Toasty Tuesday

    Good Morning everyone!
We're in for a heat wave over the next two days. We've already had temps. of 26C/78.8F all weekend. Now we will get temp's of 28-30C/84-86F's today and tomorrow. Yesterday was hot enough so we put our air conditioning in, I just have to get the tower fans from the basement. It's extremely dry here with a little wind---We're at extreme-high for forest fires, we're battling plenty in the province already. It's usually never this toasty in early May!
The kitchen is taking twice as long as expected. We only took out half the kitchen, where the sink is. The cabinets here were never meant to come out, boy were they built well! They must have had 8 nails on every side of the frame, crazy! Lol. So it took one day to remove half the cabinets. One day to cut the tile floor because the new cabinets are bigger. And we spent all of yesterday fixing the walls because they aren't even. We built the new cabinets, which was the quickest thing of them all! At 8pm last night we finally got the last base cabinet in. We moved the dishwasher and got that plumbed in, but we can't do the sink until we have the countertops on. And we can't put the counter tops on until we get the filler pieces made and attached. (We have bigger gaps then expected!) So, still no sink but thankfully I can use the dishwasher! I do have two other kitchenettes in the house, but they are far away and full of stuff from the main kitchen! The biggest thing about the water is, we have a reverse osmosis system attached to the kitchen sink plumbing--that's for all our drinking and cooking water. The water here is not drinkable, it's thick, slimy and disgusting, it won't even go through the coffee maker. And boiling pasta etc...you can taste the salty, sulfurous, bleachy yuckiness! So we have had to buy several jugs of drinking water from the store. I probably won't cook anything in water until we get the RO system in. Hopefully this weekend!
I have no plans for dinner at the moment, with the heat it will be way too hot to BBQ on the deck and we can't move the grill because of all the construction debris and old cabinets in the way! The kids have an eye doctor appt. in town at 4:30, so I'll pick something up nearby. Last night we had tv dinners, I got them at the local supermarket here. I didn't even know they still made them! We each had chicken fingers, ribs, salisbury steak, and turkey dinner. They all came with mashed potatoes, veggies and a brownie. Not bad for a microwave meal and very hungry people who skipped lunch, lol ;)

I wish you all a wonderful day! :)

Here's a little pic of a honey bee visiting my flower bush, I can't remember the name of the plant--it's very fragrant! :) -----I think it's a type of Daphne, not sure which variety. It's so fragrant, the bees love it. I cut it back quite a bit last year because it's by our back door and the bees swarm the bush all day long--a little scary hearing the buzzing bush, lol. My neighbours across the way have two in their front yard as big as trees! I might move them in the fall to let them get bigger.

Good Afternoon Shona. Good Afternoon everyone.

Yep, that's pretty warm weather you're having. I hope your area gets rain soon and enough of it, the threat of forest fires and having them is not good.
Home reno projects always take longer than you first think. Things you don't expect pop-up and then have to be dealt with. It'll all be worth it in the end.
Beautiful plant! How long does it bloom?

I'm running back out. Took our little boy (LD, maltese dog) in for oral surgery this a.m. Just got the call that I can come pick him up around 12:30 or so. It's takes about 40 minutes to get there so I'll be leaving soon. Poor little guy had to have another 2 teeth pulled and one that was compromised but could be saved with an antibiotic pak. Febuary 2015 he had to have 19 teeth pulled. His mouth was a mess. Long story short his regular veterinarians were only doing visual exams and were telling me everything was great and it was far from it. Uughhh, when he hurts I hurt 2x more.

