Thursday's Chicken Feet

  • chuckieb 7 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! It's 0C/32F here in Ottawa. The sun is shining very nicely but my birdbaths and therefore also my hummingbird feeders are frozen!

I have a fun day ahead of me. Have a haircut appointment this morning then rushing to the other side of town to bottle wine with my girlfriend and then go out for lunch. We're thinking Sushi.

Close to the wine bottling place and the Sushi restaurant is that lovely huge Asian grocery store "T&T" so I want to head there afterwards and have a little shop. :) In the "Brodo" Cookbook that Jim gave me for my birthday there's a recipe for a Golden Chicken Stock that calls for chicken backs, necks and feet. I have never bought chicken feet before and I'm a little apprehensive about it, but hey......it'll also be kind of fun to try something new.

Made a delicious dinner last night. A teriyaki salmon with Sriracha sauce and then I did end up making an Egg Foo Yung dish on the side and I used up some of my packaged slaw in it instead of beansprouts. I added some onion as well and sauteed up the veggies before pouring in my egg mixture. It was really yummy and I'll totally do it again. I STILL have more slaw to use up though. :)

Wishing everyone a great day. I'm putting a pic of my dinner below as I'm quite proud of it. :) I uploaded the Salmon recipe to GR this morning already.

    Good Morning!

"Jeepers!" Janet ... 32 degrees. Let's mix the temp where I live and where you live and we'd have the ideal zone. The picture of your dinner looks great! The Brodo recipe will be rich in collagen, very good for the body. When you make it and if you like it would you please consider sharing the recipe. Always fun to have lunch with a girlfriend ... does she make her own wine?

Hoping Shona and her family are feeling better as Michelle's son Caiden too.

I too would love to see pictures of your raised garden bed when finished Karen. Sounds like it'll be nice. And "Jeepers" that Fritz ate one of Wayne's hearing aids. Fritz is in BIG trouble.

Lunch with my friend Genie at PF Changs yesterday was great! Haven't had Asian in a long time because DH isn't a fan so it was a real treat and it was fun to spend some time in the company of a girlfriend. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and another dish of Stir Fried Eggplant so I would have leftovers for later. My friend ordered a dish that isn't on the menu of Ground Chicken with Eggplant.

That's about all for today. Have class this afternoon and will stop someplace for something to eat after.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Ya, it's a little frosty alright Linda but the sunshine gives us hope. :) I'll totally share the Brodo recipe if it's a good one. Both my girlfriend and I make our own wine at this place. She's a regular but Jim and I only make a batch of red once a year to use in Summer Sangria. We've tried to make some white wine before but I do feel it's inferior to buying it. The red for the Sangria is fine because it's mixed with a can of Sprite and some fruit. :) Your lunch yesterday sounded great. I LOVE Kung Pao Chicken and wish I could find a good recipe for it. I'll have to pass on the eggplant though. My Mom made me eat it as a kid and I still have nightmares. :) Have fun at your class and out for a meal!

Morning!! Wine bottling sounds like a blast Janet, have fun today, yum on sushi! I checked out “Brodo” after you had mentioned it a couple days ago and it seems like a neat cookbook! Kind of had me wanting to go on a bone broth diet lol, but I think I would miss the texture of food haha. Let us know how the recipes turn out! Do you just ask your local store’s butcher for the necks and feet of a chicken? Your dinner last night looks delicious! Will have to check out your recipe :)

Aww..thanks Linda, Caiden went back to school today per doctors orders. He was coughing a bit this morning, but the antibiotics should have done what they were supposed to, hopefully! Glad your lunch out went well yesterday, I have never been to PF Changs surprisingly, even though there is one about 15 minutes away from me. I heard it’s really good though!

Have a bunch of laundry to do today, as well as washing sheets, every time a kiddo gets sick, I feel like the house get sick lol, and that I need to wash and vacuum everything I can. Forgot to mention that yesterday was Michael’s birthday, so I ended up making him a batch of his favorite Yummy Banana Bars and we had a mini birthday celebration with us 4 :)

This evening is busy, we have pitching lessons, then the last game with her league team immediately after. If we win we will get second place, if we lose we get third, so it’s a very important game! Wish us luck! Have a great day everyone :)

My wishes extended for Good Luck Michelle!! and H.B. to Michael, the Banana Bars look great.

It's said people are drinking bone broth in place of coffee/tea, any beverage for that matter. If it's a really good broth I would sip on some at some point of the day. Especially mid-afternoon instead of a snack.

Very cool on making your own wine Janet. Love Sangria! Goes down very easy then "BaM!", it hits you. I know I have to be careful when drinking it.

Good morning--(well it's morning here out West ;)

Yikes on the cold snap Janet! Hopefully there's no snow in your forecast! Enjoy your day out, you're brave for trying the chicken foot broth!!

Thanks Linda, I'm home alone--everyone else is at work or school, thank goodness! The ventolin is really helping me, I'm still coughing up a lung but I suppose that's a good thing. I'm starting to get a little more energy as well :) I love Kung Pao chicken, as far as I know we don't have a PF changes in Western Canada? Enjoy your class!

