Tarring Tuesday...

  • chuckieb 7 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! it's a bright, beautiful morning here on Lake Kushog. Jim is up on the roof at the moment putting some tar around the chimney as the water is leaking on top of the wood stove in the cottage when it rains. Jim and his brother have contacted a roofer to put a new metal roof on the cottage this summer, but until that transpires, a patch job was necessary.

We had poached eggs and peameal bacon with toast for brekkie. Very yummy.

Have a whole chicken to work with for dinner but haven't decided what to do with it yet. It's going up to 27C this afternoon so I should probably grill it although there's always a nice breeze off the lake to keep the temperatures more comfortable.

I brought along two old family albums. I'd taken the majority of pictures out of them (which was a feat in itself as they were glued into the albums) to scan and share with my relatives on our Family Tree Facebook page but I want to get them back into order before the reunion so I can bring them along and people can peruse them. Especially those who don't do FB. :)

    What's on everyone's agenda today?

    Wishing you a Terrific Tuesday!

    Good Morning/Afternoon all!

I'm just worn out and tired today but still plugging along. Was able to get ground turkey, chicken breast, and ground bison at Costco yesterday so I made DH a simple pot of turkey chili for lunch today. Need to get to the grocery store within the next couple days to get ingredients (and other things) to make up a batch of the Mediterranean Turkey Burgers I like so much and then will freeze them. Taking a car load of boxes to the storage unit and then we will go to the gym. Not sure yet about dinner, I need vegetables, maybe we'll do the grocery store run today.

I've never heard of peameal bacon and looked it up ... it's explained well what it is but it doesn't explain how it taste ... what does it taste like Janet or how would you describe the taste?
Have fun working on the photo albums. I'm sure though it's a lot of work but one of love.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations for photo editing software. I just realized this morning that I don't even have the ability to take pictures off my camera and input them in the computer. I have to find my software disc for that and load it onto this computer and also the cord from my camera to the computer doesn't fit this computer so I have to go to Best Buy and get an adapter. Uggh. Wish I was more electronically savvy but I'll get it done.

That's about it here. Enjoy your day everyone!

I am very envious of you being at the lake, Janet. To me, there is nothing like being at the lake in the summer it just completely soothes my soul. I hope the tar job holds up for Jim's Dad until he can get a new roof on. Good luck with getting your family photos all arranged. Chicken would be great on BBQ considering it is so nice today.

It sounds like you are coming along with moving stuff, Linda. Peameal Bacon tastes like bacon and it is very tender and lean. If you have ever had Canadian Back Bacon it is tenderer than that and the cornmeal on the outside makes it nice and crispy on the outside. It is hard to find in the States unless you order it online. Good luck with finding software and everything for your camera. Mine came with everything. I would take the camera with you and see if one of the staff at Best Buy can help you.

Oops! I forgot to say I bought my BGF a pair of sterling silver earrings which I have to wrap and get into the mail today. It was so hot and muggy yesterday! I did pick up a few other things like milk and eggs that we needed and the came straight home.
We are having balsamic pineapple chicken tonight with basmati rice and fresh steamed green beans.
I better get cracking and get a few things done!
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Hi Linda! You have a busy day ahead of you! I'd say Peameal bacon tastes more like a cross between bacon and ham. It's nice and juicy and thick and has the consistency of ham as opposed to side bacon. Ugh on the camera downloading stuff. I hate sorting through all of that but it is a necessary evil and like you I try to persevere. :) Good luck.

How nice on the ear-rings for your girlfriend Joce. It is nice by the lake for sure. Jim just went for a dip to cool off as he has finished the tarring and then did some patching on the driveway as it gets washed out by heavy rain off and on.

You're right, Janet peameal bacon does taste sort of like that! I was trying to figure out how to describe it. All I know is it is good!

Morning!! Poached eggs and peameal bacon sound yummy Janet as does the whole grilled chicken :) Wish we could get peameal bacon around here, I’ve never seen it. I know we have the knock off Canadian bacon stuff but I think it was Joce who said it wasn’t like the real stuff.

You sound super busy Linda, I kinda know how you feel :P Whoops now I see Joce explained away the peameal bacon to you, so I was right on who informed me before :)

Omg Joce, you dinner sounds wonderful!!! Do you have the balsamic chicken pineapple recipe posted, or are you just winging it?

