Hello everyone! I haven't started a thread in a long time!
I love my job but I love the weekends too lol. Now that I have them off. I always think yup going to stay up late and sleep in. I fell asleep on the couch before 9 and I was up at 6:30 lol

Cute puppy picture! Don't you just hate when you are wide awake so early?

I woke up at 6:50 this morning and fed Geezer, the outdoor cat. Wayne is up and about, unusual for him to be up so early -- he is usually up late and sleeps as late as possible. Ha ha. I like the quiet and, if I sneak into the sun room, peace! I made the mistake of sitting in my recliner, and my lap has been filled. Mel, Trouble, and Fritz are on my lap.

Coffee is brewing. Coffee is a necessary morning item. A ton of work waits in the kitchen. It will wait until after my first, or maybe second, cup.

Good Morning Laurie! After I retired it took forever for me to actually sleep in and stay up a bit later. The work schedule is a hard thing to break. :) But....if one looked at it in an optimistic way, now you have a lot longer to enjoy your Saturday!!!!! :) Cute baby pic of Joy! Is Rachel home for a school break? What kind of punch bowl are you looking for? I have one you could borrow if you were closer. :) I don't think I've heard of a bamboo pillow before.

Morning Karen! Nice you have cuddlers on your lap. A nice way to ease into the morning. :) I just finished my first cup of coffee but am in dire need of a second.

It's 0C/32F at the moment and going up to 2C/35F this afternoon. It's foggy outside too. Thawed some tenderloin steak in the fridge so will grill that up for dinner with
    Beet Salad With Tarragon Dressing
    on the side.

So Bren, give us a review of your gel memory foam pillow that you bought at Costco. If you liked it I may go get one myself to try. Re: the Buckwheat Pillows. You probably saw the kiosk of "The Perfect Pillow" at the mall. The owner used to be a regular customer of mine at the Hardware store and she lives on March Rd. in Kanata and runs her office out of there. I bought one because she was always talking about her business and how great the pillows were. And maybe some people do love them but they are filled with little buckwheat kernels and if you move your head at all it makes a noise. Plus it's very flat and not at all 'cushiony'. I didn't care for them, nor did Jim. You mentioned Roasts being on sale at the Super Store. I've never been to a Super store and there's one not far away. I should really make the effort to go check it out. One of my friends is a big fan.

Nice to see you check in last night Michelle B! As much as I envy you living in Fiji, I can honestly say I don't envy you the 38C/100F temperatures. UGH. I'd just melt into an uncomfortable puddle. You must have air conditioning in your house though! I have never heard of a cucumber peanut butter combo.

Good luck to Caiden at the Derby Michelle. Let us know how it goes.

Going to head to a small rural library and do some family tree research in Fitzroy Harbour this morning. We've got a Hockey Game this evening to cheer on. Wishing everyone a great Saturday!

    Good Morning Everyone!

Cute puppy picture Laurie and too the perfect name for her. Enjoy your pedicure.

We were up somewhat early too Karen, a little before 7:00 a.m. I need to get some kind of exercise in today as I'm starting to feel all cramped up. For some reason DH wants to sleep on the couch and since I have to be with him I too sleep on the couch (It's a sectional so plenty big) but it's not the ideal support and comfort. Hoping I convince him to use the bed tonight. It's a Tempurpedic adjustable bed and so comfortable. Hoping Fritz stays out of trouble today.

At least you have a plan for dinner Janet. I'm not sure yet. I have 6 chix breast thawed because I need to make LD his dehydrated ground chix jerky things today, perhaps I'll use 2 for dinner and grill them. Enjoy the library and hope you find some good stuff there.

Good Luck to your DS today Michelle. Let us know how he does.

We are sitting at about 70 degrees right now expecting to hit around 80(f). Suppose to get rain storms tomorrow.
Need to start gathering tax stuff together too. I'll have to pull out last year's taxes and use it as a reference.
Have no one scheduled to come today for therapies so hoping to catch up on some chores.

The Bamboo pillow was selling at the kiosk in the mall for $90 but then after Christmas it was $30. It may be similar to the buckwheat one. The picture is recent of Joy joy not a baby's picture she just is my baby lol
Rachel's last night home driving her back to school tomorrow depending on her plans we may take her out to eat tonight.

