Smiley Sunday!

Good Morning everyone! I'm smiles from ear to ear this morning.....happy to be home and delighting in a hot shower and a sit by the fireplace to recoup from yesterday's travel! We left our apartment in Taipei at 6 a.m. their time Sat. morning and turned the key in our lock at home last night at 11 so it was pretty much 29 hours door to door. I did actually manage to sleep a fair amount on the trip home which was awesome. The flight went well. No hiccups. However, when we took the Park 'n Ride Shuttle to grab our car at the airport in Ottawa the car wouldn't start. Luckily they carry a battery charger and got us fixed up in a matter of minutes...no charge. So nice!
    Making
    Chalet Style Chicken
    for dinner this evening with
    Twice Baked Spinach Potatoes
and more steamed spinach on the side.
I woke up around 4 a.m. and couldn't fall back asleep so got up at 5 a.m. Jim got up around 6:30. I expect I'll fall asleep in my chair at some point this afternoon. :) Unpacked my suitcase and am about to do a quick run into town to grab some groceries.
My heart breaks for the people of Paris but my heart has broken a lot with recent news, the girls who went missing in Nigeria, the Syrian refugees, etc. etc. We need to do a better job of things and help each other out.
Love the pics of Wayne and the Harley Karen. He looks totally thrilled. :) Yikes on the hog damage on your property. How did the Fire Dept. fundraiser go? Too bad on your brownies not turning out as you had hoped.
Hope you've cracked that bottle of bubbly open with your Sunday breakfast Marie. Good idea actually. I shall add one to my shopping list as well. :) Yum on your taco salad last night. I don't have a recipe per se and mine's kind of boring too I guess but I love it. I just put ground round that has been seasoned with taco seasoning over romaine and add shredded cheddar, tomato, onions, avocado sometimes and then nacho chips or leftover crushed up hard tacos. Then I use salsa and/or a dressing like "Western".
Cool on your bundt cake Joce and thanks for the tip. I'll TRY and remember that for the next time I make something in my mini bundt pan. What colour tiles did you go with for your laundry room?
Very cool on your walking and training dogs Bren. That's got to be a fun job! Your steak dinner last night sounded great. I'm going to put that on the menu at some point this week myself.
Thanks for the warm welcomes home guys. Glad to be here.

Welcome home Janet! Wow on traveling for 29 hours..so good you were able to get some sleep on the plane trip home;) Your dinner sounds amazing..love the Chalet Chicken..the sauce is yummy:) That's basically the way I made taco salad as well..we like to serve with a garlic vinaigrette or thousand island with some salsa mixed in or french dressing:) I don't think I have ever see Western dressing?
I am so very saddened about what happened in Paris..my heart goes out to all affected by this vicious attack..what is going on these days? Why can't these terrorists be stopped?

Well, I'm thinking of making calzones for a game day snack...I have some Pillsbury Pizza Dough that should work and make this much easier:) Love shortcuts:)

Have a lovely day everyone...we're just having some coffee and watching it rain!
Might have to break out the bubbly a little early today:)

Thanks Marie! Western dressing is sort of like Russian dressing but different. I can't buy it in Canada. I stock up in Minnesota whenever I visit my Mom in Rainy River. :) Speaking of which, I'd better put that down on my list.
Yummers on the calzones. I haven't made those in forever. That's good you're getting some rain. We got a lot while we were away and our pond is all full up again so that's nice. We can maybe skate on it again this winter.
I had a good shop in town. Only bought one big bag of groceries and went to get a 50 lb. bag of peanuts at the Hardware store for my bluejays who are already flocking down and feasting on them. I feel missed. :)
    Making
    Polish Dill Pickle Soup
for lunch. Goodness it feels good to get back in my own kitchen with my own pots and pans and gadgets. :)

Welcome home, Janet! OMG!... I don't think I could ever travel that long! Yes it must feel great to be back home and use your own kitchen again. The tiles are sort of a mottled grey looking and they are for our freezer room not the laundry room. Our freezer room also has a sump pump room in it as well as my shoe room and storage shelves. I don't know why they laid carpet in that room?

    Enjoy your relaxing day, Marie.

Bren, In answer to your question. Den will lay the tiles with me assisting him. I used to have a Hobby Farm and I renovated an old farm house and I laid all the ceramic tiles in the laundry room and bathrooms. Lol I was much younger then:) Very cool about being a dog walker and trainer.

Laundry is in the process of being done and we are having Garlic studded pork roast with mashed potatoes, gravy and steamed asparagus.

    Wishing everyone a pleasant Sunday!

Oh yes I forgot to mention we went out for breakfast with Chris my son and the kids and it was wonderful to be able to hear what everyone was saying! I am really getting used to my hearing aids.

Hi Joce! Your new tiles sound lovely. It is strange to have carpeting in a room that has a sump pump in it alright. So you have a shoe room do you? LOL. Very fun. Good luck laying the tiles. Jim's done that in the past but I never have. Your dinner this evening sounds wonderful. I could so totally go for that. I just called my Mom a bit ago and she said my Aunt Irene (who is 87) has her two grand-daughters down visiting and she was teaching them how to make pork roast and gravy last night. :) How sweet to share things like that eh? Nice that you had breakfast out with Chris and the kids. That's awesome you're getting used to the hearing aids. Did you talk to you Dr. yet about the wires in your chest?
Soup was yummy and I made us a grilled cheese sandwich as well. The time change plays havoc with ones appetite as well.
Saw an injured turkey out on the back lawn. Looks like it has a broken leg and some feathers ripped off near its neck. Could have been fighting with another turkey or perhaps something tried to get him but didn't manage. We had a turkey with a broken leg around a winter or so ago and it was dreadful to watch.