Got swim lessons done and a Sam’s trip done. Last night I was cleaning out my wallet and found a cash back rewards Visa card from our energy company. I almost threw it away because I just figured I had already spent it and shoved it back in my wallet and it probably had nothing on it. Then I decided why the heck not, just call to make sure. It had $60 on it! So glad I didn’t throw it away! Also the expiration was 7/16 so I literally had 6 days to spend it. How lucky was that?! Used it all up easily at Sam’s today :)

Bought a pre-made gourmet pizza at Sam’s and we will have that after we get back from the drama club tonight. Michael is finally off work so I can have him get it started so it’s ready when we get home. Wishing everyone a great day!!

    Hi.

Have not been around for a bit because yesterday was a bummer! Daughter went by ambulance to Columbia MO with kidney problems. To make it short, she is slated for one possibly three surgeries to remove a huge kidney stone from right kidney, maybe one from the left. Both are blocked. GS and dog are staying with us. We will stop by every couple of days and check on / feed / water her cat and grab the mail. She may be back in a couple days or maybe not for a week.

Notified the church prayer group and she is on their list. Now it is just wait and see. Hoping she is better quickly. May have to have her stay here or a while after she is back. Who knows! GS seems to be handling it well.

Got to go walk dogs now. Wayne is in town running errands. Just got back from commissary picked up stuff GS likes so he feels more at home. Guess we live is spaghetti and burgers for a couple days....ha ha!

Nice on the cash back Visa card Michelle! You'd have really kicked yourself if you hadn't checked on it 'til after it had expired! How's Caiden enjoying the swimming lessons? And how are both the kids enjoying Drama Class? That's great that Michael will be home to give you a hand.

Oh goodness that your daughter suffers from kidney stones Karen. I know that plague only too well from personal experience and she has my heartfelt sympathies. Are they going to blast the stones.....lithotripsy or something else? Having both kidneys blocked is pretty nasty. I've only had one side at a time although I certainly have had them in both. As long as they give her some good meds and keep on it she should be okay until they get rid of them. Has she been diagnosed with kidney stones before? I have to get mine monitored on a regular basis. Is it a good sized hospital that she's being treated at? You will have your hands full between worrying about her, looking after your GS and running those errands. Deep breath! Sending best wishes for a quick resolution.

It sure is a hot one today.

Dropped a few more boxes off at the storage unit then went to the gym. Was there all of about 1/2 hour because neither DH or I had the strength to do much. After went to the grocery store and picked up a few items for the next few days. Bought a nice bag of cherries ... couldn't resist and too they won't be around much longer. Saw a very interesting fruit that I wanted to buy and try called Dragon Fruit, anyone ever try it? I may venture to try it next time?
Going to grill a Bison burger for DH and for me a turkey burger. Will do a sliced tomato with basil side and perhaps asparagus. It's too hot to even eat. I took a B12 and am sipping a cup of ice coffee hoping for that "pick me up".

So sorry to hear about your daughter Karen. Hoping all goes well for her. Janet has all the questions covered that I too was going to ask. Prayers it will be over with quickly and she's up on her feet and back to normal quickly. I know it's stressful but please remember too to take care of YOU.

I think you are busier than me Michelle. You are always going, going, going.

Thanks Joce and Janet for explaining peameal bacon. It does sound good!

Nice on finding a pair of Sterling Silver earrings for your BGF Joce. You can never have too much jewelry I.M.O. ... HA!

I found all the stuff/cords/parts for my camera. I'll venture forward with it either tonight or tomorrow. In the process I realized I can not find the electrical cord for the portable DVD player or the extra electrical cord for my iPhone/iPad. Then I found a couple cords that I have no idea what they go to? I putting each thing with it's own things in a bag so there is no more confusion with what goes with what.

I've tried Dragon Fruit before Linda. It was neat. The one I bought didn't have a whole lot of flavour but lord knows where it was grown and trucked from. Let us know what you think when you eat it. I could go for some asparagus but I didn't actually see it in the store today. I dislike shopping for groceries in stores where I'm unfamiliar with the lay out. :) We have a wicker basket in our office where we keep all the cords and manuals for things. It does get confusing for sure.

I keep everything in my top drawer file cabinet (it's pretty roomy), the bottom drawer is for actual files. Who knows what happened to them. Lesson learned to be and stay organized.

Ugh on the cord dilemma Linda.

Dragon fruit is mild flavored but like you said it is sent from a zillion miles away.

The surgery went well. The left one is going to be well. The right is iffy and may have to be removed due to the damage. GS is with us and he is coping.

She has had bad ones but this was the worse ever. We may have to move them in with us for a while. Or stay with GS for school. Aargh! One step at a time.
