Soy Milk Magnate Monday!

Good Morning Everybody! It's late Monday afternoon here in Taipei but the majority of you will be fast asleep still on your pillow. :)
Benjamin and his friend Jon took us to a Thai Food/Hookah Bar last night for dinner. I had Red Curry Chicken. Meh. :) We did do Hookah as well. Apple flavoured. It was fun to try but I don't need to do it again. :)
Jim had Squid and Quails eggs from the Hotel Breakfast bar this morning then we met up with Benj at his fave brekkie spot and had Danbing as well. He tried this cool noodle dish with a fried egg on top. The broth was very black peppery and very yummy. Pic below. We also had Hot Milk Tea. It's quite sweet but very good. The coolest thing about it really is that once they prepare it for you in your takeout cup then they put a plastic lid over top that totally seals it up. You can literally turn the cup upside down and nary a spill. Kind of fun. You poke a straw in the middle once you're ready to drink it.
Thread title this morning is a restaurant we went to for breakfast the other morning. The World Soy Milk Magnate. I had soup dumplings there which were to die for.

After breakfast Benjamin brought us for a hike up Elephant mountain for a commanding view of the city and the Taipei 101 building. (pic in my avatar) 1000 steep steps going up. Glad it was only 22C/71F here today. :)
Joey, that was such a sweet story about Madeline asking Santa Claus for a sewing machine so she could learn from Grandmama. Oh my goodness. :)
How's your sunburn today Michelle? I'm going to go home with a very nice tan which is fun. :) Umbrellas here are used virtually every day. Obviously on rainy days and then very, very much so on sunny days as well. Did you make that Posole recipe? It really does sound good but I'll admit that hominy scares me almost as much as stinky tofu. :)
Goodness on your parents landing in hospital after coming to visit you Shona. That'd be bad! Very sad they aren't up to going to Hawaii for your brother's wedding either. A shame. How beautiful that will be. I've never been there but would love to! My Dad had a canvas tent that I used to pitch in our yard in the summer time and sleep over in. It had a definite smell to it. Especially when the sun was beating down on the canvas. :) No floor in it either. Holy smokes on your accident in the Chevy Nova. That's flipping scary! Sending healing vibes to Sophia. The kid deserves a major break for sure!
ROFL @ "Kale sure is boingy" Marie. Gave me a good laugh. The other day Benjamin brought us to a Creative Park (sort of like a Farmer's market with craft and art booths) and there were about 6 old VW vans at the entrance that had been turned into Food trucks. One was a Grilled cheese truck in fact. :) That Outback Chicken recipe looks super yummy. The honey scares me a little bit, but....if you tried it do let us know as perhaps I'll try it too.
Fun you went for a pedicure with Rachel Laurie! Saw the pics of your Mom's birthday celebration on your FB page. She looks so great!
Tina....hope work is going well. Almost your day off!
A big wave to everyone else. Have a most awesome day!

Hi Janet! Lol on the hookah! Well at least you tried it right? :)
That fried egg dish that Jim had this morning sounds right up my alley! Thanks for the visual on the upside down Hot milk tea LOL! My sunburn feels MUCH better today! I have a HORRIBLE tan line though...I was wearing a fitted shirt with sleeves with the neck cut sorta low, so anyway, not tank tops for a little while, I'll look silly! Doesn't matter much anyway, since we are getting ANOTHER cold front this afternoon!!!!! I have never heard of a cold front in TX in mid April! My garden hates it right now, and after all these problems with the zucchini's I'm probably going to have to replant them again after all this is over. As well as my green beans and my cucumbers. Grrrr! Frusterating!
Tonight will be beef roast in the slow cooker with baby carrots and mashed potatoes. Michael will be happy :) Have a good one everybody!

    Hi all:)

Janet, love your pictures! I was thinking that egg & noodle dish sounded like something Michelle would love! Me too for that matter..looks delish:) Thanks for showing us the cool cup that doesn't leak! Even when turned upside down! Now, why don't we have cups like that here??? I thought you'd like the boingy kale line:-D I have tried Outback Steakhouse Alice Springs Chicken and it's really good..in fact, we had deli chicken last night because Rick was craving it..ok by me, I didn't have to cook:-) Sooo, Alice Springs Chicken on the menu for tonight:-)
Very cool on the VW van food trucks!

Michelle, LOL on the horrible tan line..so glad your sunburn is better today..it can be so painful..that coming from experience. When I was young and cared about having a tan..my best GF and I used baby oil for tanning..talk about cooking yourself..young & dumb for sure...but, I always did have the best tan..LOL Now I worry about getting skin cancer..ahhh, growing old isn't for sissies...Hope your garden makes it thru the cooler weather your getting...which reminds me, we need to get some tomatoes planted!

