Good Morning Everybody! It's a really pretty morning here in Ottawa. I just got back from dropping Jim off at the airport. Hardly any traffic so it was an easy drive. We were out of coffee at home so I popped into Starbuck's to grab a lb. and also treated myself to a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Verra nice way to start the morning! :) Didn't sleep well last night so am just turning down the dial to 'slow' for today. Would like to make a pot of soup but not sure what kind yet. I started two threads in "Heat in the Kitchen". One asking for your favourite tomato recipes. And the second mentioning that Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up in two weeks time and I could use some ideas for nummy food. If you can help me out I'd appreciate it! :) Dahlia...so nice to see you are back safe and sound. You will have had a lot of family time. Enjoy your yummy Challah French Toast this morning. Lovely idea for company! I'd forgotten that you had to teach a class yesterday Michelle. Hope it went really well and that you get today to relax a bit! How did Liv enjoy the Nemo movie Tina? Your neighbour sounds nuts. :) I'd never heard of a Slash Pine before. I googled it and learned that they live for 200 years and can grow up to 98 ft. tall! It sounds beautiful. I love Pine trees. Wow on Italians eating 60 lbs. of pasta a year. That is a lot of pasta! I agree with you on the prepared, processed, fatty foods. Wishing everyone a very relaxing simple Sunday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA!!! and many more to come:-) Enjoy your special day:) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twsHMd-xSTc&feature=related
Janet, Good luck to Jim traveling and hoping he can sleep soundly on the plane. I will check out “Heat in the Kitchen” in a bit and think about tomato recipes also.
Tina, That is a heck of a lot of pasta and your neighbour sounds just dreadful and crazy!
Dahlia, Welcome home:)
Lori, Where are you? You should be home from HH by now unless you decided to move there:)
Marie, So pleased you enjoyed your special day:)
Still on my first cup of coffee and my tummy is much better today thank heavens. Not quite awake yet and will check back in later. Laundry day today and we are having pot roast for dinner with all the fixings.
Just got back last night...and...yes, I want to move there! Already miss my early morning sunrise walks on the beach and the evening walks, too. And sitting outside with the ocean breeze blowing, listening to the music coming from The Tiki Hut...*sigh*...
Happy Birthday Laura!! Happy 75th Birthday to my Daddy!
HI to all my ODD friends!!
I have a mountain of laundry to tackle, and have to get back to the real world. UGH. I think this is the first vacation I've had where I just plain old didn't want to come home....just wanted to stay forever. : )
It will take me a while to catch up...not sure how much computer time I will get today, but, I will be back!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA! Wow! Lots of September Birthday's in ODD! What are your celebration plans for today? Wishing you a day of pleasantness and smiles. :) Joce, that's a cute Happy Birthday link. I was worried the dog was going to get his ears burned on the candles he was playing so hard! :) So glad to hear you are feeling better today! Double yum on the Pot Roast. A perfect Sunday dinner. Welcome Back Lori! So pleased to hear you had a great time! Did you see any crocodiles? Nice on the sunrise and sunset walks on the beach....and the Tiki Hut! :) Did you have any awesome meals you want to tantalize us with? :) Happy 75th to your Dad. Are you going over at some point this week for a birthday get-together? Any news on your Mom's tests?
Lori, Welcome home:) It sounds like you had a blast! A Very Happy Birthday to your Dad as well! I can't wait to hear all about your exciting trip. Good luck with the laundry and I won't inundate you with questions until you get your land legs back!
Tina, Sorry you didn't sleep well last night:( Just keep sending those resumes out and filling in applications something just has to come up! I keep thinking positive thoughts those vibes better work soon! Hugs:)))
Good morning! it sounds like everyone is getting back and getting busy. It is a crisp fall day here in Saskatchewan with a low of -4 last night. Yesterday was the last day of frost warnings for the year, now it is just assmued it will freeze every night. The drive to Weyburn and back was gorgeous with the fall colours - gold everywhere - and lots of harvest going on. It was sunny and bright but cool. Happy Birthday Laurie and Happy Belated Birthday Marie, and best wishes to others I have missed too. Today I want to make something with ham and butternut squash - two things that are waiting attention in the fridge. Probably a soup or chowder of some kind I think. Other than that it will be a catch up day around the house. Laura is going to make banana chocolate chip muffins for her wrestling team bake sale and Grandma is making some tarts for her to take as well. She is really taking a leadership role in the team this year which is nice to see. Have a great day! Michelle
Thank you all for the happy birthday wishes. Day is off to a good start. Mr. Fixed me Sunday breakfast. Found a happy birthday balloon at my desk with a perfect desk sized pot of Flowers and a card so mushy it made me cry. A little bit ago a delivery of Flores arrived from my brother and his wife. This afternoon the family is throwing me a Niger and beer party at Kevin and Cher place on the lake. Nothing more could happier.
Laura, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I didn't know your BD was a day after mine:) Have a wonderful fun filled day!
Lori, welcome back! A very Happy Birthday to your Dad:)
Janet, soup sounds wonderful:) I am looking forward to the cooler weather, soups, casseroles, comfort food:)
Joce, glad you are felling better, love Laura's BD cake!!
Tina, I hope all of your hard work pays off and you find the perfect place to work:)
Hi Michelle, the temp was -4 degrees??? WOW!!!
Grilled chicken for dinner, Rick will probably put a rub on it, and maybe gratin potatoes..I have 2 10 lb bag of potatoes I need to use, they were on sale for 97 cents a bag!!!! HELP with any good potato recipes you might have!!
