Sunday's Smiles....

Good Morning Everyone! Hope everyone got a good sleep last night and is feeling well rested! :)

It's a glorious sun shiny morning here in the Ottawa Valley. Jim and I are going to drive to Middleville today. Some of Jim's ancestors settled there and the local museum is having all sorts of talks and events that we will go participate in. Chance of another thunder storm this afternoon so we'll see what happens with that. I've boiled up some eggs and will pack us some egg salad sandwiches and some fruit for lunch.

Going to make Egg Foo Yung and some dumplings for dinner this evening. Something nice and easy after a day out and about.

Will need to put my chicken broth in jars down in the freezer at some point. I also want to make up a batch of Chalet Sauce for
    Chalet Style Chicken
that I can bring to the cottage with me for Tuesday night's dinner. Thought it'd be way easier making it up ahead of time instead of bringing all the ingredients with me.

I'm also going to make another lentil salad next week. The last time I did it I used French Puy lentils and they were perfect and didn't get soft, but I'm all out of them now. Can anyone tell me what other lentils work well in salads? I have brown and green and orange in my pantry I think. I'm pretty sure orange ones tend to go mooshy.

Glad you had a nice day with your DH yesterday Linda. Flounder Almandine sounds very nummy. Do you have a recipe posted? Your raisin bran muffins looked nice.

Wishing everyone a peaceful, relaxing Sunday!

    Good Morning Everyone!!

Have fun in Middleville today Janet. I've never had egg foo yung but it sounds good. It's a sunny start to our day too but more than likely we will get rain at some point. I've always used brown lentils when making lentil salad, just watch the cook time. The French ones sound wonderful though. No recipe for the flounder ... just seasoned and broiled the flounder then in a sauce pan melted butter, squeezed a little lemon juice in to taste, added fresh chopped parsley, and slivered almonds then spooned it over the flounder.

I pulled out a pork loin and will roast that for dinner along with roasted potatoes and I'll steam up asparagus. I have enough stuff here to not have to go grocery shopping. Will also make a pot of chicken and rice soup for lunch. I have everything prepped so all I need to do after I pick DH up and return home is to put it together and let it cook. It cooks up quickly. Need to rotate things out that are in the freezer.

Had a raisin bran muffin for breakfast and it was very good. Very happy with the recipe.

    Good morning:)

Janet, yum on Chalet Chicken..I adore the sauce:) Sounds like a lovely day you and Jim have planned:) Enjoy! CUTE kitten pic!!!!

Linda, thanks for the tip on the spoon in unused champagne! We didn't have any left yesterday so i couldn't try your neat idea..hahaha But we will surely try it on the next bottle:)

Joce, I googled the Kilt Run (I believe that's what it's called) looks like some event! I admire runners...if I were to do a run, I'b be walking...I can run worth a hoot anymore...

We will be having turkey and rice burritos for dinner..easy...I'll cook everything this am so we can reheat in microwave...that's usually what I try to do during hot Summer days..prep what I can in the morning..thank goodness it's supposed to cool off to double digits next week..high 90's in the valley and hopefully high 80's up here...

Well, doing some laundry, again, while it's fairly "cool":)

    Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

It's already hot and humid here ... 92(f). I use my large toaster oven to cook most everything this time of year, the grill, and the crockpot. Just too hot for the oven.

I never was a runner Marie even in my younger years. i can walk for miles but forget about running.

    Soup is on!

Enjoy your time in Middleville today, Janet. I noticed they were having an event today and was wondering if you and Jim might be going. It is very dark and overcast. I have a feeling it might rain again. I think I have only watered my hanging baskets once or twice this year!
Yum, your dinner sounds awesome, Linda. I hope DH enjoys his day with you again.
I don't like running either and I am not fond of walking long distances either.

Yes, the Kilt Run is something to see, Marie. They have lots of fun and some of them walk. It is funny to see a Chinese person in a kilt as well and many nationalities go just for the fun of it. Our little town is only normally a population of 6,000 but when something like that is going on we have been known to have over 100,000 people here! Funny I never think of having turkey unless it is Christmas or Thanksgiving. I must pick a turkey up soon.

