Trippy Tuesday

  • notyourmomma 9 years ago
Since this is one of the busiest travel days for the upcoming holiday, I wish those driving or flying, a safe trip. The weather is quite damp in Florida. The temperatures will drop, thankfully. The past two days of 85 degree humid weather had me under the weather.

Don't forget to set your scales back five lbs. today!

Fred and I are going to get the last of the perishables. I'm making the cranberry relish, the rum cake, the sweet potatoes and boiling the eggs. Allison brought over the makings for the white peach sangria. a romaine salad (?) and the turkey breast.

I read the threads but I can't remember half of what I read. Memory is short today.

Sending good cooking vibes and cleaning fairy assistance to all.
Supper is cabbage, chopped corn beef and carrots.

Pictures are the favorite haunts in old time St. Pete. The famous Aunt Hatties for fried chicken, cinnamon rolls, cookies and pies. The Aquatarium where we had so much fun with the dolphin, sea lion and walrus shows. The famous Sand Dollar with the rotating bar and fabulous food.

SP! Here is my post - feel free to drop the original.

I was going to go hunting this A.M but it is COLD and Wayne has meetings this morning so I would have to go out by myself. With the arthritis kicking up, I’d rather not have to go walking all over by myself. Plan B : when he gets back we will go out together. GS will have the run of the place except for “Grandma’s valley,” which is where we will likely park.

Dec. 20 is muzzleloaders season (alternative methods - i.e. bows, spears [- can’t spell the word they use, atlala or some such thing], muzzle loading, whatever. It is Wayne’s time - if he ever has time to learn how to use his bow, he could go bow hunting also.

He has a “permission slip” from the Dr. to use the crossbow, because his shoulder is stoved up. Otherwise, people have to use a longbow. I used one in college and really liked it - not that great but never pierced anything or anyone with the arrow except the target and immediate vicinity - LOL. Don’t know if I could handle it now. But it uses arm muscles, not weather predictor hips, so...........

We are having coffee in the sun room. Sun is just coming up and the sky is pretty. Neighbor down the road is having company early, probably someone wanting to hunt on his property. Will remind GS to be careful in that area. Wonder if he would like to try muzzleloading again? Wayne has an extra one he can use. They are a royal pain, in my opinion, humble as it is.

MissouriFarmWife 5 minutes ago said: → Edit

I tried SEVEN times to post the above complete with pictures, but it kept coming back with "connection reset" and "site is either busy or unavailable" messages. It would post minus pictures so I'm not sure what is going on. The air is now blue in my vicinity and it is likely the blasted internet company messing up again....I seriously doubt GR is "too busy" or "unavailable" as I was in it and looking up recipes. So it is now time to rant and rave at the company, not that it will do much good. But I will persist and find out what is their problem - it is not on this end, for sure.

Karen, SP Strikes again. Funny that we had similar titles in mind. I have to think it is your internet company because I uploaded my pics almost the same time as you post.

I'm learning so much about hunting and alternative hunting than I thought possible. Karen, let your hip be the predictor for your outdoor adventures, please. I wouldn't want you to fall. GS getting the gun lecture is always a good thing. I just heard of a tragic accident this morning, an elderly man was moving his guns around in his case and apparently one fired in his face. He was killed. That kind of accident is random, but always practice safety first.

Oh, I want to see this movie "The Imitation Games" It looks great.

