Thursday's Turmeric Chicken

    Good Morning Everyone!
Bon Voyage Laurie! :) Have a blast in Jamaica MON. :)
Love your fish fillets with browned butter sauce Sumac idea Tina! You handled your "Precious" ordeal with much grace and finesse. It's a shame more people don't follow your example. Hats off. AND WHAT ABOUT THAT GAME????? OMG! That was a good Hockey Game. Jim and I headed to bed after the third period but PVR'd the overtime and watched it this morning with our morning coffee. I am cheering for Tampa Bay against the Rangers. Was worried about them in the first period and then they came out with guns blazing and then the Rangers tied it up! Incredible! And both teams have exceptional goalies so scoring 5 and 6 goals on each of them is quite impressive! A Hat-trick is when a player achieves three positive feats during one game, so in Hockey that is three goals in one game. And then to applaud that player, fans throw their 'hats' on to the ice. (Always wondered what became of them and Logo ball caps are pricey!!!!) Please pass Liv's share of the White BBQ sauce over to me. I'll take care of it in a second. :)
    Michelle, you must try Joce's
    Wonton Rounds Topped With Mushrooms
They are awesome! But do go get lime as it really adds to it. Plus the Turmeric Chicken with Sumac and Lime was also very tasty. A different flavour than we are used to, but very yummy. I'd been worried about pouring 3/4 cup of water over the chicken to cook it (was thinking boiled chicken Bleck!) but because of all the spices and the garlic it was not watery at all. I had to cook it for longer than the recipe called for until it was done, but....
    http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2013/04/turmeric-chicken-with-sumac-and-lime-from-the-new-persian-kitchen-recipe.html
I include a pic below and I wrote up the Wonton rounds in IMI.
Shona, how's Jersey and the kids today? How are you feeling?
Michelle B., you are KILLIN' me with those fabulous pictures in Korea. What interesting architecture!
How did the guys make out with the carriage house Karen? You'll have to take a picture for us to see when they're all done.
Marie, how is it coming along with the septic?
Joce? What have you been up to?
Gonna make a Spatchcock Chicken on the BBQ this evening and use the new Piri-Piri rub I bought. Shall do some weeding and trimming that I didn't get to yesterday afternoon.
    Wishing everyone a fantastic day!

Good morning Janet:) The septic company we chose cannot get to the job for a few weeks..all the companies are busy! Sigh..we are limiting our water draining into the septic..I have big bowls under the faucets (I would anyway since we're in such a drought) and Rick rigged up my washing machine so it drains into a large plastic garbage can (it's a recycle can, not used for garbage!) so we can use the water to water plants....needless to say, I won't be doing laundry as often as I usually do..haha

I'll be going to Chico to drop off my sister's BD present..we always give her cash so she can buy whatever her heart desires:) Rick just left to install a door/opener in Chico, we'll be going to Sac tomorrow for doors/openers etc...I dread that trip, but we do enjoy making it together:) We like to stop for breakfast and coffee on the way:)

Well, not a clue what we'll have for dinner! Janet, your Chicken Parmigiano was soooooo very good..I adore that recipe..we had plenty for leftovers as well:)

Have a lovely day all! Talk when I get back:)

That's too bad the Septic company can't get you fixed up earlier but it sounds like your'e making out fine and recycling all that water is a good thing, so...Have a nice visit with your sister and a good drive to Sacramento tomorrow if we don't see you before then. Glad you enjoyed the Chicken Parm. :) Saw on the news about that oil spill from a ruptured pipeline off the coast near Santa Barbara. Breaks my heart.
Am going to try sumac in a salad dressing this evening to go along with the chicken.

I have the windows open and my fingers are cold. It's warmer outside in the sun. :)

Janet, the company we are going with is $1000 less that the others so that's probably why he's so busy..Rick has known him for years as well and done work for him..maybe that's why we seem to be getting a little break on the price;)

Yes, that frickin oil spill..I worry so about what it does to the ocean life..I just signed a petition for stricter regulations on these oil lines..this should NEVER happen:(

The salad dressing sounds delish ! OK, gotta run!

