Snow Cone Sunday

  • MissouriFarmWife 6 years ago
Well, snow cones are mostly ice and the highway is all ice, hence the name!

J is a skating rink....Wayne checked the road because he never gives up until the last minute, came back and said he could not even stand on it, much less drive! Church is cancelled. He had trouble even turning the truck around.

Central MO is almost all ice covered. We are House bound for sure. The forecast for Thursday is a high of 69 F. Guess that is the norm for Missouri Ozarks weather!

GS informed daughter that he is now 12% better. He cracks me up!

    Have a nice day, all!

Good Morning Karen! Eesh on the bad roads. Certainly sounds like it's best just to stay put. How is Mel this morning?

Still nursing my first cup of coffee. Heard from Benjamin. He is worn out (went to bed really late and got up early *for him*) :) He met up with some Esperantists in Ho Chi Minh City and went to the home of the President of the local Esperanto Society who is in his 70's and is an artist and poet. He's also fluent in English and Russian and even knows a little Chinese. Benjamin got a private tour of his home gallery which consists of over 3000 paintings. He has paintings on display in the National Museums of Saigon and Hanoi. How cool is that? Benjamin says he'll send me on some pictures when he gets a chance. He also went out to a Vegetarian restaurant with one of the Esperantists and said the food was awesome and they use a ton of fresh herbs which really make the dishes come alive. His friend from Taipei just arrived so he is heading over to meet him. He's having an amazing time. I'm so pleased for him.

We're supposed to get freezing rain this afternoon. Not sure of our plans yet. I want to make those Cinnamon Jello shots and I'd also like to decorate a bit for Valentine's Day. No clue what to do for dinner although I think I'm 'chickened' out. I do have a small Ham in the freezer and a few Beef Roasts.

    Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday.

LOL @ your GS saying he was 12% better Karen. That's pretty precise! :) Ugh on the fire call last night. That's wonderful the prisoner has been apprehended. Awesome. Just read back last night's posts so see Mel was improving. Wow on the bobcat/housecat cross. You wouldn't think that was actually possible given the difference in sizes? But I guess. LOLOL.

Hi Janet. You are welcome to freezing rain. We are ready to see Spring Ha ha. Had two cups of coffee and am ready to take a nap!

The shots sound interesting. Since they have alcohol in them, and there are only the two of us here, I think I will pass. But they do sound interesting. And cool! Your girl friend should enjoy them for sure.

It took my daughter forever to get home last night. She averaged about 20 mph! A pickup did pass her but most people had sense enough to go slow on the skating rink! Even the plows drove slower than usual.

Okay, nap time! See you later.

    Good Morning Everyone.

Smart to stay in today Karen. There just is no winning with ice. Glad you were able to get Mel to the doctor yesterday. Will you be bringing him back to get his teeth cleaned? Glad GS is feeling better, perhaps the Ginger Ale helped. Wow on the bobcat/housecat cross breed. Maybe if the guy is that politically skewed maybe his perception of the breed of his cat is skewed too? Regardless, like you said, he is taking good care of it.

So cool to hear about Benj. adventures and way too cool to have gotten a private tour. I bet he is tired and hopefully will balance out in the next day or two so he can really enjoy his time there more. Have you toasted any English Muffin bread yet? What do you think?

That's wonderful you have two little ones to have Valentines day for Kimmer. The big kids too appreciate everything I'm sure but for the little ones it's magic. Yikes on your DH overdoing it. Rest does mean rest and hopefully he will.

Speaking of breads and such Joce I bookmarked a recipe I have been wanting to make for some time and bought the ingredients about 2 weeks ago but just never committed to making it until this morning. It's called a New England Spider Cake. I made half the recipe and I do like it! It's very custardy. It's still cooling but I did cut a corner to try, I just couldn't wait any longer.

Caught a little of the Olympics last night. Was watching skating and a few of them fell quite a bit, even caught some snowboarding and again one of the guys fell. I felt so bad for them to have gotten this far and in their moment faltered thus their chances of Gold.