Good Morning Tina! Glad to see you back! Mmmm on rum cake. Is that like fruit cake?Mmm on white peach sangria too! I've never tried that. Your dinner sounds excellent. Very cool pictures of old time St. Pete. I honestly would love to go there someday to check it out. Haven't heard of The Imitation Games. Will go look for a trailer in a bit.
Hope your arthritis isn't bothering you too much Karen. Learned two new terms from you today. "Muzzleloaders" and "Stoved up". Googled both and now I'm the wiser. :) I'd like to try and shoot a target with a Longbow one day. I'm sure my aim would be terrible but it'd make me feel like Robin Hood. :) Hope you can have a nice relaxing morning to yourself while Wayne is out at his meetings. I lost my post this morning too. It said "Technical Issues". :(
I read an interesting article online this morning about Judith Jones who I didn't know about before.
    http://online.wsj.com/articles/a-visit-to-the-kitchen-of-legendary-cookbook-editor-judith-jones-1415376230?tesla=y&mg=reno64-wsj&url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB11550989027533334316504580254630035474238.html&fpid=2%2C7%2C121%2C122%2C201%2C401%2C641%2C1009
At the end of the article there is an amusing paragraph on how she feels about Kale that made me think of you Marie. :) (The Kale Queen). She's just written a book about recipes you can share with your dog which I find a little odd but to each their own.
    http://www.amazon.com/Love-Me-Feed-Sharing-Everyday/dp/038535214X
She is 90 years old and cooks dinner for herself most nights of the week in her lovely kitchen in New York's Upper East side. Back in 1950 she was the person responsible for pulling "The Diary of Anne Frank" off the rejects pile and then in 1960 she championed a cookbook no other publisher would touch "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and from then on became Julia Child's editor. Major culinary authors Jones has brought into print include Lidia Bastianich, James Beard, Julia Child, Marion Cunningham, Rosie Daley, Edward Giobbi, Marcella Hazan, Madhur Jaffrey, Edna Lewis, Joan Nathan, Scott Peacock, Jacques Pépin, Claudia Roden, and Nina Simonds. What a very cool woman.
Temperatures sure cooled down this morning compared to yesterday and there are a ton of branches all over the yard (and some very big ones) that were knocked down after the high winds last night.
No clue what I'm making for dinner this evening. Our new furniture for the family room is supposed to be delivered between 11-1 today and then Jim has an Eye Dr. appointment at 4 so I'll go in with him and grab some groceries. Just discovered a new little Indian grocer that I haven't been in before so am excited to go check that out.
Wishing everyone a most lovely Tuesday.

Yes everyone will be busy in the kitchen getting prepared for T day or as you say traveling for the next few days. Safety first FOR SURE when anyone is around guns! I remember when I was in high school, there was a little short girl named Ruthie, (even shorter than me) and she was always a friendly girl. I noticed I had not seen her in quite a long time. Then one day she came back to school she told me her Dad was cleaning his gun and the gun when off and killed her two year old baby brother!!! HOW SAD:( The painting guys are here and the floors and furniture are covered everywhere. I am so sore from moving and getting everything ready on top of my normal pains. I know what you mean by feeling foggy, Tina. I can't concentrate either some days and this is one of those days. Wishing everyone good luck with all their cooking and preparation for Thanksgiving Day. Dinner will be leftover hot roast beef sandwiches and gravy. I will have mine with leftover mashed potatoes and Den will have his with fries.
Oh yes, I decided on the colour of the walls. I decided on Cedar Key which is a taupe with brown tones. The bedrooms are full of boxes, chairs, china and stuff it is going to take me ages to get it all back in it's place. I am pooped and it makes me feel exhausted just thinking about it! It will be worth it though in the end.
    Later Gators:)

    Hi Tina.

It is so easy to become complacent around guns. We are super cautious and the Grandma safety lecture will be delivered in its various disguises to each GS who shoots them on our place. We generally unload guns before they even go into the safe.

Semi-Automatic pistols are the worse since you can remove the clip and still have a bullet in the chamber. I really prefer revolvers since you can see more easily if they are loaded. Besides, get a holster and it feels like you are in the wild wild West riding the range. Of course, any range riding I do would be in the Gator or on the 4-wheeler (haven't tried that yet but it is automatic, no gears to shift, hurray) since Rocky (my horse) is so lazy and Blue (his) is too spooky to ride safely. Rocky is the one with the blaze on his face in the avatar. and Blue is the roan beside him. They are both old dudes serving as pasture ornaments.

