Shopping Saturday

Good Morning and Happy Saturday to you all ...

Looks like a great weekend is in store temperature wise. Sunny, cool start, warming up to about 80(f), and cooling back down for the evening. Probably won't go out anywhere today because it's the weekend and more people than usual will be out shopping.

I pulled out my mom's old handwritten recipe notebook. Want to go thru it today and see what may be in it that I want to make. The pages are yellowed and stained and there are some interesting recipes that I see already like Tomato Butter, Barrel Pickles, Liver Dumplings, Blackberry wine to name a couple. I'm looking for something along the lines of a bread or cookie.
Think I'm going to make ham for dinner with some kind of potato and I'll see what veggie I have that needs to be used. Greens are getting old and will stop at the store, if we go to the gym. to pick up fresh. If not then will have to go tomorrow.
    What's everyone else up to?

Very nice you have your Mom's recipe book, Linda. Everything you mentioned looks interesting but not the Liver Dumplings. Yuck, I hate liver! Sounds like you are going to have a perfect weekend weather-wise.

Den went shopping at little bit later than usual b/c we got more snow overnight so he had to clean the cars off and shovel the laneway before heading out. He found a nice sized turkey for just the two of us and picked up other things we needed. Then he brought home MacDonald's for brunch. I am starting to clean off my dining room table and it is going to take some time b/c I have to go through about 100 recipes I have printed out and put them in the appropriate folders. Not a task I like doing so I will do a little bit at a time. Den is having his normal Saturday fare of cheeseburgers and oven fries and I am going to have sauteed scallops with a risotto on the side.

    Wishing everyone a great Saturday!

    Good morning everyone.

Happy shopping, Linda I would love liver in most any form, Janet. (Tee Hee.) Nice to have your mom's recipes.

    Yay Den for shopping, Joce.

No idea about supper. Supposedly Wayne's buddy is coming over two hours ago (LOL!) and bringing his (adult) daughter to help on the RV building. Which means Wayne will be paying her, of course, which is as it should be, just an unexpected expense. His buddy wants to go trapping on our place next month, and Wayne has told him the building needs to done by the end of the year, so he has a bit of motivation to finish.. They can work it out.

Decorating the Christmas tree is almost finished. My back is not happy. I need to vacuum later and put ornament boxes in the store room. Glad when it is finished.

Supposedly a front is due next week which could usher in a snow storm. The forecast ranges from "it is all going South of us" to social media claiming over 2 feet of snow to minimal accumulation. So no one really knows. As long as it waits until after Christmas Eve I am not concerned. May get a tenth of an inch of rain or even less tonight, that would be good as we are in an extreme drought and every bit helps. I worry about the fire danger, it only takes one turkey to pitch cigarette butt out the car door!

Way back yonder when I was a young flat belly, I too would pitch my butts out the car door and think nothing of it. Now that I am more rotund and older and don't smoke, it does bother me when I see someone pitch the butt. If I'm right behind them they'll get a toot from me as soon as they pitch the butt so they'll know why for the honk.

    Hi Points!

Wayne's buddy, minus daughter, is here and they are working on the building. On the way here he saw smoke and stopped to investigate. In spite of the state wide burn ban / red flag warning, these dudes were burning trash in the back yard of an unoccupied dwelling. The winds were gusty and the entire situation was not safe. He informed them that he was the Fire Chief, we were in a burn ban, and they best hustle back and put out the fire. To make it worse, the water was not turned on at the house and they had only a few buckets of water to use if it spread.

Hi Linda! Your Mother had far more unique recipes in her hand written recipe book than mine did. :) Cool on tomato butter and Barrel Pickles. I'll skip the liver dumplings though. :) Ham sounds wonderful. I've been craving it myself lately but Jim's not a big fan. He'll eat it but he'd never request it.

LOL @ cleaning off the dining room table and all your recipes printed out Joce. As much as I do like the sound of Den's dinner, yours sounds fabulous.

A shame you have drought conditions there Karen. Years and years ago, Jim was in the car with a friend. They were at a stop light behind a car who rolled down the window and through their butt out. Jim's friend got out of the car, picked up the butt and went and knocked on the guy's window. LOLOLOL. Oh dear at the guys burning trash in the middle of the burn ban with no good supply of water close by either. Shaking head.

    Hi Points!

Jim and I headed off after breakfast. Ran some errands and also stopped in to a winery in Richmond that was having a Christmas Open House. It was very nice. They had carollers and actual chestnuts roasting on an open fire. They had lovely treats set out for people to munch on, cookies and cakes, cheese, crackers and also some sort of really tasty jerky? Everyone was encouraged to bring a donation for the Food bank and they were getting a great amount of groceries in. Someone brought two turkeys which they left outside in the cold which was kind of amusing. We got six wine tastings and we really like their wine. A good time was had by all. :)

Bought ALL my baking supplies so think I'll start my Christmas baking tomorrow. I was going to start with Joce's
    Pecan Puffs
but when I unpacked the groceries I realized I grabbed a package of chopped peanuts instead of pecans. Argh. Will go back later this week.

I'll be passing on the liver dumplings too, hate liver!

Nice on getting the right sized turkey Joce. Is it for Christmas or anytime? Too funny about your dining room table but oh how I can relate. How many different kind f cookies do you make?

What does Wayne's friend tap Karen? Yea on finishing your tree. What color lights do you use? Uff on people burning and not even having common sense regarding.

Hi Points. Nice to see you stopping in more.

I love roasted chestnuts Janet. Growing up two of our neighbors had trees and we would always pick and roast chestnuts. They had no use for them so we could pick as many as we wanted. It was an art to step on the pods to open them up and then pick out the chestnuts without getting pricked. Oh no on picking up chopped peanuts instead of pecans. I see peanut brittle in your future. LOL!

Ham dinner hit the spot! Didn't do much today other than go thru some files and am finally feeling good about having things in a decent order. Some more to go but the worse of it is done and I made a promise to myself to keep up with it.
