Too Cool To Hunt Thursday

  • MissouriFarmWife 9 years ago
It is not so early in the morning and the sun is out on a frosty fall scene. I curled up in the sun room after the obligatory cup of coffee, brought my laptop out and am now completely comfy, sitting propped up against a pillow, feet up on the love-seat. Wayne suggested going to a nearby little town for breakfast but in addition to gas expenditure, cost, etc. our furniture is due in Friday and we will have to drive to Springfield pick it up Wednesday (day after deer season ends - Bwahahaha).

The idiot hunter is still camped by the fence line and his fire was not well done. If he sets the woods on fire I will happily turn him in. A nasty little part of me thinks poetic justice would be if his truck caught fire, but I do try to rein in such thoughts as not cool. So I think of the turkey as a fly in the ointment of life. LOL.

Speaking of turkeys, GS saw a flock of 10 and decided to sneak up on them just to see how close he could get (not turkey season, no intent to shoot one). He described his “crouching” advance and said he got to within 15 feet of one before they realized he was there. We see lots of them and have caught them on game cameras also.

It is chilly out and I am not in the mood to freeze while strolling / stalking deer in the woods, which is where they are hiding out. I am not a great one for that type of activity anyhow, too impatient, and my weather predictor hip is telling me that things are a changing in the weather department.

O.K. - time to scoot. Donna, I love the variety in people’s lifestyle in this group. From city dwellers to farm life, Florida heat to Canada snow. I have picked up some interesting recipes and it is so amazing to feel concern for someone who I have never met.

The turkeys in the pictures on the ends were caught on game cameras in two different fields this fall. The center one is our youngest GS "helping" in the summer when we had to bring hay into the barn to store while the baler was being repaired in the shop. For the first break of the summer. The second time (different parts) it broke it stayed in the field and a friend / neighbor baled the hay.

Morning. Ugh on the hunter Karen. Hope the woods stay fire free, yikes!! I would love to see a flock of turkeys, but I know that isn't going to happen around here, lol :) Enjoy your coffee!

Yesterday I met up with a friend for lunch and then we went shopping and running errands together, and I took her to the health food store I go to. Didn't end up getting home until almost dinner time, and I had to whip up something quick before the kids gym classes. 2 nights ago I must have slept wrong and I woke up yesterday with a crick in my neck. Laid on a heating pad for about an hour last night, but still today woke up with a sore neck. Anyway, today I need to go grocery shopping and to get a new coffee grinder. The one I have I used to grind up some jalapenos I had dried out and turned into chili powder. Don't think I want to be grinding up coffee after that lol! So now I'll have one for coffee and for for spices. Okay, hopefully the weather stays nice because this is on my menu tonight
Mesquite Grilled Chicken In White Barbeque Sauce. Have a great day everyone!!

Super cool photos, Karen. I think it is good that you are listening to your hip and not hunting today. Curled up on the loveseat is a lovely idea to me. GS and the turkey sighting is neat. I do believe karma and the idiot hunter will meet.

They have painted the house next door. Gone is the white house with faded brown trim. It is a lovely shade of beige with the lightest tinted beige trim. Very pretty. They are replacing all the windows today from Miami awning to double pane energy efficient windows. The drilling begins again.

I do love the ODD group, we are quite the diverse group of posters. I love what I learn here too. It definitely expands my horizons and my waistline. LOL

So, I have degenerative arthritis of my spine in my neck and chest, the pain I was feeling with each breath was my spine protesting. I really sliced my finger deeply last night. You know a knife blade should be pointed down to slice, not up. I had my finger over my head all night and now my shoulder is frozen. I'm a mess.

Dinner is baked chicken coated in mustard and panko. Roasted vegetables. Spinach salad.

