Sunflower Saturday

    Good Morning Everyone!
Jim and I are heading out right after breakfast to the Farmer's Market. Am hoping to get some sunflowers, veggies and I'd love if the melons were ripe! Have some errands to run as well, Library, Hardware store, etc.
Tina? Hope you're doing okay GF. Saw you had posted on FB VERY early this morning so am guessing you had a bad sleep. :(
Shona, so good to see you on yesterday and glad to hear all is well. Bad the dogs got kennel cough. :(
    I did make Tina's
    Blasted Cherry Tomatoes
last night. Very tasty....upscale....and Jim gave a thumbs up! :) I'll write it up on IMI later on today.
That is too bad that Caiden's swim lesson got cancelled and won't be made up Michelle. I'd feel a little ripped off too. :( That's nice that Michael's parents are visiting and fun that they're staying with your parents! Sounds like there will be some nummy food going on today. :)
Benjamin's doing good thanks Marie. There's another typhoon approaching Taiwan called Goni but it's not supposed to make a direct hit to the Island, just lots of rain and high winds.
Michelle, so glad you popped in too! I'd been missing my Fiji updates. :) You never did tell us how those cooking classes were! Those fish tacos sound awesome!
Watched "Gulliver's Travels" with Jack Black on TV last night. Had never seen it before. Goofy but fun. Quite enjoyed it. The Library called and said the second season of "House of Cards" was in for me on DVD. Binge watching this weekend! :)
Wishing everyone a great day. Haven't figured out dinner plans yet.

HI Janet. Saw your pictures on FB - baby turkeys are cute. We like having wild turkeys on the place. They are ecologically friendly and just plain cool.

Hope you find lots of goodies at the Farmers Market.

If I ever start waking up at a decent hour I will post some pix of the trip to Texas, although we did not have much free time and traveling on freeways most of the time limited the picture taking.

When I first read your post I read "Gilligan's Island" instead of "Guliver's Travels" - ha ha! Need to slow down a bit, I guess. Just a tad bit of a difference...LOL!. I'm hooked on the old Lone Ranger shows. Haven't seen House of Cards. We try to catch "Mountain Men" also.

Blondie got into one of the live traps again. Slow learner, I guess. This time he growled furiously at all of us. But he took off like greased lightning when he was released. He looks better than in the winter. I guess he has flourished on cat food that Geezer doesn't eat. Plus we have trapped and released some of his competitors.

The bedroom is stripped to the concrete pad (it was originally a carport) and we have the paint for the ceiling and walls. We hope to finish all the painting today and tomorrow afternoon, since the new carpet is to be installed on Monday.

Good morning:) It's finally the weekend:)

Janet, oh dear on the weather in Taiwan! I couldn't imagine being anywhere near a typhoon..enjoy your day!

Hi Karen:) We watch Mountain Men as well..although I find it hard to watch at times..especially when they trap animals and when that one guy..Marty trapped a Lynx and it was still alive in the trap! I just about died..he had to shoot it to kill it...Our fav Mountain Man is Tom Oar..he's something else. It's a lifestyle I would like but I wouldn't be able to go out and kill my dinner if you know what I mean..where's the nearest grocery store is what I'd be asking:) I admire how hard they have to work to live like that..but it's not for everyone....

Not much going on today, Rick went to breakfast with a friend (I didn't want to go, had enough running around after yesterday) and he's checking the job for Monday to make sure the GD opening is ready...

I don't know what we'll be having for dinner:)

A big hello to all:) Joce, hope your feeling better today.

Hello! Everyone is sleeping in and I am the only one up, lol. The sun is finally shining after two days of rain. The dogs seem to be feeling better but we can't take them for a walk for a few more days, until they are not contagious There was a huge outbreak and hundreds of dogs picked this up at the dog park. Hopefully today we'll go to the local museum, and later today or tomorrow go to the Wildlife Park down the road. They have some exotic animals like tigers and panthers, but also local animals like Bears, wolves and caribou etc. The animal trainer brings her famous bears that reside there in the summer, they have quite the resume from tv commercials to movies, so they do a little show ;) Tonight is Greek Chicken thighs and Potatoes, with a greek salad.
I love Sunflowers, so Pretty! Have a good time at the Farmers market Janet. I'm hoping to take my MIL to our local one on Tuesday. I haven't seen House of Cards, is it pretty good?
Hi Karen, so glad Blondie is doing better, yay! Goodluck with the home reno's! We're doing that right now too, the kids bedrooms had leaky windows and we're repairing the whole wall with plastic/insulation/drywall. Pete's holidays are now house fix it's, lol! He just built new deck stairs too, poor guy, no rest ;)
Hi to everyone, hope you all have a great weekend! I hear the pitter patter of little feet awake now....time to fix breakfast!

