Short week Monday!

    Good Morning Everybody!
    Lori...how are you feeling today?
Joce, how did your stew turn out?
Michelle, "Skyfall" was excellent. I'm a huge James Bond fan. Used to go watch the ones with Roger Moore when I was just little with my parents. My favourite action scene is right at the beginning of the movie and there is a motorcycle chase scene on rooftops. LOL. It's excellent! So sorry to hear about your Mom having so many falls and is dealing with two infections. The poor thing! Hope she's on the mend soon!
Glad to hear you had a nice birthday Laurie and yum on the Eggs Benedict and the Ice Cream Cake. I love Yankee Candles.
And Marie...how are you feeling this morning too? Sure hope you didn't come down with the flu! The cabbage rolls do require a fair amount of time, so I don't blame you for not wanting to attempt them yesterday especially when you weren't feeling well. Hope a good sleep has made you all better!
Nice to see you on last night Dahlia.
And Tina....."Hate"? Hope that doesn't mean what it seems it means. Hope your first day went okay.
I had planned on trying a new recipe for Thai chicken wings in the crock pot for dinner this evening and then I was going to do Pad Thai as a side and as Benjamin's main.
    http://www.crock-pot.ca/Recipe.aspx?rid=1729#.UJmFkydm2Ag.gmail
But Jim pointed out that I very well may not like the wings in the crockpot as I've found in the past that I don't care for most chicken dishes in a crockpot as I find the chicken tastes stewed. So then last night I see Keni has posted this wing recipe
    Sriracha Wings
So I now have a Chicken wing dilemma! :) Not sure if I have any ginger ale on hand so will check. That may make my decision for me.
Have some housework to do today and the Furnace guy is coming over as we're still having trouble with our new system. :(
Pic below I saw on Pinterest for devilled eggs for Thanksgiving. May have even pinned it from Tina? Cute hey? Have a great day everybody!

    Good morning
Hope Lori and Marie, that you are feeling better.
Janet, I know what you mean about chicken tasting stewed - it's good if that's what you wanted but if you expected a more traditional taste and texture it wouldn't really satisfy. Good luck with your wing dilemma.
Tina, I hope the day turns our better for you today.
Lunch today will include a Christmas orange (finally bought the first box of the season yesterday) and some other fruit as well. Supper will likely be apple and chicken quesadillas and spicy corn as a side.
Have a great day and hi to all yet to come.

    Good Morning!

Janet, I feel a little better this morning. I have full blown laryngitis now. Not sure how that's supposed to work with the phones. I know that I am not supposed to talk at all...although DL will just say that she was able to talk when she had laryngitis. lol I may go to the walk-in near the office today, just because the meds the Phys. Asst gave me at my dr's clinic the other night don't seem to be working. And I'm out of the cough syrup, already. : / I had a hard time sitting up yesterday...didn't have enough energy. Went to bed at 8. lol Feel better as far as that goes today.

I love chicken in the crockpot, so moist and juicy, but, I don't think I'd like wings in the crockpot. I like a little crispiness with my wings. You should still be able use that recipe, just use another cooking method. Here's a couple of recipes I have, and I think either of these cooking methods would work fine with that recipe. Just add the sauce they way it's added here. : ) Hope that works for you.
    Wings In Coca Cola Glaze
    Garlicky Marinara Chicken Wings

I want to see that Bond movie! I used to love Roger Moore as 007. Glad you had a good celebratory day with Benj!

Have a good day at work Michelle! I'm ready for a "Christmas Orange" myself.

