Sunday's Snow Eggs

  • chuckieb 8 years ago
    Good Morning Everybody!

While searching for an "S" word for the thread title this morning, I came across the term "Snow Eggs" and had not a clue what that was. But....since it is still very much snowy out my windows, I thought perhaps this was a good lead to follow. :)

Snow eggs are a dessert of French origin, basically raw egg whites (meringue) served floating on a milky custard sauce. Some variations use a thicker sauce, served on top of the dumplings, but usually the milk mix is thin, almost liquid, and the dumplings "float" on top.
The dish is served at room temperature or cold.

It's a lovely sunny morning here in the Ottawa Valley but we still are hovering at 17F/-8C. Jim and I are supposed to have a Skype call with Benjamin this morning and after breakfast we are heading downtown to the Shaw Centre to go see the "Travel and Vacation Show".

I've never been to the Shaw Centre yet. It was just built a few years ago . It's a very cool looking building so I'm looking forward to just going to see it, plus it'll be fun to see what vacation ideas we come across. :)

    Dinner this evening is
    Lemon Rosemary Brined Roast Chicken
which I put in brine yesterday morning. Very much looking forward to it. I have a bunch of mushrooms I want to use up so I may do Marie's
    Parmsean Garlic Buttered Stuffed Mushrooms
and I've got more asparagus to use up as well.

Our dinner last night went well and was pretty low key. Our guests enjoyed the meal. I have a TON of leftovers. The ham was a 7 lb. one. Not that that's a bad thing as I can simply carve it up and freeze it in separate bags to use later. I love ham gravy. Got lots of that left as well.

Jim and I are off on a little trip to Quebec City tomorrow. I'm very excited. I've never been and Jim was there once as a little kid. I found us a really cute Hotel in the old part of Quebec City for a really good price as this is kind of off season.

I've been googling restaurants to try and places to see. We're just going for two nights and then are going to stop over in Montreal on the way home for dinner and an overnight visit with Jim's cousin and his family.

My arm is feeling markedly better and I'm so pleased! It almost feels like things have shifted back into place and it feels a lot more 'normal' now. :)

    Wishing everyone a great Sunday!

Marie....I LOVED that link you gave for the Almond blossoms. They're stunning! I'm envious! :)

Good Morning. Woke up to a bright blue sky, the sun is shinning, and it's 72 (f). 17 degrees! I love colder weather but that's just a little too cold for me. When do you expect to have the weather start changing Janet? Have fun at the show today! and the brined chicken recipe looks wonderful. Travel safe tomorrow and enjoy your trip too and happy your arm is getting better.

Going to take a drive down a couple towns to Naples. Should take about 1/2 hour or so. DH needs to go shoe shopping and being it's nice outside (not expected to get scorching hot) we'll have lunch outside someplace and bring the dog. Most malls here are outside structures meaning that to go from store to store the access is from a walk outside. The nicest thing about living here is so many places are pet friendly as long as your pet is leashed and behaved. They are even welcomed in the stores. Most people don't but it's nice when you have a small dog with you that you are able.

For some reason I've been extra tired this weekend. I've been sleeping like a rock too. I'm not sure what's worse ... insomnia and not being able to sleep, or being so tired you could sleep thru an earthquake. ?

The ricotta poundcake I made yesterday came out great. Much better than the poundcake I made at Easter so I'll stick with this recipe when I want poundcake. I save so many recipes that it was nice to actually make one (LOL!). http://www.sweetbitesblog.com/journal/2013/11/9/ricotta-cake.html

Home office is all straightened out and since it has my attention I'm now going thru files and throwing out what's old. Next will be my clothes closet ... it's in pretty good shape but I do need to let go of more things I'm not wearing. There's nothing wrong with stuff which is why I hold onto it but if I'm not wearing it it's time.