It is nice for someone to share how they cook things, Janet. Very sweet of your Aunt Irene to do that for her Granddaughters and imagine doing it at 89! I don't see my heart surgeon until January to ask about the wires and other things. I was looking at the tiles again and they have a bit of mottled brown in them as well. Now I like them even more. Lol I have more shoes, boots, sandals whatever b/c I am a sample size 6. I will never be able to wear them out. Lol and I always wear the same shoes. Cailey my GD can't wait until she is size 6 to raid them. Brianna has very narrow pencil feet, I call them... so she has never lucked out.
You sound busy, Michelle! Ham and potato soup sounds great especially with the bacon on top.
Has anyone heard anything from Tina? I play a Crossword Game with her everyday called "Words With Friends" and she has not played or been on FB for over 3 days! I hope it is just computer issues. Even still I do have a big imagination and I worry about her falling an being unable to call for help. I hope she is O.K.

Janet, I still haven't tried the Polish Dill Pickle Soup:( I need to put that one in my planner as a reminder..oh dear on the injured turkey, I hate seeing that..we've noticed many deer limping near our home and just hope it's an injury and not broken so they get better...there's just not much you can do in there situations...

Joce, cool on the new tiles! Bet they will look beautiful:) I am so happy to hear your new hearing aids are working so well for you!

Hi Busy Michelle! Sounds like you are all having a great day:)

Ooooo....that soup sounds excellent Michelle. What recipe do you use? Have fun at the ball fields.
That's so fun that Cailey is eyeing up your shoe collection Joce! I haven't heard from Tina. Like you say, she hasn't posted on FB since Thursday. I miss her on here big time.
Do try the Dill pickle soup Marie. It's so good! :)
I'm fading fast. Jim has lit us a fire in the fireplace. I've got dinner all prepped and just have to throw it in the oven. I arranged to borrow some extra folding chairs for my Mom's birthday party and I've found out where I can order a big cake from. I also messaged the local paper in her home town to find out about placing an announcement in it for the Come and Go Tea.
Got a call this afternoon that Jim's Aunt and Uncle are coming through Ottawa on Tuesday. We invited them for dinner and they're going to stay over as well. Looking forward to it and making up a menu tonight so I can grab groceries tomorrow. Also need to do a quick house cleaning tomorrow as well. And supposedly I have the second part of my root canal tomorrow although the office called a couple of times when we were in Taiwan wanting me to call back and verify the appointment but of course I wasn't here to do that. So not sure if it's a go or not. I'll call first thing in the morning. Wouldn't be disappointed at all if they moved it to later on in the week. :)

Welcome home, Janet. Wow, on the length of the trip. Your chicken dinner sounds so good, bookmarked for a later date. Thanks, I do enjoy working with the dogs.

Yes, it is sad Marie. Such a waste of life. How were your calzones?

Thanks Joce. The tiles sound very pretty and so much better than the carpet. We've also done a lot of renovations and I really enjoyed it when we were younger, not so much now. We stripped a staircase that took us a year, in our spare time. Never again. It's always nice to share a meal with the kids.

Oh, that poor turkey Janet. We had a goose at the lake with one eye last year and it flew in circles, so sad.

We are having this Roast Beef Cooked In Pasta Sauce Italian Style for dinner. I was going to make fresh pasta to go with it but had a nap instead. The construction crews were working all weekend, no sleeping in here.
    Enjoy your evening everyone.

Welcome back Janet. Wow! 29 hours is a bit much for me to think about traveling. So glad you had such a wonderful visit. It sounds like a predator (bobcat? coyote?) attacked your turkey. It is sad when that happens - nature can be rough. We nabbed an injured mallard duck once, and put it in a cage and gave it penicillin and doctored its wounds. We think an owl or large bird of some kind grabbed it and somehow it got loose. It was glad to be released and hung around for several more years.

Hello to Bren - Joce - Marie -- Michelle.

The ISIS attack in Paris is indeed terrible. What a waste of life. I read that months ago ISIS warned they would flood Europe with "refugees." At least one of the killers admitted to being in ISIS.

We are watching Alaska the Last Frontier. Trouble has plopped down on my legs, Mel is on the back of the chair, and Mauser is laying in front of the heater trying to soak up as much warmth as she can manage. A.C. has decided to lay down on top of my hunting jacket, which is beside my rifle, on the couch....tonight he is being anti-social.

It has been a busy couple of days. We are both tired. Tomorrow he has to prep for a colonoscopy for Tuesday, so I will take his report to the fire department meeting. He is antsy to go hunting Tuesday afternoon but the DR. will probably negate that -- he will have to be patient until Wednesday.

We are having a Schwan's turkey dinner and cole slaw (from the BBQ) and peach pie for supper. None of which I had to fix. LOL. Way to go.

Have a nice evening, all. See you Monday.

    Tina, miss you.
