Saucy Saturday

    Good day friends.
Marie, so sorry you fell. You will probably feel the bruises more today. I'm kicking myself for not getting vet insurance. A few dollars each month would have been preferable to this huge bill.
I do hope you have a quiet weekend.

Laurie, funny about the door handle. We switched all the lever handles to round knobs because Charlie could open the doors. He is frustrated since he can't get into all the rooms. I can't believe the big crowd you had. Do you have many perfume hours after Christmas?

Karen, I recognized the couch from the side profile. I love that fabric and the big rolled arm. I could like Joce, live in your sun room. I love the pic of GS with the JD gloves. Now, did you have leftover boar? My husband is a peacock in disguise. He loves crazy shirts. And straw hats.

Joce, please rest up and follow doctor's orders. I know Den is taking good care of you too. Wishing continued healing and happy moments for you, dear.

Michelle....honey, you have nerves of steel to brave Toys R Us the day after. It must have been mayhem. Good redirect for Caiden.

Our repair for the garage door belt will be in a couple hours.
Olivia is still sick. She was thrilled with her gifts.

I'm craving chili or spaghetti. Don't know which one will end up in the pot today.

    Have a great day.

    Good morning!
No more perfume hours for me right now. Probable have a few towards valentines day.
Took Rachel out driving around the neighborhood. I need a drink lol! Nerve wracking to say the least.
Not sure what tonight's plans for dinner are. Still have plenty of leftovers. Right now Becca and I are watching cheesy lifetime movies.

Lol at Fred and his crazy shirts :) Poor Olivia, hope she feels better soon. Chili or spaghetti? Tough choice!

Hi Laurie!! Yes teenagers learning to drive are a pretty scary thing! My Dad always took me to the High School parking lot, nice and open, not much to run into lol.

Almost lunch time and I am staring at the clock, just waiting. I'm STARVING!! Not going anywhere today after my experience yesterday! Will take the kids to a Toy's R Us a little further in a couple days. I've been eyeballing this recipe for a while so I am going to give it a go tonight Chicken Oreganata! Not sure what I'm going to serve with it yet. Wishing everyone a great day!

Tina, I used some of the leftover pork in Hearty Christmas Leftovers Soup. Wayne loved it. Chicken or other poultry would work as well. I have one chicken breast and a little pork left from Christmas, and about a half pound of ground sausage left after making sausage patties for breakfast today. It was past the use by date, but since I don't follow those anyway, unless the product has gone bad or can is bulging or cracked or whatever, we will use it up today.

Well, Wayne fried the sausage as I get too impatient and he takes his time so it tastes great. We will have sausage gravy and biscuits (or pasta) for lunch, and have to decide on what to figure out for dinner -- maybe chili or pork bbq sandwiches or whatever-I-can-come-up-with to use it. Both meals need some veggie so cranberry sauce, leftover veggies, something or other. Cheesecake is gone. One piece of pumpkin pie is left. (I could call that a veggie -- har har har. NOT.

I love the couch in our sun room! The horses on it really set it off. Wayne is concerned that the style of the back, all cushiony, will sag in time. I don't think it will, since we don't have a zillion kids around to destroy it. When our daughter was small, I had a different mindset toward furniture - strong, sturdy, non-destructive, washable cushions! Sort of like now, only we have cats so it has to be micro-fiber!

Homer is too old and decrepit to jump on the furniture, although right after he lost his hearing we used to come home from church and he would be asleep on the sofa after NOT hearing the car drive up. So funny! I had to cover it with a sheet to keep it clean. He is overly smart.

The rocker (did it show in the pictures?) is well over 100 years old and was Wayne's parents' -- we have a second one that I don't think I can squeeze into the sun room, and will have to cover the seat if I put it in the living room The material is NOT cat-claw proof.

A.C. has figured out how to work the doorknobs by his body is a bit too short to get a good grip, so he has not been able to open the doors. Not being the brightest bulb in the pack, he just gives up and goes his merry way. If he does figure it out, I will have to install a lock so he can't get into the bedroom to terrorize poor Mary. LOL.

OH, Laurie, such fun to teach a child to drive and live through the experience! Is there a good driving school or is it taught in school? We paid for driving ed. for our daughter since it was not offered in school. She still wrecked the car and her boyfriend's car and a rental before it finally sunk in that she could not just drive as she wanted. She has one son who drives, it is so funny to hear her gripe about his speeding -- wasting gas -- when she did it herself as a kid!

Well, this novel is over / finished. Have a great day.

Karen, the only way the cushions would sag badly is IF you had a big dog lounging on the top. Charlie killed the loveseat. When we were out, he would stretch across the back top and his body weight pulled the stiching loose holding the cushions to the back. Once he did that, it was a goner. If I had mom's cicular upholstery needle, I could have fixed it probably but we tradedtheloveseat for a fan installation.

Ah, the joy of teenage driving, not. Grey hair time.

    biscuits and gravy!! Tyler's favorite.

I'm down for a rest, my blood pressure has been sky high for too mnay days, later gators!

Just back from Oroville for a new opener install, the battery on his work truck died..but then started after a few minutes, he's on the way to Chico for another job..he took a batt charger, just in case.. He wants to get an Interstate battery and nothing is open today..I think since it has warmed up a bit, his battery should be ok. It got down to 30F last night..cold for us Californian's:)

Tina, I hate when I fall..I'm a little sore today, but serves me right for not watching where I was going:)

Hi Karen! You maybe tripped on the cobblestone streets in Germany? I remember those well when I was there in High School for a music festival in 1973..wow..1973:)

Michelle, I'm going to check out that recipe you're making for dinner!