Yes it is definitely my internet company. CENTURYLINK! This happens often and sometimes I can only search one or two pages in a recipe search. Grrr! I am debating whether to try a satellite based internet but that runs double what we have now and I know people who have a bunch of trouble with HughesNet going out during cloudy weather etc. It was irritating this A.M. because I tried so many times. Thank goodness for copy and paste, but still had to hunt the photos to download again and again and again.

We are severely limited in this rural area - only a paltry few companies available, and Fidelity.com was worse than CenturyLink -- definitely a who-cares attitude for their customers -- one dude just said maybe we need another company they could not do anything about their service. In casual conversation with one of their reps Wayne repeated that statement and was that dude ever disgusted. He apologized over and over and I only hope he had influence to ream the turkey who was behind it, since he lost a customer to the almost-as-bad CenturyLink.

It sounds like your TG dinner is planned and doing well. I haven't made anything yet but will either make or buy pie(s) tomorrow. IF I find a good / great / not BLAH / super wonderful pumpkin pie I will get it. Otherwise have ingredients to make one, but then I have to be careful not to overbake / burn the crust. It is a pie-making failing I am prone to having. Sigh.

    Have a good day.

SP Joce! Janet! Your preps should make me blush! I am so laid back today.

Glad you learned some Midwest expressions, Janet. I recognized 2 of the chefs you mentioned - LOL. Sorely lacking in culinary knowledge.

    Cleaning a loaded gun? NO-O-O-O!

I detest the pink - yelow - blue .22s that are marketed for kids. How cute? They look like TOYS for pity sakes. TOYS! Not long ago a 12 yr. old kid pulled a BB gun on a law enforcement officer and was shot. The gun looked REAL! Like a 9 mm automatic! There are now PINK revolvers out -- how stupid! How is a cop to know if it is a toy or real!!! Where were the parents of the kid who was strolling around with a BB gun? In town no less! O.K. - End of rant -- pet peeve # 355. Change of subject needed.

We are going to hopefully go pick up the sun room furniture tomorrow. I am anxious to have it set up so I can start decorating for Christmas. We will have to decide where to put the tree in the sun room etc. That will be fun - haven't had room to put everything up that we want before. The nativity set is slated for the tea cart or maybe shift some plants and put it on the end table currently sitting by the sofa. It will probably be replaced by the rustic one we ordered, but the location is cool.

A.C. and Mel raced past Wayne into the sun room so I had to take a break to shoo them out. Mel immediately booked back into the LR. I had to go round A.C. up but he did leave when I said, "Out! out!" He had escaped earlier and Wayne nabbed him by the gazebo. He is on a roll.

Must go to Silver Dollar City sometime soon. Even if I am Motrin enabled - LOL. Not until after TG, probably next week?

    O.K. -- time to go!

Karen, buying a pie is perfectly fine by me. Our Publix had some nice pies for $3.99 which is cheaper than me making one. And less stress.

Janet, good luck on the furniture delivery. The rum cake is not like fruit cake, it is a recipe from the Bacardi rum company. Of course, it calls for a cup of rum. You make it in a bundt cake pan with lots of chopped pecans and then soak it with a rum glaze. You can buy the Tortuga Rum cake and it is close to what I'm making. It gets better as it ages and it has a pudding mix in the cake. Holiday Rum Cake
I will not be using this recipe Best Ever Rum Cake
Judith Jones is an amazing publisher. She has a 'nose' for cooking talent.

Joce, I'm so sorry that you are wiped out by the painting. Rest up, dear one. I'm exhausted just thinking of all the work you have ahead of you. I love your supper. I like the color choice, Cedar Key. Especially we have a town called Cedar Key to the north of us. That is where they have the stilt homes.

Well, I have to get in gear or we will never get this game plan started.