No clue what'll be for dinner.

I do want to make a few of these today so I have them and then want to make a crock pot recipe using them. I will however cut back the portion when making the crock pot recipe being it's just DH and I. It notes the condensed soup recipe freezes well so I'll freeze some as well.

I have been wanting to make the condensed soup recipe for a while. Just need to write he ingredients so will pick them when I shop for groceries.

There is no way of figuring out the man I saw Saturday, Linda. I won't dignify his views by repeating them, but he is unusual for sure.

Mel is better. The wound is not infected and he actually jumped. Yay! Have not figured out his age but decided he is about 16. More or less. He will not enjoy the meds, but that is okay. Yes, his teeth will need cleaning but have to get thru this first.

Well, no nap! But I best go get dressed and face the day.

    See you later.

A good thing you and Wayne are staying home today, Karen. Better safe than sorry when there is freezing rain. Glad your daughter took it easy coming home last night as well. Lol @ your GS and his small percentages. I hope he has improved in very large percentages today. A bobcat/ housecat! I would like to see it for sure. The man sounds like he was a bit odd, to say the least.

Very cool that Ben was able to have a tour of the artist/poet's house, Janet. I would love to see the pics of it. It must be a huge house! Lol, strange you of all people being 'chickened out". Between you and Marie I don't think I have ever heard of anyone eating so much chicken. I have chicken probably once a week and that is enough for me. Have fun making your Jello shots.

The cake looks like a good recipe, Linda. I pinned it on Pinterest. We watched the skating last night too. Then we watched the Curling it was good too. I joined GR b/c of Keni's Make It Yourself Condensed Cream Of Soups before that I was on AR. I am still a member of AR but it has changed so much now.

WOW, Kimmer! You are certainly "The Holiday Queen"! Hope your HB is taking it easy.

Michelle, Bri looked fabulous in her dress for Valentine's Dance! did they have a good time at the sleepover?

We are doing laundry at the moment and then Den will go out and clear the snow in the driveway before the freezing rain comes. Then after the freezing rain, we are supposed to get a flash freeze. YUK! We will probably have pork chops for dinner at least that is what I am thinking at the moment. I will pass that by Den and see what he thinks.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Good Morning Linda. Yes, we toasted two slices of the English muffin bread for breakfast and served a slice of ham and a poached egg on top. I'll do my review in IMI11 in just a bit. We love it. We too watched some of the skating last night and saw some falls and mistakes. I honestly cannot imagine getting my body into those positions anymore. That spider cake is very cool. I've never seen anything like that before. I wondered why they named it that and found this:

Such is the case with Spider Cake, which thankfully does not include any actual spiders. This arachnid-free cake is an easy, cornbread-like skillet cake that used to be prepared in an old fashioned short handled pan known as a "spider." Old cookbooks have this cake appearing as early as the 1800s.

Didn't know certain pans were called spiders either. You learn something every day! :) That's neat that you can freeze the condensed soups. Keni's has been on my list to make for YEARS!

Morning Joce. LOL. Yes, Jim and I do eat chicken primarily but sometimes if I've had it numerous days in a row enough is enough. :) Yum on porkchops for dinner. I'm hoping the freezing rain won't be too bad and that the roads are okay for tomorrow morning. If they're bad Jim said he'd drive me in to the Flower Shop. I have a good hubby. :)

Kimmer, did you end up going out for dinner last night or eating in?

Fed my birds and squirrels. Must get the kitchen cleaned up.

The recipe for the condensed soup looks so easy Karen. I really have no excuse not to make it and try it. Happy to hear Mel too is feeling better.

The NE Spider Cake turned out fabulous Joce! Nothing at all like a cake. It's like a combination of custard and cornbread. So good! Next time though I will measure light on the sugar. I'm just more sensitive to sweet and always measure light anyhow.
I know what you mean about AR. I can't use the site anymore and only go there to retrieve a recipe I have saved and used. I print it so I don't have to again go back. When the site "blew up" and Patrick invited us all over was when I joined GR. Before that I didn't know about it.

