Tuesday Trips

Can't think of a good title so that will have to do.

Woke up early. It is foggy and no breeze outside. Should be in the upper 80's F today, humid and hot. Quite different than Shona's chilly weather! Winter is a long ways off here. Although the woolly worms are still predicting a long, cold one.

Still have not read all of yesterday's post. Had a fire Dept board meeting last night and my allergies are still bothered from being outside in the humidity. Don't know what is growing that has my name on it but the sinuses are sure working overtime.

Should be going to Rolla this morning to run an errand, pick up flea prevention pills for Fritz, and sneak in a breakfast trip to Hardee's. Am addicted to their pork chop and gravy biscuits. Or maybe the new IHOP if time permits. Then back to St. Robert for Rotary and the usual errands and chiropractor. Twisted my back slightly so he will likely work on the ribs again.

    Have a nice day everyone.

OK I finally read the rest of yesterday's post.

Linda, congrats on the new grill. We grill once in a rare while - should do it more often! Grass fed (organic) free range beef, according to a friend who raises beef cattle, can be either super tender or tough, I guess depending on the individual animal. The health benefits are sure great, esp. compared to the grain fattened beef we get at the super markets. I don't have a close source, but really need to look into it.

Shona, beef and gravy (on mashed potatoes) are one of my favorite comfort foods. Yum! Will have to see about finding Sketcher's Bob shoes -- I need a good pair of comfy shoes. I can't stand going without socks, though. Even in the summer!

Joce, I think our next dentist appt. for cleaning is in December. Really have to locate the little card they gave me. They call the day before but if I like having a reminder tucked in my billfold.

Happy birthday early , Marie. 61 is young!

Sclaire, the abbreviations here threw me also. The one I have not yet deciphered is CRAFT. Ha ha.

Glad you had a nice visit Janet. Ribs etc. make perfect leftovers and no cooking!

I think I am caught up now. Have a nice day everyone.

    Good Morning Everyone!

Sorry your allergies are giving you grief Karen! Enjoy your breakfast out. I'm going to make a tomato and cheese omelette with hot sauce for our brekkie this morning. Good luck with all your errands and hope your visit to the Chiro makes you feel better. CRAFT means "Can't remember a frigging thing". :)

Jim is going to re-parge some of the garage cement wall today as well as paint the back wall that he primed last week. I'm not quite sure what's on my agenda. I do have a pile of things I brought back from Rainy River still piled on the guest room bed so I guess it'd be nice if I incorporated it all and made it disappear! :)

I have a friend and her husband coming over for tea tomorrow morning so I do need to bake something. I don't feel like making cookies but I think a pan of squares would be fun. Does anyone have a good easy square recipe to pass on?

Haven't thought about dinner plans yet. To be determined. :)

    Good Morning Everyone.

Believe the wooly worms Karen. It may go from summer to winter quickly. Enjoy the nice weather while it's there. Hope your sinuses feel better. Sinus headaches are the worse. Nothing seems to relieve them. When something triggers seasonal allergies for me I take Quercetin. It's a natural antihistamine and seems to help. Too, I hope your back feels better.
I will still continue to buy the organic grass fed beef just for that reason. It's better for you. Just need to find other ways to cook it that both DH and I will enjoy. I have a recipe from Cook's Illustrated for "Steakhouse Burgers" and will try that to see if it helps to make a more tender burger. The recipes adds a little bread and milk.

I use to love socks but now here in Florida I never wear them. My favorite pair of slip ons were a pair of Minnetonka Moccasins. I wore them till they fell apart. I really must get another pair for our winter here as they are great for a "no sock", slip em on, and out the door shoe.

Not much going on here. Need to go to Home Depot and get a longer hose to hook up the grill to a standard tank and also need to go to Walmart because the portable CD player/radio DH was using broke. That's it for now. Not sure what dinner will be yet but I do have a turkey breast that needs to go in the crockpot overnight so I can portion and freeze it for easy meals another time.

