Tropical Tuesday

  • mbelisle 7 years ago
Hello to all - it is actually Tuesday evening for me and I suspect it is very early Tuesday morning for most everyone else.
Absolutely an awesome time meeting Janet, Jim and Benjamin when I was in Ottawa. I have lots of fond memories of that trip. We had Dim Sum in Chinatown (hopefully the photo uploads right)
I am finally back up and running on the internet, having run out of data this morning. Something that was never on my radar in Canada but here, you pre-pay for a certain amount of data and if you run out, you have to go out to the store and "top up". Kind of like pre-pay cell phones but for the home internet.
The grocery store conversation has made me nostalgic for places like SuperStore, Walmart and Safeway. I love the local markets here but there are some things I do miss. We have a place called "Cost U Less" which is a bit like Costco but smaller and without the membership. It sells some Kirkland products so I am sure they are related. The locals here call it "Cost U More" because the prices are really high, mostly because they carry the North American products, not the Asian products we typically get here.
Figuring out care options for independent seniors is definitely a challenge. My mom was always very opposed to the idea of leaving her home. We tried various home care options but the reliability was terrible and more often than not the waiting caused more issues than dad having to take the responsibility himself. That could be just that in Regina there weren't that many options available to them so maybe it is better elsewhere.
So supper here was a bit of a charcuterie with salami (3 types), corned beef, pastrami, cheese, olives and carrots. Not much in terms of cooking but it has cooled down to 38 degrees so cold is the name of the game today. Hopefully tomorrow we can do something different as it promises to cool a bit overnight with some rain.

    Have great day everyone

Morning!! Love the picture Michelle! That is too cool that you got to meet up with Janet, Jim and Benjamin :) Wow on having to prepay for internet. Lol at the "Cost you More" :P It is good though to have American products you can't typically get available though. Yum, I'd go for a charcuterie tray for dinner!

Just got the last kid off to school so now it's coffee time then I will head to the gym. After I have to drop off 41 softball uniforms at the print shop to get personalized for the new season. The girls also just got new jacket pullovers with their numbers on front and the logo on the back that I passed out last night. They all loved them.

Also need to get Bri's birthday present ordered along with her best friend Emma's present who's birthday is the day after Bri's. I'm getting them both the same thing (they have been wanting them) something like this, but I think I'm going to see if I can buy the sweatpants myself and take them in to the printing shop to get them done more personalized with their numbers on them as well.

Sorry it's a long link lol!

Dinner is undetermined like usual this early in the morning. We have some leftovers so maybe that, but I need to make sure there is enough. Wishing everyone a great day!!

Love the title of the thread Michelle. Especially since a major snow storm is supposed to hit us this afternoon. :( Although the method is different we too ran out of date for internet this month. Last month too but we grinned and beared it. This month it happened on the 18th. Our Internet company gave us 20mb? and then if we use it they slow our speed. So slow that it's painful painful. So this month when they forewarned us that they were about to do that to us again, we called and bumped up our package to 50mb. Plus we groaned and complained enough that they gave us the next two months free and said that their rate scale is being changed and the fees are going down in two months, so we shall see. Anyway....we're happy now. :) LOL @ Cost-u-more. Your supper sounds lovely. Hope you get better weather tomorrow.

Wow on the 41 uniforms Michelle! The sweat pant idea is great! Very cute! Question re: IMI11. If I have reviewed a recipe in IMI, do you want it re-reviewed in IMI11?

Not looking forward to today on one hand but happy to get it over on the other. I have an appointment this afternoon to see the Specialist re: my kidney stones. Apart from the freezing rain that may be occurring on our way I'm nervous to hear what he'll say. Cross your fingers for me please.

Jim and I think we'll choose a lunch spot close to the hospital and head out around noon.
Haven't figured out what to make for dinner. Have a Hockey Game to watch tonight.

Bren...if you see this in the next little while....can you refresh my memory as to that restaurant you like around the Pinecrest area was it? Was it near the Civic Hospital? I think you said they had the best burger in town?

Lol Michelle, I just knew it wasn't Janet who had started the thread today with Tropical in it unless it was a drink or something:) I don't envy you high humid temps at all! A very different way of charging for your internet usage, indeed. Funny how the locals call that store "Cost U More". Your dinner sounds perfect for such a hot day. Love the pic!

Great idea to get Bri and Emma the same type of sweatpants for their BD's. Have you finished making most of the things for Bri's BD party yet? Hoping you have a fun filled day.

We are getting freezing rain at the moment then it will turn into snow. Den is working from home today. We are having chicken something for dinner and that is as much about dinner I know about at the moment.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Careful driving this afternoon, Janet. I hope everything goes well with your appointment. All I can remember about that restaurant Bren mentioned had the best burgers, was it was located on Carling Ave.

I am guessing about it but there was something about the onions Bren mentioned that this might be the place, Janet?

    Good morning everyone!

That is a different way to pay for data usage Michelle B ... but then again I don't even know how we pay for ours. I'll figure that out soon. Your charcuterie sounds wonderful. I'll have to pick up stuff at the grocery store next trip for something like it. Love corned beef especially when it's cooked right.

41 uniforms Michelle, that's a lot of girls! What color are this year's uniforms? Cute idea on the sweatpants.

Wishing you good news with the specialist today Janet. I reallly am. Be careful driving too, hopefully the bad weather will wait to arrive until you are home.

Stay warm and snuggly inside today Joce. Chicken something sounds good. I need to figure out what to make tonight too. Probably will pull out a pork loin and bake it with veggies ... a one pot meal.

