Thormy Thursday

  • pointsevenout 14 years ago
The sky is probably going to open up sometime this morning. Going to try to get some fresh cherry preserves whipped up for some pancakes. Just don't need the power to go out during the middle of things. There is a big ol' red spot with plenty of lightening on the weather radar grinning our way.

    Stay safely inside, I say.

Today is Fred's doctor day. No coffee or food for him, stress tests and Echocardiograms, resting and IV images.

Charlie Brown has grown in four days. WHEW! He is amazing.

Yep, I tried to smoke at five. We lived across the street from Boyd Hill Nature Trail...they had a kid's play area with MH's Shoe, really big (well to a kid it was big) you could climb all over it and it was hollowed out on the inside, made of concrete. It was cool and shady inside. (also the scene of my first kiss, shhhh! I said I was a hellion) There were gnomes and dwarf statues, a teeter totter, a spinner, swings, all kinds of that sort of stuff as well as the alligators, foxes, turtles, peacocks and turkeys. Well, I swiped mom's cigs and lighter and took Jimmy and Tommy Boggs and we walked over to Boyd Hill and tried our first cigarettes. We were nabbed by the park ranger. (Hello!!! Smoke and coughing coming out of Mother Hubbard is a dead giveaway.) Smoking was "cool" back then. We got hauled home literally by one ear and told "never to step foot in the Park again." That is why I tell my daughter, no matter what she tries, I have done it already and done it better, wilder and crazier than she even imagined and she won't get away with it. ***I'm a lifelong member of Friends of Boyd Hill and I send a contribution each year to the nature reserve, guilt????***

Pulled out some skinny ribeyes from Angel Food from the freezer and will make Fred some psuedo "philly style" cheese steaks for supper. Jicama slaw with sour orange dressing. Pinnacle Peak Pinto beans in the crock pot to simmer all day.

Make it a good one, dear friends.

LOL Tina. You are my hero!

Looking stormy and rainy here, too.

Thanks everyone for letting me vent and cry last night, and for cheering me up, too. Better today, mentally, at least. Found a place in Knoxville that does custom made inserts for shoes, gonna call them today. Since I have one hip hgiher than the other, maybe it would make sense to get me in line? Might be better than buyer a few pairs of shoes with the right support...just put the inserts in all my shoes...

Bryan's last day of night shift, but, I think I'll cook tonight anyway. Hillary keeps trying to catch Harry Potter movie, it's always sold out though. I'm sure they'll try again tonight. (Good excuse to see other movies and go to the movies every night, I guess...lol). But, I think I'll come something anyway. Want some kind of pasta, or pasta in casserole. Not sure what, though. Something new. Hopefully will get a chance to peruse recipes today, or, I may just have a couple of drinks and see if the mad scientist will come out to cook for me!

    Happy Thursday!

Many happy returns to Mr. Lillian! Have a great dinner out.

Home between appts. Next one at 11:30---we bought our house to be close to the hospital for Tyler's sake, little did I know it would come in just as handily for Fred (cue the wry look on my face). Fred is starving from his "fast" So a quick bowl of cereal, some caffeine for me, walk the dog and then we are off again.

I was fearless as a kid. Really a huge tomboy and all my friends were the boys in the neighborhood....we played "Cowboys and Indians" and "Army". They were good buddies. I just got them into too much trouble with our adventures and not the trouble Points is thinking of~I was a prude, through and through :-). Jimmy cracked his head open trying to leap out of a moving van that we were playing in "cops and robbers get away". Then when mom and dad divorced, we moved to a new housing development and I found a new bunch of kids (all girls) to terrorize. We used to write our names in the cement pours of all the new houses and used the wooden ceiling joists that were strapped together as GIANT teeter totters. We would stand on one end and run like heck to the other end to make the whole thing rock back and forth. It was a miracle we didn't kill anyone. Had two major concussions that first year after we moved, fell out of huge oak tree playing Tarzan and landed on the road, ran my bike into a parked car?? and flipped myself over the windshield. Broke my elbow on the trampoline when I flew off into mom's orange tree (Irene and Ernie broke their noses on the springs of the tramp, too). Split my head open when i jumped off the seawall and had 27 stitches up the back of my head....my older sister brought me home in her bicycle basket, arms and legs dangling over the edges. Yep, our kid gets her disregard for convention genetically. It didn't help that Fred was a clown "high dive" artist in college. He even dove off the cliffs in ala Elvis in Acapalco.