    Hi Janet.

It is supposed to be warm today, upper 50's or 60's pending on the TV station....sometimes I think they pull their forecasts out of a hat....rain this afternoon through tomorrow. I would be miserable in 100F / 38C temperatures.

Have heard of buckwheat pillows but don't think I would like one either. Enjoy you genealogy research.

Started the morning by breaking up a cat fight. Geezer and A.C. had reached the "singing" stage.. A.C. was a trip, really appreciated the extra layers on my arm when I stepped between them, grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and put him back inside. Two alpha males don't get along. Both are neutered, but they are so territorial!

    Have a nice day.

Hope you manage to stretch out Linda. Grilled chicken sounds yummy. Jim takes care of our tax stuff and generally throws it in a file as we go through the year. Then of course there's the stuff you have to wait for to be mailed to you.

That's a good savings on the pillow Laurie. Does the bamboo make noise too? I thought it was a baby pic of Joy as she looks smaller there but I guess it's just the angle the shot was taken. :) Enjoy your Mother-Daughter time with Rachel and have a nice meal out if you decide to go.

Hi Laurie, aww Joy is such a cutie! Too bad you couldn't sleep in, I find I fall asleep earlier on Friday nights too..lol ;) Enjoy your pedicure with Rachel, and I hope you find the punchbowl.

Hi Karen, I hope you can enjoy your coffee in some peace. Sounds like the cats aren't letting you though, lol ;)

Hi Janet, tenderloin steak sounds awesome! Enjoy your family research trip! I envy that you can travel to all these library's and find info, your family must go far back in Canada? Enjoy the hockey game tonight as well! :)

HI Linda, hopefully DH will want to sleep in the bed tonight. Ugh, dreaded taxes, that's no fun. But at least you can get ahead of the game and start early. Good luck with all your chores today :)

The Chinook brings warm winds and migraines! Even Sophia had a horrible headache yesterday, I'm hoping she doesn't inherit my migraines! But she's coughing and sneezing today so it sounds like she picked up another bug :S The flu is bad this year as well as the Noro virus and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) I hope she doesn't have RSV, it's so contagious and Colter and I have asthma! I'm going to do a thorough clean and sanitization of the house today. We also have a very long to-do list of chores this weekend.
I have a memory foam-cooling gel pillow. Pete got it for me for my Birthday, I cannot remember where he got it....I think Bed Bath and Beyond? I love that it stays cool all night. Mine is soft and pillowy, not the hard foam or contour shaped. I can squish it and reshape it, it looks like a regular pillow from the outside. If I find the brand name of it I'll let you know! I'm pretty sure it's shredded memory foam mixed with gel.
Don't get an all-gel pillow, they are too squishy and won't hold it's shape--I started with one of those and I would wake up with my head on the bed and all the gel surrounding my face, lol ;)
Dinner tonight is pork chops and Roasted Potato Salad W Bacon And Corn

Have a great day everyone! :)

What a cute dog, Laurie. Enjoy the pedicure!!
I like quiet mornings too Karen but have to go to the women's den as there is always a European soccer game on Saturdays. Yikes on the cat fight.
I love the look of your salad, Janet. That's exactly where I saw the pillows. Cool that you know the person that makes them. I'm reserving judgement on the pillow. I dislike change and have had to old one way too long. I think that it will grow on me if I give it time. I'll get back to you on that. I love SuperStore and do the majority of my shopping there. I love their reward system and rack up a credit of about 500. a year.
Awww Linda. I hope that you can convince him to sleep where he should be sleeping. I'm not looking forward preparing the taxes. My DH is so disorganized and he puts receipts and such in every corner of the house, even tea cups lol.
Fingers crossed that Sophia doesn't get the flu, Shona. It's circulating here too and it's a bad one. Enjoy your pork chops and salad.
Tonight DH will grill steaks and shrimp and I'll make a caesar salad and baked potatoes. I may through some scallops on the flat top as well.
    Wishing everyone a great day.