Hi Laurie..wish I still had leftovers:(

    Chili mac for dinner:)

Come to think of it, Marie, this was between July, 1980 and Dec., 1983 -- we were in a small town being typical tourists, I stepped off the curb onto a cobblestone street and went down. I thought I stumbled over the curb. This was during an anti-American spell, so we were going to be cool, drive our old Mercedes-Benz, park away from the action, then realized we had worn our German-American Club sweatshirts -- NOT SO DISGUISED after all. LOL.

Batteries and cars are the bane of my life. Hope you can get a new one soon. Wayne thought having the battery tested would be good. Is it an older truck or a new one? Personally, I think older ones are easier to diagnose problems, but that is just me. All of our vehicles are 5 to 7 years old and we will driving them forever. We do have a 1970 Firebird Formula 400 that is being restored (mice ate the wires under the hood) so it will start and run O.K. Wayne is looking into insurance for Classic Cars - it limits the amount of miles but we just want it insured so we can drive it once in a while. Will have to post pix of it some time.

Watching the rain turn to snow on the approaching radar. The rain that was supposed to stop this morning is still going strong. It goes from drizzlie to rain to pausing for a bit, then back to steady rain. Snow would be O.K. -- Wayne can drive tomorrow! He and Homer just went outside to do chores (feed horses), he will bring the dog back inside and then go pick up the mail and the empty trash cans at the end of the road.

Haven't decided what to fix for supper but it will use the last of the leftover pork. Maybe a chili of some kind, probably concocted at the last minute.

I have been reading that some doctors feel lowering cholesterol may not be so great after all. Low limits seem to be implicated in dementia of various sorts. Typical medical information switch, I guess. Coffee is BAD for people - oops, no, now it is GOOD for you -- ? Tea is great - no, wait, not really? Low fat diets are good -- NO , BAD -- for you. Yipes. I give up. We are trying to get away from all processed foods and Wayne is even showing an interest in heritage seeds and growing some of our own stuff. Which out here is hard because we have a zillion rabbits - raccoons -- possums -- deer -- birds -- you name it -- to compete for garden produce.

Alternative hunting season ends Tuesday - I have an A.M. appt. for a mammogram and we will probably go to town together so we can snag breakfast at Waffle House afterward. Then the chiropractor at 1:30. SO that gives us a couple of hours to go shopping but not enough to come home so he can go hunting. I think he is going out on Monday morning and maybe in the afternoon, I probably won't go along because I don't do muzzle-loaders. So far no venison for this year. Such is life.

Hope you enjoyed lunch with your girls, Laurie.

    Tina?

Karen, it's an older truck and he has had the battery forever..years & years! We definitely needs a new one. I agree, when you open the hood of his truck, you can actually see the motor:) It's a good old Chevy 1 ton utility bed..and Rick keeps it really nice:)

Yeah, those cobblestone streets were hard to walk on! I remember the Germans didn't seem to care for Americans at that time either..I believe it was the younger crowd who were that way..not the older...I don't really remember it's been so long ago..I do remember going across the Berlin Wall though..after crossing to East Berlin, we had to get off of the bus (it was a Mercedes as well) and show armed (looked like machine guns) military personnel our passports..kindof scary..and the white crosses that were memorials to victims of the wall..I'll never forget that. I really don't know why we had to go through all of that. Gosh, I sure wish I had paid more attention!

Marie - Wayne agrees the old ones are better. Yes, a new battery would help. Bummer on having to buy one. It was the students etc.in Germany who were more anti-American. We were there when General Dozier was kidnapped and rescued. We were in Germany for 3 1/2 years.

Our trip to East Germany's Lutherland tour in the 80s was interesting, the tour guide said the same guard was nasty the year before, but super easy going that trip. It was the 450th anniversary of the Reformation and they declared Martin Luther a hero because in some weird way he was seen as opposing the rich hierarchy. We toured Mansfield, Wartburg Castle, saw the door which had replaced the original wooden one where Luther put up the 95 theses, Wittenberg, Ulrich (? sp), etc. Anyway, we were treated very well. The guides said, loudly, very business like, that they would have to stay with us when we visited / had scheduled meetings at certain sites at night. But they didn't show and we were free to meet and socialize, etc. I think they were being careful to CYA in case any government official was listening. I remember stopping and some of the younger guys (we were all military and families) got out and handed out chewing gum to some boys. Couldn't do that today.

Tina, I can empathize on one-handed typing. Had to do that when my left hand was broken. What a trip! Too bad Fred is sick - at least it is after Christmas. There are some stomach viruses going around up this way and I don't want one. TV is useless - nothing on tonight worth watching except Harry Potter movies and I have all of them, so we are sitting in the sun room relaxing. It is 7:34 and the rain finally stopped.

We had concocted chili with onions, celery, tomatoes, spinach, leftover pork, and tomato paste. Plus a few spices. Very basic, mostly non-processed except for the sauce. But it was organic even if it was in a jar. I snitched a couple pieces of candy for a dessert. The sugar has peaked and is leaving me quite sleepy. LOL. So I will say good night, see you sometime tomorrow.