NOTYO: I saw your cherries and cream recipe and was going to make it, but for a shortage of cream I did a Whole Cherry Preserves recipe by Chefmeow to go over some Cinnamon And Nutmeg Pancakes. My gums handled it very well and my stomach is grinning from kidney to kidney. Time to take a nap and dream out the window as the weather drips across the sky and drones me to sleep.

That's ok. You can keep your secret. Mother was a prude too but she sure knew her way around a bed. Had eight kids.

Aw, Donna, so sorry about Lipstick....."love" the name btw. We have "Jaws" who is quite a character as goldfish go, he ate all this tankmates, hence the name.

Fred said an emphatic "no" to jicama slaw...he wants the regular stuff. Where did his sense of adventure go? Glad I had a head of cabbage. Getting ready to saute some vidalias for the steak sandwiches. Don't have any peppers, don't feel like going out again. Long day. You know the story, the techs and ultrasound techs know how to take the pictures but they don't "interpret" so we really don't have any answers on Fred.

Ummmm, BLT's do sound really good.....have to get some good tomatoes, maybe at the Saturday morning market.

Why do cooking onions smell so outrageously good? Is it the butter or is it the onion, just a magical mix of the two?

Oozing licopene sounds better than oozing butter!!! LOL

So Fred has just told me my cole slaw is too sweet. Argh. After 26 years, you'd think he would have told me this before now. I've always made it with mayo, mustard, celery seed, sugar with some salt and pepper as the dressing. I do believe he is having mini TIA's. Things that he understood two weeks ago are completely foreign to him now and the personality changes are increasing. Very petulant and extremely recalcitrant. Only emotion we get is anger and let's just say "he's lost that loving feeling" The kid and I noticed it most over the weekend when reminiscing about Tyler and he didn't react at all. Nothing, no contribution to the conversation or mention of our boy. I'll better remember to tell his neuro. Add it to the list.

Better get up and check on those onions.

So freakin irritated at His Supreme Fatness! If I hear about how he pays all the bills and all we do is suck energy just one more time....And it's not me he is saying this to. It is the 14 year old. He wouldn't dare with me...but guess what? I'm gonna 'dare' and tell him exactly what I think tonight! Not only do I contribute with what money I get every month by chipping in on groceries and a bill here and there or when he needs a 5 or 10 and has no cash on him. He does nothing around this house! No cooking, no cleaning, doesn't even fold his own laundry! (well, I'm sure he will this weekend after I go off on him, lol) Oh and let's not forget...it is Jess that mows the lawn. And hanging out with the kids and having fun...well, only when he feels like it...which is hardly ever! And even then it is only what he wants to do...You know what would happen if I did get a job? I would end up working 2nd or 3rd shift somewhere, hardly ever get to see the kids and as far as them eating a good meal every night? Forget about it! Bowls of cereal and grilled cheese sandwiches....whoopee!!!!

I am so fed up! Can you tell? Thanx for the vent time. :)

So along with the silent treatment that I am doling out right now...I might just make some chili and he can get the frick over it! He doesn't like it, then head on out to dinner with your buddy like he has been known to do regularly while leaving us here.

Oh, Ang, I got horribly sick on maraschino cherries a long time ago and I can't even look at them without a violent shudder. Dad was out with on of his gal friends and they were trying to keep his little girls quiet and they fed us bowls of maraschino cherries to prolong their cocktail hour. He didn't keep her a a gf when I got sick on her lap. My mom thought that was prime retribution. I didn't think it was as funny as she did.

Corrine, I like your plan....if you don't like the way I do it, do it yourself, but around here it wouldn't get done.......