Oh my goodness on Ruthie's little brother Joce. That's horrible. Can you imagine what the Father must have gone through? That's gotta do something to your head I'm sure. You did a heck of a lot of work Joce. Rest yourself if at all possible. Yum on your dinner. Sounds divine. Yay on Cedar key! Don't sweat about getting everything all put back asap once the painting is done. You can take it slow. It's a month away still 'til Christmas ya' know. :) Take care.
LOVE your pasture ornaments Karen. :) That's a cute phrase. We're similar to you in our very limited choice of Internet providers based on the fact we're pretty much in the boonies. We switched to a satellite based system two? years ago and knock on wood it far surpasses having the dish way up on a mast trying to communicate with the nearest tower. My internet rarely goes down anymore (knocking on wood very, VERY, hard) and before if it snowed excessively or rained or was windy....forget it. I heard the story just last week about that 12 year old boy being killed by police in the park for pulling a toy gun out of his waistband. Neighbours adjacent to the park had called the police and said they figured it was a fake gun but weren't sure. Again, I just shake my head. It'll be fun for you to get the sun room all decorated up. :)
Oh my goodness on the Rum cake Tina. I don't like fruit cakes. But that Rum Cake has my name written alllll over it. Holy decadence Batman! I bookmarked Shandy's recipe. Not that I ever make a whole lot of cakes, but one never knows! :) Super cool on Cedar Key the town. :) That's fun.
Got the kitchen all cleaned up and Jim's busying around the family room getting things in order for the delivery.
My niece (the one that graduated from Culinary College this year) and her boyfriend are arriving this Friday afternoon from the Niagara region to spend the weekend with Jim and I. I'm going to do a fancy dinner on the Friday night, bring them into down town Ottawa on the Saturday for sightseeing and lunch and then have a more laid back dinner that evening once we get home. They'll head back Sunday afternoon. Really looking forward to it.

    Hi Janet.

I am taking a break and typing on the IPad. no GS yet so am hoping he overslept and is not on the road having car problems. Really need to remind us to call when he is not coming, just to be sure.

What company do you use? Of course, it is not so apt to be available here since we only have a few that are in this area. We are sort of kind of in the boonies ---- a mile from the highway ( if that road can be so named, it is a narrow, twisty, two lane country road.) but our road is, as many times described, a dirt road filled with potholes.

Rum cake sounds wonderful, Tina. Except I would have to eat nitty bitty piece because rum and I do not agree. Would probably sub Kahlua.

OK Homer wants out so I best let out before I have a cleanup.

You know how Fred takes a list (written in HUGE BLOCK letters) to the store and will invariably come home with a wrong item. Well, yesterday, he came home with mushrooms instead of marshmallows. I don't imagine the mushrooms will puff up on the sweet potatoes.

Your plans for the sunroom sound nice, Karen. How are the cats with the tree? We are debating on Christmas decor this year. Last year we skipped the whole production because we were working so many hours. When I was working a 60 hour week and sleeping the rest of the day, there was little point in decorating. Maybe the Angel tree would enough twinkle to feel more festive. Take a photo of the new stuff, so we can see what you got.

Janet, I think you would like the rum cake. It stays really moist. The cranberries are on the stove, the orange, cinnamon are smelling delicious. I've got the icecream maker cylinder frozen to make cinnamon ice cream. Allison has insisted on a salad and I have to make my maple vinaigrette so the flavors can meld. Please take a picture of the new furniture.

I'm still worried about making gluey mashed potatoes. I have read every description and recipe possible. I do believe adding hot milk will be the key to keep from having a pot of glue.

Tina - the cats go nuts with the tree so we always secure it with fishing line when we have it by the mantle. My decorations are quite eclectic - no special theme. We like to pick up some new ones esp. if we are somewhere that has unique items. Have not heard from the furniture store so will have to call before we waste gas on a 100 mile trip tomorrow.

Mushrooms generally don't puff on sweet potatoes, but they do add pizzazz to gravy. GSs demand marshmallows, esp. on TG. LOL.

Back in the sun room again. I had to clean the "master bath" where Mary has her stuff, and the floor must be dry enough by now to finish the job. The sink is a copper one that has to be cleaned / polished often. After a couple uses it looks icky again but since I LOVE the sink I will put up with it.

