It's not Thanksgiving day until Monday here in Canada but the weekend is starting and it has me thinking about it. Sometimes trying to remember to be thankful is hard when there is so much to worry about. Tonight is the Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Jason, I teach my class this weekend in Weyburn, cross country running and fall rugby are over and Laura finished without injury and Sean's university and Dylan's apprenticeship are going well. I also found my blackberry. Guess there's lots to be thankful for. No cooking for me tonight. Hope everyone has a great day. Michelle
Morning Michelle! I'm in full blown Thanksgiving mode myself so it's Thanksgiving Thursday in this household also! :) And I too have so much to be thankful for this year, as in all years. It's been such a big year of change and despite challenges it's been terribly exciting. I feel blessed. Are you having family over for the big Thanksgiving Dinner? Congrats to Jason on tonight's ceremony! Glad to hear all the kids are doing so well and that you found your blackberry! (Where was it?) I've another busy prep day today. Need to get all packed up so we can head out first thing tomorrow morning. I'm making up a batch of Vegetarian Cocktail Meatballs today to bring along to the cottage for Benjamin. Making Pat's Oven Fried Panko Chicken for dinner along with a Potato salad which I have been craving for days now. For Benj Spinach Lasagna I woke up at 5 this morning (horrible time to wake up since there's not a lot of time left before you truly have to get up!) and remembered that I'd used the spinach up a couple of days ago that I had ear-marked for the lasagna so had to make a run to the store before Jim headed off to work! Hope everyone has a most wonderful day today!
Michelle, Thank goodness you found your Blackberry! Good luck to Jason on his Hall Of Fame induction tonight. Excellent that Laura, Sean and Dylan are doing so well sounds like you are on a roll! Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving weekend!
Tina, The very best of luck today and I hope you get that call today. I keep crossing everything for you. LOL Liv's party sounds like great fun with very cool ideas!
Den is off to his golf game it looks overcast and dreary but it is supposed to go up to 70F and they aren't calling for rain. I have to go get some things later on to avoid the last minute rush. Dinner will be meat pie out of the freezer a no brainer for me.
WOW Michelle! Lots going on with you all. And yes, lots to be thankful for. It is hard to remember that at times, for sure. Congrats to Jason! That's excellent.
Tina, I love all the Halloween food! Too fun. You should definately be a costume judge. : ) One thing we have done is put water in rubber gloves, freeze it, then have hands floating in the punch bowl! (Not rubber gloves like you clean with...probably not rubber...but you know, the kind you use in the kitchen when cooking). Anyway...it's a cool thing. But with you having meatloaf hands that might be too many creepy hands. lol Fun stuff. Love all the decorations, too. And woohoo on benefits starting immediately! That's unheard of...sounds like a great company. Fingers crossed.
Hi Janet and Joce! SP! I just hate to wake up like that, Janet! Nice that you had a chance to run to the store before Jim left, though. How did your ribs turn out? Busy busy day for you!! Hope everything goes smoothly!
Hi Joce! Good luck to Den in his golf game. Nice to have an easy meal ready to go. That's a good plan any time!
Lori, Love the bones, the pumpkin greeters LOL Howling Wings and Mummies Toes and Crunchy Mummies, Frankenstein treats how creative! Gee they all worked so hard making things the table setting looks awesome!
Hope Den has a really fun day today Joce. How did you sleep last night? Better? Meat pie sounds like a perfect idea for a overcast Autumn day! Great idea! Your dinner also sounds amazing Lori. YUM! The ribs were good but I won't make them again. I was a bit too heavy handed with the Asian Five Spice powder and they're also a tad sweet for us. Both Jim and I agreed that for the amount of times we treat ourselves to ribs, we'll stick to BBQ ones. :) But it is a nice recipe and for anyone who likes those flavours I'm sure they would love it. The white chocolate bones are cute. I saw something just like that on Pinterest and then they'd added a dollop of caramel icing on one end to look like ear wax. ROFL and EEewww at the same time! :) The other link is adorable. What a lot of work they went to hey? Love the skull and crossbones ice cubes! Really cute. You guys in the States have a Holiday this weekend too right?
Monday is Columbus Day. Banks and Govt offices will be closed, but that's it.
LOL and EEWWWW on the dirty q-tip treats! I'm going to make the frankenstein treats with the kids, I think. We were going to take them to see Hotel Transylvania Saturday afternoon, and let them spend the night...but...probably not, now. You've heard me talk about my best friends, Donna and Brenda...Brenda's daddy passed away last night. I'm betting that we will be at the funeral home Saturday.
So sorry to hear about Brenda's Father Lori. That's very hard. How old was he? I so want to see Hotel Transylvania. It has me written all over it! There's still plenty of time before Halloween so you'll be able to do your Fright Night with the boys another weekend. That will be so fun.