Cake and brownie mixes are my favorite shortcuts.....and heaven knows I don't make my own bread on a regular basis, just when I knead too. Refrigerated ravioli or frozen will suffice for me, too. Same with pie dough. And honey, as much as we like garlic bread......Texas toast is just great under a pile of pulled pork or chicken. It's all good. I just object when someone has a TV show based on reheating prepared goods then I'll jump on a soapbox. Check out the recipe for Hamburger master mix....it is a great budget stretcher.....beats the storebought by a mile in taste and expense. Hugs!

Ang, if your scanner has a digital camera slot, you can take your digital camera disc thingy and put it in and then download (scan) to it anything you want and then hook the digital camera port up to your computer and download from their. Oh hell, that sounds like a lot of work, but that's how I did my "old non-digital" photos to put them on my iphotos.

LOL Laurie, just yesterday when I told Brad we were having french dips for dinner, he said "you know what I miss, garlic bread." I said you mean like the kind you get at the store all slathered in that magarine and garlic in the foil package? and he said "no, real garlic bread". haha They want it all, but don't want to do it themselves!

OK...have got the pic to paint but am clueless from there...how do I change the file?

LOL, I guess maybe silent treatment does a bit of good...no cooking for me tonight. He was more than happy to get some sandwiches and bread bowls from Dominos. We will still have a discussion on the subject of just exactly who's roles are what, and no freakin guilt trips anymore! Good Lord, everyone knows just exactly how I have not been feeling well this week. Getting better but dayum. Don't need all that crap layered on top. Anyway, you guys have got to be the bestest shoulders ever! Thank you so much...ah, gonna tear up a bit...damn hormones!
    LOL

Meanwhile I have 2 freakin awesome dinners planned and meat thawing out for the weekend...maybe that is what spurred him? I dunno, but have calmed down a bit. I'm a Scorpio....don't push it!

JJM, it is an old pic...no slot thingie for it...just a scan into computer and crap I don't know what to do from there. It's in the paint thing now...just have to really look. My kid and her hacker friend (just kidding about the hacker part, but she is pretty good with computers) are out at the movies. So no help there. I know my sis#1 has done it but she is busy right now I'm sure...I will figure it out!

Glad things are calmer Ang. The site just told me I'm too long winded, I had this great story all typed out, after having logged in like 2minutes prior to typing, and when I finally got through, it told me I needed to be loggedin to do that, bucko! OMG! Just remember, when they are picking a fight, it's because the want to fight. Calmly going about your business, ignoring them without exactly giving the slient treatment, being coldly polite, worked really well when I ahd moved back in with the kids dad after I lost my job.

Luckily Bryan and I never fight. But, it's only been 4 1/2 years. We both married high school sweethearts the first time, (really nothing sweet about either of them) and both had 2nd marriages for the wrong reasons that lasted mere months. So, we don't want to make the same mistakes. He's awesome, but, one of his personality quirks is sarcasm. So, I can let it roll off my back most of the time. Those few times that I can't, or don't, I just quietly go about my business, and give him quiet, polite one word answers when I have to, and within minutes I usually have a kiss on the cheek and an I'm sorry. Can't belive I found this awesome guy on the internet...lol...could have been a real skeezer.

JJM - we all discuss more than dinner...conduct your business as you want. And I do believe that a boat describes a vessel that floats on the water...so you are correct! LOL Great pic, BTW,

LOL Laurie. Sounds like one of Bryan's jokes. Show him some of the recipes on here that are seriously awesome shortcuts, that everyone lvoes, and that sue jarred sauce! lol

Cherries are my favorite fruit, Points. Can't wait to see what you do with them.

Like that attitude Wynne. I'm the same way, if you are going to complain about how I do something, then be my guest - for all eternity! lol

Ok, don't mean to be giving anyone else the slilent treatment, but, the GR POlice will probably log me aout again since I'm still being long-winded. yeah yeah, I know...I've heard it all a million times. Never claimed to not be talkative...lol ; )