Olivia colored her hair last night. She is Lucy RED. well, maybe a bit more Sharon Osbourne than Lucy. She loves it. If anything, she has inherited my genes for the love of changing my hair color and fluffy comforters and pillows. She took a friend to Bed Bath and Beyond to help chose some things for his new apartment. $700.00 dollars later, the friend was set up with comforters, towels, coffee maker, silverware, dishes, candles and occasional tables. Don't take Olivia shopping with you. That is all.

Hi Michelle. The presence of the wingless turkey is only a glitch in the general scheme of things. Venting keeps it in perspective. Life is too cool to focus on one ignorant dude.

A brilliant red cardinal is on one of the trees in the "orchard" (destined for redoing after severe ice storm destroyed many of the trees). Gorgeous. Love the redbirds -- not so much blue jays.

Coffee was good. I am working on a grocery list (wahoo!) but so far not much progress. Sigh. Best get back to work.

SP Michelle. Oh, baby that neck. I know it hurts. Be careful driving too. Turning to look behind has to hurt. Good on getting a second coffee grinder. Spicy coffee is just not my cup of tea. I hope the weather holds up so that you can grill the chicken and make that yummy white barbecue sauce.

Karen, love the avatar. Made me laugh out loud. Wish I had a doughnut instead of my oatmeal.

Just watched the news conference over the shooting of students in the FSU library. Olivia has skating friends who went to Florida State and they are completely horrified over this turn of events. It is so scary.

Karen I LOVE your pictures. Thanks for sharing. Your grandson is a very handsome young man and looks like he's quite enjoying himself and those are great turkey shots. :) Enjoy the warmth of your house. We get cardinals here as well. I have a pr. Male and female and tons of bluejays who I also love. Their colour is so vibrant especially in the winter time. I know they can be bossy though. :)
Sorry to hear your neck is still sore this morning Michelle. Neck pain is one of the worst. It just doesn't stop. Whoop on the Mesquite Grilled chicken. Wish I lived closer so I could pop by for a piece. :)
Sorry to hear about the degenerative arthritis Tina. Just the words sound painful never mind what you have to endure. Gentle hugs. Your dinner sounds yummy. ROFL @ Liv's shopping trip with her friend. Bet his place will look sharpy-doo after all that! :) Hadn't heard about the Shooting til I read your post so googled the story. How horrible.
Got Jim into the Park n' Ride first thing and then stopped at the Hardware store. Needed to replenish my wine glasses. They get a lot of use and are getting scratched and even a chip or two from the dishwasher. Treated myself to a cute little bird feeder to add to my collection and found Mom a tablecloth with chickens on it (she's a fan of anything 'chicken') to go in her Christmas parcel.
Had my hair cut. I was two weeks overdue and it feels SO much better now. About to head back into town as I have a zillion more errands to run. Had a dish of
    Cabbage Rolls
in the freezer that I've set out to thaw for dinner and will cook up some perogies on the side. Between that and a Sens Game this evening Jim will be a most happy man. :)

Hello, Janet. Nice purchases. I too, like chickens on anything...pot holders, kitchen towels, salt and pepper shakers. I'm sure your mom will appreciate the tablecloth. Oh, I meant to say that I think Benjamin tinkering with your photos for a card is too cool. Nice on the hair cut. I was thinking of how much I wanted to have a pan of Cabbage Rolls in my deep freeze. They sound perfect for a chili night. Good luck on the errands.

Karen, I'm trying to get my shopping list together too. Aldi's has a lb of butter for $2.29 instead of $3.50. I'm stocking up. Sweet potatoes, 3 lb. bag for $.99 and 12 ounce fresh cranberry $.99. I have a 12 lb. turkey in the deep freeze. I want to avoid the big crowds for the big shop.

Glad you liked the avatar, Tina. I was good and had peanut butter sandwich for breakfast - no donuts. LOL.

It is sad that FSU joined the list of schools where this is happening. It makes me want to practice with my own handgun to qualify for a concealed carry permit. Although I have never felt the need or desire to take a firearm off of the place, the world is becoming more crazy every day, enough to make me entertain the thought, anyhow! Aaargh!