I'm tired and exhausted today and won't do much. DH is really wearing me out and even though I'm handling everything it's a lot. I called the social worker last night because I just couldn't take anymore and ask for some help. I can't put him in a "home" against his will so she will probably order a psych evaluation and if concluded he can't make rational decision then at least I can put him someplace and have him held against his will. Either that or he needs different/stronger psych meds to calm him. He's so uncooperative and so hateful at times, gives me a hard time about taking his other meds and he's obsessed with the files and money and because I move all the important files to my office he's in there going thru them and I have to watch him so he doesn't loose anything. I've tried to explain the house in SC to him and I can't tell what he comprehends about it so I dropped the subject and won't bring it up again. He sees everything packed in boxes and I'm sure that adds to the confusion but he is so time consuming I haven't had time to start unpacking. I know too he needs more mental and physical stimulation and again I just can't do it and too he doesn't cooperate with me. because of insurance his therapist can only come out so many days for so much time. Even if the private nurse comes to help he avoids them. He's just an overall huge PIA!

    Good morning.

That is surely a different system for internet, Michelle B. LOL at Cost U More, although I guess they would have to recoup their shipping cost of American type goods.ugh on the heat.

We have unlimited amount of data, Janet, and I hate the showdown after it hits 3 Gigs.aargh!

Cool uniform idea, Michelle. The girls wil enjoy the sweats, I'm sure.

Joce, we have a sunny day, highs about 53F. I would like real winter and snow, the fleas and ticks will be bad this summer otherwise.

On our way to Rolla then St. Robert, then home and let Fritz have an outing before we take GS swimming. Busy day today.

Aw Linda. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Indeed, try take it easy today. Of course it's a lot! It's a heck of a lot you're doing and holding down. I'm glad you called the social worker and asked for some help. It'd be good if they could get a psych evaluation for now and then move on that. Better for everyone at this point in time I would think. Gentle hugs.

I say yes Janet to adding another review to the IM II :) I have been at least! Crossing my fingers and toes for good feedback from the doc. Janet.

I have not completely finished the decorations yet but working on it Joce! A lot of the things will have to wait until the day of. Yikes on the freezing rain!

Hi Linda! We have 12 girls actually but each girl gets 3 different color shirts plus the coaches shirts got done :) I'm so sorry about the difficulty with your DH. When my Grandfather inlaw started getting Dementia it was a struggle trying to take care of him for his wife, but luckily she had her kids that came and helped her often. Eventually he did get put in a home though after much debate. I can't even imagine how you do it ob your own.

Sounds like you have a busy day ahead of you Karen!

Aww, Linda, as I recall your DH had a few anger outbreaks before he had his stroke and you were concerned about it then. Maybe that is somehow related? I think you were very right to call for some extra help and get an evaluation done on him. HUGS)))

Karen, We have unlimited high-speed internet and it never slows down thankfully unless we get totally cut off and when that happens they are really good at fixing the problem. Have fun in Rolla and St. Robert today.

Linda, I hope your day is a calmer one and you get some support from the social worker.
The uniforms sound great Michelle and what a lot of work for you pulling it all together - awesome energy!

LOL @ Cost You More Michelle B. Your charcuterie sounds wonderful!! I don't think that I could live in Fiji, I get very grumpy in humidity.
That's a great idea to get both girls the pants and have them personalized Michelle, they are going to love them.
I'm sorry Janet, Tuesdays are my long day so I didn't see this in time but Joce is correct about Bowman's. I hope that your appointment went well. Did you like the pillow?
Thank you Joce. Chicken something sounds great, we both love chicken. I'm glad that Den is working from home. The roads aren't too bad now but they were just awful earlier in the day. Your salmon dish looks great to me!!
I'm so sorry Linda. You've been through so much but there is only so much that a person can take before they break. You need time to yourself to regroup. Hopefully the evaluation will give you the answers that you so need. Dealing with an obsessive person is exhausting. A one pot meal sounds good.
Enjoy Rolla then St. Robert, Karen.
Today I'm making How Do I Make Egg Drop Soup as an appy for Keni's cooking day. I'm going to play with some ribs in the pressure cooker and serve those with a salad.
We have unlimited high speed internet, the high speed part is a real joke!!

SP Linda. So sorry for the rough times you are going through. I hope the psych evaluation will help you. At least you recognize your limitations and want the best for him. The caregiver role is certainly a tough one. Prayers going your way.

    Hi to all.

Wayne was really tired so I drove GS to swimming practice. He is already at poolside setting up. Wayne should return soon. Meanwhile the warm balcony is making me sleepy.

Hello all. MichelleB so nice to see you!! Just a quick hello here. Janet, hope your appointment went well.
Cayce's Dr. appointment yesterday came with some worries. Dr. is concerned that he has lost 15 POUNDS since his last appointment in October of last year. I had NO idea he had lost that much! Knew he looked thinner but wow! Kinda feeling like an awful mom right now. Know I shouldn't but darn, should have realized! Even Dr. remembered how Cayce used to cook and asked him what's going on! Used to tell your mom you were a bit chunky and she would say it was because you were a budding chef and naturally ate everything in sight and what you cooked! So Dr. ordered all kinds of blood work to start with. Checking his thyroid as well. Hoping just a growth spurt like his brother did, which the Dr. reminded me of. He has gotten a lot taller recently. Anyway, wont borrow trouble till we get the blood work results.

Linda, my heart goes out to you but you are still doing amazingly well. So glad you asked for help. These decisions can be hard but perhaps the evaluation will shed some light on the situation. Prayers and hugs for you!

    Sleep sweet all................as always............