The game was fantastic, Having my daughter scream at the TV was even fun. She said some words I've never heard. I did catch a few "that was icing" and "piss poor passing". She told me a hat trick was when the shooter spun around in a circle and got the goal from the other side. Then she grinned an evil grin.

She went off to work with a chicken wrap. I'll have one myself later. My orange butterfly came to visit lighting on the swing and barbecue. It has been here several days in a row. I had a cardinal visit yesterday. Today I had a crow, and a mocking bird and heard a woodpecker. There was a squirrel absolutely frozen on a branch, he did not move anything. I think he was avoiding the dogs barking at him.

Marie, How horrible about the oil spill. These oil companies prize profit over safety, that is for sure. Good for you on the recycle water project. If only others would do the same.
A busy season for septic repair. I am so glad I did the a/c replacement before our temps hit 90F everyday.

Pool man is here, he is working on the filter again. Tom is good.

Take care everyone. I'll be back.

LOL @ Liv's hockey information. Sounds like you both enjoyed the game. It is addicting! :) Was your orange Butterfly a Monarch Tina?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarch_butterfly
I've had a swallowtail around our yard the last couple of days. Butterflies are so pretty.Sounds like you have a lot of action going on in the yard. Yay for Tom!
Just called my Dr. back re: my mouth surgery. Looks like I'll actually have this prosthetic palate for about two months. Darn. :( Guess I'd better get used to talking funny and eating weirdly. Darn.

Oh no Janet! Does that mean you'll have to have a liquid type diet, or maybe just soft foods for 2 months? When do you go for surgery?
Hi Marie! Ugh, there was an oil spill just off the coast of Vancouver Canada last month, they have always parked these two oil tankers there for as long as I can remember and one of them spilled. I didn't even realize they still carried oil. My Mom sent me a petition to sign to better protect our oceans.
Lol Tina, I wouldn't even know if Olivia was kidding either. I know nothing about hockey. Even after working at GM place (where the Canucks play their games) for a few years you'd think I'd pick up things. My mom is a crazy Hockey fan, and my brother, but I can't even be in the same room with them, especially if their team is losing! lol ;) Cute on the animals visiting, love that part of Spring!
Jersey is doing better, a lot better. She can walk around the yard now, but she won't step over the little threshold from the deck to the house. And stairs are hard. But it's progress! The pain seems much better too. I had to put the cone on her head because she try's to lick the wound, so I take that as a sign of healing if it's itchy. Sophia went back to school this morning, finally! Colter is still home sick. Knock on wood I am ok so far, I had a great sleep last night as well. Pete slept in the spare room with Jersey so I could rest.
I have some Pork Loin chops to cook up, haven't found a recipe yet. When I bought everything on the weekend I had some meal plans, but can't remember now! lol;)
Allrecipes sent us Allstars a great gift, from a company outside of Vancouver called Missing Ingredient. It's mostly Local, Small Business, Farmer, type fare that's ethically run. Love that. If you sign up you get a monthly box of food that's enough for a couple meals, with condiments, recipe cards, chef tips etc. http://missingingredient.ca/
I just opened my box, I got a bag of Farro, a bottle of BBQ Sauce, 3 tubes of Red wine Shallot reduction (like a tube of tomato paste) A bag of herbs for a rub (smells divine), A jar of Tomato, Olive and Ouzo sauce and a bag of roasted Chick Peas. There's a recipe for Greek Ratatouille with chick peas and Prawn Saganaki . AR gave us a list of recipes from their site to use the ingredients on, the Missing Ingredient has some sponsored recipes on there too. We just get the one box, this is our practise sponsor recipe, to see how us Canadian Allstars do in this assignment. I'll have to find a recipe to make for that later this week or next week.
    Have a great day everyone!