Hmmm - gluey mashed potatoes? I think I had that happen some time back. It seems like I used the wrong type of potato but now can't recall. I usually buy the basic white potatoes (Idaho). Guess that is no help at all. Sorry I don't have any suggestions. I haven't added HOT milk (too lazy I guess) so don't know if that works.

    Have a great day.

We use Xplornet for our Internet provider Karen but I believe they're just in Canada. And don't get me wrong....yes, our Internet is usually 'up' but we don't get even the base speeds for uploading and downloading that they say they get even in their base pkg.
I know it's hard when Fred comes back with incorrect items Tina but it does make for an amusing read. :) Your house must smell ah-mazing. That's awesome. And double yum on cinnamon ice cream. And maple vinaigrette!
Delivery guys showed up right at 11. They were downright grumbling at having to move the existing furniture down to the basement for us. The salesmen had indicated to us that this wouldn't be a problem. Jim answered right back but it made for an uncomfortable and not pleasant delivery. I'll email the manager to describe our customer 'experience'.
In the mean time Jim is trying to wire back all the equipment, DVD player, PVR, etc. to the TV (another Sens Game on tonight) and I'm rearranging the rug, fluffing pillows, cleaning and moving furniture 'just so'. I will take a pic once it's all in place.
Just realized I forgot to thaw anything for dinner. Oops. Lucky I'm heading to the grocery store and can just pick something up. :)

Morning! Hi Tina, it's good to see you!! Haha, I'm going to go ahead and set my scale back by 10 just to be sure :P Good luck at prepping today! Cool Pics, I would love to go to the Sand Dollar, the rotating bar sounds fun! HAHA at Fred and the grocery list. Mushrooms instead of Marshmallows!!! Oh my, Oh my!

Hi Karen! Lol at Wayne having a “permission slip”. Bri is VERY good at using a crossbow. They have archery at the GS camp that they go to often and she always brings home bullseye certificates. There is an archery school down the road from us and I may see about getting her in classes...if it fit's in her busy schedule :) Ugh on your computer troubles, I would definitely look into getting another provider if I were you.

Cool article on Judith Jones Janet. I have and love “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”. I have cooked a lot of good meals out of it :) It's right next to my “Joy of cooking”. I hope when I'm 90 I'm still cooking up a storm! Cool on the Indian store. We have one about 20 minutes away that I LOVE! I have been seeing recipes calling for fresh curry leaves and I have seen them there, so I would love to swing by there one day and pick some up. Have never tasted fresh curry leaves, I don't think? Have fun :)

How sad about the little 2 year old Joce! Why would he be cleaning a loaded gun, that just irks me. Ugh on all the hard work you've been doing, and how tired it's making you. It will all be over with soon and you'll be so happy with the results I'm sure :) The color you picked sounds perfect!

Slow start to the day. No kids to make us move quick lol! Went out and played pool last night for a couple hours. I'm guessing it was 21 year old night. All the youngins' were out drinking and being stupid and obnoxious. They were acting like it was their first night out drinking and they all had to impress each other by who could cuss the loudest and be the stupidest. Sorry, ranting. I was that young once (okay 9 years ago haha) but I don't remember being that vulgar and gross. Going to get some laundry done, clean the impossible to clean jets in the tub (maybe) and that's it! I pulled out some ground turkey and I think I'm going to use it in making a stuffed zucchini, sauteed with veggies and topped with cheese. Have a great day everyone!!

    Happy 2 days before Thanksgiving!

Oh Tina! LOL @ the mushrooms. Poor Fred. Or maybe it's Poor Tina! :) I bet your house is beginning to smell like Thanksgiving. So you are boiling the eggs today? I was going to do that tomorrow night...but...if tonight is good I might do it then. I have used hot mild the last few times and I think it helps. I kinda hate dirtying that extra little pan, but seemed like every cook on FN was doing it that way. I also think that the kind of potato makes a difference. Wasier potatoes make waxier mashed. I also stopped using the hand mixer and started using the hand masher. I think that may have helped more than the hot milk, actually, but I don't really know. Thanks for sending the fairy assistance. I need it. lol Pass some of that white peach sangria this way, please!

