Super Sunday!

  • MotherAnn 8 years ago
Hi all! My first thread I ever started here! :) This weekend has proven to be quite nice and it wasn't even planned! Friday we headed to a wine bar to hear hubby's good friend play & sing while we drank wine; Saturday went to a "Dog Days of Summer" fest with daughter and her pup then had an impromptu cook out with same daughter & SIL; today I was going to make ribs and hubs stepped up to the plate and he's doing instead. I'm glad - he makes GREAT ribs. I'll head to the grocery in a bit and then figure out a few sides to go with the ribs. I still have blackberry cobbler from yesterday for dessert!

Wow! So good to see you here in ODD MotherAnn! We have some great conversations on a daily basis with some pretty great ladies (men are always welcome of course!) .
My husband is the rib pro in our house:) He's loves making ribs and does it quite often:)

Janet, I knew you'd appreciate my remark on "where's the nearest grocery store" from yesterday:-D I cannot believe the Mountain Men don't live near a grocery store! haha

    Not much going on today..yet:)

    I don't have a clue what's for dinner..yet..LOL I sound like a broken record:)

Have a wonderful Sunday all..I'll check back after I have another cup of coffee:)

NPMarie - I never plan too far ahead so usually don't have a clue what I'll be making either. The ribs were planned only because they were staring at me when I opened the fridge! LOL
DonSpain - I'm going to make some slaw to go with these ribs, I think. I also want to try and get some more of that great corn-on-the-cob like we had last night. Bolognese sounds great! Is your recipe in your box? I'm going to go and see!

I'll be "stalking" your recipes - everything I've ever made of yours comes out great. Hubby was just asking last night if I was ever going to make that great paella again. It's been a while. I think I'll have to make it soon!

Well, howdy folks! Just somehow saw this over on AR and thought I'd come see what it's about. Just wish the most recently looked at recipes on AR was working so we could post them in the Buzz.. or whatever the H3LL it's called now. Anyway, we have triple dipped fried chicken strips last night and Baked Potato Rounds that I put too much butter on and called it dinner. Yummo. Anyway, nice to see ya'll over this way!

Welcome to "Our Daily Dinner" MotherAnn and CindyinPensacola!
I'm all for Wine bars Ann. Nice that a friend of yours was doing the music. Yum on both ribs and blackberry cobbler. I haven't figured out what to make for dinner yet but it will definitely be something done on the BBQ. Temps are going up to 26C/78F so don't want to heat up the kitchen.
    Good Morning Marie!
Holy....another new person. Three in one day? I don't think that's ever happened! :) Welcome to you as well DonSpain. Nice on Bolognese for this evening.
Triple dipped fried chicken strips sounds pretty yummy Cindy. We have at least two other regulars on ODD that come from AR. Michelle, Mommyluvs2cook and Shona, CosmicMother. But not sure if that's their names over there too.
How was your Dim Sum yesterday Michelle B? I'm hoping when Jim and I get over to Taiwan in Oct. that his girlfriend will give me a couple of cooking lessons. I've seen her rice paper wraps and dumplings, etc. and they look ah-mazing.
You said you had company arriving next weekend Karen. Where from?
    Tina?
Joce, how are you doing today?
How'd your visit go over at your parents place Michelle? How long are Michael's parents down for?
Laurie, I saw on FB this morning you'd been out running again. It makes me feel very guilty for just sitting on my bum with a cup of coffee. :)
How long is your MIL visiting for Shona?
Better go look in my freezer and see what's staring me in the face. :)
    Have a great day everybody!

Wow. Welcome to all the new people!
Yup ran today again with my little break off group of the Sole Sisters Running club. We have dubbed ourselves the Slow Sisters lol
Not sure what's for dinner I have a lot of leftovers to eat up. Rachel my daughter and I got lobsters yesterday for dinner so frank ordered pizza and there is that plus left over steak stir fry, and chicken thighs. I am making the Laughing cow stuffed peppers. I bought the peppers and put them in the crisper drawer. Out of sight out of mind and now they really have to be used up!
I am kind of craving buffalo chicken meatballs so I may cook lol

Wow, hello everyone! Nice to see you all here!! :) I'm Shona, (Westcoastmom on AR)
Janet, my MIL is here for a few more days, not exactly sure when she goes home yet, she drove here so I guess she can go whenever, lol ;) Pete is on holidays until thurs. so maybe she'll go then. I don't mind her here at all though, she's wonderful!! I'm sitting on my rump drinking coffee too, lol, everyone is still sleeping!
I'll have to try your Laughing Cow Stuffed Peppers soon Laurie, they sound good! I saw the mini peppers the other day.
I love that your adding recipes here Don! For those that don't know Don from AR, he has some fantastic recipes!
I'm craving blackberries MotherAnn! I was just talking with my MIL that I wished we had wild blackberries here, the store bought ones are flavorless. For some reason blackberries do not grow here in Central Alberta---they are out of control weeds back home on the West Coast!
Hey Cindy! I can't even log into AR right now, I was signed in yesterday as missrochester! I couldn't even find a recipe without it taking 2 minutes to load so I gave up! The gang here in ODD is fantastic and welcoming! :)
Hey Nadine, so glad you were able to log in here!
I haven't quite decided on dinner yet, it might be Petes Epic Pork Chops or tacos....or maybe Keni's Slavinkeni instead of tacos, we shall see!
    Have a great day everyone!