    Good morning all:)

Karen, funny, I don't feel young:D LOL Sorry your allergies are acting up:( Hope the chiro gives you some relief as well.

Janet, Sorry, I don't have a good square recipe for you! Let me know if you find one..I'm thinking more and more about baking these days with the cooler temps:) I would probably just close the guest room door and do something else..LOL

Linda, I love crock pot turkey breast! Great idea for make ahead meals etc:)

Not sure about dinner..too bad I froze the extra cabbage rolls! LOL we do have 1 1/2 left..I raided the fridge last night and ate 1/2 of a cabbage roll cold...so good, even cold!

Have a lovely Tuesday everyone! I'll check back in:)

P.S. Has anyone heard from Corinne?????? I'm not sure if the hurricane affected her & Les?????

Morning Marie! I suspect when you turn 81 you'll be thinking how truly young you did feel at 61! :) I have to say I've never eaten a cold cabbage roll. LOL! Corinne and Les are okay. They left home and then were able to return. Their power was going on and off for awhile.

Hi Karen, sorry about the allergy's! I get allergy's this time of year too and I can only guess it's harvesting of some kind? I'm taking oil of oregano everyday instead of antihistamines and it's working great so far. The allergy med's give me heart palpitations so I'm staying away from them. I love IHOP! I haven't been to one in years, I use to go all the time when I lived in Vancouver. Good luck with errands and the Chiro today!

Hi Janet, I have this cookie bar recipe, use it as a base and add whatever you want. The coconut can be left out. I've also added dried cranberry's, lemon zest and white chocolate chips. The possibilities are endless ;) Chewy Chocolate Coconut Blondies

Hi Linda, those steak burgers sound good! Good luck shopping today, hope you find everything you need. I love the idea of a turkey breast in the crock pot. :)

Hi Marie, Lol @ eating the cabbage roll cold and being left with 1-1/2...at least it's a good lunch for today :)

I thought I had more time but I have to get the kids off to school now. Nothing really planned today except to make it into the city and buy some shoes and pick up a few grocery's and household supplies. I have no idea what dinner is yet! I forgot to take the pork chops out of the freezer yesterday! I'll see what the store has for dinner....gotta go!

    Have a good day everyone!

GMTA Shona! I was actually just perusing your recipes and came across
    Chewy Chocolate Coconut Blondies
too! The only thing is I think I only have 1/2 cup of chocolate chips, but...I do have some squares of semi-sweet chocolate so I think I could just chop some of that up instead. Thank you so much! Hope you manage to find a pair of shoes that you love. Have fun in the city!

Hi Shona:) Yeah, that cabbage roll was delish cold! I bookmarked your cookie bar recipe, it sounds soooo good!

Janet, yes indeed, when I'm 81 I'll be wishing I were 61 again for sure:-D
Oh good, glad Corinne & Les are ok....thank you.

Rick left a while ago, I need to get a shower and get this day on the road...

    Have a lovely day all:)

Morning! Ugh, it’s humid here too Karen. My allergies started acting up this morning too :( Enjoy your breakfast and running around!

Sounds like Jim has his work cut out for him today Janet! A squares recipe would go great with tea, I’ll have to do some digging and let you know what I find :)

Hi Linda! Lol, the only time I wear socks is when I have to wear tennis shoes to the gym or the fields.

Lucky you on cooler temps. Marie! Now your making me want cabbage rolls :)

I’m with you on not knowing what’s for dinner Shona. Good luck with your errands!

Got the kids off to school and ran and did some grocery shopping early. They were re-stocking everything, so it was annoying trying to squeeze through and get what I needed. It’s either go early when they are re-stocking or go later when it’s crowded, there is no winning lol.

Michael is back on nights so it’s just me and the kiddos again in the evenings. Caiden has his first soccer game tonight, so that’s exciting :) I have some leftover chicken breast from the other night, so I will incorporate it into something for dinner. Maybe tacos? Wishing everyone a great day!!

