Still Weather Watching Saturday

  • MissouriFarmWife 6 years ago
No bad weather has arrived yet. No news on GS. I will text daughter later.

Mel is weak, barely drinks water and can not jump up. Glaze ice is expected but we think we can make the trip to the vet. He is 15 or thereabouts. Hoping to get in early before severe weather.

What a dreary morning! Fritz is behaving, curled in his bed and enjoying the heater. Mel is beside me, AC is outside looking in. Waiting for weather forecast so I can de ide whether to panic about the drive or relax and enjoy the scenery. It is in he 20's F with wind chill of 9.

Good Morning Karen! Do give us an update on your GS when you hear from your daughter. I'm so sorry to hear about Mel. I wonder what's going on? 15 is getting up there but it's not old for a cat. Drive safe!!!!! Your temps are pretty close to us. We're -10C/14F here at the moment. We got another inch or two of snow overnight.

Jim and I watched the Olympic opening ceremonies last night. SOOOOO amusing to see some of the countries only having like three athletes competing. Of course a lot of those countries are hot weather countries so they are not big into winter sports. And there were SO many countries that I had never ever heard of before!!!! Where the heck are these countries???? :) Funny.

We haven't decided what we are going to do today. I bought ingredients to make that
    English Muffin Bread
that Linda did recently. Only thing....I couldn't find Bread flour. Am I good to go with all purpose? I was surprised to not see bread flour but maybe I don't know what to look for. Is it in a bag like all the other flours? I did see Cake & Pastry flour. Funny I'm talking about this as Benjamin was telling me last week that he can't find all purpose flour there. He says all the flours are labelled with a specific purpose. LOLOL.

Not sure what I feel like doing for dinner either. Looking for inspiration in my second cup of coffee. :)

Had a message from Benjamin that he was just about to board his flight. He said he'd let us know when he landed. The flight is only 2 1/2 hours long.

I hope your GS is feeling better today, Karen. Sorry to hear about Mel:( I hope the weather holds out for your drive to the Vet's and back.

We watched the opening ceremonies last night as well, Janet. I must say they were the best opening ceremonies I have seen so far. The choreography was spot on. Lol we laughed about some of the countries having millions and millions of people and only 2 or three contestants as well. I see Jamacia in them again. I wonder if they are doing bobsledding again? Bread flour is also called hard flour and it contains more gluten. I would Google to find out if you can use it in an English Muffin recipe. Yes, it is normally labeled Bread Flour or Bread Machine Flour in the normal packages like AP flour.

Den has gone to pick up what groceries we need and then once he puts them away he will go out and pick up MacDonald's for us. Den will have his normal cheeseburgers and fries and I am not sure what I am having. Maybe crepes?

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Janet.
So, can you substitute bread flour for all-purpose flour? The answer is –
We answer with a confident “Yes” when callers ask if they can use bread flour in place of all-purpose (or vice versa) in their bread recipes – in a pinch.

For the very best loaf, we always advise bakers to use the type of flour called for in the recipe: bread, or all-purpose. After all, if a flour is specified, the recipe was developed to provide optimum results when you use the designated flour. These recipes carefully match the flour’s protein level to the amount of liquid called for, creating the ideal hydration – and a perfectly risen loaf.

But in a pinch, it’s totally OK to substitute. The consistency of the dough and the structure of the bread may vary, but you’ll still be rewarded with a wonderful homemade loaf regardless of whether you use bread flour or all-purpose flour.

So go forth, and bake! That old recipe of Grandma’s you’ve been too nervous to try because it calls for simply “flour” is waiting for you – give it a shot! Use bread flour if you want a tighter crumb and a loaf that holds its shape, or choose all-purpose if you’re looking for a slightly more open texture and a bit more tenderness.

Yum on McD's for brunch Joce and crepes sound delicious. Thanks for the flour info. I'm sure the loaf will be most delicious no matter.

    Good Morning!

