Thursday's Turophile

  • chuckieb 8 years ago
Good Morning Everybody! Yep....I'm grasping at straws this morning trying to think of yet another "T" word for Thursday's thread. :)

Turophile:A person who loves cheese, taken from the Greek words for cheese (turos) and loving (philos).

I am a Turophile. :) I'm actually hoping to be able to pop in to Nicastro's Deli in the Byward Market today. Jim is meeting a friend for lunch down town and I'm going to drive in with him and do a bit of shopping and have lunch on my own. Nicastro's has a gorgeous cheese and deli section and I'd like to pick up some fresh Bocconcini to go with some ripe cherry tomatoes in my garden, some prosciutto, etc. to make up a little nibbly plate. :)
When we were at my girlfriend's cottage this past weekend she made up this super yummy Shrimp Vermicelli bowl for lunch with lettuce, thai basil, etc. I'm going to try replicate it for our dinner this evening.
A teeny bit cooler here today with a high forecast of 28C/82F.
    Wishing everyone a grand day!

LOL I love the name of the thread today, Janet. I can use it when I am playing crosswords on Words with Friends on FB. I love cheese and Nicastro's Deli too! Love the cute saying and your other pics as well. Congrats on selling the patio door too! Enjoy your jaunt around the Market today and I hope you can replicate the Shrimp Vermicelli bowl for dinner tonight. It is raining here and yes I hope the rain cools things off even just a little bit.
I want to go the our Butcher's Shop today and pic up some St. Albert's Swiss Cheese and their sliced rare roast beef for my lunch. LOL I know I won't leave there with just that b/c they have such lovely natural organic meats and other things.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Ate at Waffle House this morning, then went picked up flea treatment for the cats and stopped by the courthouse to check on a robo call sent saying he had jury duty and to report at 8:30. It was a gliche and the entire county got the call. Aargh! He is at the Dr.'s office to see about the infected toe. So I curled up in the lobby and am waiting until he is seen and out.

Love cheese, Janet and Joce. A plate of cheese, prosciutto, and veggie slices is perfect for a hot day lunch.

    Have a great day!

Got out and mowed a bit more of the lawn. (Feeling productive!) :)
Send some of that rain here please Joce! It'll save me having to go around with my watering cans! Have fun at the Butcher Shop.
Yum at Waffle House Karen. Goodness at the entire county getting a jury duty call. LOL. Hope Wayne makes out well at the Dr.'s. Must be so uncomfortable.

Don't worry, Janet it is going to rain Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday! Nice for our long weekend eh!
I would love a waffle, Karen. Was it crowded at the courthouse with all the people it called? I would be a bit ticked off if I took the day off for that! Poor Wayne he has had so many painful things lately:( I hope the doctor can make him feel more comfortable.

Dr. appt. at the podiatrist went well - he thinks it is inflammation instead of infection and gave him RX to begin taking along with antibiotics. He is outside starting to mow the field. If he gets done early enough will go together to pick up RX, otherwise I will have to go in myself. I have one to pick up, also. Courthouse only had a few people - most had called in, I guess, or ignored the call. It was weird, not even saying where to report! Crazy phone system!

i have to flea treat kitties today or tomorrow. lots of laundry to do. It is piling up like mad.

As usual, no WAFFLES were ordered at Waffle House. Hahaha! I had my usual Grits-Scr. eggs-Bacon-raisin toast-COFFEE. Wayne had a ham and cheese omelet, hash browns, toast, bacon, coffee. I am in sun room but A/C is not on so will probably go back in LR and get some work done. Not hungry for lunch after that huge breakfast.

It is NOT hot outside. Not steaming like a sauna. So nice. Temps will rev up tomorrow again. No rain for at least a week. Maybe we can get the hay done. The Amish guy who wants to bale more decided the heat was too much for his horses, he only has one pair of work horses and they seem a bit young yet. I think he has a buggy horse also, don't really know which animals were his and which belonged to other guys who were helping.

Have a good day. See you later.

They are indeed forecasting thunderstorms Joce but whether or not we'll get them we'll see.
Glad Wayne got some meds. It can't be nice out mowing fields with a sore toe. I haven't had raisin toast in a while and I love raisin toast.
    Tina? Hope you're okay GF.
Michelle, are you baffed now from being on vacation? :)
Hope the fires have died down in your area Marie.

Hi everyone! Just got back from running around down town with a friend. We went to Trader Joe's, Central Market, and Whole Foods. Picked up a bunch of specialty sausage and stocked up on all my Paleo stuff. They had lamb sausages that sounded interesting so I picked up those, hope we like them! Okay off to figure out dinner and load the dishwasher, hope everyone is having a great day!

Had a very fun jaunt down town. Tons of tourists out and about. Did a bit of shopping and got some new p.j.'s and things then went for lunch at a really super fun Mexican place called Ahora's.
    http://www.ahora.ca/
Had a DELICIOUS Steak strip Tostada Salad served in a tortilla bowl and a glass of Sangria.
After lunch I had just enough time to have a good shop at the Italian Deli and scored big time treats for the weekend. Porchetta, prosciutto, some boccoccini, a mini loaf of rosemary, garlic bread, some Grand Padano cheese, a box of gourmet sage flavoured pasta and a little bottle of olive oil spiked with chili peppers.

Sounds like you made some fabulous finds today Janet! Everything you got sounds awesome. I'll have to Google that cheese though. I picked up some fresh feta and cotija and some mascarpone that I plan on using in one of Keni's recipes to substitute cream cheese. I read its a good sub. Also found a new vegetable to me called "broccoflower". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broccoflower
I thought it would taste like a cross between broccoli and cauliflower but it just had a mild cauliflower taste. It was fun though and pretty :) Got some beautiful heirloom tomatoes and some beets that I roasted up tonight as well. Also found some organic palm oil at TJ's that is supposed to be really healthy. You can just use it in place of olive oil while sauteing, or rub it on your skin to lighten scars and stretch marks and even rub it in your hair, leave it in for 30 minutes, then wash it out leaving your hair silky and soft. I'll report back on how great it works :) Good night everybody, sleep tight!

I'm leaving town. So in the dumps...it is our anniversary and the memories in this house are choking me. I hope to be back either Mon or Tues. Fingers are a hideous shade of black. I have books, a hotel room with a/c, no dogs, no strife with Olivia. I need a break badly. Time to reassess my life.