The house next door sounds lovely. Hope it attracts nice neighbors for you. Olivia's hair sounds so funny, too. My 43 year old daughter still likes to color her hair in, shall we say, brilliant colors. She even did her hair and eyebrows a gaudy carrot-top red one time. I told her if she went with bright purple or pink I'd make her ride in the bed of the truck, even in winter!

A nut case squirrel is dashing about on top of the metal roof on the sun room. He is probably gathering the nuts that have fallen to the sound of drumbeats and crashes. Sound really carries on the metal! So funny.

Wayne goes to a holistic chiropractor (no rough stuff). He has helped a lot with the nerve damage and no more sharp pain. He works on people with soft bones and bent spines and they do not have pain from his procedure. It is not like a "regular" (can't find the right word but that is close) type chiropractor. I am considering trying it myself or maybe acupuncture to see if it slows down the arthritis progression. Back to the subject -- that might help realign the spine for you and lessen some of the pain.

OK I have run out of excuses to avoid the grocery list so must go. Or else nothing will get done. Still in my cozy jammies - ha ha!

Good Morning! Well...it's still morning technically. :)

I missed all the Fun With Donna last night! Glad you popped your head in, Girlfriend. Do it again today!! Love that Jake is helping Brad. I know you are enjoying seeing him and cooking for him. I can only imagine about the no lieftovers! If I was feeding Jason it would double my grocery bill. (Triple if you included the kids. lol). Turkey gravy at Costco? Who knew??? Sounds like a plan...except I'd have to buy a Costco membership, too! Maybe I should run in some of the "real" grocery stores here in Knoxville after work one day!

Love the pix, Karen! Deer season doesn't last very long, huh? For some reason I would have thought it lasted for...well...a season! (Did I say I'm a city girl?) Good outlook on the idot camper. But I do hope his ill-advised fire doesn't spread. It is funny about caring about people you've never met. Some of the women from this group, both past and present members, are women that I consider some of my dearest friends. :)

Michelle, it sounded like Bri did a great job at her audition. Eager to hear the results. I hope you enjoy the chicken. I love that recipe and don't make it near enough.

Love the SHaron Osborne red hair for Liv, Tina!! I bet it looks great! Oy Vey on the arthritis/dgenerative disc disease in your neck. I just found I have the same thing. NOT FUN. I had a pinched nerve in my neck a few weeks go. So bad I could barely use my arm. A friend that used to work for an Ortho group got me in quickly. Found out that I had it then, and the inflamation from the arthritis was actually pinching a nerve. High powered anti-inflammatory twice a day helped alot more than I expected it to. And a steroid pack to reduce the inflammation. He also had me get this devide to do neck traction at home. I looked like Barney Fife when he was trying to stretch himself because he wasn't tall enough to meet the new requirements for a deputy!! lol Hope they find the combo that works for you SOON!! I never knew I had it in my neck But I have it everywhere else, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. OMG on that cut. You probably needed some stitches! TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!! Do you hear me???? :)

I haven't heard about the FSU shooting, either! OMG. That's so sad.

Janet, enjoy your day with the car! Love the checken tablecloth for your mom. That's a neat gift. SO you bought a tablecoth and wine glasses at the hardware store?? Very interesting. A hockey game sounds fun. I need to check the schedule for the Knoxville Ice Bears and see about getting us some tickets. We don't go often, but have a blast when we do!

No cooking tonight. I have wellness class.

HEY to all not here yet. Have a good one!!

OH by the way, a couple of questions I had...
Has anybody used a big ziplock Baggie in place of a pastry bag to do the deviled egg filling? And if so, is it really quicker than two spoons?

And does anybody use the insulated carrier with their Pyrex or other baking dishes? Is it worth the investment? I have an hour travel time, so it probably won't stay hot anyway?

Tina I am totally using your gravy idea! Could I make it a couple days in advance? I don't have a thermos to put it in, but I'm thinking mason jar.

