Sleepless Saturday

  • notyourmomma 9 years ago
Happy Birthday, Michelle! I certainly hope you had a terrific evening. Oh, I remember you got the juicer as an early birthday gift....duh, a mind is a terrible thing to waste and a waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Funny, I sleep in a separate room to not hear Fred's snoring and in exchange I have Lola, the pug, on my pillow snoring louder than he does. Her head is next to my ear and she sounds like a truck.

So what is on your agenda this fine Saturday?
Fred has some outside work to tackle. I have a floor of fur to swiffer. Sister and I are on the great debate over Christmas morning brunch. I'm going to try and write out my cards, err, his cards. Liv wants to make her ugly sweater a bit more tacky, so I'm handsewing garland to the neckline and fuzzy red balls to the reindeer nose. I had her thread a dozen needles for me, since I can't see to thread a needle anymore.

Many hugs to all, have a great day. (Thinking of you Joce)
Picture of the Mother Hubbard shoe in Boyd Hill Nature Preserves, circa 1957. This is the shoe that got me into trouble in 1962. I got caught teaching Billy Embree how to smoke and I was "banned for life" from the park.

Tonight is the Illuminated boat parade in the Vinoy Yacht Basin. Free and very pretty. If I can dress Fred warm enough, I might get him to go.

Morning Tina! LOL @ Lola's snoring. Good luck with the floor cleaning and the Brunch Debate. I have four Christmas cards myself to finish up but then I'm totally done. Do take a pic of Liv's Ugly Christmas Sweater for us. Super cool on the Mother Hubbard Shoe. Is it still there? LOL @ you being banned for life from the park. You bad*** you. :) Nice on the Boat Parade. That'd be something to see alright. LOVE the new ODD Avatar. Too funny.
I'm hoping to make a batch of Joce's
    Pecan Puffs
this morning as well as a batch of
    Peanut Butter Bonbons
We have a Sens Hockey Game to watch this afternoon at one and then my Girlfriend and her hubby have invited us over for dinner to their place....Prime Rib. I'm very psyched.
    What is muzzleloader season Karen?
I had a lovely visit with my friend yesterday afternoon. We didn't go to a Tea Room. :) Just had tea and cookies at her place in front of the fire. I've mentioned her before I'm sure, she's 82? and a going concern. Just came back from a Holiday in Hawaii with her husband and has already booked her next one for 2015. I really admire her chutzpah. She brought me back a little gift box of soaps made with Palm and Coconut oil scented with "Creamy Coconut", "Plumeria Blossom", "Pikake Jasmine" and "Mango Coconut Guava". She is a sweetheart.
Bought some Smoked meat yesterday to make Smoked Meat sandwiches on Rye for lunch with a pickle. NOM.
    Wishing everyone a good Saturday!

Hi Tina. Cute picture! Cool story! Love it! Love the snoring dog story, too! Are pugs prone to nasal problems? I thought I read that somewhere. Since Homer is too arthritic to jump up, he can not get on the bed, or he would try his best.

We have a loudly purring cat sleeping beside me at night, unless she can wriggle in between us. This poor baby was found in a dumpster in Arkansas where the mama cat or some idiot left her and her brother. My daughter climbed in, got them out, and rescued the two kittens. She kept one, gave Mary to a family who then abandoned her, to another family where the father mistreated her and got mad when she had kittens, then conned the mother to allow me to take her and her 4 kittens. I found excellent homes for two of the babies, two disappeared (predators, probably) and we had to move her inside when Butterscotch declared war on her.

I should bring you up when I have bunches of mending / altering to do. LOL. My three blouses, that need one button each, have waited since 2012. I am the world's greatest procrastinator. Sigh. You are very industrious, my dear. You put me to shame.

The swiffer / broom / vacuum are regularly in use here. Homer loses more dog hair than any dog we ever owned. Or maybe just because he is a long haired dog it just seems that way.

Have a nice day. Good luck on getting Fred to the parade.

Morning!! Thank you for the birthday wishes Tina and for all yesterday :) My mom and I just had a conversation last night about getting older and memory loss. I've been a little more forgetful lately but I think mine has something to do with small children and not quite from age yet lol :P I think all pugs have nasal/snoring problems. My friend had 2 and they both walked around making loud noises through their noses constantly. It's the little flat face syndrome haha! Lol at getting in trouble in the Mother Hubbard Shoe, too funny!!

Yum on the cookie making Janet! I think I may whip up a batch of Pecan Puffs as well sometime soon. MMMmmm on the prime rib you will be eating tonigh. Prime rib here is still VERY expensive. I saw one at the grocery store the other day, I think it was around 4 lbs. and it was almost $70! Ouch! Sounds like you had a great time with you friend yesterday :) Enjoy your fabulous lunch!

What a story on your cat Karen! Sounds like that kitty has been through a lot. I'm not a seamstress either, lol. My MIL who does all my sewing and mending is going to be moving to New Mexico next year and I don't know what I'm going to do! It takes me an hour to sew on one patch that she can have done on her sewing machine in 15 seconds!