Lori, What an awful disease that is! My next door neighbour's HB has it along with Parkinson's. He has been in a nursing home for over a year now. He volunteered to be in an experimental drug program almost since the get go. He has actually improved a bit and Jeanne brings him home at least once a week and spends most of her days at the nursing home with him. I think he has fallen 18 or 19 times from the Parkinson's and not broken anything so far. God love her I don't know how she does it sometimes and neither does she. Her kids are just wonderful to both of them and they travel here from far away often to help out. Hotel Transylvania should be fun to see. I can't believe we are talking about Halloween already!
Joce thank you for the reminder about headaches and Sleepy Time Tea. IT WORKED AGAIN!!! I'm right as rain and was after I fixed myself a big pot last night.
Lori I sent that Mummy Bones recipe to my niece who with 4 little ones is always on the look out for fun, easy halloween treats like that. Especially if it is something her kids can work on with her. Pretty sure that qualifies.
Not sure about dinner tonight but I will work on that. Spent the morning working on an album of one of my first birthday parties in September. I got to go on a pontoon boat trip through the Butler Chain of Lakes. If you want to see make sure you turn your sound on.
Wow Laura! Thanks so much for sharing the video with us. That was Awesome! Your scenery is sooooo different than ours. It's so fun to see. What a lovely boat ride and a gorgeous day you had! Loved the tunes! I had never seen people on paddle boards before until when Michelle was visiting Ottawa and we saw them on our Rideau Canal. Was that April now? I forget. Maybe July? Argh. :( Very glad to hear your headache went away. I rarely get headaches but have been having one plague me since last night around 7 o'clock. I need some of your tea! :) I've had a productive morning. The potato salad is made, so are the Cocktail meatballs and an extra batch of caramelized apple topping for the butternut squash soup. And the Lasagna is done as well. After lunch I'll pack and prep the chicken. Called my Mom. She hasn't received the little Thanksgiving pkg. that I sent her yet but she's going in to get the mail tomorrow so I imagine it'll be there waiting for her. She is going over to my Aunt's to join in their Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday.
Laura, I am delighted I jogged your memory and your headache is gone! Loved your Birthday Cruise what lovely scenery and the music suited the video to a T. You did a bang up job it was great to watch thank you.:)
Janet, Have you taken anything for your headache? I don't get them very often either but I don't function very well if I do. LOL Michelle was in Ottawa in July! Wow you have been beyond busy even with a headache!!! Sounds like you might have to rent a truck to get all the food there! I hope Jim's Dad has an extra fridge or you have a bunch of coolers? Very sweet of you to send a Thanksgiving package to your Mom how nice is that!
It has turned out to be a beautiful warm day and I am pleased that it did for Den. It should be pretty on the golf course today with all the colours of Autumn in the background and the hills. I am pleased I went and bought what I needed today rather than tomorrow. Most of the things I needed were still on sale until the end of today and I was in and out without any hitches. You gotta love that. So now to decide on whether to make a pumpkin trifle, pumpkin cheesecake or what? I have all the ingredients for several things but not to worry I won't be making anything until Saturday.
LOL Joce! I'm glad you remember when I did stuff since I can't seem to! ROFL! I've taken three rounds of extra-strength Tylenol since it started. The last batch was a couple of hours ago. It's not a horrible, horrible one just a darn annoying one. I'm hoping one more sleep does it for me. Wondering if its eye strain and I should go get my eyes tested again. It's been a couple of years! :( I'm all packed up now I think, apart from the stuff I have to grab from the fridge and freezer right before we go. It's not too bad. There is an extra fridge in the basement at the cottage although the guys always try hog it for their beer. :) Priorities! :) Sounds like you had a good shopping trip and indeed Den will have had a lovely fall day out on the Golf Course. I give equal votes to Pumpkin Trifle or Pumpkin cheesecake. :) Keep forgetting to tell you how cute your avatar pic is!
Pork chops, homeade apple sauce and brocoli with cheese! yummy! thats whats for din din tonight. Rachels field hockey game got cancelled so I came home from Macy's to pick her up and now I don't have to go anywhere for the rest of the night YESSS! its sweat pants kind of day. Becca and her friend Livvie made peanut butter cookies, a recipe I have made before but for some reason the peanut butter was really greasy and they spread really thin. They enjoyed them but Rachel and I didn't think they were that great. I think they will be good crunched up in some vanilla ice cream so we threw the rest in the freezer. Tina, any word on the job yet?????
Did you know today is National Taco Day? I didn't but the Mr. Did and suggested Fiesta Pork Tacos for dinner. That will use up the pork roast I made on Monday. http://www.gone-ta-pott.com/national_taco_day.html
Glad you guys liked the video. Those are so fun to make and share.
Michelle, I know what you mean but truly there is much to be thankful for. Hope this evening is a grand one and pleased to hear your blackberry turned up!
Janet, you have been a busy worker bee in that kitchen of yours! Crazy to wake up at 5AM with the thought about spinach - I can relate to that kind of thing. I'm sorry the ribs weren't a hit with you two. I don't know if my friend Ashley makes any tweaks to Emeril's recipe when she makes them. I hope you get some relief from your head ache asap!