Very cool pics of the wild turkeys, Karen and your GS is indeed a very good looking young man:) I am not a fan of walking around in the cold weather either! I would be staying inside all cuddled up and warm as well. We have a couple of pairs we see all the time here. It is nice b/c, the back of our house is surrounded by woods and we get to see many types of birds here. Our backyard is all fenced in though so we don't get to see all that is going on back there. LOL We do get quite a few deer, out on our front lawn quite often though:) I remember the first year we moved here. A neighbour down the street had those lighted metal mesh deer figures on their lawn for Christmas. When we turned the corner one night, it was filled with several real deer intermingled with the lighted ones and it was a beautiful site. I hope your hip feels better soon and you figure out a good grocery list. What a stupid idiot hunter! I love ODD we are all so diverse and we learn such interesting things all the time in here:)

Donna, YAY! Glad you were able to drop by:) Also fantabulous Brad is doing so well considering all he has been through! You as well, and congrats on getting your car too! Great to hear Jake is working with Brad:)

Michelle, Sorry to hear about your sore neck:( I hope the pain eases up soon. Big Bravo to Bri getting up singing on the stage like that:) Good luck finding another coffee grinder and crossing my fingers for you so you are able to grill your Mesquite Chicken tonight.

Tina, I have a degenerating spine from arthritis as well. I don't have any pain when I breath fortunately but, it can pinch nerves and hurts like heck! Has you doctor prescribed an anti-inflammatory to help with the pain from that? Also have they told you to take extra vitamin D? It will help your bones stay stronger. I have been ordered to take 3000 IU of D per day as my doctor checked my levels of vitamin D b/c, normally people with Fibro tend to have very low levels of it, and I do. It also can help with inflammation as well. Yikes! Take care of your finger and shoulder too! Do you think you might need stitches in it? Take good care of yourself! LOL @ Liv being the shopping spend thrift connoisseur, with other peoples money:) Shaking my head at the shooting! What is the world coming to?

Janet, Wow! You have had a busy morning and it sounds like the same this afternoon! Don't overdo it pace yourself! Cabbage rolls and perogies are a perfect meal for a chilly day like today.

The painter guy hasn't called yet! Oh well I know he will eventually! I need milk and a few things and some paint sample thingys. So I will have to go out sometime this afternoon. Dinner will be Salmon Souffle with steamed asparagus with hollandaise sauce and some sort of potato. Karen, I thing the word you are trying to find is an Osteopath? They are excellent and so much better than a chiropractor any day. IMHO

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

    Oops! SP? Lori:)
I have never done the zip lock bag trick and I don't know how much those insulated bags are? However, if you have to drive that far, it would keep things warm, especially if your Dad's oven is going to be full of other things. You could take the casserole dish or whatever, out of the oven wrap it tightly in foil. Then wrap it with hot towels out of the dryer to try and keep it insulated and warm for the hour drive, possibly? I will see if I can think or find something else you might be able to do?

Missed your post, Janet - SP?

The GS in the pictures is a miracle child - born with severe heart trouble and came close to losing him. He was not supposed to talk and the DRs were not optimistic at all. He is now mainstreamed, talks a blue streak, is on a swim team and thinks he is Michael Phelps in the making, and has started Tae Kwon Do (? sp) lessons. He turned 10 this year.