Thank you Michelle! I had that one bookmarked already but it's always good to see it again to remind me. Don't have the cream cheese on hand so am going to proceed with Shona's Blondies. Thanks again.

Wow, do you and Jim ever slow down Janet? You are giving Michelle and the rest of us a run for the money as they say. I guess though now is the time to do things before winter sets in.

Found a CD/radio ... the last one at Walmart but no luck on the converter thingy for the grill. Home Depot doesn't carry it, if I order it from Coleman it's on back order, and phone lines are still down at Bass Pro Shop. Oh well ...

Those coconut blondie bars look great Shona. I love anything coconut! I too get palpatations from allergy meds so I either suffer thru them or find something natural. Hope you find the shoes you are looking for.

Never had a cold cabbage roll Marie. My new obsession is grilled or roasted cabbage slices. Oh So Good! even cold.

Bummer on Michael working nights Michelle. Shift work is so hard. I remember my father working shifts and how hard it was on him. Woot Woot on Caiden's first soccer game.

I think all the signs are there Karen for a snowy cold winter. Hoping it's wrong though. I know, you can always come here ... plenty of room!! LOL!

Thanks Linda! I hope not to slow down for many, many years to come. I can see myself in my '90's :) rocking in a chair with a blanket over my lap reading a book during the day, but for now there are too many things to do. :) How disappointing you can't find the proper converter cord for the Grill. What about Amazon? Or online at Bass Pro? I think I'd like grilled cabbage slices. Shift work is hard. Jim used to do it when we were first married. He started out working in an Iron Works on the lathes etc. as an apprentice machinist. SO glad he changed professions!

I've got quite a bit done this morning. Jim's done his parging and is pleased. The Blondies are in the oven. I cleaned out a drawer in my bathroom where I keep my toothpaste, make up etc. I have little partitioned organizers but it's good to swab them out every once in a while and it looks a LOT better now! Also took everything out of one of my kitchen cupboards. It has those dividers in it for cookie sheets, chopping boards and such and I was having a hard time with thing flopping over and such. Cleaned it all out, put it back in different places and we shall see how this arrangement works.

Also chatted with my cousin's wife who is helping move my Mom on Friday into the Senior's apartments. I gave her the low down on what should go and what doesn't need to. Am quite excited to see how Mom reacts to the move. I really hope she is happy there.

Plus I should also qualify my comments re: slowing down. Neither Jim nor I (especially I) :) do any amazing outrageous stuff and there are PLENTY of things around here that need doing that we turn a blind eye to for the moment. :) But it is awfully boring if you are retired and home all day and don't have little projects to keep you occupied right? :) And bottom line Linda...you never slow down either. :) Here's to being happily busy!

Hi Janet, yes any chopped chocolate should work. Though even a 1/2 cup of chips would probably be ok too! I hope they turn out for you! :) I have to short list that Jarlsberg Chicken, yum!

Hi Michelle, good luck to Caiden at his first soccer game! Hopefully you find something easy for dinner tonight :)

Hi Linda, bummer you couldn't find the converter piece for the grill. Hopefully you can find one online?

I went to the Shoe Warehouse and got a pair of Bobs. Just a plain black canvas pair. The pair I've worn forever were a dark grey wool-like tweed. Hopefully the canvas holds out for 6 yrs too. I also got a pair of light beige suede-like booties. I opted for the flat heel with grips rather than the slippery bottom with 2 inch heel. I need something to walk the dogs on gravel roads. :)
I'm craving those blondies now too, so I'm going to bake some before the kids come home. They will be happy! :D
Dinner will be plain ol' pasta n' sauce. I'm too exhausted to come up with a better meal idea, lol. I have some salad to use up as well.
I bought the huge family packs of chicken breasts and chicken thighs, ground beef etc..So I need to divide and freeze and come up with a meal plan for the week.

I hope your Mom likes the retirement home too Janet!

