Thumbtack Thursday

  • mommyluvs2cook 8 years ago
Morning! Not sure why it's thumbtack Thursday, so lets just all go along with it! Not too much on the agenda today. It's cold 43°, hopefully it warms up! Probably just gonna do some house work and I would like to get that granola made today for Bri's lunches, and after I told Michael that I was making it for her he said he would like that for his breakfast next week with yogurt as well, SO guess I'm making a double batch, and I need to buy more yogurt now lol.

Found this recipe for meatballs http://allrecipes.com/recipe/217899/mozzarella-stuffed-pesto-turkey-meatballs/ and I think I'm going to give them a try. I think the kiddos will like the gooey cheese in the middle of the meatball :)

Tina, Marie, hope to hear from you soon. Have a great day everyone!!

Thumbtack Thursday is as good a title as any, Michelle. Love the picture!

LOL on the sudden popularity in yogurt at your house! The mozzarella stuffed meatballs sound good. We had frozen, highly processed, Schwanns turkey pork meatballs last night, and I think I might just try making some. Their's are pretty good for store bought, though didn't care for some of the spices.

We went out to Cracker Barrel for breakfast this morning and I am waiting for Wayne to finish his chiropractor session. Had the usual breakfast fare -- eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, grits, hot coffee. He had a stack of pecan pancakes, which looked pretty good, esp. with their maple syrup. It is a long appointment so I am twiddling my thumbs while sitting in the waiting room.

Has anyone tried the Insant Pot pressure cooker. I succumbed to the hype and bought one. It arrived yesterday. is still in the box, but according to the FB group it is quite nice. Now that I have told all of you, I best get it out and use it. Ha ha

We sat up and watched an old Western movie last night, starring Fred MacMurray. The other night, Stagecoach was on, a 1939 ? John Wayne film. I believe the channel is TCM but we just got DirectTV and I am not as familiar with what they offer. I am addicted.

Cute name for the title, Michelle. It is 29 F here at the moment. Lol 43 F would be quite warm for us. Great idea making your own granola for lunches and Michael's breakfast. It will probably taste much better than the store bought stuff. How is Michael enjoying his new job so far? Those meatballs sound awesome and I am quite sure the kids will love them.
I think I am going to make a salmon souffle for dinner tonight with a salad and I am not sure what else I will serve with it yet.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Oops! SP Karen. I use a Presto Pressure cooker and love it. I am sure you will love your new one as well. Both your breakfasts sound delicious to me. I hope you don't have to wait too much longer for Wayne to be done his appointment.

good morning everybody! michelle that granola yogurt idea sounds very tasty! those meatballs sound yummy! i LOVE the thumbtacks! i used to buy quaker harvest crunch which was sort of like a granola. bet it'd be yummy in yogurt. will have to try remember to look for it and check out the label next time i get groceries.

nice on breakfast out karen. i've never had a pecan pancake before but i'd sure like to try one! that's quite the fancy appliance you bought. i've never seen those before. i googled it. looks like you can buy some fun accessories as well! will be fun to hear what you do with it.

salmon souffle sounds lovely joce. an elegant dinner for a snowy thursday.

i had a hair appointment this morning. it feels so much better. jim made us cheesy scrambled eggs for breakfast. we're going over to our neighbour's for coffee this afternoon.

Hi Michelle, lol at the picture---cute thumbtacks! I must have missed what recipe you use for granola? I keep meaning to make some, but keep forgetting to pick up some dried fruit. I love almond with dried apricots. It's 7 degrees Celsius here, which is 44.6F . And my gosh it feels very, very warm!!! Compared to the usual winter weather in this part of the country ;)

Hi Karen, lol, whenever I see someone talking about Cracker Barrel I think of the cheese brand here. We don't have a Cracker Barrel restaurant in western Canada. It sounds popular! I saw an infomercial for the insta-pot. But I can make some of the things they were making on tv in my rice cooker. I LOVE my rice cooker! :) Have fun cooking with it!

Hi Joce, wow a salmon soufflé, nice :) That sounds like our normal temp's too, but we have a Chinook right now, balmy 7C! Everything is melting, but of course making the roads slushy. But it's nice to see some of it melting! Short lived though, back to -9 on the weekend, haha.

That Ham N Swiss Loaf looks great Janet! I could eat one right now, yum!

Hi Marie, thanks for checking in :) Gosh, you sound very busy! Hopefully your year end stuff will be over soon, take care.