Hi Shona! When both Jim and I learned that our ancestors had settled very close to where we live now we were floored! Indeed we know we are SO lucky to be able to go to the local libraries and view the information they keep on hand from the historical societies. We did pretty well today in Fitzroy Harbour and were able to take out four relevant books that contain info on not only my ancestors but also Jim's. Both of us have relatives that arrived in Canada in the early to mid 1800's from Ireland mainly. It really gives a person a feeling of being much more 'connected' to the area. Today I also got to see a Church one of my Great-Great Grandmother's brother was married at and a house that another of her brothers lived in. SO FUN! Oh dear on the migraines! :( I like the sound of your pillow! Yes, do let me know if you find out what brand it is. LOL @ the all gel pillow. That doesn't sound comfy.Goodness that potato salad recipe of yours sounds to die for!!! I hadn't seen that before and you know I'm a horseradish fan. :) Bookmarked to try!

I didn't know Superstore had a rewards program Bren. That's good to know! Yum on your caesar salad and baked potatoes to accompany your steak and shrimp and scallops!!!!

    Good morning to everyone!
Sunny and clear and a beautiful day at 7:30 now with expectations of heat and humidity and high UV by midday. Janet we do have a window air conditioner in the bedroom which we run most nights through the summer. We have one in the living room too but only put it on when we are desperate and try to use the ceiling fans, and pedestal fan most of the time. Since the power tends to go off a lot we have found it better to be accustomed to the heat otherwise it is unbearable when we have no choice.
Laurie, what a cute picture - she is adorable.
Glad you were ready for breaking up the cat fight Karen, hopefully no one was too beat up after it all.
Today will be pretty quiet and the only fixed time is to get my hair cut and a manicure beginning at 1. That will leave lots of time to enjoy the rest of the day.
Tenderloin steak sounds wonderful Janet and so do the pork chops Shona. Steak with shrimp and scallops is making my mouth water.
We will have pancakes for lunch today and then see what can happen for supper as the day wears on.
Hope everyone has a great weekend,
    Michelle B

Hi Bren, I love Superstore too. Since New Years we already have $50 dollars in credit, it sure adds up fast! We use to go to Costco, but have found we get better deals at Superstore so we're not renewing our membership there. I'd rather support Canadian businesses! It took me awhile to get use to the new pillow as well.
Yum on your steaks! I've been craving a good steak, enjoy your day :)

That's so cool you can read up on your ancestors in a book Janet! I'd love to drive by the old houses my ancestors lived in. I did a google street view of two homes my Great-Grandparents lived in, in Winnipeg. They are still standing! They are small chocolate box houses and I can't believe they had 7 children in them. Luckily Manitoba has digitized almost all of their records, but sadly lost a whole bunch in the great fire of 1954. One day I'll go to Winnipeg and look through old news paper clippings and try to find graves etc...that seems the only way since the death records and censuses for them are gone.
I think my pillow is a Magic Gel Pillow. The tag says Made in Canada, machine washable, ingredient: specially designed microfiber-polyfill. So I think it feels like gel but doesn't actually have the gel in it, which is probably why I like this one better, lol ;)

Hi Michelle B! Good idea to get accustomed to the heat, especially where we come from it must be hard to acclimatize! Enjoy your haircut and manicure :)

Taking a break from cleaning and trying to decide what to do next. Probably walk the dogs then give them a bath. We have the garage to clean out and de-ice the sidewalks, mop the floors etc...I think I'm procrastinating right now...better get off the computer and get to work ;)

The Bamboo pillow didn't make noise it was similar to a memory foam. I have it on the couch for dozing.
Went to a few places looking for a punch bowl with no luck. Good driving practice for Becca though lol. I wound up getting this big thing with a spicot from pioneer women. It came with a recipe for blueberry lemonade. I'm thinking this might be better anyway as it's sturdier and since it's closed I can use it outside in the summer without fear of bugs getting in.

Good afternoon all. Beautiful day here today. Quite breezy, which I love, and I think about 75F. Suppose to get bad weather tomorrow with lots of rain and possibly severe thunderstorms so got all my errands done so don't even have to leave the house tomorrow.
Cat fights are no fun Karen. Good you had some extra padding on! I never had that problem when my cats were still alive. But they were male and female and were like an old married couple. Every once in awhile they would get into it put not very often. Ricki, my male cat, on the other had would try to pick a fight with our dog Charlie. Hubs and I would just laugh because Charlie could have taken that cat out in an instant! And there were times when I thought, oh sh$$t, this is it! It's funny how animals don't really seem to know their size. Charlie is a 95lb German Shepherd and Ricki didn't care, would go right at him! Charlie learned his place with my female, Missy. Couple of times he went after her and she just hissed at him and whacked him across the nose, claws out. Charlie learned right away, she was not to be messed with and would not tolerate this kind of annoyance, lol.

