Time After the Storm Tuesday

  • MissouriFarmWife 6 years ago
    Good morning .

It is o-dark-thirty on a quiet Tuesday morning. I am in the sun room, woke up early and decided to let Wayne sleep.

Last night we took GS home from his first swimming practice after an entire week. He swam about an hour then put on a theatrical act of huge proportions, claiming to have a headache which he was not certain was a migraine. Hmm. Clue number 1 - he knows migraines from normal headaches. Clue Number 2 - he was unsure if he was hungry, but would make a Nutella sandwich at home.

Well, we caved, and stopped by daughter's work. Her diagnosis was he was fine and "faking it" was highly probable. She does not work tonight and she informed him he was NOT leaving early tomorrow.

While eating at Crow Creek, lightning hit close by and knocked out the lights. Hail pounded the roof. It was pitch black. They came on again right away, probably a backup generator. When we finished eating, the storm had passed by, but we took him home and made sure he had lights before leaving.

The outage covered the area from Big Piney to Edgar Springs. My neighbor who lives to comment on Facebook had posted in spite of the power outage. Some time last night it came back on. With the whole house generator going, we had power except the yard light and outbuildings.

We didn't get one rain drop. Sigh.

    Have a good day.

LOL @ O dark thirty Karen. I thought your GS LOVED swim lessons? Oh dear at the bad storm. Wow that you got not a drop of rain out of it though!

I was up at a proper time this morning. The top thing on my to do list today is to find a pair of slacks to wear to the wedding Saturday. Talk about leaving it close eh? LOL! I have a nice gold top and jacket and some nice brown shoes with a buckle, so if I can get some brown pants to tie it together I'm laughing. I may also look for a shawl or pashmina as well in a brownish tone. Wish me luck.

Haven't decided what to do for dinner yet.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning Everyone.

Had to get up and out of the house early for routine bloodwork. Since I pay an "arm and leg" for insurance I'm going to make sure I use it. I was bad and wrote in another lab I wanted ran, won't my doctor be surprised. Either that or he will think he ordered it (LOL!). I had talked to him about adding a Ferritin lab to test for excess stored iron and he just blew me off so I looked up the code myself on the internet and wrote it in. The girl checking me in asked who wrote the Ferritin request in and I told her a nurse ... Since my doctor isn't too good at listening it'll be time to find another who will work with me. I have the right to know what I want to know about myself and if it means running a lab or test then it will be ran and if I don't have your support then I will find someone else. It's not an unreasonable request.

Wonder why GS didn't want to be a swim last night Karen? He usually enjoys it. Wow on the storm and then after all that not to get one drop of rain.

Good luck finding what you need for the wedding Janet. You should be able to find brown slacks ... it's a Fall color.

ROFL @ writing in an addition on your lab tests Linda. Unfortunate that he was adverse to doing it in the first place. I adore my Dr. and we've had her since we moved to Ottawa and if I have any concerns at all she's always very proactive.

We still have some Pork Schnitzel in the fridge we can eat up for lunch so we've decided to just go easy tonight and have bean with bacon soup and toasted turkey sandwiches for dinner this evening. Easy peasy. Jim is going to work at finishing the rock garden at the front of the house.

Hi again. GS still did not want to exert for fear he re injured it. Plus he did not want to do the land exercises. He still loves swimming but the land line exercises bother him . He is slender build and is with a College guy and older teens so it bruises his ego a bit when he is not as good as he was. Life is rough. Swim on. He just turned 13 and is suffering from teenage-itis.

Good luck wedding clothes shopping Janet. Your outfit sounds lovely.

Ugh on the lab testsLinda. Agree a different doctor is the way to go.

Hi all:) It's been an interesting 24 hours..a wild fire started on the other side of the canyon yesterday afternoon...up the hill towards Paradise. They had the main road to Chico closed, called Skyway Road..and there was another closure, Neal Road, so if you had to get down the hill, there were 2 other roads that would take you quite far from Chico..they have mandatory evacs in order for lower Paradise...it's only at around 100 acres so far but the fire jumped Skyway last night...as it stands now Skyway is open coming up the hill only, Neal Road is open, Rick had a couple of jobs in Chico and took Neal this am early...also our cell service is out I called our service co and they said the fire caused cable breaks and they were working on bypassing the cables ..he called me from his cell phone (there was service at the end of Neal) and said he was at a standstill after an hour or 2 of trying to get to Chico ...I had a dental appt in Chico which I had to cancel..but he decided to go ahead and work today...I told him he could reschedule, but no..bet he's rethinking that decision...so I'm staying put today...keeping tabs on the fire and making sure it doesn't get out of control and head our way....sigh

Karen , oh dear on the lightening and hail storms! We are going to get a generator soon I think..been debating it, we never had a real reason, but our weather has been so crazy lately, we think we may have one heck of a Winter....

Good luck finding wedding wear Janet!

Linda, I cannot believe what u have to pay for medical insurance...I wish they (the government ) would come up with a plan for everyone that is good and affordable!

We'll grill some mango chicken sausages for dinner, have some nice rolls to use as hot dog buns...

Joce, I still have Mom's tuna casserole in the fridge!!!!! Not going to Chico today..don't know if I'm going tomorrow..we may be having a tuna casserole feast the next few days:)

Lol at GS faking it Karen, it is understandable how he feels though being at his age around all the older kids. Briauna will be 13 in Feb. so we are are starting to go through all the "changes" as well :\ Wow on the storm and power outage!

