Sunday's Seafood Platter

  • chuckieb 9 years ago
Good Sunday Morning Everybody! It's a gray, overcast day here in the Ottawa Valley and it's supposed to rain all day. I'm making Jamie Oliver's Seafood Platter for our lunch this afternoon.
    http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/seafood-recipes/bloody-mary-seafood-platter
I have some b/s chicken thighs thawed which I will turn into one of three recipes I'm contemplating and will serve fresh corn on the cob on the side.
Jim has just headed outside to start dragging the branches from the felled trees over to the flat rock area where we can burn them on a better day.
Didn't end up making that Greek Salad last night Marie! :) I cheated and used some Kraft Greek dressing instead. Still tasted good. :)
Had bacon and eggs and an English muffin for breakfast. Rainy days make me sleepy. :)
Two more puns then I think I'm done. :)

Is that pure rump roast? Nothing butt.

I went to a buffet dinner with my neighbor, who is a taxidermist. After such a big meal, I was stuffed.

Wishing everyone a most lovely Sunday.

    Good morning Janet!

Jamie's Seafood Platter looks wonderful..I love watching him cook. :) Kraft has Greek dressing? I haven't seen that! YUM:)
I sure wish it were raining here,,man oh man, everything is so dry:(

I'm making chicken tostadas with The Best Tostada Dressing Ever today..I did pick up condensed milk yesterday, but..forgot the corn tortillas...I'm not even surprised...frickin 1 ingredient short once again...thank goodness I'm not Karen, having to travel 45 minutes or more to a grocery store! LOL We'd be
starving:-D (Hardly!!!!) I have to drive about 1 minute to get to our little grocery store:)

Karen, good to see you pop in yesterday!!!

Joce, did you hear back from your Doctor? Hope so!

Rick's on the phone, someone left a message last night after he turned the phone off at 8:30 pm..they want prices for 2 doors. Weird hour to call, but we don't care! We'll take it and if he called other door companies, they won't get back to him until Monday...we're open on weekends!

Well, hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday:)

Morning Marie! Yum on the Chicken Tostadas. LOL @ missing the corn tortillas. You know I know how you feel. :) That's excellent Rick was called for the quote. Indeed, you had a big advantage if you call back before Monday.
Here's the chicken dish I've decided to make tonight. Parmesan and Kikkoman. A little weird but it might be good weird. :)

I think the chicken recipe looks awesome!
Yeah, the guy has the garage already built and needs doors like right now..he's checking prices, so we probably won't get it..Rick's not the least expensive, or the most expensive, but he's the very best:) His prices are somewhere in between:) So if a person is just concerned with getting a "cheap" door install, we won't get it..if they want good quality work, we will:) There's actually 3 garage door companies up here if you can believe that..one is way overpriced and the other (where Rick worked for over 25 years) is right in our ball park as far as pricing goes. Last year a woman, on OUR street, had the higher priced guy install a new door for her..she paid hundreds more that she would have if Rick did the install...open your eyes lady, you have a garage door guy right dome the street from you:)

Hi!! Wow that seafood platter looks yummy Janet!! There is some nice looking ingredients in there. Rainy days make me sleepy too, and lazy :) Lovin' the puns! I don't think that chicken recipe looks weird at all, pinned!
Lol at one ingredient short Marie! Yea we have a Walmart about 1 minute away from us, that I absolutely hate and try to avoid at all cost, but I will go there if I need 1 or 2 things quick. Hope the guy buys the doors from y'all, we definitely prefer to spend a little more for better quality.
Going to Uncle Chris's house for a swim party today. Have a double batch of these in the oven to take and omg they smell so good http://www.neighborfoodblog.com/2014/06/easy-one-pot-fudge-brownies.html
There is also supposed to be BBQ chicken, corn, potato salad, fresh peas and beer bread :) Hi to everyone else out there! Have a good Sunday!!

The seafood platter sounds awesome! I hope you enjoy it, Janet. Sounds like you are eventually going to have a huge bonfire at your place! Do you have to have a permit to do that? We do here or else there is a big fine! I am delighted you finally made your own hummus:) As I recall Jojoba has a post on grinding up sesame seeds to make tahini paste. I rarely buy it, b/c it goes bad before I can use it all up! For all you need of it in hummus it can do without it or use a bit of sesame seed oil instead. I can't seem to find her recipe, but here is another one How To Make Tahini Paste
Your dinner sounds yummy too! I don't think the chicken recipe is weird at all! Cute puns:)

    Tina???