I had the surgery a week ago today Shona. The instructions said soft food for 3-5 days and that has passed so I guess I'm allowed to eat steak or whatever now. The trickiest things to eat are really hard things like apples. I sure wish ice cream didn't have so many calories and frozen yogurt, although nice, just doesn't cut it when I'm whiny. :) I used to be exactly like you re: hockey when I was first married but then I switched over to the dark side and now I'm just like your Mom and drive other people crazy especially if the Sens are losing. LOLOLOLOL. It truly does sound as if Jersey is making very good progress. That's great to hear. Glad Sophia is all better and hope Colter follows suit soon. How very fun on the Monthly box of food with condiments and recipes. That's awesome! I've been hearing a lot about Farro but haven't tried it yet. Wow on the red wine shallot reduction. So neat!

Hi everyone. Have tried to post once and had so many interruptions it was impossible! Was going to have chicken tonight but we're invited out to Wayne's buddy's home for supper. I made banana cupcakes for dessert and since there was some batter left I put it in a small baking dish and they can sample it now. Cupcakes are off limits. Ha! Will likely frost them with chocolate frosting or maybe just confectioner sugar!

Marie, you seem to be doing well managing the drought. Several years ago we had one, not as bad, of course, but it was a royal pain. Good idea using "gray water" to water plants, etc.

Glad Jersey is improving, Shona. Sending healing vibes for Colter! There are stomach flu bugs making the rounds here. No fun! You're all star box sounds intriguing, for sure.

I guess I am not a hockey fan, Janet. No sports inclination at all! But am glad you enjoy the game!

Hi, Tina. Hurray for the pool dude!

Battery is Dow to ten percent so goy to scoot. Can't plug it in while kittens are rampaging or Mauser attacks the cord to the iPad!

Hi all! Yes I've already made and ate Wonton Rounds Topped With Mushrooms for lunch alongside a salad :) SO GOOD! I'll put add to your review in the IMI later. So glad to hear the chicken with the sumac turned out well, I'll have to make that one too! I have made a piri piri chicken before, it was a recipe from this site, I'll have to try and find it. That salad sounds good.

You sure are doing good saving water Marie, what clever ideas! Hope they can get to you soon. Have a good time visiting your sister :)

Very cool that you are having so many critters visiting you Tina :)

So glad to hear Jersey is doing so much better Shona. My goodness on your sick kiddos! Cool on the food box, it has some interesting ingredients in there!

Have fun at Wayne's buddies house this evening, banana cupcakes sound yummy!

Had a bunch of errands to run this morning including refilling the soda stream thingy. I think it's about to pour down rain here. It's dark and windy. Good my garden needs it and I don't want to get out the water hose lol! I pulled out my langostino (a cross between a crawfish and a lobster) and am going to make Langostino Rolls for dinner tonight, I have never had langostino, but am excited to try it, reading stuff online people raved about it! Hope everyone is enjoying their day!

Wow on the Langostino rolls Michelle. I'm jealous! Looks like I had that Peri Peri chicken recipe bookmarked already. :) And it's just me spelling it wrong. It is peri peri. LOLOL.

I just realized that I had not read all of yesterday's post! Tina, good you booted the yard guy. I think I would put a lock on the gate or something...??? Maybe one you can operate from inside. Good, quick thinking for sending flowers, and esp. for paying the vet bill ASAP! Good luck keeping dogs off the furniture --- I am going to toss blankets over the LR furniture to keep it from Mauser's potty training problems. They are locked up for now, don't want to have any extra cleaning!

Dinner is grilled pork steak or did he say chops? Steaks I think. Fried potatoes. Salad. He has some help. A woman who he did a favor helping with her goats, is helping him with electrifying his fence, since he doesn't want his horses getting out on the road at night, esp. the black filly! So she is helping with dinner. She is about our age, very nice and friendly. I sprinkled XXXX sugar over the cupcakes and added choc. chips to the batter.

Just noticed the extreme IPad spelling errors on my post above. Ay-yi-yi.

    See you all later.

Taco salad for dinner sounds excellent Marie. Such summery food. Gotta remember to add that to the menu once it warms up a bit. It's going down to 7C/44 overnight with a high of 11C/51F tomorrow afternoon. Seriously? Brrrr...Rick made a good choice for his birthday dessert! :)