Going to a new Farmer's Market with my sister (she got out of rehab the other day) today. Here is a list of vendors that are going to be there http://www.ccfm-tc.com/5.html looks like fun! Later on I'm going to meet my parents at Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Off to get ready, have a great day everyone!!

    Good morning:)

Tina, love the picture, those were the good old days for sure..I sometimes wish I lived in the 1950's..but I was born in the '50 and don't remember a whole lot:)

Janet, Rick has been requesting Chicken Parmigiano for the last few days, so a trip to the market is in order..I'll also pick up the ingredients for your Meatball Soup and have that on hand as well..good stuff!
Joce's recipe looks divine! I need to start doing some holiday baking..I can't believe it's already Dec 13!

Karen, good job on your daughter rescuing the kittens..hearing that does my heart good..and for the idiots who put them in the dumpster, your day will come..I'm a believer in karma and I truly hope someone throws them in a huge dumpster and see how it feels..I hate people who are cruel to animals..I guess we all do...

Michelle, how fun on the FA today with your sister! I wish her the best in her recovery..sounds like she's doing very well dear:)

Dinner will be homemade tamales at our neighbor's house this evening..they called yesterday and wanted to get together, so of course we said YES!

    Better get going:)

Hi Joce..thinking of you:) Miss you xoxox

SP Janet - when I posted your's was not showing. Crazy site! It does that to me every so often, I,m sure I hear it laughing when it trips me up.

Year tea invitation sounds super sweet. She does indeed seem like a really nice person, and so great that she still travels at 82. Some of the elderly widow ladies in church still take tours - 2 went alone on different tours - one to Ireland, one to Scotland and Ireland.

Muzzle-loader season - they call it alternative season now since it includes bow & arrow, spear (I kid you not - they have another word that I can't spell or pronounce, atalala or some such thing), and other methods. I guess if you leap on the deer from above and strangle it that would be an alternate method also - aargh! Anyhow, a muzzle loader is the precursor to modern rifles where the powder is inside a casing / bullet and you just pop it in and shoot. Keep in mind I don't use muzzle loaders, so this is info translated a long time ago from my other half, who has gotten deer with them before. You have a shorter shooting distance - ???? 50 yards ?????. You put the ball in its place, put a cap or in older one,s add the powder, tamp it all down, and then shoot. Not necessarily in that order. Before you can shoot again you repeat the entire process. I am sure I have omitted a key step or two or 15, but that is the general idea.

Smoked meat sandwich and a pickle (esp. the pickle) sounds yummy. We are having chili for lunch since the middle and youngest GS are here. I didn't want to use a crock pot so am simmering it on the stove. Youngest one is still raking leaves. He tires / gets bored soon but he thinks he is hot stuff working along side with his brother. He is paid slave wages (4 quarters sometimes for just a few hours) but in between diving in the leaves and racing around the yard, he does rake some. So funny. He is so picky he won't eat chili,so I I will have some peanut butter ready and maybe make cornbread.

Good luck on the sewing , Michelle. I am not the world's greatest, that is for sure.

Well we are all ready, just waiting on my Sister to get here, she is SO SLOW!!

Marie, Joce's cookies are fantastic. Just don't breath out while taking a bite lol :P My Sister is doing well, I think she is VERY relieved to be sleeping in her own bed. She now has to attend meetings Mon-Thur for 3 hrs a night. I think she has to do that for 6 weeks? I will attend a couple with her. Anyway, I think the plan now is to keep her busy :) On Monday she is sending her resume to some companies. Enjoy tamales with your neighbors, YUM!!

Karen, after you post your comment you have to press the refresh button to see if someone posted while you were typing. Otherwise it just looks like you were the only one. Weird, I know. Chili sounds great!

    Argh. lost my post.
I'm giggling over strangling a deer, Karen. Jumping in a pile of palm fronds is never fun. Poor kitty. I believe in pet karma, too, Marie. LOL on not breathing when eating snowball cookies, that's what my mom called Pecan Puffs. A snoot full of powdered sugar is cough inducing.
Tamales, chili, all sound delish. A sprightly tea drinking friend who plans her trips to Hawaii is a woman with chutzpah, Janet. Michelle, you are a good sister.

Had to take a nap and had another night terror dream. It was awful. I hate them.

This sweater may not make it to tacky. My vision is very bad today. Blurred would be an improvement. Maybe if I just breathe deep a bit, my eyes will focus.

Dinner is pizza from the freezer and a big salad with 1000 Island per Fred's request. He rarely asks for a salad dressing, so thank goodness, 1000 Island is an easy fix. He did ask for homemade egg nog....I don't know why at all. I need Laura (otterpond) to help. I've never made homemade egg nog. He asked me for 'filling' the other day and I still can 't determine what 'filling' is? Christmas filling just like his mom's.

