisters my grandmother had because I didn't know any of it.

I'm not cooking anything special for St. Pat's day but I do like a lot of the food. I love corned beef if it's cooked right and not fatty, roasted cabbage, stew, soda bread, the potato pancakes ... all of which DH won't touch. Buy yourself a bottle of Bailey's and celebrate by raising a glass. LOL!

Hoping it warms up nicely today. Want to get out for lunch and with LD too. Also need to get the car washed and will run it thru the car wash.

    Happy St. Patrick's Day Everyone!
Very cool about all your ancestry photos and such, Janet. I have many old pics but sadly I don't have anyone to tell me who some of the people are in the photos. Enjoy your dinner tonight.

Nice history article, Linda. I agree get a bottle of Bailey's and celebrate. Enjoy your lunch out.

I have been the very lucky and fortunate recipient of a lot of my Ancestor's old, old photo albums. All absolute treasure. One day when I get older I shall have to try and pass them on to someone a lot younger and try keep them in the family. At least now I have pretty much digitalized most of it so it won't get lost no matter.

    Enjoy your lunch out Linda!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Joce. Very nice to see you this morning!!!! :) You never know, some day you may discover who your old pictures are of. For eg. Within the last couple of days I was contacted by a woman in Oregon who is the Grand-daughter of my Great Grandfather's brother. I have no clue what her Grandfather ever looked like but I do have my Great-Grandmother's photo album and it is entirely possible that there are photos in there of him but I just don't know it. She told me that she has photos of her Grandfather so when I do finally get to see them, I may actually be able to identify some of the photos in my album. SO much fun! :)

I too have old photos Joce and Janet and no one to ask who they are of. Some people I know and others I don't. I have two rolls of 8mm film too that I have no idea what's on them. Someday I want to have them converted so I can view them but it's $$ and not knowing who may be who or even what it on them ...

Had some heavy cream leftover and didn't know what to do with it. There was only 1/2 c. so I made hot fudge sauce. I'm not huge on desserts but do like a little something sweet and find a spoonful of peanut butter and a spoonful of fudge sauce is a very nice treat.

Well I best get moving so we can get out ... It's already 72(f) so by the time we get to lunch it'll be perfect.

We've transferred a lot of Jim's family's old home movies over and it did cost a pretty penny alright Linda. Glad we did it though. NOM on the hot fudge sauce. I'd be pouring that over ice cream in a flash. :) Have a great lunch out!

    Good afternoon;.

Janet, good for finding a filing tote so you can keep pix together! I have some that I have no idea who they are. When my mother was alive she could have told me every one and how many cousins how many times removed!

Great history lesson, Linda. You always come up with the most interesting facts. I am not too fond of Irish dishes either. But I heard that they didn’t originally have corned beef and cabbage, but a beef roast. Hot fudge sauce is so good!

Hi Joce. Good news about Corrine remarrying.

Puppy did okay overnight except he left two presents in the crate. I think he snagged some of Fritz’s food or else ingested something outside that his puppy system couldn’t handle. At least it was in the crate.

We walked both dogs at noonish. In separate but equal areas....LOL! Then I took puppy to the barn and let him explore the fence to the chicken yard....he was not too keen on the birds that were bigger than him. He ran as far as his leash allowed and chased AC up trees. AC acted like he was playing....he climbed four different trees. The dogs played outside and started again inside. When Fritz was past ready to quit puppy went into his pen and finally fell asleep. He is out cold.

We are changing out four doors. All are from 60 years of age to about 30, and we wanted security doors instead of hollow wooden ones. They had a sale bec of the RV show discount so we saved a bunch.

GS is at a swim meet but have not heard how he did. He may have had later start times.
Daughter said he was hesitant about leaving his new puppy boarded at the vet, and felt better about us keeping him. He is adorable, even with his limited puppy brain. However, I now am 100% sure why I don’t ever want to get another puppy!

That's nice for Corinne Joce! :)

Eesh on the presents Karen. :) Sounds like you tired him out. Nice on the new doors. Good luck to your GS at the swim meet.

Jim and I ate up a bunch of leftovers for lunch. I cleared one shelf of photos and then got sucked back into Ancestry. :) Sens Game on tonight. I guess I could go prep the sauerkraut. Here it is 5:30 already! Goodness!

I did get a bunch of packing down for our trip as well. :)

Good evening and hello to all. Been so lazy here today. Been wanting to rearrange some things in my kitchen and started.........but gave it up. Just don't feel like doing anything! Was a busy week. Was suppose to have grandson for the night, then not, now have him, lol! I need a program to keep up. Since daughter's beau (Kevin, I will quit calling him "the beau", lol) nephew was staying with his mom for the night, Kaiden thought it be fun to stay there. Until he found out that the nephews friend was still there and apparently last night when he was there, he picked on Kaiden quite a bit. Plus, "Kevin's" daughter Tori is there and sick as a dog with stomach flu. So, no brainer, I'm going to Grammie and Opa's house, lol! No worries here! Karli and Kevin are going downtown tonight as there is a huge St. Patrick's Day event going on. They can walk from her house so parking isn't an issue for them as it is for most. Kaiden has already been fed dinner so don't have to worry about that.

Going to do a baked brie and eat with green apple and crackers for me. Hubs is having salmon. Have some frozen filets already marinated so good to go.

Happy for Corinne. Wished she still popped in here. Such a nice and funny lady!

Hope all enjoy the rest of Saturday!

We had a nice afternoon out. It was a really great day weather wise. We had burgers at Ford's Garage and walked around after but didn't see anything I was interested in at any of the stores. On the way home stopped at another outside mall but this one isn't as friendly to walk. We went to JCP and I got 3 pretty tops, a little on the dressy side. Most of my wear these days are t-shirts so it's nice to have something a little more dressy to wear out to dinner/lunch.
I made DH dinner. Heated him up a prepared chicken cordon blu and made a rice and veggie side. I am not hungry and picked on celery stixs and some rolled up lunchmeat. Had a spoonful of cold hot fudge sauce and peanut butter for dessert.

That's so cute you tired the puppy out Karen. They do have lots of energy and require so much attention ... just like a child. Good luck to GS as his swim meet.

Some days it's good to be lazy Kimmer. You go-go-go all week and deserve to take that break when you get it. Better GS is with you tonight if Tori has a bug.
