Saturday's Soup

  • chuckieb 10 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! A chilly but bright Saturday morning here in the Ottawa Valley.
Joce...you're such a sweetie! Thank you so much for all those links yesterday. That was a lot of work!
I ended up jumping in the car and heading into town and grabbing ingredients to make more Enchiladas. Made a pit stop at three places and was home within an hour, made up the extra food, prepped toppings and made a salad and then back in the car to head to the airport. Whew! Jim and I arrived home around 7 and my girlfriend showed up minutes later. Dinner was on the table by 8 and she loved it! Had a really fun visit!
Glad you told me the Chipotle peppers were in the fridge section as I would have never thought to look there.
Taking it slow today. It always takes Jim a couple of days to get back to feeling normal after travel and time change! The Sens Game is on at 1 p.m. so we'll hunker down and watch that.
I'm going to make a Roast Chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes for dinner this evening. Good comfort food and I haven't made Chicken gravy in years!!!!!!
Tina....you're getting close to the finish line! :) Hope you're feeling okay.
Laurie...what exciting plans do you have for the weekend?
Laura....how's Mr. Suchafuss's retirement going thus far? :)
Lori...get in here and tell us about that Grand-daughter of yours will ya!
Marie....is Rick busy again this weekend with some more orders? Did you have to mow the grass at your parents? :)
A big wave out to everyone else!

    Good morning everyone:)

Janet, I'm so glad your dinner worked out so well! Sounds like a good time was had by all:) Hope the Sens win today! Go Sens!
So far, pretty quiet here this weekend as far as work goes..that's self employment for you, you never know what the day will bring!
I did mow, only because their new (they bought a new mower a few weeks ago, it was on sale:) mower mulches the leaves..so I didn't have to rake:D
Rick wants to go to Olive Garden on Monday if he gets a chance, Veterans can order from a special menu and eat for free..family of Vets get 10% off as well..we will have to see how busy he is that day..he also wants to stop by Dutch Bros for a free coffee:) He was also thinking of getting a free appy at Applebee's..he cracks me up..only because I think he's serious about eating free all day long at various restaurants..LOL

I don't know what we will be having for dinner...

Hope everyone is having a very nice start to their weekend:)

Okay people....talk to me about chicken fried steak! I've heard about it.....saw it on TV the other day....but never had it. Googled it a little bit and I don't know that it turns me on that much. The gravy part especially. Just looks like a flour brothy thing over top?

Aw, Janet, Chicken Fried steak is a definite Southern/ Texas Thing. It was a way to serve up a tough piece of steak and make it palatable. Anything fried has to be good right? Milk gravy takes a lot of pepper to make it palatable. I think if is more like a roux mixed with enough hot milk and cream seasoned heavily with salt and pepper. Some use chicken broth and or water to thin it so it isn't so rich. The piece of beef should be pounded til it is tender than breaded and fried. Some swear by a cast iron skillet others use the deep fry.

What a whirlwind day yesterday. Whew! I love chipotle pepper mayo on sandwiches.

Marie, a mulching mower is wonderful. LOL at the eat the freebies on Monday with Rick. Sounds like a good plan to me.

I have tonight and tomorrow...one day off and then another 8 day stretch. I'm trying to make hay while the sun shines. I got our tax bill and property insurance and they are significantly higher than last year, natch,.....all on my shoulders to pay. I hurt a lot today, I have to get a steroid shot in the shoulder to free up the bursitis before that arm is functional again. I'm still walking just not as far as the first of the week. But I haven't given up.

Salad and soup for us today.

I am glad everything turned out well for you last night Janet.I have never had chicken fried steak either but I have looked at some of the recipes for it too! Roasted chicken with gravy and mashed tators is always a lovely dinner. GO SENS GO!

LOL at all the freebies for Rick Marie:) That is really cool. I noticed one of our Car wash
places is giving Vets a free car wash too! I am sure there are other things like that for them here but I haven't noticed.

Well my car started after it was given a boost and then I drove it for way over an hour on the highway. Then let it sit for awhile and it started up just fine so I am gathering it isn't the alternator. It might be the battery has a weird dead spot? Who knows? I will make sure that I go out and start it everyday now to be sure. I still have an appointment for it anyways as my passengers side window won't go up and down. I cooked a pound of bacon in the oven so it is good to go into the freezer. We had turkey Club Sandwiches for lunch with it in it and they were really good. LOL Now I am too stuffed to think about dinner:) It will be just for me as Den will cook his own burgers and oven fries.

I like chicken fried chicken:) You can use breasts that are pounded thin..very good, with mashed potatoes and home made gravy..I remember Mom pounding a less expensive cut of steak when she made this..good old southern meal is right Tina:) Janet, you really have to try it either way..beef or chicken..it's sooooooooooooooooooooo good:)

Hi Tina! Yeah, I know no matter how busy he is on Monday, he'll (we'll) hit Olive Garden for sure..hopefully we can meet Mom & Dad there:) Veteran's rock:)

It is a new battery Marie and they have checked it? It must be something electrical or a glitch or something b/c this has happened before. I checked and I hadn't left any lights or things on? It is a mystery to me?

Ya, I don't think I'd like that milk gravy stuff. :(
Ug on tax bills and insurance Tina. I hate bills like that. Sorry to hear your shoulder is really hurting. Do you have an appointment booked to get that steroid shot? Hurray on the walking. Keep at it. Baby steps! I'm starting to put my head around going back to the Treadmill. :) I haven't been down there since April I think and I'm way over due. All these lunches out with Mom etc. have put on a few extra pounds that I certainly didn't need to begin with! :(
Sens are winning 2-1 Joce! :) It's been a fun game so far. Action packed and fast. We ate leftovers for lunch and now feel too full to make a big Chicken dinner so I'm going to keep that for tomorrow night instead. :) Thinking a Thai soup and spring rolls now. :) Glad your battery appears to be working again now but I always hate problems like that as you just never know when they'll re-appear and undoubtedly they will! :)
Hmmmm....chicken fried chicken sounds more up my alley Marie, and if I used chicken bouillon in the milk gravy then that would give it more flavour wouldn't it? Food for thought. I'll go check out that link. Thx.

Snow?!? WOW!! Bet it's beautiful! Janet, yes, chicken bouillon would be a nice addition for a more flavorful gravy for sure!!!

Oh, I see what you mean now Joce, I didn't realize you HAD a new battery..I hate intermitten problems, especially with cars..probably some sort of a glitch or short..hope you don't have any more trouble with it!!! Hopefully it's fixed:)

It is beautiful Marie! :) The first snowfall is always magical. I bet it'll be gone by tomorrow. But we got enough that it coated the trees. Sent a pic to Benjamin as he won't be seeing anymore snow! Plus snow always seem to 'muffle' sounds don't you think...and at the beginning of winter, one is very aware of how 'quiet' everything is when it snows. :)
    Night all.