What a long day it was yesterday. The one guy worked the kitchen and guest bath, and the other worked our master bath. The guy who worked the master bath didn't leave till about 4:15 and what ever he was working with stunk to high heaven. I don't know how anyone can work with chemicals and such for a living. Everything looks fantastic!! Brand new! and sometime in the future I would like to get the floors done but am in no hurry. They both were polite, professional, trustworthy ... class A acts all around.
There was no time to dilly-daddle with dinner so we went out and took LD with us. We went to our favorite seafood restaurant and the mall complex that the restaurant is in has "Yappy Hour" on Fridays 1x month. More people than usual bring their dogs and groups come in for show ... rescues groups, dog sitters, vendors, etc., anything to do with dogs/cats. It's cool. We sat outside to eat because we had LD with us and near where we were sitting we could see one of the rescue group/shelter vans pull up to unload. They bring some rescue dogs to promote for adoption and you would think a van pulled up with Rock Stars. People gathered around each side the van waiting for the dogs to come out and when they did you could hear everyone OOOing and AAAing. We would have walked around after dinner but LD just barks uncontrollably at all the other dogs.

Nice score on the big jar of "BBB" at Costco Janet! I'm going to have to look for it now. Can't wait to see the Bee House. The Peter Rabbit movie does look entertaining. The "CloudEm" looks so cool too! And yum on the coconut yogurt. You've been finding some really neat goodies.
I too watched some of the opening ceremony for the Olympics. Yes, amusing how some countries have 1 or a few people participating and others have well over 100. The light shows were incredible!!

Oh no Karen, so sorry to hear Mel is not feeling well. Hope you are able to get him into the vet before any bad weather comes. Hoping too to hear your GS is feeling better and too that your DD doesn't get sick also.

Interesting read about the flours Joce. On the FB site they talk in a language that seems foreign to me, I'm such a basic baker and some people are so much more advanced.

I found this site last night. You can search each country and see its athletes. Pick a country and then click search.

Hi Linda! So the grout in the floors needs replacing as well? How neat about the Rescue Dog Vans. Fun link on the Olympic athletes!

    Jim has requested
    Chicken Parmigiano
for dinner this evening, so I'm presently thawing out the chicken for that. We've decided just to hang out here at the house today.

Yesterday I also bought all the ingredients to make those Cinnamon Jello Shots for Valentine's Day. I may make them tomorrow and bring some in to the Flower Shop on Monday. Can't remember if I told you I'm working there Mon. and Tues. for my girlfriend, stripping rose thorns.

The grout on the tiles floors is fine Janet. It's just the bathroom shower looks so great it makes me want to freshen up the rest of the house. They would professionally clean it and then seal it. It honestly doesn't need it and I probably won't have it done but just saying ... it would be nice.
Yum on chix parm. Ouch, on stripping rose thorns but I'm sure the Jello shots will lessen the pain. Do the jello shots have alcohol in them?
Caught the cooking show Cooks Country just now and they did a recipe for Sausage Ragu. It looks so good! I was able to write down the ingredients so may venture to make it someday.

We have terra cotta tiles in both entranceways. I love them, especially in the winter time as they absorb the sunshine through the windows, but they too could use a deep clean professionally and probably a sealer as well. I've never done anything with them. I do get bit a couple of times each day from the rose thorns but you wear gloves and bend the thorn sideways and so the vast majority of times it doesn't hurt. Yes, the Jello shots have Cinnamon Fireball whiskey in them. :) I'll take a photo when I'm done with them as I think they'll turn out really cute. :) Sausage ragu sounds nummy.

    Hi again.

Good idea staying in and relaxing, Janet. Have you heard from Benjamin?

Hi Joce. Watched the opening ceremonies last night also. They were nice, but not the best. Of course, I couldn't have begun to figure out how to put together a show like that, so who am I to critique! Ha!

Did LD enjoy his outing, Linda? Yes, tiling can be very odorous for sure!