Marie, You are the best advertisement and salesperson for Rick! You should go on TV with a commercial for garage doors:) Gosh I hate to hear it is still so dry there:( I should do a great big crazy rain dance for you:)

Michelle, I avoid Walmart like the plague as well:) LOL it is over a half hour away and I don't have to worry about it getting in my way much:) I pinned those brownies:) Your Swim Party sounds like fun and I bet the food will be just perfect for it! Have a blast!

The doctor hasn't contacted me yet, so I am betting he isn't too concerned about it. My antibiotics monograph says that they stay in the system for quite a long time and it can take several days to take effect. Maybe I have other infections they are combating first? Den is doing laundry and we just finished a huge brunch. LOL I am stuffed! Dinner will definitely be later tonight! We are having pork chops, mashed potatoes and glazed carrots with applesauce on the side. Obviously nothing exciting is happening here:)

    Wishing everyone a pleasant Sunday!

Well Rachel is at camp. Frank drove us crazy he gets so antsy. She said next year we are leaving him home. I said we need him to carry the bags lol
We had mcdonalds for lunch, not sure what's for dinner. I need to go grocery shopping and not sure where I will go. Market basket employees are still striking. Everything else is so expensive. The ousted Arthur put in an offer to buy the company so we shall see.

Oh man, do those brownies look good Michelle! At least you have a WalMart close by..for those rare occasions when you need a few items! We hardly ever shop there..it's in Chico, and I've usually got so many errands to run while down there, I just don't feel like doing the WalMart trip..way too many people!!! They were talking about building a super Walmart in Paradise..but so many "mom & pop" business's are against it..we'd save money shopping there, but there would be a lot of business's that wouldn't be able to compete..I say, bring it on:) LOL Just kidding:)

Oh Joce, I'd love it if you did a crazy rain dance for us! I need to google native rain dance and see what I'm doing wrong:-D Just cause your Native, doesn't mean you know how to do a crazy rain dance that works!!! haha
Maybe I should do a commercial for Rick! I just tell it like it is! "Call Door Boy for all your garage door needs" LOL
Well, even so, I sure wish your Dr would have called you back..you shouldn't have to wonder & worry about what's going on with your eyes my dear..it's sooooo hard to get ahold of them on weekends, isn't it!

Tosdada dressing is made, chicken is in the crock pot..lettuce is shredded....most of my prep for dinner is done..just need to grate some cheese....and buy some corn tortillas:-D I usually have some in the freezer..maybe I should check again:)

Oh my goodness did that day fly by! Helped Jim outside with the clean up from the wood. I carted umpteen wheelbarrow's full of wood to pallets to dry over the summer as well as a few wheelbarrow's full of twigs and Jim hauled long branches out. It looks 110% better now. Then I weeded the veggie garden which always takes WAY longer to do than I anticipate. :)
Came in and it was just after 2 so hopped in the shower (boy did that feel good) and then made up the seafood platter. It was very good. I think I might post the recipe here on GR. I like having recipes that I make on a fairly regular basis all in one spot so they're easier for me to locate the next time. It made a ton. We're STUFFED!
Enjoy your swim party Michelle. YUMMERS on the brownies. The dinner menu for this evening also sounds excellent. Don't forget to tell us all about the French dinner last night please!
We've had three bonfires so far Joce and probably need to have three more in order to get rid of all these branches. Yes, in theory we're supposed to have a permit but as long as we keep it small and under control no one says anything and even if bylaw came around, which would be highly unlikely, I think they'd just give us a warning. We don't go crazy. We live in the middle of the woods so we know what's at stake. I did end up making my own tahini paste. Followed this recipe:
    http://www.daringgourmet.com/2014/05/21/how-to-make-homemade-tahini-paste/
which is virtually the same as the link you just posted alright.
I too am a Walmart avoider. I just don't like them. I'm disappointed your Dr. didn't get back to you yet. Your dinner tonight sounds very yummy.
How fun for Rachel to be off at camp. Is Market Basket where you do the most of your shopping usually Laurie?
Oh Marie, I so want some of your tostadas even if I'm still stuffed from lunch. They sound sooooo good and I have been craving Mexican the last week or so. I really enjoyed both those rain dance links. Somewhere around here I have a Native American CD with a lot of flute in it. Really nice.