Well, the report from Long Horn is not so great. But, I think they were just working the kinks out. We never got bread plates. Asked 3 different people before we got plates for our appetizers. (Cheese stuffed mushrooms, swimming in sauce need a plate...lol). our tossed salads were totally watered down. We thought maybe they had the lettuce sitting in water and didn't dry it at all. Bryan and Robin upgraded their tossed salad to a strawberry pecan dinner salad. It was really good, but, was swmming in balsamic vinaigrette. My Med Rare steak was completely brown all the way through. (Everyone else's was right). They came to our table and told us they were having issues running out of baked potatoes, and asked if mashed would be ok...(on Sat night...at 7pm, you are already OUT of baked? Poor planning)...but, we had baked on our plates. Everything tasted great. The Mgr offered to cook another steak for me, but, I said no. (Heard too many horror stories. NEVER send anything back. lol). He said he would check back with me and be sure, but, he never came back. We will definitely try it again...they have only been open 2 weeks, so, they need to work out the bugs. The drinks were excellent! lol Funny though...we had 4 drinks from the bar, 2 Perfect Margarias, and 2 Crown with Sprite. We had 2 rounds of drinks, and, each time it took 2 people to bring 4 drinks. I think that 2nd person would have been better off delivering bread and appy plates. LOL

Struck out with the Christmas shopping on Sat. I did find a nice belt for Jason at a deep discount, but, that was about it.

Tina, bless your heart. The "real world" is never quite like training...you will get the hang of it. I have faith in you. Hope today goes much better!

HEY to all not here yet! Have a great day!

Was pleased you mentioned Christmas oranges Michelle, as I too bought my first box of the season on Saturday and I'd forgotten that I had them in the fridge! :) Yum on your Quesadilla dinner!
Oh no on the Laryngitis Lori! Indeed it does sound like you should make a point of heading over to that Clinic. Having a hard time sitting up does not sound good! I'm gonna go check out those links for chicken wing prep. Thank you. I appreciate it. Sorry to hear the Long Horn didn't knock your socks off but if they have only been open for two weeks they do deserve another chance. It wouldn't hurt to send them a little e-mail detailing your experience so they get an idea of what they need to improve on. Very funny that you never got your bread plate after all that! Too bad your shopping expedition didn't go as well as hoped but yay you got a good deal on a belt for Jason. Hang in there today and GO TO THE CLINIC!

Yep Lori. I think you have my answer. I'm going to prepare the Thai wings similarly to the recipe links you gave as opposed to the crock pot in order to avoid that soft stewiness. :) Thanks so much.

    Good morning:)

I am feeling so much better today!

Lori! Take care! You shouldn't be trying to talk, can't you take a sick day or 2? I feel for you! Those wing links sound so good! Some friends made a batch of wings a while back they fried the wings to get crispy and cooked them until done they add them into a big bowl with some butter and Tiger sauce...they were delicious:) Just an easy way to get a spicy wing fix!

Janet, I am making the cabbage rolls today! YEA! When you remove part of the core, do the leaves come off the head of cabbage easily once they soften while cooking? I usually separate the leaves to cook & soften...your way sounds easier...

Michelle, dinner sounds very good, do you have that one posted? Have a wonderful day..

Hello to everyone yet to join us!

Glad that is going to work for you, Janet.

Hi Marie! Glad you are feeling better.

I don't have any sick days left. Took them when I had my gallbladder out. I only have one vacation day left, and I want to take it during the holidays. No, I shouldn't be talking. You'd think DL would send me home. No one can even understand me when I answer the phone. I also make phone calls for the loan officers alot...if they need a form from a realtor or something like that. They just had ME be the one to call the landlord about one of our toilets needing repair. Are you frickin' kidding me? DL just informed me that she never felt bad when she had laryngitis. Well, me either. BUT, the damn sinus infection from hell makes you feel like CRAP!! And her asst just told me that I need to drink some hot stuff and that always took care of it for her. (Well...it probably would help). *rolling eyes* So, even if I go to the clinic and get a dr note that says I have to rest my voice, it won't do any good. It will just bite ME in the rear. Cause everyone should have the exact same experience that they have with illnesses. Sorry. I just get so annoyed with this place, especially in times like this.