Janet, yea! You & Jim are headed to Taiwan in Oct! That would be awesome if Benjamin's GF could give you some cooking lessons! So cool, getting to visit your son:)

Dinner will be Frankieanne's Bisquick Oven Baked Chicken with corn on the cob and a nice green salad..I love her recipe:)

LOL @ "The Slow Sisters" Laurie. :) Sounds like you've got lots of yummy leftovers. Love your Laughing Cow peppers. Haven't made them in forever.
Wow on peameal and perogies Nadine. That's right up my alley. LOVE perogies.
That's nice you enjoy having your MIL there Shona. I despised mine. LOL. Looking forward to seeing Don's and everyone's recipes. Sounds like they're having quite a time of it on AR by what you say. I still wonder if Christopher is still shadowing GR and there's a few things that are broken and haven't been fixed, but....on the whole it works just fine.
We're sure looking forward to visiting Benjamin Marie. I've been looking for a place to stay while we're there. Stayed in a Hotel last year but thought renting an apartment might be a lot nicer and that way we could cook our own breakfasts and some meals as well. I just joined the Airbnb site. Started to hear of it recently but have never used it before. Your dinner sounds wonderful!
We've decided on Won Ton Soup and Pork Larb.
Working out in the flower garden. Have three bags of mulch I want to put down but need to weed first.

WOW! Welcome everyone! I am Joce and also Good4U on AR. With all the talk about ribs you guys are making me hungry!
We are having a prime rib roast with mashed potatoes and gravy and some sort of veg and of course Yorkshire Pudding.
Shona I am glad you love your MIL, that makes it easier for everyone. Does she cook for you sometimes too? I keep forgetting to ask you how the court thing went with Pete at the end of July? I hope you won over that crazy woman with her nasty dog.
Janet, I am guessing you will be in Taiwan for Ben's BD. If so, don't forget to go and vote in an early pole. It is very important this time everyone gets out to vote.

Love the name you called your running group, Laurie:)

Den did the laundry for me this morning and he cleaned the whole house yesterday. He is doll helping me out:)

    Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday!

Hi Joce! Oh my, lol, the court thing. That's a long, long story, lol. I'll try to make it short! So Pete goes to court, pleads not guilty (for the dog fines)--they give him another court date for him to attend---he sees the woman whose dog attacked ours so he decides to wait there and see what happens to her. She pleads guilty to everything, but then the lawyer notices something wrong with all the tickets (The officer filled them out wrong?), so the Judge threw them all out! He then sees Pete's name in the documents and asks if he's still there, so he goes up and the Judge threw our fines out too. So Pete leaves the court house to have the crazy woman follow him out yelling and screaming at him, the cops come out to pull her away from Pete. She's still yelling at him and a lawyer comes out asking if they need to go back inside! Lol, Pete didn't even say a word back to her, you'd think she'd be happy to not have any fines! But she wanted us to give her back the money she gave us for vet bills, but it's just half the money and if we really wanted to we could sue her for the rest! Later on her husband phoned Pete and apologized for his wife's behavior and they shook hands and agreed that we'd just leave it all alone and none of us need the extra fines from Animal Control! At least we saved ourselves $500 in fines! So, she never got in trouble but at least her vicious dogs have one strike against them already. That's great Den is helping you out with housework, what an angel!

Haha, Janet, yes I'm lucky to have a great MIL. I usually do all the cooking when she's here, but yesterday she bbq'd up a salmon she brought over from home. And brought us some homemade canning and fruit leather. That's so great your going back to Taiwan to visit Benj.! yay! There has been a lot of new people joining the site since AR changed their format! Hopefully Kristopher sees the increase in numbers :)

Hi Marie! Lol, I'm back on my rump drinking coffee! I'm putting off going outside to pull weeds!

Cosmicmother: Some years we have so darn many blackberries I quit picking them. Other years they are scarce. These particular ones came out of the freezer, from last year - a year where they were not running all over the place, but enough that I got some and so did the birds. :) I don't think there will be any this year - hubs brought in a tiny little dish the other day so I went out looking - no more anywhere! My daughter has strawberry plants and they were a-plenty this year; she shared with us and they were soooo sweet!

Joce, please pass some of that Prime Rib and all my way!!!!!!!!! Yes, we'll be there for Benjamin's 25th. Thanks for the reminder of the advanced poll. Shall do that for sure. I say Den gets extra gravy on his mashed potatoes this evening for being such a good help! :)
Oh my goodness on the crazy woman with the dog Shona. That's an outrageous story and I'm sure you must be glad to put it behind you. Kind of amusing that the husband called to reconcile with Pete. Nice on all the goodies your MIL brought you.
You are really lucky to get good blackberry harvests Ann. Nice on the strawberries from your daughter too!