Joce, pleased that the weather turned out for Den today. I thought yesterday was National Taco Day? That is an interesting recipe, indeed. I came across one for green tomato cake over the summer.
Lori, your dinner sounds wonderful either way! Sorry to hear of Brenda's loss.
Laura, pleased to hear your feeling better and the headache is all gone. Good to know Sleepy Time helps! Thanks, Joce for that tidbit (I think it was you?). Love leftovers remixed like that.
Laurie, your dinner does sound yummy! Do you do your apple sauce in the crock pot? Glad you get to stay home and relax now.
It turned out to be a really nice warm, sunny day. Funny b/c they just switched our building over to heat. We have individual heat pumps in our units but the water that flows into them come from the main boiler/chiller and is either set to cool or heat. They usually wait for a period of consecutive days with cool/hot weather to do the switch and then here's today in the high 70'sF. Windows open, fans on, cross-breeze going. My friend Liz & I went to a market in Mexican Town (Southwest Detroit, very nearby) called Honey Bee to pick up a few items and then to Mudgie's Deli to pick up a "Leggo My Dego" sandwich to split with soup for lunch. When we got back we whipped up a batch of cheesecake stuffed apple muffins with streusel topping. Have roasted broccoli to put into quiche along with quinoa, cheddar cheese, green onions, and jalapenos. She went to get her hair cut & then is coming back. I'm trying out a recipe for chicken breasts with apple cider and caramelized shallots for dinner. I want to make creamed kale and braised potatoes and squash to go with but I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed by the lot so I'm taking a rest for a bit. I'm definitely doing the chicken but may rework the sides.
Nice that you actually get an evening to relax and have some down time in Laurie. Enjoy! Joce alerted us to National Taco Day this morning Laura. You must have missed her post. Yum on your dinner. Always love the sound of that Mudgie's Deli when you mention it Dahlia. Sounds like you had a very fun and very action packed day with your girlfriend. Those muffins sound amazing.
I GOT THE JOB!!! 4 day week, off Tues, Wed, Thurs. 1:30 to midnight, shift differential pay = more than I make now. Three days in a row off. Plenty of time to schedule doctor visits mid week. no more missing work for those appts. Training starts 10/15/20. 4 weeks. I have to fix supper quick. I'll be back to read up. Yes, I am thankful!! And grateful for the support. Hugs to all.......just leftover white chili.
WHOO HOO! I am SO happy for you. Wow Tina! You did such an awesome job. You were able to go out and get a new way better job before your old job even ended. You rock. You should be so proud of yourself! YOU GO!
Okay, Fred is settled in with his bowl of chili. my schedule sounds weird, but it actually works for me better. I'm usually up late anyway, going in at 1:30 I will avoid the crush of traffic entering the business center in the a.m. It is a hop/skip 20 minute drive home late at night. 4 day week avoids one day of gas usage. Fred is not his best in the evening and now I spend many nights listening to him snore or find him asleep when I get home. I avoid that huge aggravation. We would have mornings to plan stuff and I can fix his meals for dinner before I leave. In six months I can bid for a different schedule, but I am committed to this for the initial six. So, my selfworth has trebled in the last 3 days. I was so absolutely convinced no one would want me at 54 years old that I tolerated the abuse and hardships far too long. I turned down Bright House ($) and turned down AAA (time and $)and low and behold, something for more money comes up. The interviewer was most impressed that on the crappiest, ugliest day of rain and traffic, drenched and sopping wet, I still managed to interview with a clear head and coherent train of thought,. I go in tomorrow for fingerprints and photos at 1:30. Will go back to Broder on Monday and give them on week notice, if they want me to stay, I'll commit to helping transition my favorite customers, if they decide that is it, I'll come home and take a week off to relax. I"m not one to burn bridges, but I'm so tempted to let the HR head know how the inaccuracies and outright lies from the inept HR could have potentially been fodder for a discrimination lawsuit.
Now, I have to try those Asian ribs by Emeril. I'm still pondering how to make the black bat wings....Martha Stewart used black food coloring, that is not my cuppa tea. I think the black sesame seed on a deep red glaze reads more Halloween.
Halloween is a favorite...Tyler always had Halloween themed parties, he thought the Holiday was just for him and I preferred to let him feel that way. Bless his heart. Of course, he and I were a day apart and sharing our birthdays was always special. It is hard to believe he would be 25 this year......my beloved angel. I do believe Tyler has sending me messages and my series of coincidences are truly winks from God. And the timing of this gift of a job is truly Heaven sent.
Dahlia, that is a great menu...let me know how the creamed kale works out. Sounds wonderful. Laura, I'll have to copy that Sleepytime remedy for my bothersome headaches. Joce, Janet, Michelle....glad the plans are going full steam ahead for your t-day. Congrats to Jason again...!!! Such an honor. Laurie, thanks for the thumbs up. Glad you have a free night, you busy girl.
I'm getting into my jammies and putting on my Project Runway and flip through some unread magazines. Hugs to all. Bless you all so very much for the support. I can't imagine a day without you!!!
