Soapy Saturday.....

Good Morning Everybody! We have sunshine! Whoop! Should be a most lovely autumn day!

I've been meaning to show you this soap Linda ever since I was in Rainy River and today I'm finally getting around to it. I bought three bars at the Rainy River Farmer's Market. The woman who makes the soap has the very best vegetable booth at the Market. I saw the soap on her table and she told me that bear fat has been used for centuries by Indigenous peoples as it contains all manner of healing properties and the bear fat especially can be made in to a salve that is really good for people with dry skin or excema. My cousin has troubles with that so I gave her a bar (Lavender scented) and I also gave one to our house sitter. I kept one. The scent is Orange and Cloves which is very nice. Haven't used it yet. Thought the whole concept was very unique and cool though.

Not sure of our plans yet for the day. Jim has already done a load of laundry so he can get the sheets hung up on the line so they dry by the end of the day. I'm going to brine a chicken for tomorrow's dinner but not sure what I'll do for tonight's.

We're going to go to the Carp Farmer's Market after breakfast. They finish at the end of October.

What's on everyone's agenda for this Saturday?

    Good Morning Everyone.

It's a rainy day here for a change thanks to tropical storm Nestor. Rain started around 3:00 a.m. (it woke me up) and it's been raining off and on since. It's not raining at the moment but it's dark and dreary and expected to be like this all day, maybe into tomorrow.
We have a female raccoon with two young ones who visits and she did early evening yesterday. I'm not sure if it's Adora or not. She knows me so it might be. The babies are soooo cute!
I had some of the soup I made last night for dinner and it's good, I'm just not in the mood for it and hate when I make something and then don't want it. I'll get most of it in the freezer today. Not sure what I'll be making for dinner tonight.
The lady from the rabbit rescue got the box of bunny biscuits yesterday and called me thrilled with how well they turned out and that everything is done (packaging, sign table) which made me feel good and validated all the work. She thinks they will go over well and sell out at the event. I sent a sample bag too so she can put out samples because people will bring their bunnies and she took a few out and gave them to some of her buns to try and they devoured them. She cares for 11 bunnies, most of which have disabilities or something making them harder to care for and adopt out. She is really good people and incredibly dedicated and honest so it's a pleasure to do what I can to help.

I love the soap Janet! soap was originally made with rendered animal fats and lye was made from wood ash. The woman who inspired me to venture soap making lives on a cattle ranch and she rendered the fat from the beef they ate and made her soap from it. Me, the suburban soap maker, uses vegetable oils. I'm sure when you use the soap you will love it. What are you waiting for??? (LOL!) Enjoy the farmers market. Hope you find some nice goodies.

On our local buy sell trade, Janet I have seen Bear Salve, Soap, and Bear fat for sale but I didn't know about the health benefits. Interesting and different for gifting giving for sure. Enjoy your time at the Carp Farmers Market. I love the smell of sheets just off the line. The smell is so refreshing and clean smelling. My Grandmother used to iron sheets just off the line and it was another marvelous smell.
I just knew your bunny biscuits would be a hit, Linda. I bet they will sell like hotcakes. +

We went out for dinner last night to Maximillian's. Janet knows it. Den had Weiner Schnitzel and I had the same but with mushroom gravy. I have a physio appointment this afternoon and after that, I will pick up a few things at the grocery store. Not much else happening here.

    Wishing everyone a great day.

Too cute about the raccoon and it's babies Linda! So glad the lady loved the biscuits you made, and that the bunnies did too!

We are on our way the Renaissance Festival right now. It's about 1.5 hours away so we have a good ways to go. Should be a blast!! We haven't been in years and Bri brought it up that she wanted to go a few weeks ago, so I bought the tickets.

We met with the cabinet guy yesterday and designed out how we want them in the kitchen and bathroom. So dang excited for my new kitchen!! I will start posting more pics. on FB when more interesting things start happening lol. Bathroom, kitchen and laundry room pipes and electric is going in right now.

    Wishing everyone a great Saturday!!

Just put a Pork tenderloin in the oven. I bought it on the way home from Rainy River at 'Pino's' in Sault St. Marie. It's stuffed with their famous sausage which is kind of cool. I prepped it with my
Dijon Pork Tenderloin With Rosemary And Thyme
recipe and then made a batch of
    Baked Rice
on the side and steamed spinach.

It was an absolutely gorgeous fall day today. Just beautiful. I could not live in a place that didn't have 'Fall'. It's my very, very favourite season.

Did you end up getting rain all day Linda? I knew your bunny biscuit parcel would be met with 'Wow's'!!!! That's so awesome! Cute that she gave some of her bunnies a taste test too. :) I thought the Orange Clove bear fat soap would be most appreciated in the winter time as it's a bit of a Christmassy scent so I've put it in my bathroom cabinet 'til then. I have a little stock of different scented soaps that I choose from and keep stocked. :) Right now I'm using one called 'Fickle Fennel'. :)

My Mom used to iron sheets off the line too Joce so I know that smell. :) Maximillian's is a lovely spot. Yum on the weiner schnitzel. I would have ordered gravy for mine too. :) Hope your physio appointment went well.

Very fun on the Renaissance Festival Michelle! Hope you had a great day. Designing your dream kitchen is one of the funnest things ever I think! :) When you get some time one day do indulge us and tell us some of the details you've planned.

We had a lovely time at the Market. I bought a beautiful head of red lettuce. I don't even need lettuce but it was so pretty I couldn't resist. Also bought a pkg. of cocktail sausage rolls and an Eccles cake from the English Pie Lady. We had a little walk around Carp. Their grocery store moved to a new building (adorable as all get out!) so I wanted to go check it out. Then we drove in to Kanata and I popped in to Sobey's to get some pickling salt to brine my chicken for tomorrow night. Picked up a Rotisserie chicken for lunch.

Jim started a new project at the back basement walkout. He is taking out about 21 rows of interlock and re-levelling them so the water doesn't pool near the door in the spring during melt down. I cleaned the house, swept, cleaned mirrors and bathrooms, etc. after our company. I dug up my rosemary plant and brought it indoors for the winter time. One of the pumpkins I'd brought inside for decoration rotted so I chopped it up with the axe out on the front lawn for the deer.

Jim sold another bag of apples today so he's up to $60 in earnings which is pretty fun.

The fire is lit and the Sens Hockey Game just came on. Hope everyone had a lovely day.