    HI Linda,
I hope your little guy recovers quickly and all goes well with the surgery! I totally understand feeling their pain, it's hard to see them like that. Thank goodness he has an awesome momma like you to take care of him! :)

It is starting to get warmer here this week and we may get up into the 70's by the end of the week. Ugh! that is too warm for me Shona. Does it get humid as well out there? Too bad you are running into snags on your kitchen reno but I know it will be worth it in the end. It is a very pretty flower.
I hope your poor wee guy feels better soon, Linda.
I didn't end out going out to do my errands yesterday as it looked dreary out to me, so today it will be. The nice thing about retirement:) I am not sure what we are having for dinner. I might pick something up when I am out.
Wishing you a very Happy Birthday Jim! Enjoy your special day!
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Ugh on the warm temps and fire danger, Shona. We had a few dribs of rain but not enough to to much good. It went South and North. 60's (F) today. Kitchen reno is a chore. So glad ours is over.

    Happy birthday Jim.

Hope LD feels better after all his surgery.

    Hi Joce.

Allergies kicking up and feel rotten so I best scoot before turning into Oscar the Grouch -- ha ha! Picking up a RX at the PX then a chiro appointment. May stop by commissary also.

    See you later.

Wow you are getting summer weather, not spring Shona! You are certainly in the midst of a huge project. Uneven walls are nasty. Wow on the bad water quality! Ugh! That's unfortunate you can't utilize the BBQ. Gorgeous picture! Was that just taken recently?

Hope your pup came through the dental work okay Linda. Poor little thing.

It has been a lovely day for errand running Joce! JIm's birthday isn't until next week but since we're heading away I needed to get all my shopping done ahead of time.

Feel better soon Karen. I've never had allergies to anything and for that I am genuinely grateful. Jim deals with it in the fall. Hope your chiro appointment went well and you had a good shop at the commissary.

I'm late getting on this morning as I had to write up my book report for my Library Book Chat which was this afternoon and then Jim and I ran into town and did errands and then I had a Physio appointment at noon. Grabbed lunch, an Indian buffet and then over to the Library and now we're back.

We're going to eat up leftovers of the pork chops with sauerkraut and pearl barley this evening for dinner alongside some Perogies I picked up on sale at Costco yesterday.

Gorgeous afternoon out. I still haven't fed the birds and squirrels!!!

I bought Jim a fishing rod and other assorted fishing things today. Of course he was with me and the rod wouldn't fit in the trunk so I had to lower the back seat and throw my jacket over top, but of course he'd know darn well what was going on. I'm going to give him the rod and a couple of other things tomorrow but then wrap and pack the easier carried items along with us for him to open on the day of his actual birthday. Shaking head. LOL. There was a very helpful fellow at Canadian Tire that got me all outfitted as I know pretty much nothing about fishing.

Hi Joce. It's about 35% humidity right now. I live in the wetlands part of Alberta, so it's a lot more humid here then down south where it's desert. It can be around 60-70% on an average day, but it's been super dry and windy the last few months. I hope you got all your errands done :)

Hi Karen, boo on the allergy's! I hope you find some relief soon :)

Hi Janet, the fishing equipment sounds like a perfect b-day gift! Your dinner sounds lovely :) I took that picture yesterday. All of our cherry trees have flowered, and I just noticed one of my apple trees flowered this morning--that is very early for around here! It smells so wonderful outside already, and the lilacs haven't even bloomed yet. I think the last 3-4 years there was still snow on the ground by the end of April, so this is definitely a change from the norm. Lol, I can just imagine trying to wrap up a fishing rod, lol, giving it to him early sounds like a good idea ;)

You are SO far ahead of us in the growing season Shona! I wouldn't have thought Alberta to really be so much warmer than Ontario. I'm hoping to see some Cherry and apple blossoms in the Niagara this week. My Forsythia are in bloom here but that's it. My apple trees have little buds on them but that's just a promise of what's to come. I ended up just tying a ribbon around the top of the fishing rod and curling it. I hid it in the office closet and I'll give it to him tomorrow. :)

I went to the Hardware store yesterday and returned my defective spiralizer and got a new one (same Paderno brand) instead. They said they hadn't had any others returned or defective so hopefully it was just a fluke.