Hi Karen, I'm always envious of the sunroom. We don't have many windows...well...there are windows in every room except the kitchen, but they just aren't in the right places. lol (House was built in 58). UGH on your internet woes. That is so frustrating. I know we used to get that same message when two people were posting a new thread with pix at the same time. (Which is not as rare as you'd think. SP is a live and well). We say "stoved up" here in the Southeast, too! :) But muzzleloader is a new one. I think buying pie is perfectly acceptable, too. I don't make many pies. Mom was always the pie baker for the holidays, but never made her own crust. I guess I may be making more of them, now. LOL @ the pasture decorations. A copper sink does sound very pretty.

Good grief Janet! What's up with the customer service these last few days? Were they playing head banger music? lol Love the Judith Jones info. Very interesting. Sounds like a fun weekend ahead with your niece. Is she working as a chef or anything using her degree yet?

Hi Joce! Cedar Key sounds very pretty. That's an awful lot of work for someone else to be doing the painting, huh? :) But I know you will be thrilled when it's all said and done.

Hey Michelle! SMH @ the 21 yr olds last night. They are so much sillier now than when we were that age, don't you think? Enjoy your kid-free time. A slow start to the day is not a bad thing.

Just a sandwich for us for dinner. Then I will start some of my TG cooking.
    Biltmore House Citrus Cranberry Relish
and I'm making a baked mac n cheese of Ina Garten's. I have plenty of recipes, and a few posted, so why did I spend an hour looking for a new one on Sunday? lol But I did. I guess I will just make it a little more liquidy than it calls for. I may go ahead and make that gravy tonight. It will take me forever to peel 2 dozen eggs. I'd lke to do that tonight, but, Bryan's home so I probably won't. He hates the smell. I guess it would be better to do that tomorrow night than to hear him fuxx and whine about it all night tonight. lol

    Have a good one!

Well how cool is that that Bri is such a great archer! We never got to do anything like that when we were in Girl Guides! :( I should really take a look at "Mastering the Art of French cooking". Bet I could borrow it out of the Library first to see if I like it. Not to be racist but I always view French food as pretentious and frou-frou so I've never really properly checked it out. :)
Okay Marie...you're making me very jealous over here...and hungry! First I was going to say "Throw me over a devilled egg or two" and then I read "DUNGENESS CRAB!" My oh my. You are a lucky butt. (Heard that expression recently and thought it was funny) :)
Lori, I think boiled eggs would keep in the fridge no problem for at least a week. There....just googled it. Shells on...good for a week. The salesman from Lazy boy just called to see how the delivery went so Jim told him about the delivery guys complaining and he said that shouldn't have happened and he'd report it. I don't necessarily trust him but...
I may still send an email. We'll see. No head banger music though. :) Cynthia had been working as a Sous Chef at a Golf course this past summer and fall but it's more or less closed for winter and she also works at Zehr's (a grocery store) in the Deli department cooking and doing platters etc. I think she'd like to do something more but she's good right at the moment. She told me she and her boyfriend have big news to share with us. (I'm guessing wedding bells?) but we'll see. :) I'm also envying your Mac n' cheese. NOM. Does Bryan like to eat devilled eggs?
A copper sink sounds gorgeous Karen!
Gotta head into town. Still have to move a couple of pictures around but for the most part we've got everything re-arranged and Jim got all the TV parts and pieces put back together so the Sens Game is a go. :) LOL!