    Happy Monday Everyone:-)

Hot Milk tea, I've had that in Vancouver, I think it's made with sweetened condensed milk, hence the sweetness :) WOW that noodle dish looks good! I've never been to a Hookah lounge, they have one in town here. Sounds interesting! At least you can say you tried it now, how cool is that! Lol, yep I can still remember the smell the of Canvas Tent! Our old tent trailer had canvas sides too, we tried everything to get the smell out and we never did! Thanks for the healing vibes. Sophia had such a high fever at 2:30am I had to wake her to give her some Motrin. I'm glad I got her to the walk-in clinic yesterday, she'd be too sick to go today. At least there is only 3 days of school this week, they have Thurs. and Fri. off for Easter break as well as Easter Monday. That hike sounds great, and the view is awesome! What a great picture!
Lol at your tan line Michelle, that's a typical farmers tan here, teehee ;) Sorry about the weather! Can you tent some of the veggies? My MIL had these plastic cloches that she'd use for her veggies when there was a storm, to cover them up. Maybe even a tarp to keep the soil warm? I'd hate to see you lose some of your crop! Yum on your beef roast, my dinner is similar except stewing meat cooked with potatoes and carrots ;)
Hi Marie! lol, yep I remember the days of baby oil, and putting lemon juice in my hair to lighten it in the sun! I learned early that light skin and freckles means that you go from white to red and rarely tans! lol ;) The Alice Spring chicken reminds me of Pioneer Woman's chicken ranch sandwiches, it's a honey mustard marinade. Then you grill it and serve it with bacon and cheese, very similar and very delicious!
I'm finally putting the beef stew in the crock pot, I never got around to it the other day so I'd better cook up the beef now!
    Have a great day everyone!

I just read your question about the Posole Janet, yes I did make it! Hominy is pretty good actually lol, no reason to be scared of it! Here is a little more on it http://culinaryarts.about.com/od/glossary/g/Hominy.htm
It taste nothing like corn so the first taste may be a bit shocking :)
Hehe, my mom did the same thing Marie, I remember her rubbing baby oil on herself then laying out in the 110 degree heat in the backyard while us kids played in the pool. Now she just fry's herself at the tanning bed. I try and tell her she's WAY too dark, but she doesn't listen...
It's a miracle our tomato plants are braving it wonderfully through this weird weather...so at least I don't have to worry about those :)

Shona, wishing Sophia a very speedy recovery....poor dear.
My gf used lemon juice to lighten her hair..I didn't cause I had dark brown/black hair..it probably would have turned orange..lol I'll have to check out that recipe of PW's..I really like her:-)

    Here's the link Marie:
    http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/01/ranch-style-chicken/
On her TV show she put it on soft buns, so that's how we do it. I buy the whole chicken breasts and slice it in half, pound it out thin to make cutlets. I take off all the fillets and freeze those until I get a big batch of them to make chicken fingers! Some chicken breasts already have the fillets removed though.
I started cheated and doing the same style chicken but instead of the honey-mustard I've been using Cajun seasoning! ;) I like it both ways though!

Janet, LOL I had to look up Hookah and I really had to laugh b/c I thought it was a food:) I should have known better b/c I am from the Flower Child 60's:) What an awesome site The World Soy Milk Magnate have. I liked the look of the beef filled pancake and all the other sweet goodies look great as well. I would love to see that Creative Park too it sounds just amazing! Why can't we get those leak proof cups here! What a wonderful adventure you and Jim are having!

Shona, Aww sorry to hear poor wee Sophia is having trouble with her tonsils again:( Maybe you should take the doctor's offer about getting her into see and ENT. I hope the antibiotics have kicked in and that she feels better today. You were very lucky to have survived such a scarey accident! WOW! I like that Pioneer Woman's Ranch Style Chicken as well. I bookmarked it thanks for the link:)

Michelle, I am glad your sunburn is not as bad today. I have to be careful when being out in the sun b/c of my blood pressure medication as well. Now I burn before I tan and I used to always be a sun worshiper but not now! LOL your tan lines sounds like what I call “A Workie Tan” here:) You dinner tonight is right up my alley and one of our favourites. YUM! Oh my on your Mom using tanning beds they are very dangerous! HOLY!

Tina, Your camping memories are priceless and a joy to read about.