The roads were okay, the bad stuff had not yet come. 63 had been treated, so it was quite passable. Mel has a puncture wound on his thigh and it is causing problems when he jumps, but it was not infected. Possibly courtesy of Traveler? His mouth has some infection and he needs his teeth cleaned....that is why he can't eat. He is drinking water, however. He had a slight fever. She gave him two shots and a RX for antibiotics. At the moment he is beside me, on a warm blanket.

We picked up some Canada Dry ginger ale for GS....it is the only one available here with real ginger, not flavoring! She works four hours tonight so he will stay home with strict instructions and premedicated. The weather deteriorated as we approached Licking. Her walkway was all black ice. We didn't go inside, just left the soda on the porch. Judging from the severity of his symptoms it was probably best not to be unnecessarily exposed. Our steps were dry when we got back home.

Wayne has built a fire in the stove. Trouble joined Mel on my lap. Fritz has been chastised for barking at cats, and is in his bed, awaiting his opportunity to sneak in another bark.

It is looking more foggy so we may have weather moving in, finally.

I am glad you are so pleased with what the grout guys did with your kitchen and bathroom, Linda. Sounds like they are really professional. Really cool on the rescue vans. I am on a couple of bread groups on FB and I have learned so much from them about bread, flours, and proper measuring technics. They are so helpful in answering questions as well.

I hope Ben has a marvelous vacation, Janet. Your English Muffin Bread pic on FB looks awesome!

Very pleased you went to the vet and found out what the problem was with Mel, Karen. I hope he heals quickly and is back to his old self again very soon. You never used to be able to get Canad Dry Gingerale in MO years ago when my Aunt would come to visit she would load up the station wagon with it along with other things she couldn't get there at the time. I hope your GS recovers quickly. Probably a good thing you didn't go inside just in case. Stay in and cuddle up by the fire.

The bread is really lovely. I'll do up a review for it once we have it toasted. We each had one piece as it came out of the oven. NOM! :)

Benj messaged us to say he'd landed but I haven't heard anymore from him since and it is 4:13 a.m. Not that that means he's necessarily asleep yet. LOL. He is a nighthawk extraordinaire.

Oh dear that Mel has a puncture wound and a mouth infection. Do you plan on getting his teeth cleaned? We never had to do that with our cats thank goodness. One was extremely susceptible to hair balls though. Sorry if TMI. :) That's good the Vet gave him some meds. Is the prison guy still on the loose? Good idea not to expose yourselves to your GS. It was nice of you to leave him a drink.

Thanks Joce! It's a really nice bread and I'm very pleased.

Good afternoon and hello to all. Wow, checked out your Chicken Parmigiano Recipe Janet and it looks delightful! Will def short list that to make soon. Yum! Glad you were happy with your grout guys Linda. It never fails when you do one project you always think, gee, I could spruce up more, lol! I have a floor steam cleaner that works really well on my tile and grout but there are many areas that could use some new grout done. One day............ Hoping Mel nd your GS recover quickly Karen.

Just got back from doing the week's grocery list and getting Valentine things for all the kids. Kind of wore me out, lol. But I wouldn't let hubs come with me so I guess lugging it into the car by myself did me in lol. Fortunately, Cayce pulled in the driveway the same time I did so could bring it all in for me. Hubs is not allowed to lift anything. He is feeling worn out too and lightheaded today. I kept trying to tell him yesterday that he was already over doing. Men! He has since admitted to me that yes, he did. Has taken several naps today and is feeling better now. We have Kaiden overnight tonight and daughter called earlier to make sure it wouldn't be too much. Told her no, Opa was actually looking forward to him being here. He's such a good kid anyway and never a problem. One of her best friends is getting married this month and tonight is the bachelorette party. Had originally planned to go to our local diner for dinner tonight since Kaiden would be here. He loves, loves their chicken fingers. Will see how hubs feels. He says he's up to it, and of course I will drive. But if later he's not feeling good again I'll come up with something for us to eat. Got plenty of quick options.

Hope all enjoy the rest of their Saturday!

What kind of goodies do you get for the kids for Valentine's Day Kimmer? I miss having little ones around for such holidays. Glad your Hubby is feeling a little better now. We don't always realize how much such procedures knock us out. It takes a while. Hope your daughter has lots of fun at the Bachelorette party. You know, I don't think I've ever been to one. Enjoy the evening with your Grandson.

