Skinny Saturday....

    Good Morning everyone!
Just finished a nice big breakfast of Poached eggs on toast with fried tomatoes on the side. I'm stuffed!
Jim and I are heading into town today to check out the "Ottawa Asian Fest".
    http://ottawacitizen.com/life/food/smelly-tofu-taiwanese-tea-expected-to-attract-10000
I'm excited to see what they have to offer.
Have a ton of my Quinoa salad left over from last night so just have to think of a protein. It's supposed to get hot this afternoon so I'll probably BBQ something.
Hope Wayne's bite is feeling better this morning Karen.
Did you go get some fresh fish Joce?
Did you get your phone service back now Tina?
    Michelle, we missed you yesterday.
To everyone else MIA, pop in and say 'hi'. Wishing everyone a most awesome day.

OOOh, the Asian Festival sounds like a lovely Saturday outing. I'm sure you will find some goodies. Quinoa salad is a good salad to have leftover. Happy grilling, Janet.

Olivia's Jeep is repaired but she is working and we can't pick it up until Monday. Skippy must see the vet. She has a growth on her left eyelid. We are due bands of rain again today. I had a good night's sleep once I fell asleep. Dog gone leg cramps were bad again.

I'm making a grilled egg and cheese sandwich for brunch. I'm fixing some frozen cod fillets with lemon and dill. They show potato boats in the recipe picture. If I find the mandoline I might give it a try. I need to find a vegetable. Maybe some blasted tomatoes.

    Ditto Janet's questions.....??

I hear Charlie raising a ruckus, time to round up the beasts. Later m'friends.

Morning Janet and Tina and MIA.

Wayne is off baling. I am home after leaving him off and deciding whether or not to check out the blackberries -- it is still hot but not as bad as it could be and we may not have any left if I don't do it now. He is always gone baling hay this week so this may the only day I have.

Ottawa Asian Fest sounds interesting. I enjoy some Asian cooking -- Vietnamese (lighter, less oil) is tasty; some Korean; some Chinese. etc. We have Thai - Chinese - Korean nearby, Vietnamese in Springfield. Wayne would probably tolerate the fest as long as he could have his Bulgogi. Ha ha!

Tina, potassium and magnesium are good for leg cramps. Also if you can get therapeutic grade lavender essential oil, rub a couple drops (more is NOT better) above the area that cramps and it will improve circulation...found that our by accident. Water by the bucket is also good. I know, I hate straight water but add a dab of lemon juice to give it a bit of flavor and it works well.

Have to finish pitching outdated stuff- I have some highly questionable Chinese teas that need to go. That way I will have room for the green tea, all 9 million flavors (I got carried away).

Bri and I will ride all the fast fun rides while Michael takes Caiden to all the kiddie rides...he's squeamish lol. Going to eat some good fresh seafood as well, just have to decide which restaurant! Will stop by the fish market after we leave to pick up five pounds of shrimp and maybe some fish. Your great nephew is adorable Janet!! Have a great day everyone!

You would have loved the Asian Night Market Tina although there was no shade and it was HOT out! That's great that Liv's jeep is fixed up. I haven't had a Grilled egg and cheese sandwich in a long time. Should short list it. Your cod for this evening sounds great. I saw whole Rainbow trout at Farm Boy today for $4-$7 each! Great price.
Did you manage to get any blackberries Karen? Refresh my memory.....do you go somewhere to pick them? Are they growing on your property? I didn't see any Bulgogi at the Asian Night Market. Wayne would have been disappointed! :) I need to go through my pantry and do some purging myself.
The link for the Kemah Boardwalk site didn't work for me Michelle but I googled it. It looks like a lot of fun. Bet it was packed on such a summer day! I'm with Michael and Caiden with the kiddie rides. :) Jealous on your fish market and fresh shrimp!
We had a lovely day. Stopped in to our local Farmer's Market but didn't actually buy anything. Popped over to Farm Boy and bought four Cornish Game Hens. They were on sale and I got them all for under $5! Yay!
The Asian Night Market was a hoot. It was super hot and no shade like I said and the line ups were LONGGGGGG! But we basically chose one booth and did the 20-25 min. wait and got some goodies for lunch. Jim had squid and Octopus and I had Lamb skewers and then we shared some deep fried onigari rice served with bonito flakes and a spicy sauce. It was very good!
I picked up a Rib eye on the way home and am going to cut it up for shishkebob for dinner.

I lied. :) I did buy three things at our local Farmer's Market. A tray of six leaf lettuce plants, some arugula and some fresh carrots. :) Memory like a sieve.

Michelle, I assume you are in the passenger seat while typing. Ha ha.

Understand the sieve-like memory completely, Janet. LOL!