I better get a shower, rick wants to take me out to breakfast:)
Good Morning Tina! I just went back to bed an hour ago, had a good nap and here I am again. I feel much, much better and totally recommend it. :) Wow at -4C Michelle. Sounds like a pretty drive there and back from Weyburn. You may already have a recipe in mind for that Butternut Squash but here are my two favourite. Butternut Squash Soup With Caramelized Apples and Butternut Squash Bake And if I had some ham on hand I'd make Ham n' Scalloped Potatoes with cheese. :) That's so nice Laura is making muffins for her Wrestling Team's fundraiser. I'll buy one as well as one of Grandma's tarts. :) Wow...indeed you are having a very nice birthday Laura. Excellente! :) You deserve it. I don't know what "Flores" or "Niger" is but I'm sure it's fun. :) LOL! I LOVE the look of that Dubliner Tart recipe. Thank you so much for pointing it out. And with Canadian bacon no less. :) Tee Hee! Yum on the grilled chicken Marie. That sounds wonderful. That's a fantastic price on potatoes as well! Here's a few potato recipes for you. Enjoy your breakfast out! Shake N Bake Potato Balls Twice Baked Spinach Potatoes Onion Soup With Pesto
Hi to everyone!! I will fill you in on the highlights soon. Trying to download this multitude of pix and sort thru them. No way we could post them all. lol
Mom felt better after she got her results. She does have tumors in the liver and lung. They are treating with chemo pills, for who knows how long...as long as necessary. Apparently this will be much more aggressive chemo than the IV chemo she had before...it's an aggressive cancer and he will fight it aggressively.
Marie, right off the bat I think of Loaded Baked Potato Soup for potatoes. I will have to think of some more. That's a great deal. Oh yuck...I gotta go to the store, too.
Marie, I was on Pinterest and came across this recipe that made me think of you because whenever I hear the word "Kale" I think of you. :) http://www.spicytasty.com/appetizers-starters/kale-and-cheese-in-puff-pastry/#.UF80PKRCX-Q Pleased to hear your Mom is feeling a little better Lori and that they are embarking on the battle. Sending loads of prayers. Hugs. LOVE the sound of that soup. The kitchen is calling my name. And I already have your Butternut Tomatillo Bisque recipe bookmarked Laura. (I just love that word by the way, Bisque, Bisque......:)) Wish we didn't have such a hard time finding Tomatillos here. Have that Potato Casserole bookmarked too. :)
Erase that. I went out and looked around and apparently FREEZING COOKED POTATOES = BAD . http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/428318 However, these folks think that if you are going to do it, this is what you do to make it a more successful process. I was really impressed by how precise the article is able to quickly describe the how and why of each preparation. I noticed though that none of them hand anything stored over 30 days. So my guess of 3 months is apparently BAD. It made me wonder what the shelf life is of all the pre-packaged stuff in the grocery freezer section. Made me shudder a little. http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf000995.tip.html

Yum on the squash recipes - I think I have enough to try all three so we will have a squash week here. Just to clarify, -4 is centigrade so for fahrenheit that would be about 26 or 27 degrees. Somehow it doesn't sound as bad in that system lol even though I find it hard to understand some of the other numbers. Apparently Laura is going to do her baking at her friend's house. She is helping Megan bake cinnamon twists for the bake sale and then they will do the muffins there too. Kinda cool that she is the "cook" among her friends.
Happy Birthday!!!! open house was a success, lots of people came through. One agent even called and said she was coming back to view the property and then her people were going to put an offer in. fingers crossed it sells quick for some quick cash! Rachel ran a 5k today for Wilmington Chamber of commerce and her field hockey team. we had chicken meatloaf and green beans for dinner but Racchel went to a team dinner with the field hockey team. leaving for Chicago on thursday so putting a few hours in at Macy;s tomorow after WW
Yeah, Laurie on the good open house. How nice. I've entered for two House Parties that I hope to get. They seem to do a lot more before the Holidays....hope to host one soon. Nice to see all the good activities that the kids are involved in....makes me wish for those days again for Liv. She went into work today and got REAMED a new one by the acting manager...didn't like her clothes (they don't fit well, she has gained some weight), didn't like her lack of make up and proceeded to rip her a new one. Liv works in the kitchen and expedites food to the servers and tables. She works hard and all her make up sweats off in a 12 hour shift. She wanted to walk off the job. "Liv, we can't have all of us unemployed." Hang in there kid.
NN has torn down part of the fence between our yards and we have to leash and corral the dogs for now. I've got Fred calling the codes enforcement board tomorrow.
There is a huge 50 vendor job fair at the Coliseum downtown St. Pete between 10 and 3 tomorrow. How many of our staff do you suppose will call out of work and just not show up? I'm thinking 30%. We were instructed to do our job as well as possible given the circumstances....,my supervisor is online applying for jobs, yawning, eating chips and ignoring her daily reports. None of the gold team has had their stats recorded for a week, nor a weekly report as "usual".
I'm morphing our dinner tonight to a sausage pumpkin sauce over whole wheat pasta with lots of garlic. Shrimp are cooked and are chilled for lunches. Tilapia was cooked and flaked into a cooked ceviche salsa. I am going to keep that for lunches over a bed of shredded lettuce. Cucumbers are in a yogurt dill sauce. Cherry tomatoes have been oven roasted with garlic.
Frank and I are going to do another wine tasting party. We just have to find a good date. We have had two already in the past. One was hosted by the Traveling Vineyard the consultant comes in with different wines and talks about pairings and basically gives a "lesson" on wines and then they are available to purchase. Kind of like a tupperware party LOL she gives a suggestion list of types of food to go with the wines and she was suprised at my dishes she said most people serve crackers and chips and store bought stuff. the other type we did (which I think thats what we are going to do again) is have everyone bring a bottle of wine under $20 and then you got tickets , one of which was black. You put your tickets in your top choice's cup and the black one in the choice you thought was gross. little prizes for top two and a boobie prize for the worst (which was me last time) I still have the wooden chicken.