SP Marie, nice to see you! Sounds like you need a day to relax, don't blame you for staying home. I have seen that show on the listings but never clicked on it, I'll have to watch it. My son might like it too. Enjoy your day :)

Marie, we are awash in home reno! Company coming next weekend so have to keep it fairly presentable.

Shona, you might enjoy Mountain Men. It is a lifestyle I can not handle at my stage in life, but really respect them.

Tom is our favorite also. Loved the episode where he visited Florida / relatives but was just not ready to retire. Kyle is such a patient and encouraging father to his son (don't they really resemble each other!) and never scolds him for not being able to do something. They seem to have a respect for nature and its critters. Yes, I hate leg traps with a passion, but we have used live traps. The animal can be released if it pleads its case well (denies implication in chicken rustling, points the blame to the raccoons next door, etc.) and it is not harmed by the leg hold. Blondie is alive because he is unusual and has not gone after chickens.

Saw the pic of Blondie on your FB page Karen. It is a very unique looking raccoon that's for sure! What colour did you choose for your paint and carpet for your bedroom?
ROFL @ "Where's the nearest grocery store, that's what I'd be asking". LOLOL. Good one Marie. :)
I went to Al Oeming's Game Farm when I was just a little girl and was FASCINATED by it Shona. Don't know if you ever heard of it. He was quite famous in his day and I saw him years later when Jim and I were first married in Kirkland Lake. He'd take his Cheetah out on the road and do educational talks to raise money for his conservation programs. He just passed away last year. When Benjamin came home in Feb. he got us hooked on "House of Cards". We're just on the second season. Kevin Spacey stars a bad guy Politician. Jim and I love it.
Tina, we saw a car today with license plates from Naples, Florida. :)
Did manage to get sunflowers and a cantaloupe at the Market. Also got beets, cukes and plums. One of our errands into town involved going to see this guy who transfers old 8mm tapes and VHS tapes to disks or memory sticks etc. Jim has three 8 mm tapes that his Dad filmed starting in the '50's and then we had 11 tapes from an old movie camera we had. It'll be a hoot getting to see them again after years and it sounds like the guy will do a really nice job on them. I'm also going to bring him a bunch of slides that I got from Mom's house so he can put those on a disk for me as well. Priceless memories. Fun to pass down. Jim's out about to start staining the new Hot Tub deck.
I'm going to make the slaw from Tina's
Crispy Pork Steak With Asian Slaw
and I'm thawing boneless chicken thighs. Found a neat sounding recipe to coat them in coconut and lime zest and then breadcrumbs and cook them in a fry pan but Jim didn't like the last dish I made with coconut and chicken. :)

Awesome that you got the trip booked for Taiwan in October Janet. Hope you have a great time. Sean came to Australia at the end of July and it was great to see him - it is tough being so far away.
TV here is not really an option so we have been watching old shows that we have on DVDs from home. Mountain men does sound interesting.
Tonight will be seared Ahi Tuna and some okra and eggplant curry. The cooking lessons have been great - more about knowing techniques and what goes with what in terms of local food and spicing so that makes being creative that much easier. Lunch will be Dim Sum now that we found a local restaurant that does Dim Sum on Sundays.
Hope everyone is having a good day.

Ended up coating the b/s thighs with Thai chili sauce and then panko and I'll pan fry them. Jim's a little extra hungry tonight so I found some veg. fried rice up in the freezer from some past take out. Slaw on the side.
I saw pics of Sean on your FB page Michele and thought how nice it was you got to see him so soon! He was in a wrestling tournament I think eh? That's quite a ways to go for a wrestling tournament! Cool on the cooking lessons. YUM on Dim Sum. One of my faves. :)