Berries are on our place, sort of spread out. The ones I looked at were a few hundred feet from the house. A deer spooked and ran off as I drove the Gator down. No idea if it was buck or doe all I saw was a white tail flashing and legs running. I only picked about a handful or so because of the heat and nasty mosquitoes. Next time I will have to go earlier, preferably with Wayne along to brave the inner bushes.

Wayne is on his way back from baling. I hope the trip goes well - he is driving the tractor and pulling the baler and it takes at least 45 minutes to go the 12 or so miles. You know, the farmer you get stuck behind doing 5 mph on country roads - ha ha!

The check engine light went on on the gray truck yesterday. His buddy called and in conversation he said the check engine light went on on his truck, then his girl friend's truck also - but her's is making weird sounds and the other two just need to see the dealer for a check-up. Not a good day for pickup trucks - LOL!

A neighbor gave us a bunch of what he called "zucchini" but they are actually cucumbers! And Wayne can not eat them. So I will have to look up recipes to use them for pot luck tomorrow after church. Maybe a salad with ??? and cucumbers? I wonder if there is a recipe for cucumber quick bread. I have three must-use bananas so I will either bake or freeze for later.

O.K. enough of this novel. You are probably tired of reading. See you later.

Bonito flakes, I want to buy some for the wiggle factor alone.
Karen, I read that when you lie flat at night the water in your body pools and if that level is too low, you will have leg cramps. I'm on so many diuretics for my ankles, i fighting a sual battle. I tell the doctor I drink a lot of water and she tells me to cut back for the edema. Argh. Are the native critters after your berries? Get them before someone else eats them.....or are they spoiling? Glad Wayne didn't bale.
Karen, I had six boxes of green tea and had to purge them too.

Nice buys today Janet. I love leaf lettuces, but also enjoy the crunch of romaine. Liv wants me to make tzatziki sauce for grilled pita triangles. I like the varieties of Asian food, especially Vietnamese and Thai.

Michelle, you are the brave one. I just don't do crowds like I used too. Olivia was a wild one and would beg for the wildest rides. Glad Fred could take her. I'm a wuss.

My dinner plans changed with Olivia's request. I'm making a lemon caper butter and broil the cod. Pita and tzatziki. Spinach saute with feta crumbles plus the blasted tomato. No potatoes.

I bought some ginger cookies and some fresh peaches for dessert.

Too cool on the Asian fest Janet! Wow, Jim will eat octopus? What an adventurous eater! Cool on your finds, is it cool enough right now to grow lettuce for you? We can only grow it in the winter months.

Glad Olivia will have her car back soon Tina! Yum on your brunch sandwich and your dinner.

Hi Karen! We have blackberries on our land...but we paid someone to mow last week so now they are mowed down :( Lol, yes I was the passenger while I was typing! This recipe is really good for a cucumber salad http://allrecipes.com/recipe/thai-cucumber-tomato-salad/detail.aspx and tomatoes are in peak season right now, so that's a plus!

Glad you popped in Marie, hope you get a little rest time soon!

Kemah was fun, but HOOOOTTT!!! I swear I was soaking wet in sweat the whole time. Michael got away with not having to ride any rides, but that's fine, I still like the fast loopty loop stuff. Just nothing that drops straight down...I will not do that. Michael found out about a water park that is only about 20 minutes away from our house that Marathon (his work) rented tonight from 6:30 to 8:30. It's a small water park with a couple slides and a lazy river http://www.texas-city-tx.org/default.aspx?name=rec.aquatic_center. I told him he could go, but I wanted to stay back because I had about 4 loads of clothes staring at me to fold and a dishwasher to unload, plus I'm pooped from today and the heat. See yall tomorrow, good night!

Hi Marie. Glad you stopped by!

Michelle, I would have to avoid the heat - had a heat injury long time ago and it is not something I want to do again. Wayne has a fit if I don't turn on the A/C when driving the pickup in the hay field - although I feel I can better judge the need for GS and workers to stop and rest in the shade if I don't have it on.

Tina, do you drink iced tea? Tea is a diuretic also. My ankles will swell slightly but it is from the mitral valve problem. I am supposed to be on a diuretic also but tend to forget to take it unless they are swollen. I finally started drinking lemon water. It tastes better than water and the lemon is supposedly good for you. The bears and the critters probably gt their fill of blackberries on our place. The ones I picked were not very sweet - I heard the weather can determine how sweet they are, but don't know for sure if that is true. Hope to be picking more Monday if it doesn't rain and if it cools down a bit.

It is about time for a shower and the bed is calling my name. Tomorrow will be a long day - after church we have a Bass Pro shopping night to attend. Probably late when we get home but hey, that is O.K. with me.
