Surprise Snow Thursday

  • MissouriFarmWife 9 years ago
    Ah, good morning all.

Last night the weatherman predicted flurries south of us and we were on the northern edge of the system. I am now sitting in the sun room looking at two inches of snow on the ground. It is supposed to melt by afternoon. Temps to be in the 50s next week. January thaw is here!

We had concocted turkey recipe - rather strange tasting but I may put it on GR just so I don’t lose it, Wayne liked it in spite of onions and garlic in the same dish.

A.C. escaped last night but didn’t go far. He was amenable to being picked up and brought back inside. Brat. Wayne is too kind.

Laundry waits and so does the bedroom carpet. I need to vacuum and then we HAVE to shampoo it or I will personally rip it up and pitch it.

Looking at wood burning fireplace inserts for heat backup in the event the electric goes out. May be getting a slightly bigger generator, also (ours is quite small and only does bare essentials, not even the refrig and freezer). Or not. Still considering the options. In our younger years we did quite well minus power, but it is a bit harder now. I may break down and agree to Wayne getting another microwave for emergency cooking. I dislike microwave cooking and just don’t like the texture of the food.

Good Morning Karen! Bet you have a lovely view out your sun room at the fresh snow. Wow on it melting by the afternoon. Jim and I were planning on going downhill skiing today but the temperature is -22C/-7F and although it's 'supposedly' getting much warmer by afternoon it seems to me to be quite a stretch! So now we think we'll go out for a cross country ski locally. When all body parts are moving you tend to keep warmer. :) Do you have a carpet cleaner of your own? My Mom had like four of them. Something would go wrong or she'd misplace a part and she'd just buy another one. :) We bought an efficient wood burning insert for our fireplace a few years ago and we LOVE it. It's amazing. But we don't have a generator and when the power goes out the fan on the insert doesn't work so it's not as effective. I don't use my microwave for cooking but it is handy for
re-heating and thawing. Cut pic of the cats in your avatar and funny Tweetie. :)
We're thinking of trying out a Persian restaurant that we haven't gone to yet for lunch today.

It got good reviews in the local paper last week. It looks like they have a lunch buffet on which would be nice in order to try a few different dishes and see if we like it.
I had a dish of Beef Bourginoure down in the freezer which I brought up to thaw for our dinner this evening and we can have some of the fresh buns from yesterday to go with it.
Sens Game on this evening. :)
    Wishing everyone a great day!
Oh! Just noticed on the news this morning that Target is pulling out of Canada! It was less than 2 years ago I think that they opened 133 stores here and I guess it's just not doing the business they needed so they are closing each and every one of them. I feel bad for the 17,600 people that are employed at Target but I honestly can say I won't be sad to see the store go. I was in there maybe a half dozen times but wasn't a huge fan. It seemed very much like a Zellars. Don't know if you guys get Zellars in the States?

Too cool on getting the snow Karen!! I hear you on the carpet. The kids rooms carpet is getting pretty bad. I don't know how it happens considering no food leaves the kitchen and we almost always take our shoes off by the door. I too don't cook in the microwave. Reheating is all I use it for....

That Persian restaurant looks yummy Janet! That is crazy about Target! It is very popular around here, it reminds me of a “nicer” Walmart. Never heard of Zellars.

    Yum on tacos Marie!

It's cold outside once again. This is a long stretch of cold weather for us! Have some things to do around the house and then I think I'll make a Sam's run later on. Now that Marie mentioned tacos, I am wanting one lol! I may pull out some chicken and to chicken tacos, yum! '

Hope everyone had a great day! :)

Good luck with the errands Marie! Yum on tacos.
I guess Target bought out all the Zellars stores when they came to Canada as well as a few Hudson Bay stores. I agree that it is a tad nicer than Walmart. Have fun at Sam's. Chicken tacos would be yummy.

    Hi all.
I have not heard of Zellars, maybe it is Canadian only.
I don't like Target and don't shop there. I was in it once and decided it was just not my kind of store. I do like Sams because I can buy in bulk and the nearest WalMart is a huge super store.
-7F is far too cold for me to want to do anything outdoors if I can avoid it. LOL. It is supposed to hit the 40s today. Typical MO weather - snow falls and melts almost in the same day, except for our lane.
A.C. just fell off of the table by the window, shook himself, meowed, and strolled off like he really meant to do that the entire time. I think he was trying to go through the window and grab Miss Kitty or a passing bird. Brat.

    Love the kitty avatar Karen!
Lola got a stick stuck in her curly pug tail and she ran in circles trying to get it out. Worthy of Americas Funniest. Charlie curls up by my side and he matches his breathing to mine and it is calming beyond words.
We are having mizzle weather ourselves. Temp is dropping. Chili and cornbread on menu.

I've never done a Taco with chicken before but I bet I'd really like it Michelle.
Hi Jett! Drizzly and mist for you. Crazy how all of our temperatures and weather is so different. It's fun to hear.
Awww on Lola getting a stick stuck in her tail. That's hilarious Tina! Chili and cornbread sounds like a great meal for mizzle weather. :)
Yes Marie, we just got back from a cross-country ski. I fell once near the beginning (haven't been out in about six years?) and hurt my bum and severely damaged my ego. :) The conditions were very good really and we weren't cold at all. Jim did a good job waxing our skiis and the tracks were well groomed too. I am expecting a fair amount of soreness tomorrow morning. :) Fun on turkey tacos!
We ended up going to Fusion House for lunch after skiing. Very good, as always. Ready to get the fire going and cuddle in for the evening. It felt good to get some fresh air.

The avatar is Mel on the heater and A.C. on the couch.

They are currently sneaking about being miffed because I put Miss Kitty in a former bedroom (now holder of all the junk we can't put away or organize), with water and food She is not moving right. IF she can walk O.K. in the morning, she can go back outside, if not, I will take her to the vet. She has already beat the odds and survived 5 months longer than they thought.

    Hi to everyone.