I like the bread too Janet. I think mostly because it's fresh homemade and you just can't beat homemade.
You mean you can't lift your leg up and over your head? LOL!
Very cool history on the "Spider Cake". I didn't know that and was wondering why such the odd name too.

Made some applesauce. I had apples needing to be used so applesauce it was. In a bit I'll make the condensed soup. Still trying to figure out how much to make for the recipe I intend to use it for. The recipe calls for 3 cans and 6 chicken breasts but I'm cutting the recipe in half for the two of us. Time to put on my thinking cap and get to it.

Nope, I can't lift my leg up and over my head and I certainly can't hold on to my skate above my head behind my back!!! LOLOLOL. Good luck with your condensed soup Linda. What is the recipe you're going to use it in? Let us know how it goes.

Jim says he'd like Roast beef for dinner this evening. I usually resort to a pkg. of demi-glace for the gravy but don't have any in the pantry so I'm going to have to cross my fingers and hope that I can make home made.

OMG!! Made the condensed soup recipe and it is FANTASTIC!!! I made basic cream of chicken and it's going to be wonderful to use in the crock pot recipe I picked out and will make that in a day or two once my chicken breast thaws out.

Just made the base of the jello shots and now it has to cool for 2 hours. The recipe I was going to use didn't look right. For eg. it listed 2 - 3 oz. pkgs. of jello but further down in the recipe she just says to add 1 pkg. of jello, and the quantities of the other liquid weren't right either. I googled other jello shot recipes and did it their way. The last thing I want to do is waste a little bottle of the Fireball whiskey! :) So I think I'm on track. Excited to decorate them.

Good afternoon and hello to all. Sounds like Benjamin's holiday is off to a great start Janet. Good you stayed put Karen. Can't even imagine driving on icy roads again! I've been wanting to try that recipe for condensed soups. I use them quite a bit in my cooking and the sodium is outrageous. Might just give it a try.

We did end up going out for a bite last night. I was totally prepared to stay in but hubs wanted to get out of the house for a while. He has been literally a couch potato since yesterday. Which is good. Kaiden ate every bite of his chicken fingers and fries. I was pleased about that. Hubs had tilapia and rice. I was hungry for breakfast so I ordered a very cheesy omelet with hash browns. Really hit the spot. Almost ordered a pancake after the recent talk about pancakes, lol. But so glad I chose the omelet.

Having soup and a salad for dinner tonight. Going to concoct something soupy. Have some Italian sausage that needs to be used. Along with some potatoes, carrots and celery that are begging to be used up. Will just chicken broth it with some spices and maybe add a bit of cream or milk to make it a bit creamy. Oh, and of course will throw in some cheddar cheese. I do love my cheese, lol! So I guess basically, a potato soup with sausage. Will see how it turns out. Might spice it up a bit with some red pepper flakes and some cayenne pepper. Hubs says his stomach is fine now and to bring it on, lol!

    Hope all enjoy their day!

Yum on your Cheesey omelette with hash browns Kimmer. I'd have that too. Yum on soup and salad too. I was close to making a batch of Celery soup today but it didn't happen.

Jim and I went out for a hot tub this afternoon but then the freezing rain started and we were literally getting pelted in the head with ice pellets. So we came in. In front of the fire now. Will put the roast in the oven shortly but it's still partially frozen!!!

Yipes on the ice pellets Janet! Ouch! Can't even imagine as I sit here on the porch at 75F and going in to put on a wrap, lol! But I get cold very easily. Thus I live in Florda!
Soup turned out remarkable! Hubs liked it so well and ate 3 bowls! Most he has eaten since his surgery! Very pleased and happy right now. Chloe is carefully watching my every move on the computer. Know she will pounce on my hands at any given moment! LOL, she is such a delight!

    Sleep Sweet All....................as always...................