The weather network says by next Sunday our temps are supposed to be up to 62F Linda and that's pretty balmy for us. Bottom line, we can't plant anything until the end of May without worry of frost. :) I know the cold winters freak people out but I could only live where there are definitive season changes. After a cold winter, one anticipates and appreciates spring that much more. :)
Enjoy your jaunt to Naples. I've heard either Tina or Laura (other ODD'ers) speak of Naples before I'm sure. Hopefully a nice stroll around will give you some pep so you don't feel so tired. (Could it be low iron?) Oh my goodness, don't get me started on my clothes closet. It is jammed packed but I really don't wear much out of it. I SO need to go through and clean it out. And I SO don't want to. :)

I am so happy your arm is feeling much better..took a while, but your doing so well and have been since your injury..
Yes, the almond blossoms are beautiful..I like driving around Durham (21 miles from us) this time of year, it's a farming community for the most part, mainly almond orchards..
    A big hello to Benjamin:)

Linda, sorry to hear you're feeling so darn tired! Especially when you get good sleep at night...
Ha! Don't even mention closets! The one in our office is crammed full..our closet in the bedroom needs going thru as well...guess we're all feeling the Spring cleaning bug? I have so much to do around here but don't feel like doing it:(

Dinner will be leftovers since Rick also grilled a tri-tip yesterday...he had tri-tip tacos and I had my usual turkey tacos..tonight we'll have french dip sandwiches with swiss cheese and onion...turkey for me...as usual:)

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday:)

I LOVE Quebec City, Janet! It is one of my favourite places to go! The old part is just excellent! I can't remember the names of the streets but there is one within walking distance of the Chateau Frontenac which is pretty much all restaurants. In the summer when it is warmer the streets are filled with artists. The really old part of Quebec city is at the bottom of a very steep hill and there are little restaurants down there also. There is an island called "Isle de Orleans" and there are nice restaurants out there as well. You can take a Horsedrawn Carriage ride to the Plans of Abraham too. I can never go to Quebec City without having crepes somewhere. YUM! I am quite sure you will have a wonderful time and I hope the weather stays nice for you as you will be right on the St. Lawrence River. I have only ever been there in the Winter and the Summer. Enjoy your outing today and your dinner tonight as well.

Sometimes when I get a really good night sleep which isn't very often, Linda. I feel tired and like a zombie as well. Enjoy your shopping trip to Naples and I hope you HB is successful finding a new pair of shoes.

I hope you have a relaxing day, Marie. Both your breakfast and dinner sound yummy to me!

We took the kids out for brunch to Temple's Sugar Bush. http://www.templessugarbush.ca/ My goodness there was hardly any room on the table there was SO MUCH FOOD! Pancakes, sausages, peameal bacon, an absolutely fantastic omelet, fresh fruit, blueberry preserves, maple whipped cream, home style potatoes, and baked beans. We ordered The Sugar Bush Brunch with extra things for 6 of us and Den had the Breakfast Biscuit and he REALLY enjoyed it. Lol now we are stuffed to the gills:) Not sure what is for dinner. I can't think about food yet!

Thank you for all your kind get well wishes. Very much appreciated. When my Fibro, chest pain, and Colitis all flare up at once I am a mess and am not really in the mood to chat.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday!

Just wanting to pop in and say Hi :) I have a ton of housework to do, so making it quick. We got second place in the tournament yesterday, we were there from 10:30a and didn't get home until almost 8:00p. She had 5 games and it was a long, hot day. I finally remembered to put sunblock on my forehead before putting on my make up, so no burnt forehead for me! I have noticed my forehead being more sensitive lately, so I really need to keep on top of that. Same with Michael's nose. Bri and I ran down to the Under Armour store today at the outlet mall to buy some slides and some compression shorts to make tournaments easier. Her feet were killing her when we got home so hopefully having the slides will help with that and the shorts she can wear under her pants so she can take them off and throw them in the back of the truck after tournaments. Saves my truck from extra dirt lol.

Don't have anything going on tonight, so we are going to grill some steaks and asparagus and I'm undecided on what the third thing will be, maybe just a salad? Hope everyone's enjoying their day :)