I'm glad folks are getting on the mend for the holidays. Lori you haven't suffered any husband abuse about the delights of so much quiet in the house have you? >.> ;)
I am also looking forward to seeing Skyfall. I do like Daniel Craig as Bond. I was never a Roger Moore fan. Sean Connery still make my heart beat a little faster.

Puttering about, off to the stores to get a prescription and groceries for Dad. Tonight I'm going to make a ravioli and sausage casserole. It makes my fellows happy and is a super easy make ahead. Always a good thing.
When I get back I should work on wrapping up Christmas presents so I can tell what I've forgotten better. My neice says she saw an article in the local paper that some family of nutniks was already camping out at an electronics superstore so they will be first in line for Black Friday. Its pretty chilly here maybe Darwin will take a hand and remove some insanity from the gene pool.

My world is upside down. Went to sleep around 3:30 and the dogs woke me at 8:00. I'm going to be suffering today. Who in their right mind calls a lost/stolen credit card line on a Sunday night at 10:30 to ask about the transactions on their 91 year old mother's statement??? We handle credit cards/debit cards and not payment transactions to the Credit Union., She failed the authentication process to talk about her mother's card and she went OFF on me with the worst language I've ever heard. Next guy calls and his transaction was declined for being over authorized limit.......3200 dollars for a plane ticket to Australia. It is 11:00 p.m. and HE decides to rip into me because I can't authorize the debit from his account, He has to contact member services to authorize a large purchase before he does it on line, our Fraud team will shut it done until they could verify his intent. He screamed at me because it is going to cost a lot more money at 9:00 a.m. today. Then I get Mr. Kim who has me shut down his card for fraudulent activity. He has a 16000 dollar ticket, that is right 16 grand on his account on a flight to Korea. He denies making the purchase on line,. Then there is the wife with a screaming child in the background losing it because her deadbeat husband, that she threw out of the house just withdrew her rent money on her debit card. She is cussing screaming and wants her money back. He took her card and swiped her rent money......and she said, he is a no good so and so and he gave me a 3k ring and nothing for his kids.
I was a mess when I got home. I just cried and cried. Give me some tshirt sales please.......those people are nuts.

Lori, so sorry you are so sick, my friend. Sending you hugs and virtual hot chicken broth to soothe your throat.....please see the walk-in doctor today. Sorry that LH was a bust, but true, it was new and they are working out the kinks,

I'd do the wings differently....I think they would be too soggy in the crockpot Janet.
    I like crispy wings.

Michelle, let me at that yummy dinner. Sounds delicious. I'm going to stick it out. But, last night was rough and tumble. I can only hope it gets better. My supervisor says that Sunday night is the night for the crazies. I guess so.

Marie, glad you are feeling better. Have fun making the the cabbage rolls. I love cabbage rolls, but really don't like making them. I buy them from the butcher when I am particularly lazy. Bad me.

Hugs to all!!! Have a great day dears. I'm poaching some shrimp to take as supper. Veggie soup for Breakfast. Pears and cheese sticks for snacks. And counting on a double shot of scotch with no ice at 12:20 quitting time. Eating like this is going to be weird. I had crackers and hummus at 1 a.m. and the heartburn was not worth it. LOL Learning curve, learning curve, patience, patience,.

