Tempting Tuesday

    Good morning all
Sorry for the weird posting time - it's almost 9:15 p.m. here and I am finally getting some time at home after almost three weeks of travelling. On my way home I picked up pumpkin curry and roti at the food court and then boiled some vudi to go with it. I haven't been cooking much at all since I moved here, for a couple of reasons - one I have no stuff yet but apparently my container of everything I own gets into port this weekend so that will help immensely! It will be like Christmas because I really don't remember what I packed back in March.
The other reason for not cooking is that I am afraid of fire and there is only a gas stove here. I have never cooked with gas before except on the barbeque and then only when Jason or one of the kids starts it for me. I have managed to do it three or four times since I moved in but then there are these flames and I have no idea how high up the pot they should come or if they should just stay under it. Only 5 more weeks and Jason will be here too and then he can light the stove. Until then, when my things arrive, I will have my crock pots, electric frying pan, and electric oven to keep me going.
Tonight I am getting ready for being able to cook again, finding all kinds of recipes I want to try. I doubt that I will ever get through even a fraction of what I would like to but I can always hope.
Korea was interesting last week - I couldn't believe how many coffee shops there were up and down every street. Most of them sold nothing but beverages so I can't imagine how they all stay in business but at least I enjoyed a week of great (and definitely not instant) coffee.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning Michelle! I use our Gas BBQ all the time but I've never cooked on a gas stove. It'll be great when you get your shipment from home and it'll be wonderful when Jason can join you as well. Glad to hear you had a good time in Korea and managed to get a coffee fix for a while. :) Great pictures!
It's a gorgeous morning out. Supposed to get up to 28C/82F this afternoon so I'm going to take a flank steak out to marinate and BBQ. Need a side still. Definitely salad weather. :)
    Tina....? Hope you're okay.
Going to try get the veggie garden cleaned up and weeded and then plant our tomatoes and herbs this morning.

Hi Michelle! I've been cooking on a gas stove for 8 years now with no problems. You'll get used to it! Do you have to light it with a match though? Mine does the click thing and then lights on it's own...that would scare me a little to light it on my own.

Have a good time planting tomatoes and herbs today Janet!

Picked up the kids yesterday then came home to find the neighbors were having a crawfish boil. It was fun! I blew up our kiddie pool so that kept them busy. Going to make something with some of this ham tonight, maybe ham and potato soup? Have a good day everyone!

Quick hi before I take off to run errands and go to the chiropractor.

Daughter and 2 GSs were over yesterday - we had brats and burgers and potato salad and I forgot to heat up the beans so we didn't have them - LOL. She brought a Caeser salad mix and since they are picky bought her own brat bus -- well, the one GS is picky so I told them if they wanted anything different bring snough to share....Haha.
Kitties entertained and youngest GS aheld Trouble a good part of the afternoon.

Hi to all. Have to scoot and get dressed or will be running errands inmy PJs.Aargh! Will pop in later.

    Good morning ladies!

Hi Michelle from Fuji:) I wish I had a gas stove! Where we live it's propane, and you need a tank so they can deliver it to you..we are plumbed for propane, but using the electric stove/oven is far less expensive these days..

Janet, we decided to not plant our tomatoes etc this year..with the septic crap (haha) and drought, it's the least of our worries..first year in many we won't have fresh tomatoes:)

Michelle from TX:) Are those horrible flash floods anywhere near you all? OMG, unbelieveable...been thinking about you..since you're posting, I'm hoping your far away from the flooding!

Hi Karen:) Our friends who live in Greenville called Rick to wish him a HB and they are getting rain like crazy there..the mid west is just getting hammered!

I'll be making turkey meatloaf with potatoes and a salad for dinner.

    Tina? Hope your doing wellxoxox

Fun, fun on the Crawfish boil Michelle! As much as I like living in a rural area where we can't even see our neighbours, I do miss neighbourhood get-togethers. :) Ham and potato soup sounds yummy. What recipe do you use?
Good luck at the chiropractor Karen.
(I wish I was Janet from Fiji) :) Hi Marie! :) Ya, I don't blame you for not planting tomatoes. You'll miss them though.
    Joce? You okay too?
Jim and I got the garden planted. It sure goes faster with two! I bought the wrong lettuce though. :( I bought head lettuce as opposed to leaf lettuce. Argh. Also got the entire front flower garden weeded and swept. Time for lunch.

Sounds like you had a pretty good time yesterday Karen, picky GS's and all :P

Marie, we are a hot mess here with floods. Luckily we are not near as bad as downtown Houston. My Sister couldn't even make it in to work today because the freeway is completely under water. Yum on meatloaf and potatoes!

Here is the recipe I'm using Janet for the ham and potato soup http://allrecipes.com/recipe/chef-johns-ham-and-potato-soup/detail.aspx

I am going to sub milk for the heavy cream though...

I pinned that Ham and Potato soup recipe Michelle. It looks delish and right up my alley. I find that soups that have potatoes in them get enough starch from the potatoes that adds as a nice creamy texture if you mash them so I'm positive the milk will sub very nicely for the heavy cream. Holy cow on your sister not being able to get to work because the freeway was under water! Yikes!

We got some rain but the storms dissipated before hitting us...they revived closer to St. Louis, however, from what I heard.

Boo on all the severe floods!

Chiropractor appt. was good and I love the way I feel after a good percussion.

We use an electric range - have since I can recall. About the only thing I know about gas is that propane gets refilled and natural gas lines have been known to blow up! Neither of which is of any use to anyone, so guess that is not much help. I'm sure you will figure it out and soon be preparing some fantastic local dishes.

I have two cherry tomatoes plants and one tomato plant on the porch -- have to stake the regular one soon so it does not break. My calculations are we will have maybe one or two large ones and half a dozen cherry ones -- maybe, if critters don't get them. Ha ha!

Ham and potato soup does sound yummy. But I would use the heavy cream and love it. Milk has milk sugar in it, and my orders are to stay away from sugars of all kinds. Which is not easy -- read the labels on canned stuff. Heavy cream is allowed because though it has good fats, LOTS of them, it does not have all the sugars. Although tonight we will probably get burgers. Tomorrow lunch will probably be brats.

I am supposed to be doing next weeks grocery list so best get at it. See you later.