I wouldn't make the filling for the eggs, but I'll get them cooked and chilled ahead of time.
The sweet potatoes have roasted and I'm waiting for them to cool to peel, add butter and season. I have the struesel in a separate bowl and will put them together T-day. House smells very cinnamony and quite festive. I have a pile of apples for my apple cranberry tart. The nuts are toasted and packaged. I've got some turkey wings in a pot with carrots/onions/celery to make some stock for gravy making. Cake and dinner will be my last chores today.

Michelle and Janet, you are right, it is an adventure to read Fred's shopping malaprops. The mushrooms went into our eggs this morning.

Aha, Karen, fishing line and the tree. That would keep it from falling over. Our issue is long dog tails knocking all the ornaments to the floor. And Molly liked chewing on them. My favorite color is copper. I adore it. I would polish it each time myself.

Marie, you and I are on the same wave length on prep. I am not lucky enough to lunch on crab. Booo. Cabbage will be fine.

Lori, I hate the fact you had such a terrible shopping experience. I have to say last year, I had a similar experience in our Walmart. It was distressing.

We have had our fair share of poor customer service, between cable, delivery folks and rude personnel. Makes you wonder how some people get hired in the first place. I just couldn't imagine behaving in that manner.

Joce, what a sad story about the baby. I can't imagine how the family could cope.
Good luck on putting the pieces back together. Take pictures too.

Got 3 loads of clothes folded. Does anyone else especially HATE folding whites? I do. I hate matching socks....it's the worst! My mom asked me to make a broccoli rice casserole and to pick up some rolls for TG. I have never made broccoli rice casserole....guess I need to do some recipe searches! I'm not taking anything to my dad's considering we won't even get over there until long after everyone has eaten. Go figure both families planned on eating at the same time. Nothing I can do about it...

YAY! Just learned we are getting off at 2 tomorrow! I won't feel so pressed to get so much done tonight. lol

Michelle, I don't put rice in my broccoli casserole, but no reason you couldn't stir some in. I'd probably leave out the water chestnuts if I was adding rice (I don't add them all the time anyway).
    Creamy Cheesey Broccoli Casserole
I usually take this but not this time. I'm going to make it on Friday for my TG with Bryan on Friday.

Do y'all find your eggs hard to peel if they've been in the fridge for a while after boiling?

I'm going to have to tell my co-worker about the fishing line and the Christmas tree. She worries about her dogs turning it over when she's at work. One of them likes to pull the tree skirt out and lay on it.

Janet, Bryan will eat deviled eggs. But he wants sweet pickles in them, and I put dill. YUCK YUCK and DOUBLE YUCK. I hate sweet pickles in anything. lol I will have to make him a few of his own. BTW you can count me in with Jim in the no sweet in or on my meat club! :)

Think I'm going to get the chicken leftovers out from Sunday and do a little schmoozing with the reheating, and maybe make that gravy tonight. Bryan was rushing me Sunday and it didn't get to roast long enough for the veggies to get good and soft. And I couldn't get my lazy butt in gear in time to get it in the crock pot that morning. lol

He points out that cooking the eggs a little longer and allowing them to chill in the refrigerator after cooking will also make fresh eggs easier to peel. from some food scientist named Harold McGee. If you have fresh eggs, harder to peel, suggests adding a 1/2 tsp of baking soda to the water but then the baking soda makes them more smelly. Bryan would not like that at all. A 45 minute soak in ice water made them easier to peel.

I only did 18 eggs. I cooked a few strips of bacon to garnish them and some will get horseradish pickles. I accidentally opened a bag of corn in the freezer and it spilled everywhere....down all the shelves and on and around all the stacked food. What a mess. The bag was stuck to some ice, I yanked it and corn flew everywhere. I'm ready to call it a night.