Good luck finding the rest of your outfit for the wedding Janet! I think your great on your timing lol, at least it’s not Friday haha! Yum on soup and sandwiches :)

Go you on writing in your own lab test Linda, ROFL!!! I can’t believe you figured that one out, and that they don’t realize you did it :P :P It’s cracking me up! I think it’s right of you to find a new doctor if he is not going to respect your wishes.

It’s crazy about the wildfires going on in California right now Marie :( I have family living up there that I’m worried about but they have been keeping touch on FB and are okay. Stay safe Marie and you are smart to stay put! Mango chicken sausages sound SO GOOD!!! I miss going to Whole Foods and buying all of their specialty sausages. I need to go soon and since Amazon just bought them, they are supposedly a lot cheaper now too.

Taking a lazy day today, well kind of lol. I did do a home workout with my weights, but that’s it. Been laying around besides that catching up on some shows. Thinking about making this tonight Mexican Skillet Chicken and putting it in tortillas. It will be easy since we have to be at soccer at 5:40 and we can choose to eat before or after. I need to start thinking about what I’m going to make for the pumpkin/Halloween challenge! Will probably get something made this week. I made some spooky witch finger cookies one year and the kids thought they were hilarious, and I’m sure there are some recipes for that on this site, so there’s an idea. Wishing everyone a great day!!

Oh dear Marie. That's horrible news. Sending best wishes and prayers for a heavy rain or something to stop those fires. :( Ugh your cell service is out but you still have a landline right? I feel bad for Rick being caught up in road diversions and such. Your sausages sound very yummy. TAKE GOOD CARE!

Amazon bought Whole Foods? That's kind of neat Michelle. I hadn't heard that. Glad you are having a bit of a laid back day. Have fun at soccer. I'm afraid I haven't been good at participating in the IMI challenges. It gets away on me sometimes. :) Perhaps when everything settles down a little.

I am overjoyed to announce I found a pr. of slacks and I quite like them. In fact I liked them so much I also bought a pr. in black. They are very comfy and they look nice and dressy. I didn't find a necklace which I was hoping to nor did I find a pashmina but I still have two days left. LOLOLOLOL.

Jim's making good progress on the rock garden.

Michelle, where does your family live? There are so many wildfires going on Gov Brown declared a State of Emergency..the high winds didn't help...supposed to be windy the next few days in the valley ..which means we could get them as well. Hope your family stays safe....and thank you, I will stay safe:) I'm queen of checking fire reports, fire containment, the local news etc...

Janet, yes, our landline is working..Rick called a bit ago, he's heading back up to do some calls in Paradise..he forwarded the business calls to me on our landline since he will not have service..I called AT&T again today..the rep told me it stated status was "undefined" he said he has never seen that before..which means they don't have a clue as to when service will be restored..he said at least 72 hours, maybe less, maybe more.
Thank you for your concern..we'll be just fine, I'm sure they are keeping it contained at the bottom of the hill)

    Keep us tuned Marie.

Pulled out the Pashmina I wore to that wedding a few years ago and it actually will work with this outfit too. HURRAY! I'm pretty much set. And it didn't hurt too much at all. LOL.

That's great you have lots of left overs and don't have to cook Janet. And Kuddos finding slacks and then buying another pair in another color.

Understandable that GS is at "that age" Karen and sometimes looks for an out when he's not comfortable.

I've been reading the news on the wildfires Marie. So sad and scary the damage that is being done and nothing is stopping them. And I thought a hurricane was scary. Good luck, stay safe, and praying it stays away from you and that they get them under control.
I looked at the same health insurance carrier for Obama care and true the monthly premium is less but in the long run the health insurance is more if you use it. If Congress and the politicians were subjected to the same health care it would be straightened out yesterday.

The internet is an amazing resource Michelle. I couldn't believe Quest labs had their lab codes on-line ... made my job all the more convincing and easier. LOL!
Good for you on your lazy day. Always nice to have some home time but I'm sure your day has been everything but lazy. I remember the Witch Finger cookies! I made them one year too.

It's just me for dinner tonight and I haven't a clue what to make. DH gave me the day off. I went to the Honda dealer with LD and priced a new car to see if it makes any sense for me to trade mine in ... it's not looking like it would.

Janet, supposedly after Amazon bought Whole Foods they have dropped all of their products prices (or most of them) by about 40%. Too cool!! It just shows how overpriced they were before :( Yay on finding some pants, and 2 at that!

Marie, they are family by marriage and they live in San Diego. I'm not sure if it's bad or not there, but at least they are letting us know they are fine :)

I love cooking dinner for just myself Linda, I usually just make something vegetarian lol.

It was supposed to rain today, but never did, but we did get a cool front! It's in the low 70's and I'm loving it :)

    I sure will Janet...

Linda, it seems that different regions have their different set of problems or better yet, disasters that may arise...we were beside ourselves watching the hurricane damage in Texas and on the East coast where you are....

Michelle, here's a link to a CA map of current fires..just click on the "flame" and it will let you know where that fire is located . http://www.calfire.ca.gov/general/firemaps

Good evening and hello to all. Great you got your outfit in line for the wedding Janet! Oh my on the wildfires Marie. Here's hoping for rain!!

Was my cheese night and it was delightful as ever. Trip to St. Augustine was successful as usual. Weather was kinda crappy and hotel room wasn't as good as it could have been for the price we pay. Rain and thunderstorms but we had a good trip non the less.

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi! Enjoy the rest of the evening.