Well Janet, with the exception of my grandson and daughter's beau's daughter, my kids are grown but I still do Valentine bags and make them hunt for their Easter baskets, lol. And they still get a birthday table set up on their day. It's hard to let go of all those traditions. But they all still love it and would miss it if I didn't! Mainly for the boys, I just make a small bag up of their favorite candy, along with a new toothbrush and tooth paste, lol! That has always been a joke in the family with candy bags or Easter baskets for a long time now! For Kaiden and Tori (daughter's beau's daughter) I bought them the cutest little stuffed animals. An adorable blue unicorn for her and a dinosaur for Kaiden. Then, lo and behold at the Dollar General I found these light up plastic cups with attached straws. They are sooooo neat as they sparkle up and down with lights for quite a while! Got one with a unicorn on it for her and a dinosaur on Kaiden's. Love when things match out when not even trying! For Kaiden I got a Star Wars Hot Wheels Car (he loves Star Wars) and a sling shot type rocket that is suppose to whistle when launched. For her I got some special nail polish designed for little girls (she is obsessed with nail polish and her Mother is just fine with it) in heart shaped bottles and a really cute sticker book with all kinds of stickers, which I just realized........has unicorn stickers! Will have that in Valentine bags with just a bit of candy. For Karli and her beau Kevin, I got them both a bottle of Sangria, which they both love, along with just a tad bit of candy. I am a holiday NUT! And for Hubs, did get him a small bag that I will put just a few things of his fav candies in.

Awww...that's so sweet you still get stuff for your kids Kimmer. How special. You chose such fun items for the little ones. They'll be delighted!!! EVERYONE got presents. That's excellent. Jim and I think we'll make a special dinner at home on Valentine's Day simply because we've been out so much over the last two weeks. We already bought a nice bottle of bubbly when we were in the Niagara region. We don't usually buy presents for Valentine's Day for each other anymore although Jim does sometimes bring home roses which is very sweet. I really should go get him a little something. Maybe a nice bottle of red wine and some gummies. He's a gummy monster. :)

Hi Kimmer! You are definitely a holiday person - I'm sure they appreciate the effort. Your hubby sounds like a typical male. Wayne is the same way!

Hi Janet. We have Ash Wednesday services the 14th so probably will just grab a bite on the way. On Mother's Day Miller's Grill gave a free Mimosa to the mothers who ate there. Since it is Ash Wednesday that might not be too appropriate though.

SP Joce ? We were comfy in front the fire until we had a fire call. A minor accident, I think. Anyhow, four firefighters responded and there was one person involved so we were staged at the fire station. Whew! Back home now.

Yes -- the prisoner is back in custody. He was seen in Licking and the street in the picture of the arrest looked quite familiar, not too far from where daughter lives.

GS told her he was " 4 % better" -- he is very precise! He was really sick. Absence is school has been really bad from winter type viruses.

Mel is feeling better - gave him his first dose of antibiotic, will try to get him to eat tuna if we stay home tomorrow, pick up canned baby food if we go. The vet said he was a good cat, he never argued at all. I think he was so sick he didn't care. We were serenaded all the way there and all the way home in relatively quiet meows of various tones. AC is worse.

A rather interesting character was at the vet's office. He said he had bad paid $600 for a twenty pound bobcat/housecat cross that he adores. He said it sleeps next to him in his sleeping bag. His political views (why he ever started on them I will never know) were skewed to say the least. I doubt if either the right or left side would agree with him. I did manage to change the topic by chatting with a lady about her dog -- she joined in gladly, both of us wanted to steer him from lamenting the fate of the country! The staff apologized -- he is known for that behavior. But at least he takes care of his animals! Not even Mell sleeps in the bed. Ha ha.

Daughter is going to call us when she gets home. Roads are bad and she is going slowly, not her usual habit.

Have a nice evening. Or is is night? Ha.