Hey all! Almost 11 here and I'm still in pjs. In my defense, I was googling scaffolding planks for Brad for a couple hours. Oy vey! That's not something I recommend. Karen, I love the turkey pics and your GS is cute. Nice miracle. Love the avatar too. I started following you btw. How different to live on a farm! I'd never survive though. Lol city girl here.
Thanks all for the welcome back! Hi, Michelle, I think I might have chatted with you way back in the day on Refugees group. Nice to have you in ODD. Sorry for your neck. I can relate. Sad to say I think we all have arthritic issues on here!
Tina, ouch on the cut! Be careful! Sorry on your pain too. My AS affects my breathing sometimes, or should I say, hurts when I breathe deep, like broken ribs or something. Lol it's all related to the spine. Hope you get some relief, you need it! Lol on Liv's hair, and I love to shop vicariously too! Cool on the house next door.
Lori, I'm not much help on your questions... I just stuff my eggs using one spoon and my finger. Lol as for the transport of your hot dish, never used one of those either. Maybe putting it in one of those collapsible coolers would work. What are you bringing? Could you reheat it there?
Joce, it see you are still a veritable fountain of info! Lol can always count on you for help. I love the live deer amongst the lighted, very cool to see! Sounds like you, Janet, and Karen have quite the wildlife views!
Janet, new furniture? How fun! We finally finished our new master downstairs, but haven't moved down there yet. Still have a few finishing touches to do, like ceiling fan and threshold on new slider out to the patio. I haven't heard about FSU shooting either! I quit watching morning news years ago... How awful. We had a kid shoot 5 classmates and then himself about 3 weeks ago in Marysville HS. (About 10 miles north of us) very disturbing indeed.
Hey Laurie. Where's Laura? I've played wwf with her since Brad fell. Who else is missing? CRAFT..
The reason for the scaffolding search is while Brad was laid up for so long, his planks sat wet in his warehouse and now they are deteriorated so badly, he says they are unsafe. Ka Ching! And in June his job trailer got stolen in the middle of the night with over $20,000 in tools in it! We recovered the trailer (abandoned on road about 10 miles away) but it was cleaned out, down to the pencils! I swear we couldn't get a break So he's been slowly replacing things...
    Not sure on dinner yet....
This has taken me so long...SPs for sure!

Hello Donna, I'd be scared to death looking up scaffolding. Just the word and Brad would make me shiver. But of course, he needs safe new ones for the business. Glad to hear things are coming along and he is doing so well after such a terrible accident. Yep, we are happy to see you here. And broken rib feeling from the spine is exactly right, that is what compromises my breathing. We are a bunch, aren't we?

Karen, I love your miracle grandson. I love when "they" are wrong with their predictions on our children. How long is deer season? That squirrel must be raising a ruckus on the roof. How funny!

Joce, I think the image of real deer with the lit up deer would be a magical sight to see. Thank you for the advise on Vitamin D. They routinely test my vitamin levels because of the vitamin sapping drugs I take. I take supplements. Using a styrofoam cooler to transport is a good idea.

Lori, I definitely would make the gravy up to three days ahead. Just keep cold and reheat on stove. I would make the casseroles ahead, Tuesday night. Refrigerate. I take it Dad doesn't have oven space available to reheat the casseroles at his house? You could take the turkey out, tent it with foil and let it rest to redistribute the juices, crank up the heat in the oven and then reheat the mac/cheese and green bean casserole for 30 minutes. Does he have a warming drawer on his oven? I am putting our casseroles in the warming drawer while the rolls bake and the turkey rests. The turkey is juicier if you allow it to rest. If you cut it too soon, the juice all leaks out and the bird is dry. As far as the zip lock baggie and egg yolks, I am fumble fingers when piping and I find it easier with a spoon and a finger, like Donna. I also, think too much of the filling stays in the bag and not in the egg white.

Lori, ouch for you and the arthritis and pinched nerve. Painful. I was taking anti-inflammatory drugs until my stomach got too upset and I had to take a break from them.

Janet, cool on the bird counting and I hope you are having fun with errands.

Michelle, brava on Bri singing on stage. I do hope your neck is better now.

Laurie, I loved the appetizer supper you had at Cheesecake Factory.

Olivia is a skinflint with her money, but she can certainly spend someone else's money. She just called and she will be working late. One of her co-workers is 8 months pregnant and while waiting on a table, her water broke. Olivia said the manager took her to the hospital and Olivia will be working her shift the rest of today and tomorrow. Baby boy is on the way.