Den did the laundry this morning as we always do b/c the cost of electricity is much cheaper on the weekends than during the week when it is prime time. Dinner will be pot roast with roasted potatoes, gravy, and steamed broccoli. If I feel like it I may make Yorkshire pudding as well.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Hello everyone!
Experiencing a heat wave here. Some of the heat from California is up this way but not nearly as hot as Marie had it! Tomorrow should be the last day of the heat wave then we'll get some cooler temp's. We're finally putting in the AC right now. We have a portable one that we need to install on the main floor instead of the old window one. (The window one we will put in the bedroom.) I wish we had Central AC!!
We worked hard in the yard all day and night yesterday. We cut down all the trees along our fenced lane that were constantly blowing over in the wind storms. The prev. owner cut all the stumps to about 5-6ft. And the limbs growing off of it were at least 30ft tall and falling over as some stumps had rotted. Anyways, a big job to clean up still. We did several truck loads to the yard waste facility, and have several more to do. Pete still has stumps to chop for firewood; that will take a few weeks to get through. I plan to plant some trees this Fall to fill in the gaps. Since we already have birch and cherry trees I'll probably plant that-- instead of the Laurel Leaf Willow trees that were there. Such a messy tree anyways!
Dinner will be grilled burgers with broccoli salad.
I'd better get back to work, I feel bad Pete is sweating away while I type, lol! I'll have to read back later!
    Have a great day everyone!

Turns out the lentils that to me look brown, are called green lentils. LOL. Then I have some that I bought at an Indian food store that are also brown in colour but the package says noori, which when I google that says it is a rock band from Pakistan. LOLOLOL. I'll give one or other a try a bit later Linda, and as you say, I'll watch them to make sure I don't overcook them. Your dinner sounds wonderful.

Hi Marie! We NEVER have leftover champagne. Jus' sayin'. LOLOL.Your dinner sounds good. Ugh that you're still having such high temperatures.

Hi Joce! The Middleville Museum organized a photo of descendants of the town and had a drone take a picture of everyone holding up signs with their ancestors last names on them. They did it a few minutes earlier than they had planned as there was a big, black cloud heading our way. Sure enough, about 15 minutes later the heavens opened, lightening, rain, you name it. :) We even saw hail on the roads and fields as we were heading home. It was a really nice event and they had people singing and playing instruments, home made baking (there were these AH-mazing rhubarb squares, shortbread bottom, rhubarb topping SO GOOD!), coffee and tea and then they had talks and of course you could wander through the museum. Jim's 5th Great-Grandfather and 4th Great-Grandfather have personal items in the museum so that's super cool. LOVIN' your Sunday dinner as always. :)

Glad to hear you're getting the AC in Shona. Wow you sure did some yard work and then some alright! Burgers sound deelish!

I have a very funny feeling, Jim is related to Walter Mckay.Such a sweet man. He is the father of a GF of mine. She grew up in Middleville and her Dad who is in his 90 still lives there. Many things in the Museum were donated by his family. She may have been there today but she has many brothers and sisters too. I have been to that Musem several times. When they have their quilt show it is amazing!

Joce, there is a woman who we've seen at Middleville events before who hails from the McKay's and she was there again today. She plays a big part in the Museum and we've talked to her a couple of times. She is a wealth of information. Perhaps that's your friend. That being said, there was a Harold McKay that we met today who is a real estate agent and he and Jim are related. Harold is doing a ton of research on that part of the family. Also met Harold's niece. LOLOL. EVERYONE'S RELATED!!! :) They were raffling off a lovely quilt today. I think the draw is in Sept. I bought three tickets! :) LOVE quilts. I'll have to watch for the Quilt show.

Yes Linda, I was never much of a runner, but I DID run when I had to..in PE and all:) Walking is more my style as well now:)

Joce, OH, they wear kilts in the run? How fun..I think kilts look good on a man:) I remember seeing Sting on some program singing once, and he was wearing a kilt...he looked very handsome:)

Hi Shona:) Glad to hear you aren't getting really hot temps there...we here in California would gladly push some more heat up your way if you would like!!! I bet not! LOL

Oh man Janet! We hardly ever have leftover champagne either, but I didn't want Linda to think we were lushes....ROTFL! Now maybe if we had TWO bottles there may be a smidge leftover:) haha
Rhubarb squares sound divine! Especially with a shortbread bottom...yum! Wow on the weather!!!

My DH doesn't drink champagne and a full bottle is just a little too much for me LOL!! I would buy the little splits for me but they are not enough.
The soup I made turned out fabulous and dinner was great too. I love good cooking days.

That's great that electricity costs less on the weekends Joce. I had called my electric company about a year or so ago to ask them if there were peak rate times but here this isn't. Pot roast sounds great. Yikes on your bad storms and hail.

Glad you were able to get a lot of the yard cleaned up Shona. Bella the bunny would love your willow trees. Bunnies love nibbling on willow twigs and leaves.