Oh Thank Heavens Marie. So glad you feel better today. Maybe it was something you ate yesterday? No matter...as long as you are all good now. :) Yes, I cut as much of the core of the cabbage out as possible and plunk the whole head in the water. As it cooks, the outer leaves soften and fall off. I transfer those to a clean tea towel to cool and just keep at it until I have enough leaves to start to stuff. It is a fiddly business but worth it in the end. Good luck!
Oh poor you Lori. Oh goodness. Just breathe. They are a terrible bunch to be amongst and you won't feel your normal genial self when you're sick and wanting to go home. Sending little voodoo vibes their way for ya. :)
Hi Laura! That ravioli casserole sounds yummy. Wow, you're really on top of things if you are thinking about wrapping Christmas presents already. I felt all proud of myself on the weekend ordering some books on-line that I know I need to send off the beginning of Dec. but I haven't even checked yet to see what my supply of Christmas wrap looks like. :) You go girl. I shall follow in your footsteps. :) ROFL @ Darwin removing some from the gene pool. Love it.
Oh Tina. I'm so sorry. Are all your calls going to be Credit/Debit card related? I can imagine how horrible it would be to deal with that kind of craziness. Did your work buddy have the same kind of shift? It's going to take you awhile to get used to the time difference of your shifts too. I do not function properly on not enough sleep so I hear you on that front too. Yep, crockpot wings are out. You guys convinced me. :) Your meals for today sound yummy. Learning curve and patience indeed. Hugs.
I am patting myself on the back. Jim and I have wanted to upgrade our TV receiver for the longest time but I HATE calling and dealing with reps in these situations. It is painful, painful, painful. But...I sucked it up. Spent about 25 min. with an On-line chat rep. That was totally a useless exercise except they did give me the # for the Customer Loyalty Dept. However, when I called the #, the Loyalty Dept. was not one of the options and I got a really horrible grumpy woman named Lise who thankfully I only spoke with for a few moments and then she put me over to a Justin in the Loyalty Dept. who was a God Send. He is sending out a technician on Thursday with a brand new HDPVR and is not going to charge me an installation fee nor any charge whatsoever for the receiver itself! And....without me even asking, he is giving us a $5 monthly credit on our phone bill AND another $5 monthly credit on our TV programming. WOW. Go Justin!

Janet, thanks for the cabbage core info! I found this website, looks like some good vegetarian recipes you might like (for Benjamin:) the Shepherd's Pie looks good:)

Lori! Yes, take a deep breath..relax..I feel for you, I have worked for companies who don't give a _hit for their employees well being as well...that's kindof why I dread finding a new job..I'm too old to take _rap from anyone, I'm afraid I would blow up and tell them where to go..(please excuse my French in the above paragraph) You hang in there sweetie..HUGS

Tina, OMG! I am so sorry you are getting such hateful people treating you like that! You have to deal with some very upset people, but they need to realize it's not your fault!!! You hang in there as well...HUGS

Just finished DEEP cleaning the kitchen floor (hands & knees) Just about didn't make it back up on my feet after sitting so long...to think I used to clean houses in my younger years.. dusted my antique cookie jars, cleaned the ceiling fans, my house really gets cleaned when company comes LOL

    Hey everyone!

Marie, sorry I missed you weren't feeling well yesterday but glad you are doing better today! :) We have some cleaning to do over here too! And company coming ..

Lori, really hope you feel better asap! That is a ridiculous way to run a business and that's what we need less of in this country and more companies that treat their employees with the respect that they deserve. Rant off.

Tina, it sounds crazy!! But unfortunately you're just going to have to try to remove yourself emotionally from the work somehow, otherwise it'll drive you nuts! Not easy, I know. But for your own sanity!

Janet, those deviled eggs are super cute! Time consuming, too ;-) Those sriracha wings caught my eye too.

Michelle, dinner sounds good! I don't know what a Christmas orange is and now I feel dense..

I hope I haven't missed anyone, but forgive me if I did. I'm about to run out to pick up some more groceries. Back to chat a little later. Dinner this evening will be Lori's chicken parm with spaghetti and garden salads. Can't wait! I'm trying out my sweet basil cheese!

Wow! Thanks so much Marie. Benjamin and I love Mollie Katzen. She wrote the very first Vegetarian cookbook that I ever bought. I never realized she had a Website. Thanks for pointing that out. Too much fun!!! :) I'm excited! :) You are 'going to town' in the Cleaning Dept. Go you! :) (Cool on antique cookie jars....very fun!)
Hi Dahlia! We just call Mandarin oranges Christmas oranges as that's the only time pretty much that we can get them here. It always signifies Christmas is just around the corner when the boxes of Christmas oranges (Mandarins) arrive. When I was a little girl, there was always a Christmas orange in the toe of my Christmas stocking. I'd like to try Lori's Chicken Parm recipe as well! That basil cheese sounds so good!