Hi Joce!!! Thanks for all the help. I can totally reheat at Dad's, no biggie. Was just thinking if those carrieres actually work it would be good to have when we take dishes to friends houses, etc. (And a good excuse to spend the $ if they would work at Thanksgiving, lol). I have a paper box (box that reams of comupter paper came in at work) that I use with towels now. Keeps it from sliding every where, too! Can't believe you haven't heard from your painter yet. Hope you do soon. Arthritis and Diabetes will lower your vitamin D, so I take a supplement too since I have both. Good grief, I sound like an old coot. : )

Donna, Joce still has a mind like a steel trap! I'd forgotten about her excellent memeory in my long absence. Count me in the CRAFT club. Oh lordy. Please get Brad some SAFE scaffolding! We don't want to go there again. :) OMG on the thieves. Even took the pencils, eh? *eye roll* I remember when that school shooting was on the news. I didn't realize it was so close to you. Sad sad sad.

I really should get back to work. Gonna be a long day. Work right up until time for wellness, then have class for 2 hours, then a couple errands and a 45 min drive home. Can you say UGH? lol

Ugh is right on the long drive. Speaking of driving...Brad says last night "what'd you do today?" When I said nothing, he says "what!? You have a car now, and you just stayed home..." Long night for you, indeed, Lori.

I can't tell you how much pleasure I get looking out my back sliding doors to see the next door house freshly painted. I didn't realize how depressing that faded brown trim was looking after 16 years of it out my window. The fresh white window trim plays nicely off the beige. I kind of wish I had taken before and after shots.

Ya'll have to read Shona's post in the T-day thread. It is funny.

We have a change of dinner plans since Olivia is working late. Frozen pizza and salad. It is her night of must see TV and a pizza slice during Grey's Anatomy is her request.

SP Tina! Thanks for all the answers to my questions. No warming drawer. But there is a microwave, and 2 ovens. It's not problem to heat up there. I wondered the same thing about using the baggie for the egg filling. Who wants to waste any of that yummyness??? Not me. :) I hear ya on resting the turkey. Like Dad would think I knew what I was talking about if I told him that. :) I see Bobby Flay et al carve turkeys on FN, and think, I wish my dad would do it that way. But he would just argue if I tried to show him. He knows more than anyone, and he will do things that even the dr tells him not to, just to prove that he can and that he knows more than the Dr. (TRUTH!). And if he disagrees with something a doctor tellls us, for ourselves or the kids, what we hear is "You need to listen to me, I know more than those doctors do". *eye roll* It is what it is. (not my intention to be disrespectful, it's just the truth, and everyone who knows him would tell you the same thing). OH. EM. GEE. on the water breaking at the table!! Wow. What a story she will have for that baby later on! Hope all goes well with the delivery. Let us know. I'd say frozen pizza with a nice salad and her favorite show will be just what Liv needs. Sounds like the house is really coming along. I bet it is very refreshing to have that view change.

LOL Donna. I guess I think everyone knows what Wellness Class is. :) I work for a large medical group, at the Central Office, in the Education Dept. (I'm administrative only). We offer classes to patients free of charge, on chronic disease states such as Diabetes, COPD, Heart Disease, and also Smoking Cessation. They have now implemented a class called Steps to Wellness. It's a weight mgt / wellness class. Will meet monthly for 12 mos. The patients that have taken it have had really good results. I'm not one of our patients, but, since I work here, I get to take the class since I want to. Lots of really good information. Each month is a different topic, we weigh in, they take waist measurements quarterly, and monitor a few other metrics like BMI, etc. Tonight will be my group's 5th class. So now, there's more than you ever wanted to know about Wellness class. :)
LMAO at Brad waniting to know why you stayed home when you have a car. Too funny!