When my MIL retired a few years ago she got incredibly more busy then when she worked 12 hrs a day as a nurse! We can barely get a hold of her, lol. Pete's Aunt is 71 and she just left for a hiking trip to Nepal! She's always been an adventurer though ;) I hope to have just a scrap of their energy when I'm in my 70's! :D

Our house is a never ending project of little things. Sometimes I wished we lived in a condo with little to no maintenance, lol ;)

Had to order the hose/adapter thing for the grill from Coleman and it's on back order and won't ship till end of October. Aaaghhh!! I guess everyone bought everything out with these storms we've had. Oh well as they say. I can still use a 1 pound disposable tank if I really really feel the need to grill. In that it's a Coleman product I thought it best to stick with a Coleman adapter ... don't need any surprises with propane.

I feel like I don't do anything anymore since DH had his stroke but what I am doing is different now so in reality I am still doing a lot ... just a lot of different.

I am so wanting a pair of Minnetonka's now Shona. I'll have to treat myself and get a pair for a Happy Birthday to me gift since LD and Bella don't drive. LOL!!

Shona I just cut into the Blondies. They are very yummy and they were very easy so I thank you. It'll be perfect for tomorrow's 'tea'. :) I did end up cutting up the Semi-sweet chocolate and it worked great. The more chocolate the better right? :) I'm done buying heels. If I'm not comfortable, I'm not wearing them. :) Glad you found not only shoes but also boots. Pasta, sauce and salad sound excellent to me! Wow on Pete's Aunt in Nepal. That's awesome!

I checked out the Minnetonka site Linda. I LIKE them!

I love a similar online store called Manitoba Mukluks.

I'd kill for you dinner Marie. :) It sounds wunderbar....providing that is...that the veggie doesn't turn out to be broccoli or cauliflower! :)

Prepped my dinner and made a run to the Post Office to mail off a parcel. Jim and I watched a pre-season hockey game last night. Our Sens vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs. We won of course. :) Another game, same team tonight. SO tickled hockey's back on.

    Time for a hot tub.

Laurie...you haven't been around much. Come catch us up please!!!!

Good afternoon and hello to all. Nice to see you Marie! Fried chicken sounds great right now! Will have to short list that. Hope your Mom is happy and adjusts well in her new home Janet. Must be such a relief to have her finally moving. Pasta and sauce with a salad is pretty much what we had last night. Did have some ground beef but my spaghetti sauce was quite bare since I had no green pepper, mushrooms or fresh garlic to throw in. After dinner I did find a can of mushrooms in the pantry I could have used. Oh well.............

Well, it is my cheese night and I do have everything I need for that. Hubs went out this morning and got some fresh cuban bakery bread and a couple other things we needed for tonight. It smells sooooooo good sitting on the counter, I might not be able to wait for dinner and pinch a piece, lol. He said the shelves at the store are starting to fill up again. He had no need to go to the meat counter so don't know about that yet. Surely by now?????!!!!! Been crazy busy the last two days with work but tomorrow is looking a bit slower so I will venture out to the store. Need to make a list and stick to it. Hopefully will find all I'm needing and wanting. If not in our store will go into one of the Clearwater stores. Would like to do some baking myself but need to get some eggs and cream cheese. Couldn't get any the other day when I was at the store.

Hope all enjoy the rest of the day!

Phew. I'm good with peas, spinach or asparagus Marie. LOL.

Decided to do fried tomatoes on the side of the chicken and spaghettini. I made fresh pesto out of basil from the garden this afternoon. There's nothing like the smell of fresh basil on your hands!!!

I've been reading back lol busy with work and stuff and too lazy to post.
We had chicken in the crockpot with mashed and peas.
My boss is away for the next few days so it will be even busier. Rachel is back at college but she wants to come home for the weekend. She does have a new boyfriend. He is from Wilmington but he goes to Umass Amherst which is close to Westfield state. He is friends with my friends son Travis. Rachel texted last night that Travis told her boyfriend that frank and I are "cool".
