Soapy Sunday

    Good Morning everyone.

One batch of soap done. Cut and drying and this is pretty much what it'll look like. I don't think the tan areas will darken anymore.
I have another loaf ready to unmold today and have enough oil for one more loaf that I will make either today or tomorrow.
I did change my master recipe up a little. Am using more Olive oil because it's a liquid oil and hoping that it won't set up as quickly so I have a little more time (maybe another couple minutes) to mix up batter with color (mica) before it turns to pudding.

Beautiful day here this morning and it'll warm up later. We have a black racer snake that has made his home here. I always see him out in the front garden bed or the front side garden bed. Sometimes I even catch him laying on the driveway pavers. He's about 3 or so feet. There was another one that was bigger hanging around but I haven't seen him in several weeks. I don't mind them because they are good snakes but I do get startled when I startle them. Sometimes when I walk out the front to get the mail, "BAM", there he is, so now I make some noise first so he has time to hide.

Will probably go to the gym this afternoon and I'm not sure about dinner just yet. Yesterday I grilled steaks for us (DH had a filet and I had a rib eye), baked a sweet potato, and steamed asparagus.

What's everyone else doing this Sunday morning?

The soap is beautiful Linda! The swirls are great. So is it deeper colours that you`re after? Such a science to it! Cool on the Black Racer snake. I think it`s our natural instinct to recoil (ar-ar-ar) when we see a snake. It is startling. Your dinner last night sounded yummy.

Another frigid morning here, and another fire going in the fireplace to keep us warm while we enjoy our coffee.

I`m going to make a batch of
    Beef Barley Soup
this morning and we`ll have that for lunch. I`m going to make
    Ham N Swiss Loaf
    for dinner.

I think we`re just going to hang at the house today.

The colors are fine. It's creating a batter that allows me enough time to mix up some batter with color and be able to then swirl it. If it sets up to quick (it sets like thick pudding) it's hard to work with. Sometimes a fragrance will naturally darken the batter to a tan or deeper brown, usually a fragrance that has vanilla in it, knowing that then tells me the final color you'll see once the soap is exposed to air.

I just don't see the snake, I've almost stepped on him 2x! rounding the corner of the walk. DH had the garage door open yesterday because he was cleaning up some stuff outside and I told him … "keep the garage door shut at all times" … last thing we need for him to wander in the garage and we don't know it.

Yum on Beef Barley soup Janet! I've been on a soup "kick" myself. I could eat soup everyday. I'm already looking to see what I'll make next.

I`m ALWAYS telling Jim to keep the garage door shut but he doesn`t always listen. We`ve had rabbits, squirrels, mice, birds and a groundhog get trapped in there!!!!

Oh-My-Goodness. Critters are not happy when they get trapped in a garage. And too they can make a mess of things because they are panicked. We are told here to keep our garages closed but people don't listen. Aside from the frogs and little lizards that get in mostly, it's the snakes (especially the water moccasins), palm rats, and gators that I don't want to see and yes there has been the occasional small gator that goes in a garage because of all the nearby ponds.

I’ve been craving beef barley soup. I can’t make it though. It’s one of franks favorites but it kills his stomach. I’ve tried everything less barley. Limiting him to one bowl (lol the first time I made it I think he had three huge bowls) but still makes him very sick. And his stomach is in worse shape since his bout with c.diff. So I don’t dare.
Going to lunch with my friend but I don’t feel like doing anything. I laid in my bed til 11 am listening to my book. I’m listening to a series by Louise Penney from library but when I read the first book I didn’t realize it was a series and it was now I know book 3. Then I must have had it wanted to check out the library notified me and I read book #1 but now I can’t seem to be able to check them out in order and I’m currently listening to #9 lol

I would most certainly freak out if I had a rat or a gator in my garage. LOLOLOL. I`m sure I told you that the time the groundhog got stuck in there he chewed his way out of the wooden siding leaving a sizeable hole in the outside wall. Shaking head. Luckily we had extra pieces of siding stored and were able to repair it AND put in a dryer vent door to act as a `wild animal trap door` in the event it happens again. :)

A shame Frank can`t eat Beef Barley soup anymore Laurie! :( Enjoy lunch out with your friend. I just finished reading `Nature of the Beast` which is #12 in the Inspector Gamache Louise Penny series. #9 is `A Beautiful Mystery` and we read that a year or two ago for our Library book chat as well. It was my favourite of the two. I`m not a big mystery novel fan but I like her writing. Louise Penny is Canadian and lives only 3 hours from us on Lac Brome in the small town of Knowlton. It`s supposed to be an extremely picturesque area and that`s where the fictional town of `Three Pines` is set as well. I`ve always meant to do a jaunt there and I will some day. I don`t think it`s a big deal reading/listening to the books out of order. They`re pretty much stand on their own.

That's a great idea Janet to stick a "critter" escape door on the garage. I can only imagine what the groundhog did, yikes!

Good afternoon and hello to all. Soap is beautiful Linda! And we had a nice warmer day today. Overcast here now. Possibly a bit of rain and then temps go down for the week. Audio books put me to sleep lol! I'm much better with a real book in my hands that I have to turn pages with but even that tends to put me to sleep!! Mainly because the only time I can really read is just before bedtime.

Been a mini "investment" cooking day for me today. Made up a batch of cream of mushroom soup to freeze for either lunches or using with a meat dish. Hubs and I both had a bowl for lunch though! Cooked some chicken breasts to use for.........something. Probably chicken salad. Wanted to do something else ahead but ran out of time and gumption, lol. Tonight I'm making salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and a salad.

Hope all enjoy the rest of their Sunday!

My recipe for salisbury steak is very simple. No condensed soup involved. But I do use Campbell's french onion soup. Thought I had it posted but guess not. Sooo behind on such stuff, lol!

    Hi.

Beef barley soup sounds so good, Janet.

Your soaps look awesome, Linda. Wow on sneaky snake. The Gators would bother me more than the snakes.

Kimmer, Salisbury steak and mashed potatoes sound really good also.

Stayed home from church as the yukky stage of chemo is here. The weather was nothing like what was predicted where we live. GS had massive Bose bleed and daughter had migraine so it was just Wayne. Have a fire going now and snuggled under a cozy blanket.