Sounds like Aldi's has some very good prices alright Tina! And the next door neighbour's house sure sounds lovely and like they've done an excellent job getting it all ship shape. Oh my goodness on the waitresses water breaking on the job. I'd be freaking!
Cool on the holistic chiropractor Karen. Great story about your grandson. That's excellent!
Do you know anyone with a Costco membership that would grab some gravy for you Lori? I was in Coscto today. A zoo as always. Loads of Christmas stuff. My only impulse purchase was a bag of dried Pineapple slices. A lady nabbed me at one of the food booths and they were very good and all natural. Thought they'd make a healthier snack than some of the things I sneak. :) Sorry to hear you're still dealing with pain as well and ugh that it's also moved to your neck. :( LOL...why is it interesting that I bought a tablecloth and wine glasses at the Hardware store. Or do your Hardware stores not carry houseware-y things. :) LOL. What's wellness class? It sounds like something I may need. :) No to both questions re: Ziplock bag and Pyrex insulated carriers.
So fun Joce on the illuminated deer mixed with the regular ones. That'd be a fun sight to see.And you too with the degenerating spine! Goodness. You're killing me with your dinner. It sounds AMAZING.
Hey Donna! Excellent to see you back again today. Marie will have missed you big time I'm sure and she hasn't popped on to notice yet. :) Indeed Brad would not want to play around with any dangerous scaffolding stuff after all he's been through. A shame it's so pricey. OMG on the job trailer being stolen. How awful! Insurance to cover?
Had a busy afternoon but got pretty much all accomplished that I wanted to. Found Mom a lovely sweater with bluejays on it and a turtleneck....it's not as high as a turtleneck...forget what the term is...anyway she'll really like it. Mock neck, Janet, had to tell you before I forgot! Lol
I forgot also to tell you I like your gift of chicken tablecloth. I too have a chicken fetish. Lol more like roosters. I have a rooster cushion mat in front of sink, a rooster on my ceramic bread pan, and a rooster on my antique fruit bowl! Used to have the neatest tomato soup red trivet with a metal rooster in center. Unfortunately it fell and broke, but I kept the rooster. Not sure what I'll ever do with it. Lol
No insurance on the tools, too cost prohibitive in the last 20 years. Our home owners picks up $2500 of it only because of it being business, which after $1500 deductible was a measly $1000. We milked Pemco on the damage to the trailer, very slight, but helped.

Lol Lori, yes I miss FSW! My only bestie in the westie. I now remember Wellness classes, they offer them here too.

Heard from Olivia, the mom-to-be was waiting on 3 middle-aged women. When she took over the table, all of them said, they figured out what happened to Michelle and they wished her well. More understanding than some of the regulars at Toasted. Those old farts would have a heart attack.

My stupid finger opened up again and I probably should have had a stitch or two. Triple bandage and pressure will hopefully take care of it. The wellness class sounds like a good benefit and very informative all around.

My step dad was the same way as your dad, Lori. He knew better than anyone on how to do everything. I have to say I used to NOT let a roast or steak rest before cutting and it was a shame to see all the juice run over the cutting board. I let it rest now and I've found it better. I guess we have to let dads be dads and be grateful they are with us. Third year we won't have Poppop yelling at us during Uno. Although I think we are playing "Cards against Humanity" this year. What a terrible name for a game? Olivia raves about it. I personally like spoons because the kids can play.

Donna, I like roosters too. I love our new Mexican restaurant, El Gallo Grande. The big rooster painted on the side always makes me smile. I had rooster statues all over the house until Fred put his food down and said, "no more". So now we have turtles. Everywhere.

Janet, good shopping finds. I can't imagine the crowds at Costco and Sams. I'm trying to get all my shopping done ahead, like tomorrow.

Lol Tina on "until Fred put his food down and said, "no more". So now we have turtles. Everywhere." I decided on a big 'ol 2 lb. meat loaf for dinner. Easy peasy and with Jake here, tilt go fast I'm sure. Prob green beans as side. "They" can throw in some bread as filler..lol I'm swearing off breads, pasta, rice, etc. till turkey day at least.