I kept Sophia home today, even though it looks like she's probably ok to go? She can't hear a darn thing though, she might have an ear infection or just a build up of fluid. We see the Pediatrician tomorrow. I trust her more than the walk-in clinic. I'll pick Colter up from his last exam at noon today, then make them go for a walk with me at the dog park. A nice long stroll to soak up the warm weather. Then I'll treat the kids to lunch on the way home somewhere. Gasoline Alley ( a famous strip along the highway near the dog park, it has gas stations, food, Costco, movie theatre, stores, you name it!) has opened up some new drive thru's and take out. I love Opa, so might go there for Greek pita wraps.

I hope everyone is doing well, have a great day!

We have eaten breakfast at the Cracker Barrel a few times Karen, although I do prefer the egg and I, it's closer and pretty good :) Let us know how that pressure cooker works out, I wouldn't mind one, but no room for it in my cabinets!!

Hi Joce, yes homemade granola is a plus in a few ways, taste better and WAAAYY cheaper too. The average price I saw at the store was $5 for a little bag that would only last a few days between the two of them. That's when I decided to make my own :) Michael really likes his job so far. He's worried a few people from other shifts might not take him seriously and give him a hard time when they get on days, mainly older one's that have been there longer than him. Yum on salmon souffle! I really need to get down to the fish market and stock up on seafood.

Yum on cheesy eggs Janet!! I need a haircut. Ham N Swiss Loaf sounds SO good :)

Hi Marie, glad you popped in to let us know you just busy :) Miss you too!!

No specific recipe for granola Shona, I'm about to browse around the internet and find one. I'll let you know what I decide :) I only have dried cherries, but apricots would be great in it!! It was probably best to keep Sophia home, just to be safe. I'm sure your pediatrician can let you know whats going on with her hearing. Sounds like you have a nice day ahead of you!

Just got home from the gym. I was really not in the mood to work out, had a slight headache. But now I am glad I went, feel much better! Ok, off to browse granola recipes :)

Home again. Still sniffling and such, but half of Missouri has colds so I am in good company. Aargh!

Janet, Cracker Barrel is a chain, often located near interchanges on the interstates, which has a pretty standard menu of normal, basic, home cooking. Their breakfasts are great, unless you order grits late in the day -- I had to send some back, which I rarely ever do, because it had set around all day and had a film hardened on top. Guess it depends on who is cooking / doing kitchen checks. Etc. They have a wonderful "gift store" that carries all kinds of interesting items -- saw a really cute tea pot and large tea cup that I loved but need like the proverbial hole in the head...LOL.

Shona, glad Sophia is feeling better. Good idea to check with the pediatrician esp. with her hearing being iffy. Like you say, it is probably fluid build up or such, but I agree it is best to be safe.

Michelle - I had a recipe for granola that came in an old (1970's) edition of the Mennonite cookbook, "More with less." It used Grape Nuts, oats, etc. and you could substitute at will. (I never use cereal of any kind.) If I can find it I will try to post the recipe. Haven't made it in a long time.

Marie, glad you popped in to say hi and let us know you are still in the land of the living. Now that we have a spell of warmish and sunny days ahead, there are lots of reasons to pop outside - if only to enjoy the weather.

Hi Joce. Hope the I.P. works out. I joined a group on FB and have been gearing up to try something new. They said, if I recall correctly (no laughs please) you could put a frozen roast in and cook it -- must check that out before trying it. Still looking for a pressure CANNER because I would like to can venison and pork so our freezer isn't overloaded.

Well, I don't think I missed any one - if so, hi there! Have a good day.

Michelle - the URL for the Mennonite recipe is http://www.rebecca-writes.com/rebeccawrites/2008/2/19/homemade-granola.html. It is really good and I like the fact you can vary it as you like.

Thanks Karen, I like that you can add anything you want, but give you the correct measurements!! Here is the one I made, it wasn't overly sweet which is what I was looking for since it will be added to sweet yogurt. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/231997/grandma-dalleys-honey-granola/ but used dried cherries instead of raisins.

Karen, I cook frozen roast beef all the time for a pot roast and it works out great every time. You can do that in a crock pot as well. It is much faster in the pressure cooker though. You should look for some recipes on Pinterest as well. I bet they have a full board of things to cook.

I will try the Pinterest board - there is a FB group also.
Will look at the AR recipe also. I usually make it less sweet also since we are supposed to be cutting down on sugar.

    Hello to all.
Been busy at work and home. Tax time and of course it's "Mom" to file taxes not only for grown up daughter but son still at home. Actually love doing that stuff! Strange, I know.
Dinner tonight is (yes, still working on it) bacon wrapped pork tenderloin and scalloped taters and small side salad. Good enough! Sorry Janet, no red cabbage tonight. So very tired tonight but the troops need fed!

    Sleep Sweet All...............as always...........