Hi Michelle, sorry Caiden is sick. It's a good thing you caught the strep throat. A little boy died here recently from an undiagnosed strep infection. The parents thought it was a flu and kept him home. Sometimes people forget that infections can be deadly--it's so sad :( I do the same thing after someone is sick, I get a little crazy with the Lysol and wipe everything that has been touched! Happy Birthday to Michael! Those bars do look yummy!! Saved! GOOD LUCK with the game tonight!! Go Bri! :)

Nothing on the agenda today, just resting still and taking care of Jersey. She seems a little better, no more blood at least! She's on antibiotics for two weeks then we check her urine again. I'm starting to think with her age that pet insurance might be a good thing, will look into prices!
Probably chicken quesadillas for dinner, or grilled burgers if the weather is ok. It looks windy and a little dreary outside this am. The rain has turned our brown grass green, and the trees are leafed out--Love seeing colour outside now!

    Have a great day everyone!!

Happy to hear your feeling a little better Shona and wishing Jersey a full recovery. Be careful with pet insurance ... I looked into it once, they have "caps" on most everything and I figured I'd be breaking about even for the cost of it vs. what I'd pay a vet for if I had to take my dog in, if dog doesn't go in for anything then they are ahead. Maybe things have changed, just read the "fine print".

    Hi everyone.

Yay on the wine bottling, Janet. I have not tried that but it sounds like fun. Brrr! on temps. It should hit in the high sixties or low seventies today and sunny. You are braver than I making the chicken feet broth but I am interested in the outcome! Love hearing about the unique recipes you discover!

Linda, Fritz is dozing o my lap after chasing Mel all morning. The cat decided he had had enough and has slapped him twice already. Fritz is a determined terrier mentality and will not give up. Poor Mel! Yes, Fritz is always in BIG trouble.
The only Korean dish Wayne likes is Bulgogi....he does like the Bam Bu Restaurant (Vietamese) in Springfield because they have a wonderful Vietnamese style fried rice combo. Enjoy your Asian eating experience.
I don't have pet insurance on any of our critters. I would consider it if we had high tech, valuable horses, but ours are simply elderly pasture pets. We are long standing customers at the vet's!

Michelle, glad Caiden is on the road to recovery and back to school. I too am surrounded by laundry. Our washing machine keeled over ... code was for a drainage problem. Wayne and his buddy played around with it and so far it is draining, but we think the pump is going out in addition to the problem with the hearings. Repairman is coming Monday. Wayne will be gone so I will have to deal with it. Hopefully it is not too expensive!

Shona, take it easy and don't do too much yet. Hope Jersey is improving. Did you say she was 10? That is old for dogs, esp. if she is a larger one. I forgot what breed she was.

The blocks for the garden surround are stacked in the barnyard and we have to pick up the rest of the needed supplies sometime. The guys are working on the carriage house siding today..looking better every day. I am not holding my breath that it will be completed by planting time. Ha ha ha! More likely next spring. By the time we are ninety things will be almost like we want! Maybe! Will take a picture and post it whenever we finish the project.

I LOVE broth Michelle and like Linda, I think it'd make for a lovely snack. Obviously you could add bits to it to make a soup or use it to make soup recipes. Again, as Linda mentioned, the collagen in the chicken feet is supposed to be very nutritious so I thought it'd be fun to try it out. Plus, chicken feet are fairly inexpensive. I went to T&T which is our giant Asian grocery store to buy them. They sell all that kind of thing. They had huge beef bones, pork tail bones, duck's necks (which I also bought) and all manner of things. Hope Caiden made out fine back at school today and is on the road to recovery. Belated Happy Birthday to Michael. Good Luck at the game tonight.

No snow in the forecast as far as I know Shona. The chicken feet actually don't look as gross as I was expecting them to. :) Glad to hear you're feeling a little better and I agree, don't overdo it. Just continue to relax for a bit. Glad Jersey appears to be getting better as well. Nice on the green grass and leaves! Love the sound of both the burgers or the Quesadillas!

I suspect you'd be on a pretty good basis with a vet with all the animals you have Karen. :) Ugh on the washing machine troubles.

Had a nice lunch. I had Tempura Sweet Potato sushi and Avocado sushi with spicy sauce. It was nice and fresh. Had a super fun shop at the Asian grocery store. Bought a bottle of Tamari that I've been looking for, some frozen Chinese steamed buns, and a fun pkg. of frozen veggies used in Tom Yum soup, galangal, lemongrass, lime leaves, and chili peppers.

yes Janet we are well acquainted with the vets office. He literally saved the life of our first dog in Missouri, when we moved here in 1990. Shadow developed infection after a different vet had spayed her. He told us later that she would have died that night if we had not brought her in right away. She lived to be be 12 years old. That seems to be the upper age for bigger dogs although some have made it longer.

We have a small Korean market here but it does not have more than basic stuff. Springfield would be a possibility, I guess. There is a good size Japanese market and a small Asian one there which we have patronized, on the few occasions we needed something unusual to American markets.

We are going out to eat tonight when we mail a letter and pick up a few things at WalMart / Lowes. See you later. Fritz needs a walk.