Tina you did a ton of stuff today. Hope you get to take it easy this evening and put your feet up. How's the sleeping been going?
LOL Michelle @ folding whites and matching socks. I don't mind laundry. It's the cleaning toilets and cleaning ovens that I detest in household chores.
Sweet pickles in devilled eggs eh Lori? Never tried that. I'd try one just to see. Dill would be nice too. Are you talking dill pickle or dill fronds. :) (Isn't that a funny word) :) I bet your turkey/chicken gravy is going to rock. :) That's excellent you get off at 2 tomorrow.
Jim got a new prescription for glasses from the Eye Doc. so we'll go to Costco at some point and choose him some new ones. I got some groceries. That new Indian Grocer is really awesome. They carry Indian, Turkish and Iranian foods. I'm very excited. They had a meat counter and everything and I even got a couple of very yummy Veggie Samosas. I saw Harissa in there which I've heard Tina and Dahlia talk about in the past and oh....I picked up a bottle of Maggi sauce since everyone was talking about it recently. :)

    Hello all.

Pork tenderloin "something" tonight. have left overs from last night and not much else in the house but Thanksgiving stuff. Save but hot dogs, I guess! No red cabbage Janet. Since I have been sick the last few weeks, the thought of red cabbage makes my stomach churn, lol. Thinking simple, tenderloin medallions and a salad. Easy peasy!

Have a pumpkin pie in the oven.........missing my Cayce right now.........he always makes the pies.................Two days before Thanksgiving is pie making day, it's tradition .........don't like this sharing of Cayce, but I know he is having a great time wandering the woods of NC. Oh gee..........bears! Ok, not liking this sharing even more now!!!!!

Tina..........are you drowning yet. My whole lanai is flooded as is my front walk way. It is really coming down now!

    Sleep Sweet All.....................as always................

Red Cabbage making Kimmer's stomach churn? What is the world coming to? :) Hope you feel better asap! We just can't allow this to happen! Tenderloin medallions and a salad sounds lovely. Sleep sweet back at ya GF.
Ended up making Shake 'n Bake chicken and had
    Shake N Bake Potato Balls
in the freezer so pulled those out.
Just got a fire started. It's been a busy day. An even busier one tomorrow.

Kimmer, the pool is at its fullest, we are going into spill stage soon. Olivia drove back from Orlando in this monsoon and she said the roads were terrifying, sheets and sheets of rain obliterating the streets. I'm just happy she is safely back from Animal Kingdom. Hearts and hugs for missing your pie baker Cayce. He could be here helping me with my over crumbly crust. Dog gone it. I just balled it back up and shoved it back in the frig for tomorrow. Feel better sweetie. Or as my kids once wrote on a get-well card. "Fell Better Soon" How appropriate with my wobbly stance these days.

My dogs don't like corn. I took them out to clean up my mess and they said, 'NO"
Fred had the frig full of the Arbor mist peach chardonnay (hate the stuff by its self, in sangria, it is good, by the way), club soda, and diet Cranberry Gingerale. I have no space for my food. I told him to get the cooler, put the wine in it and dump in the ice and reset the ice maker to high. I have to have space for this food. I simply can't shove this stuff willy nilly. I have to have a plan of attack.

Enjoy your cozy fire Janet. And bummer on the hot tub leak....I know I'm late to the game. I'm still chopping.....close your eyes, just cleaned all the brussel sprouts, they were so dirty this time around. The salad is washed.

Weather channel just said we had over 1000 lightning strikes in the last hour. There is no sound of letting up. We may have to break out canoes by tomorrow. You would be so proud of Molly in her thunder shirt. She is calm and cool.

GGGGGGGood Golly, Miss Molly! That last lightning strike was in our back yard. The house shook from the rafters down. My dog is now in my lap and has scratched me from top to bottom. Shheeeesh. I'm surprised we still have cable and internet. I will shut up now and not jinx the power company.

Wow on your weather system Tina! :( Hope it goes okay and the lightening has subsided. Does Lola react to storms as strongly as Molly and Charlie do? Glad Liv got home safe and sound. A day at Animal Kingdom sounds like an awful lot of fun.
My poor old Sens are losing 2-0 to St. Louis. Bummer.

Just read an email from Costco. They're selling Turducken's for $99.99. Shaking head. Feeds 15 people. 8.8 lbs. Stuffed with apple chicken sausage.