Tenderloin steaks do sound good! Couldn't make up my mind about dinner tonight. Was teetering on either salisbury steaks or something chicken so put it to the family vote. Family voted salisbury steaks so that's what it is. Which surprises me out of the boys. They could eat chicken everyday and be just fine with it. So, will do that with probably mashed and might make a nice spinach salad to go with. Want to get some fresh greens into Cayce. I'm a bit worried about him as he has been sick so much lately and is losing weight. Does not seem to have much of an appetite at all really for about a month now. Which is not like him at all. This child generally eats me out of house and home! And ya, gets sick on occasion but usually snaps right out of it and will be fine for awhile. He looks a bit pale too. Called yesterday to make a Dr. appointment for him. Not for his recent flu but I want him scheduled for blood work and whatever else the Dr. feels he should do. I love Cayce's Dr. He is a no nonsense kind of Dr. If he feels it is necessary then we do it, if not he will say straight up, no, don't think we need to worry. Hoping I'm just being an over worried mom right now, lol!

Has anyone looked into that "My Pillow" pillow. Think it might be a little pricey but gets lots of good reviews.

I personally can handle the heat far better than cold. That's why I moved here some 30ish years ago. Our summers can be stifling hot but to me better than bitter cold. Either way you don't want to leave your house!

Enjoy the rest of the day all. Will try to pop back later.

I understand about trying to acclimatize yourselves to the heat Michelle B. I don't think I could do it. When we visit Benjamin and the temperature stays around 30C it makes me grouchy. Nice on the hair cut and manicure. What colour did you get your nails done in? I always like the names of the nail polishes.

It's such a shame some records were lost in a fire Shona! :( Thanks for the pillow details.

The spigot thing sounds neat Laurie. I think I know what you mean. I've always thought they looked cool.

Keep us tuned how Cayce makes out at the Dr. Kimmer. It's always so worrisome when we think something is ailing our children! Your dinner sounds scrumptious.

So I called my Mom yesterday and she told me that she'd had to use her 'emergency' button to call for help on Thursday morning. Basically what happened is just before going to bed she decided to take a bath. When she was about to get out of the tub she couldn't. She said she just didn't have the strength to pull herself up and out. It was only 9 p.m. but she didn't want to call the emergency button as they'd call her neighbour and she felt it was too late at night and she didn't want to bother them. So she let the water out of the tub, and used two towels that were close by to cover herself with and she slept (I don't imagine that well) in the tub overnight. When it got to be 9 in the morning she pressed the button. She was a bit chilly so she filled the tub with more hot water and within 15 min. her neighbour was at the door and inside to help her out of the tub. Jim says he's worried as he doesn't think she made a normal rational decision and should have used the emergency button right away. I too think she should have used it right away but I know she is very very independent and I can see she wouldn't want to bother someone at that time of night. She's going to go in to the office in town where they have a liason that helps the Seniors in town with things. Mom thinks they'll recommend a bar she could attach somewhere to help her. I think they'll be able to help her as well but the thought that she is so weak that she can't get out of the tub does trouble me. :( Here I was just saying a couple of days ago that Dad had installed some bars around when she'd had her stroke, but now she needs more.

We will keep our membership at Costco only because their steak is DH's fav and I love their salmon. Their seasoned chicken breasts are really good too. I envy you and Janet's search for your ancestors.
I know exactly what you mean Laurie. I have one that I've had for years. Little people really love it.
I hope that Cayce feels better soon Kimmer. I too would keep an eye on him, so great when you have a Dr. that you can trust. I googled "my pillow" and they aren't sold here but thanks.
I am so with you with the heat Janaet, I too get grumpy when it's hot. I would be worried about your mother too, I can't imagine sleeping in the tub. We had a company come in and install a door in the tub with a bench for MIL. She couldn't take a bath but she could have a shower. Bars are a great idea too.