UGH! I hit the delete button instead of the enter button and lost my post. GRRRRRR!
That was super great of your daughter to rescue the two kittens from the dumpster Karen. I'm with you on the Hate sewing front. Jim does little jobs like buttons and such and we have a very reasonably priced seamstress locally that does the hemming. :) When does Deer season end?
You can totally credit your kids for your occasional memory lapse Michelle. We lead such busy, busy lives that it is no wonder that the occasional blip occurs. :) Joce's Pecan Puffs are out of the oven and my kitchen smells wonderful! Ouch on the $70 Prime Rib. And you're in Beef Country too! Cool that your MIL is moving to New Mexico. That's wonderful news that your sister is done her treatment. Have a great time with her at the new Market. I checked out the Vendor List. So many booths I'd have to go see for sure. I"m very envious. The Honey Bee, Texas Olive oil ? (who knew), Sprouts and Krauts (that's got my name written all over it) and there's Indian food too and you know I LOVE Indian food! Enjoy dinner out at the Roadhouse with your parents. A fun day you have!
Marie, I'm so tickled you guys like both my chicken Parm and the Meatball soup. They are both standbys in our household. :) I'm a big believer in Karma as well. Hear-hear! How fun you're heading to your Neighbours for Tamales this evening. YUM! Have a great time.
We had so much leftovers from dinner last night we've decided to wait on the Smoked Meat sandwich. Boo. :(

I made (store bought tube) biscuits and a jiffy mix corn muffins with an extra egg to go with the chili. When GSs are picky they get peanut butter for bread or in this case, biscuits. Amazing how unpicky they become when I do that, or when they have been working in the cold weather and are tired out and hungry. Middle GS "doesn't like" tomatoes - he had seconds on the chili. Youngest one is super picky. He eats a lot of peanut buttter at my house because he turns up his nose at a lot of stuff. He has figured out that Grandma doesn't cater. And has no sympathy!

FM vendors sound wonderful. I will look up the URL although I will probably never get up that way to visit it. LOL.

I knew about hitting the refresh button but my brain is not too sharp this afternoon and was worse this morning. So I made like the Flubadub. (How many of you remember him?)

Yes, Tina, I have never tried the "strangle the deer" method of hunting. It does not appeal in the slightest. I would probably fall out of the tree. Palm fronds would not work well, I don't think. I haven't done homemade eggnog either - my homemade is made at the factory and pours from a container. Homemade is probably much much better and better for you and so on. I have seen recipes for it on AR and am sure there must be some on GR also, but never really looked into it. Or, more accurately, ran screaming from the site.LOL.

I agree on treating critters kindly. Our daughter has taken in mistreated cats and dogs and relocated them. A breeder (years ago in Arkansas) would just kill any dogs that did not meet show quality. A friend "acquired" one and gave it to her, and it was a very sweet little dog. Her ex stole it when he deserted her and the kids and we have no idea if it is still alive. When they would go away for the weekend, the little pooch would just climb in our car and come home with us, very happy and content until we brought him home, then he would trot in and resume his residency.

The drier just signaled that it is finished, and youngest GS is having a good time with his bow and arrow. He only has two arrows so we will have to get him a few more. He is restricted to how much he is allowed to use it and only here under adult supervision. Here he comes - I think I have a Gator ride to do. See you later.

SP Tina. You'd have to hang on pretty tight to strangle a deer I'd think. :) Sorry you had a rough sleep. Yum on pizza for dinner. I wonder if Fred means like filling in a streusel? He wouldn't mean 'dressing' or 'stuffing' would he?
    George Washingtons Eggnog
Never heard of Flubadub Karen. That's nice that your grandson has been enjoying the bow and arrow.

We saw a family of deer this morning walking around..a buck, doe and 2 smaller ones..they were a family, you could tell.

Janet, we adore those 2 recipes of yours:) Chicken Parm tomorrow:) I'll make the soup next week and take Mom & Dad some:)

LOL Michelle! I'll try to remember to not breathe out if I get a chance to make Joce's pecan puffs:)

OMG Karen, I cannot believe someone would kill a dog because it's not "show quality" Karma hopefully takes care of that _______ as well:) Do people actually strangle deer?

Well, off to check the dryer..seems like I'm always doing laundry!

Ha ha --- no Marie I don't know of anyone who could strangle a deer. They are too big. Rest assured no stranglers are lurking in the woods. Some do hunt with spears, for whatever reason, but they are few and far between.

For these younger generation folks who were TV deprived in their early childhood - Flubadub was a character on (if I recall correctly) "The Howdy Doody Show" with Howdy Doody and Buffalo Bob Smith. It was a clean kids' show with Clarabelle the clown (Bob Keeshan) who later became Captain Kangaroo on his own show. This was in the early 1950s.

GSs have gone home and we have a Christmas party to go to this evening.

Have a good evening. See you later.

LOL..I figured as much Karen! I was thinking that would be next to impossible to strangle a deer:-D Wow on using spears..kindof like what was done by my ancestors...
I loved watching Captain kangaroo when I was a little girl:) Good memories:)
Have a very nice time at the Christmas party!

    Hey all
We went out for chinese food after I got home from Macy's.
We have something called coywolves in wilmington and it's just like what it sounds a mix of coyote and wolf. There is a guy that has a wildlife camera and he posts the highly film from his neighborhood and he posted a huge one. Frank and I thought it looked like a wolf.
So after all that Market basket saga over the summer the sale is complete and Artie T is the official owner and he gave every single employee a Christmas bonus! Some of the bonuses are reported to be $5000. And all came with a note from him thanking them.