Yes. It's really hard to explain Market Basket. They have really low prices. Corrine would probably understand but they make everything affordable to the lower class and middle class. So everyone is taking a hit. But picture if you had to start shopping at places that were a good 15% to 30% higher every week. It makes a huge difference. A pound of lean ground beef 93%lean is usually about $3.49-$3.99 at the Basket. Whereas you don't even pay thAt low of a price for 80% at the other grocery chains in the area. Plus Market basket is in Wilmington. They built the business on low prices and good customer service. If you so much as stop to breath in the Dairy aisle the manager will come over and ask what he can get for you. And it's like thAt in all the Market baskets not just my local one. I e been to others. Always busy but they always have a ton of ringers on. Hire the developmentally delayed to bag your groceries. Lots of kids work there and they give bonuses twice a year to employees. If the kid is at college when the bonus comes out. Arthur T would make sure it got mailed to them. No other company is like that. It's not a union and that is Rare! I really hope they let him buy the chain. The other side of the family is greedy and they were planning on selling all along. Which at first they denied but it came out in papers this week. The last protest rally on Friday had over 10,000 people.
Whole foods is crazy expensive and far from me as is trader joes. Shaws and stop and shop are my other options.

Been in hospital since Friday night, released today. BP too high. 187/71 Anxiety is the culprit. However, my chest feels like a vise, if it isn't better, I'm going back but to another ER. I thought I was going to stoke out Friday night.

Liv brought me home. We went to Wendy's for the pretzel bun grilled chicken sandwiches. She is off to see Scotty. Fred is sleeping and I'm about to crash. Can not sleep in the hospital. So, I'm on zero sleep.

Sorry, can not process the thread....I'll catch up later, m'dears.

I'm enjoying hearing the Market Basket saga being played out Laurie. Do keep us tuned. :)
Tina...I KNEW IT! I was going to give it another day and then message Liv on FB. :) I didn't see you on-line at all so thought it was either that one of the dogs had killed the computer or you had landed in hospital. The last post you did you said you were feeling queasy! :( And so....in the hospital...were they able to bring your blood pressure down? Yum on the Pretzel bun chicken sandwich. PLEASE SLEEP! Hugs.

Hi Joce :) Hope your doctor get's back to you soon. Your dinner sounds yummy!
I would post the seafood platter recipe here if I were you Janet, then you could post your awesome pic. too!
I can't believe the Market Basket employees are still on strike Laurie! Crazy! Someone's gonna give eventually I think. I agree Whole Foods is crazy expensive but they do have top of the line stuff. I only go there when I got to TJ's because it 2 minutes away. The only thing I buy there is the fresh bread and meat that's on sale.
TINA! I had a feeling something was wrong. Wow that is super high BP! Get some sleep, we will chat later *HUGS*
Phew I'm exhausted. We played three games of water volleyball back to back. Didn't realize how tired I was until I got out of the water and sat down. Food was great, brownies turned out DELISH!! Best brownies I've made so far.
As for the French dinner get together last night, we had a ton of fun! We had an appetizer of French Onion soup, then the dinner was Morel Mushroom Chicken with Cream sauce (YUUUMMM) and my ratatouille and a salad and dessert was Creme Brulee! We get together and do this once a month with a different theme which Bri draws out of a baggie. This time she drew backyard BBQ...so super easy for next month :) The hardest one that we haven't drawn yet is color theme, where everything will have to be the same color...not sure how we will decide what the color is though lol! Anyway it's just a fun way to spend time with family :) Hope everyone has a nice evening!

OK we are back home after being in South Carolina for a church convocation. It was fantastic and inspiring and one of the best I've been to in some time. I HATE flying so we drove the round trip of 1983 miles. Did not have free time and got back to the motel so late all I wanted to do was sleep.

Al our critters were fine. Our daughter stayed over a couple nights to keep an eye on things; she said A.C. ate constantly. He was starved when we got him and I think our "disappearing" made him think he was abandoned again. So now we have to rethink how to deal with him when we are gone.

Both of us are tired of motels and glad to be home. It is late and I'm ready for bed.

I haven't had a chance to read thru the posts. Hope you feel better, Tina, be careful with the BP.

    Night all.