LOL Laura. The premise of that book is awesome. I've bookmarked it for myself. Sounds like a very fun read. Thank you for pointing it out to me.
I'm a very good letter writer and I like to write letters and cards. No, let me rephrase that....I love to write letters and cards. Not many people do. I send out about 40 a year and I write each person their own individual letter. I don't care for "The year in review" letters where only one letter gets written and printed off to everyone. Perhaps I am a letter snob. Hhmmmm.....
Tina...sending you good vibes for a stellar shift tonight. GO TINA, GO TINA!!!!!
Lori...did you make it through the day?

Janet, I only have 3 antique cookie jars, one is the double sided kind with bear faces..hard to explain..and the other are bears as well...they were my Mom's and she gave them to me..I have another that isn't an antique that was my Grandma's..I cherish my cookie jars:) Yes, I loved that site, lots of wonderful veg recipes!

Laura, WHAT?? You have Christmas presents to wrap? I am on awe!!! I have never been an early Christmas shopper!!!

LOL Laura...all I have suffered from Bryan is making fun of me when I do try to talk. *rolling eyes* Presents to wrap, huh? Wowzers. I used to start early every year. Been a L-O-N-G time!! OK, now that book just sounds too funny!! I haven't even looked at the link yet...but...that's just too funny. I will have to check it out. So....these idiots are ALREADY camping out???? Seems like that should be against a law, or a city ordinance or something...well...probably not, but, still...

Oh my goodness Tina. Bless your heart...that's a lot to deal with. Hopefully you only get those crazies on Sunday (and full moons...I think we all get them on a full moon...lol). I will get better, Honey. : ) And easier as your body gets acclimated and you are sleeping more, too. Hope today is going better for you.

LOL at the voodoo vibes, Janet. I made it ok. I feel better than yesterday, but, my voice is wrecked. I really need a day without talking. She seemed like she would make me take my vacation day tomoro if I still don't have a voice. I'd much rather go in, and put the tree up and do stuff that I would normally do...without answering the phones...I mean, they are going to have to answer them anyway if I am not there...oh well.

How did the wings turn out? And a BIG WOOHOO to you for your luck with the phone/internet company today. You done good. : )

Marie, come on over. I could use some deep cleaning here, too!! That's one good thing about having company...you sure do get the nooks and crannies cleaned out, huh? We are the same way.

Hi Dahlia! That cheese would be really good in the chicken parm. I hope it worked well for you. Flattered that you are going to try it.

Hope you are getting some relief for your throat Lori. We have a thing at work that if you are permanent staff and are out of sick days for a reason like surgery they will advance you a certain number from the next year, based on the idea that most people don't have large events like surgery annually. I didn't even know about it until one of my employees had back surgery, then shoulder surgery and then got pneumonia within a single year.
Glad to hear you are feeling better Marie and doing the cabbage rolls. I haven't posted the quesadilla recipe yet but it was really good so I will get it up soon.
Tina, I agree with Dahlia that you have to distance yourself. You are used to being there for your customers and helping to solve their problems in a regular business environment. You said it yourself, who calls at 10:30 pm... - I guess people looking to pick a fight with someone because they are struggling to deal with their own issues of leaving things too long, leaving bills unpaid, etc. and it is easy to rant and rave at the 'nameless and faceless' voice on the phone late at night when they get all wound up. It sounds kind of weird but in a way you are giving them a place to vent that anger and in a way that isn't getting someone in their own household in any physical danger. I don't think they really expect you to be able to solve their credit/debit problems but in some sick way they feel better having called "the company" and "told them off". I doubt that those callers ever stop to think that they are verbally abusing a real person who is really there to do his or her job which may legitimately include refusing to authorize their credit. Just my opinion - you can do this job Tina, hang in there!
    Have a good evening everyone.