Shades of Pat LeClare and the mis-typed word. LOL Put his foot down!!! not his food down. LOL It was the last straw when we had guests over for dinner and one asked, "Which one of you has the cock fetish?" That was the end of the rooster collection. Turtles are okay because of Tyler and his nickname. Ty the Turtle.
Lori, I have to commend you for remembering my Ty-guy nick name too.

Donna, I'm glad you have Jake helping Brad. It does a mom good to have the kid around. Although, feeding can be an issue. Men just have bigger appetites. I'm lucky Olivia visits two days out of seven, so feeding her is not the issue, but her laundry!!! Good grief. And since she left her dog here, he eats enough on his own. Charlie is 85 lbs., Molly is 55 lbs. Lola is a very sturdy spark plug of a pug at 18 lbs. and Skippy is a slim 6 lbs. I buy their food every six weeks and it is $145.00 dollars. Plus their licenses and shots. But I wouldn't trade their love for anything. Now, I'm trying to price out arthritic gel cushions for the big ones. I got some bacon chondrotin gloucosamine for their hips. (Thanks for the recommendation friends)

Tina! I don't think I knew Liv had moved out! I know you've probably told here, but do tell...new apartment? Roommates? Poor doggies. Our Daisy had arthritis in her hips. Lol@ Fred and now you have turtles everywhere. That's awesome. OMG on the guest asking about the cock fetish. That is just too funny. Wish you'd get that finger fixed up proper like, there, Sister. :)

Donna one tip they gave us tonight about holiday eating was save the carbs for your favorite dessert. We can have rolls and corn and mashed taters anytime. Save it for the pumpkin pie. :) And FYI, no carbs is bad for your body. Carbs are what fuels your body and gives you energy. Women need 45 g of carbs per meal. Men get 60 g. (Diabetics should count total carbs, not sugar). When you snack, attach a protein to your carb. Like 2 T peanut butter with an apple. Protein is what makes you full. Sorry. Between working in health ed every day with licensed dieticians, certified diabetes educators, etc and taking these classes I'm beginning to share everything I'm learning. I'll stop now. Just food for thought. :)

OMG. I just realized that I have to buy my Thanksgiving groceries this weekend. Ugh.

I have a Pampered Chef carrier that fits 9 x 13 pans and it does a good job of keeping food hot. I cover it with foil and wrap a towel around it before transporting. I like it a lot.
Deviled eggs - never can get them looking pretty but I use the spoon to fill them.

It sounds like everyone is super busy! We went out this afternoon and sat in the tent at the end of the valley. Heard a deer strolling in front of us, probably just over the hill, but could not see it. I felt the cold before Wayne did -- really have to bundle up more! If we go out tomorrow it has to be early. Weather is fixing to change in the afternoon. Tuesday is the last day except for muzzle-loading -- not my thing but Wayne likes it.

Love your chicken tablecloth, Janet. When I need an unusual gift, I avoid Dept. stores. A farm supply store near us has some cool things that are unique. They seem to carry new gifts that don't hit the main stream stores until later. We bought a wine bottle holder years ago that is just now finding its way into other stores -- a deer on its back holding the wine in its 4 legs. it was for a gag gift and it was fought over by all.

Getting sleepy - a nap is in order or an early bedtime. see you later.

    Hey everyone.
Went and test drove a Ford Fusion but couldn't come to terms on price so I walked away :( I really liked it. It was a 2013 red with lots of bells and whistles.
So my friend Kim is a huge Justin Timberlake fan. I mean huge. One year for her 40th birthday I had a shirt made for her with a pic of her hubby then a plus sign and 2 glasses of wine with an equals. With a picture of Justin. Well two days ago she posted that the only thing on her "bucket list" was to meet JT. Well today she won a contest. Trip to Vegas to see JT. With a meet and great and a $500 MasterCard.! The radio station posted a video of her calling her sister to tell her and she is so hysterical her sister can't figure out what the hell she is saying.