Joey, Madeline is lucky to have a Grandma like you to teach her cooking and sewing and that pic is adorable:)

Marie, LOL on the kale being boingy:) Outback Steakhouse Alice Springs Chicken looks awesome to me! LOL I remember using baby oil and iodine for tanning and I always looked almost charbroiled:) I also would put diluted peroxide on my hair before going out in the sun and I always had blonder streaks here and there in my hair. I was a Lifeguard when I was in my teens and I always had a great tan sitting on top of the Lifeguard stand all day! LOL Fried:)

Laurie, I hope your Mom enjoyed her belated BD dinner:)

My china cabinet eventually arrived safe and sound yesterday! It was delayed b/c they could not get into the big condo building to pick it up b/c they have such a high security. The fellow that owns the moving company called and kept us informed almost hourly. The poor fellow was going to drive the four hours here and back to Toronto in the middle of the night! I asked him if he would prefer to deliver it yesterday instead of Saturday and you could almost here a sigh of relief on the end of the phone. I must say I am delighted! The china cabinet is stunning and in pristine condition. LOL Now I am in the process of sorting three other china cabinet out! The living room, dining room and anything that has space on it now has china all over it! I am selling one of the cabinets and the small sideboards etc. are being relocated in the house. What a mess! What a big job I have in front of me! All the china dishes etc. all have to be washed by hand without rubber gloves on. Many things are much to delicate to take a chance being clumsy with gloves on. I will pick away at things, but I know it is going to take quite a few full days before I get things all sorted away. LOL Someday I will see the top of those tables again.
We are having pork chops with mashed potatoes, carrots and applesauce on the side. I better get back to the dining room to see what sort of dent I can put in it today. If you don't see me on I will be lurking when I can as I hope to maybe get all this done before this Easter weekend.

Hoping everyone has a good day!

Hi Shona! Glad Sophia was able to go back to school today. Your kiddos got lucky, mine only get Friday off for Easter weekend and that's it! We usually only cover the garden when it freezes. It's really not getting that cold about in the high 50's at night, but obviously these summer veggies like HOT! Since it's supposed to be getting even colder tonight, I may see if my husband wants to cover some, but I think the one's that our no making it are pretty long gone...they look sad :( I have eyeballed that PW chicken sandwich a couple times...I need to make it soon...it looks SOOO good!!
Hi Joce...I know, my whole family has told my mom to stop tanning...she takes it way to far...she almost looks like a different race! Glad you got your China cabinet in good condition!! What a sweet delivery guy :) Good luck on all your cleaning and organizing China...FUN!

Just woke up....Tuesday here! :) So glad to hear your sunburn is feeling better Michelle. I emailed myself the Posole recipe so I remember to short list it. I'm sure I even bought a can of hominy when I was in the States so it should be in my pantry. Oh oh on the veggies needing to be replanted. My BIL is driving down this coming weekend I think to pick up my FIL who winters in Corpus Christi. Your beef roast sounds super yummy.
Also emailed myself the Alice Springs chicken recipe Marie. So envy you about to plant tomatoes. :)
Sorry to hear Sophia had a rough night last night Shona. That is good that the school week is shortened this week. Do you do the Easter Bunny thing with the kids? (Michelle...what about you too)
Cool on being a lifeguard Joce! :) So pleased your china cabinet arrived safe and sound and the job of sorting out all three cabinets actually sounds kind of fun. :) I know it's a lot of work but it'll look so nice once you're all set up.
Is everyone planning a big Easter dinner this coming weekend?
Have a great evening everyone! Gonna try call my Mom this morning on Google Chat. She'll be pretty tickled if I get through. :)
Benjamin has no classes today so he's bringing us on a day trip. Not sure where yet. The place names tend to go right over my head. :)

Good morning Janet! Luckily I bought all the stuff for the kids Easter baskets last week as I probably would not have time to do it with Sophia sick. I have those plastic eggs that I put little chocolates and jelly beans in and hide those. I'm so use to having a big Sunday dinner for family at Easter time, this year we'll just have a small ham, cheesy scalloped potatoes and a veggie side dish, carrot cake for dessert. :) Have fun on your day trip! Hopefully you get through to your mom! :)
Hi Joey Joan! Rest up, you deserve it! :)
Hey Michelle, Sophia's not at school today :( still sick, I meant that the week is short so she'll only miss 3 days of school instead 5! Lol at your Mom, all I can picture is that "Tanning Mom" Patricia Krentcil!! Lol, so sorry to your mom! ;)
Hi Joce, thanks for the reminder, I have to phone the ENT! Wow, you have a big job ahead of you reorganizing and cleaning the china cabinets! Don't over do it :)
Oh boy Marie, now I can't get Manic Monday out of my head!! ...."I wish it were Sunday, whoa whoa, cause that's my fun day, whoa whoa"......:)

I don't know why I chuckled at the FIL who winters in Corpus Christi! It's funny when people leave their home for a season to be more comfortable...
For Easter we paint eggs the night before and leave them out for the Easter bunny to hide in the back yard. He also hides plastic one's with candy and quarters in them and leaves Easter baskets with little knick knacks in the living room. I have not planned an Easter dinner, nor even thought one second about it lol! My husband is off for the first time in 6 yrs for this holiday...so I really should plan something nice :) I like Shona's idea of a carrot cake..I may steal it!!
Ohh okay I misunderstood you on Sophia not going to school this week. If they are anything like my daughters school right now..they just seem to be goofing off everyday anyway. No homework at all this week either. YAY!