Okay I am going to TRY and catch up in here, it's crazy!! I'm Michelle btw to all the newbies and still Mommyluvs2cook on AR :)

Wow, sounds like you had a busy weekend Ann! Yum on your dinner, and blackberry cobbler sounds WONDERFUL!!!

Hi Marie! That reminds me, I need to make up another batch of Ricks Rib Rub that stuff is awesome! Yum on the chicken, I need to try that one of these days.

Welcome Don! I recognize you from AR. I need to check out the recipes you have been posting, bet they are all delicious :)

Hi Cindy, I recognize you as well! Yum on fried chicken and did you say too much butter? That can never be a bad thing lol :)

Welcome Nadine! We don't have pemeal here that I know of. If I remember right I think Joce (Good4U) told me ours in the states is Canadian bacon, which I do know of, and it's kind of a knock off version of pemeal lol. Guess we just can't get the real stuff here!

Your weather sounds nice Janet, I'd kill for the temps to be in the 70's! Yum on your dinner, I just love wonton soup. Good luck in the garden! My MIL left today, they only stayed 2 days, but they are coming back mid October for 2 weeks I think? So we will have plenty of time with them then :)

Laurie, Laughing Cow Stuffed Peppers are so good, I haven't made those in a while. I need to keep an eye out for those little mini peppers. '

Sounds like you have a great relationship with your MIL like I do Shona :) We could hang out for days and never get tired of each other. Lol at being signed in as someone completely different on AR, WTH?! I'm avoiding going there for a few days to see if they can get things fixed some, it truly is a HOT MESS! It wouldn't let me sign in yesterday either. Wow on the court story! What a total B*tch that woman is! Pete was good to not say anything back, and that was nice her husband called and apologized, I bet that made things quite a bit better.

Totally drooling over your prime rib Joce. You are so lucky to get to have it so often, it's SOOOO expensive here all the time. Maybe around Thanksgiving I'll check the prices, surely they will go down then.

Met my Dad and Sister for lunch at a new place called Pollo Tropical http://pollotropical.com/menus/ it was pretty good, and cheap too! Then went grocery shopping and got a ton of lunch box stuff. Now I'm going to have two lunches to pack! Dinner tonight is meatloaf http://allrecipes.com/recipe/michelles-marvelous-mini-meat-loaves/detail.aspx Woohoo I was just able to sign in at AR and find this in my recipe box, progress maybe? Wishing everyone a great evening :)

Wow and hi to everyone - I don't know where to start! I'm Michelle B for the newcomers and I pop in and out mostly because of the time zone difference.
The dog fines thing is crazy Shona! Dogs here run free and every once in awhile the police walk the streets in our neighbourhood telling people to keep them in the yard if they get too many complaints.
Fresh berries sound wonderful - I really miss fresh saskatoons and strawberries and raspberries out of the garden!
Last night we did Seared Ahi Tuna. The fresh sushi grade tuna was on sale at the local shop so we bought a piece and brought it home and cut it to make steaks. It turned out really well, which kind of surprised me.
We also made an eggplant and okra curry to use up the veggies we got at the market on Friday. Not sure what tonight will be but need to start thinking about it.
Prime rib sounds yummy; so do ribs.
Hope everyone has a great day,
    Michelle B

I have Rick's Rub bookmarked but haven't done it yet. Need to short list that. Sounds like you had a lovely lunch with your Dad and sister Michelle.
Although you may be missing berries Michelle B. I expect you've got an abundance of fruit options and some we haven't even heard of here! Cool on the Ahi Tuna. I've never had it.
That Buffalo Chicken meatball recipe looks very yummy Marie. That's neat it cooks in the slow cooker.

    Hi everyone.

Welcome to all the new people! I am Karen, also from AR, Missourifarmwife there also.
Our Daily Dinner is a fun group and very helpful when you have a recipe question. I am sure I can ever catch up today, but will try anyhow.

So cool you have the tickets to visit Benjamin, Janet. Pictures, please!

Michelle, the Pollo Tropical sounds great. Michelle B., how was your tuna? I am jealous at your access to fresh, real, honest to goodness tuna steaks!

Shona, Joce, Marie, and anyone I missed, hello.

We had all intentions to be finished with painting tonight. Then when we stopped at WalMart for gas after church, the car would not start! A couple stopped and gave our daughter and GS's a ride to her house 20 miles away so she could pick up her car and come back for us, refusing to accept gas money! They lived 20 miles in the OPPOSITE DIRECTION. When she drove back they followed, and handed me a check for $100 for her. When they found out she had been layed off from her job they felt God had put in in their hearts to help her and for her to use it for gas and job hunting. There are super nice people in the world. I will definitely pass it on!

Wayne has gone back to start finishing the ceiling edges. Then the rest of the trim on the walls (don't know the correct term, not crown molding but plain trim). We both agree it is NOT the best job, but considering the short time frame and late start this evening, we did O.K. Will have to fix a few little places later.

Have a nice day, or what is left of it. Hopefully we will finish the painting and get to bed at a reasonable hour. Both of us are tired out.
