Tuesday's Snowing and Sleeting

  • mommyluvs2cook 6 years ago
Morning everyone! I know I haven't been around much, but I've been helping my Dad out with my Mom the past few days at their house, I brought them a couple of meals also, my Dad is a great cook, but I don't want him to have to worry about it :)

School got canceled today because there is a very high chance of snow and sleet this afternoon. I swear that they cancel school around here for EVERYTHING! I'm thinking they are not wanting the kids stuck up at the school though when it's time to leave because of icy roads which is understandable and parent's these days will sue over anything, especially if a bus loses control. School may be canceled tomorrow as well.

Not sure what dinner is yet, haven't thought that far ahead! Have a great day everyone!!

    Good Morning Everyone.

How is your mom doing Michelle? How long do the doctors estimate her recovery time before she can resume normal activities? Nice of you to help out and bring meals. Cooking takes a lot of time and to have something ready helps a lot.
OMG about school being cancelled just because it might snow/sleet but like you say people look to sue over anything.

Going to finish this car thing today. Will either pick it up late this afternoon or tomorrow and be done with it. May go out for something to eat tonight for dinner and take a break from cooking. LD won't be happy because it's a little too cold for him to come with us.

    Good Morning!!!!

Hi Michelle. Very sweet of you to help out your Mom and Dad. So nice that you live close enough that that is possible although I do know they're not right next door.I imagine the kids reaction to school being cancelled was positive! :) Same questions re: your Mom that Linda asked. When I read the thread title this morning I thought it said "Snoring and Sleet". That's because Jim snored SO MUCH last night, plus had a nightmare so I had a horrible sleep. Ugh.

Well, Congratulations on the new car Linda. I'm so pleased it all worked out. Enjoy your dinner out. So sorry you didn't like how your chili turned out. That does happen on occasion. Your ham dinner sounded fabulous.

"Dunkirk" was an awesome movie. If I'd learned the details about that part of war in school I've forgotten. Amazing.

Nice your Mom still enjoys her time in Florida over the winter Laurie. LOL @ paper in the soup. Sounds like something I'd do!

I have a big pot of chicken broth simmering on the stove. We are having a guy come over today to clean our pellet stove and our fireplace. Jim is going to stay home to wait for him and I have to head into town for a dental cleaning appointment. Ugh.

Am having Sliders and oven fries this evening.

I'll have to look for "Dunkirk" too Janet. Sounds like a movie we would like. Uugh on the bad night's sleep. You couldn't win for loosing between the snoring and nightmare. Good luck with your dental cleaning. I like the way my mouth feels so clean after one, so much so I think I don't ever want to eat again and then that thought lasts 10 minutes and is over.

Glad to hear you're helping your Dad and Mom out, Michelle. Same question here on how long it will take her to be better. Bummer on the kids being out of school today but I can certainly understand why. Glad you were able to pop in for a bit.

Pleased to hear about your car decision, Linda. Enjoy your dinner out.

Too bad you didn't sleep much b/c of Jim, snoring and a nightmare to boot, Janet! Good luck with your dental cleaning today. We have seen "Dunkirk" and quite enjoyed it as well. I bet your house smells awesome with the chicken stock simmering away.

I know what your Mom and Kimmer are talking about with the cold weather in Florida, Laurie. It is a different kind of cold.

Not much happening here today but it is supposed to warm up compared to the colder weather we have been having. We had leftover pot roast last night for dinner and tonight we will have pork chops.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Hi Linda! My Mom is doing great, they sent her home a day early from the hospital since she was doing so well. Her recovery time is about 4 weeks and then she will have 1 more surgery, with a lot longer recover time, but she will hopefully be all fixed up and be able to live a pain free life. She has been in pain for years so I'm hoping this works. Congrats on the new car! Enjoy your dinner out :)

Oh yes Janet, the kids were ecstatic about school being out today haha. I guess I just don't understand school canceled over a little snow, it's not like we will get feet of it, maybe an inch lol. How do snowy places manage if we can't? Too bad on your bad sleep last night and Jim's snoring :( Yum on chicken broth and ugh on the dentist cleaning, good luck!!

Hi Joce, yum on pork chops!

Decided on pulling out a chicken fryer. Going to do a rosemary and thyme rub and stuff it with lemons and onions. Roasted potatoes and steamed broccoli on the side :)

Yum on pork chops Joce ... do you do bone on or boneless? I still find the cold in Florida refreshing and rather enjoy it.

Living with chronic pain is the pits Michelle ... I hope it all works out for your mom.

I've been wanting to make oatmeal cookies for sometime now so today is the day. Trying a new recipe which is just oatmeal with a hint of cinnamon. I did add walnuts and white chocolate chips. The oven is preheating and I'll make big cookies ... I'll keep a few out then cool and freeze the rest so I don't feel "obligated" to eat them all before they go stale.

Hi Joce! All your food sounds yummy. Nice to see the sun outside isn't it! The roads were not nice going in to town but better on the way home.

Michelle your chicken sounds awesome. Nothing like a roasted Chicken.

Nice on Oatmeal cookies Linda. My Mom used to make them for my Dad when I was growing up. Yours sound delicious.

I stopped by the grocery store on the way home. Haven't been in it without Jim in a long while. LOL. It is a completely different shopping experience 'with husband' and 'without'. I had a jolly old time and did a good poking about.

Linda's Italian wedding soup for lunch.

The guys did a thorough cleaning on the pellet stove and fireplace and we're all good to go now for another year.

You may remember a couple of months ago our Dyson vacuum just stopped. Joce had mentioned how it might be plugged and then it would kick off so the motor wouldn't burn out and she was absolutely right. Jim took it out this morning for the first time since then and it started to work. He poked around a bit and found a "Tums" right in the hose. It had probably lodged itself right inside and then over the last while disintegrated enough to fall in. LOLOLOL. What a laugh.

Yes Janet ... shopping with and without your husband is a different experience, LOL! I much prefer to shop without too so I can look around in peace. That's great news your vacuum works and was only clogged! Dysons are expensive and not having to replace it is great.

The oatmeal cookies came out really good!! They stayed nice and thick, didn't spread out much, outsides slightly crisp with gooey soft middles. I'm not a big fan of oatmeal cookies but for some reason had a craving for them and even better with nuts and white choc chips. I got 22 (3" across) cookies.

Funny Den and I were just talking about your vacuum, Janet. super that is working again. We had to wash our filter over the weekend so it is good to go again. We also have a "Filter Queen" vacuum which I also love.

Yum, I love oatmeal cookies, Linda.

Nice to hear your Mom will eventually be pain-free, Michelle.

Lol I NEVER grocery shop with Michael. Especially if he's hungry, we always end up with stuff we don't need haha. Plus like Linda said, he rushes me also.

Glad the cookies came out good Linda, I need to Pin that recipe for future use, Michael and Bri love oatmeal cookies!

We have to wash our filter too Joce, it's a Dyson but I don't think they are all they are cracked up to be. Works like any old thing I've had before!

Currently 29F. My Dad, who lives about 25 minutes away from us said it's sleeting bad and they just sent him home from work. It's my real Dad, not my step Dad, with my Mom, whom I call Dad also lol. Confusing! So we should be getting it soon! Snow is supposed to be soon after that maybe? We will see!

YUM on your oatmeal cookies Linda. Now you've got me wanting to bake something. :)

LOL @ the Dad's Michelle. It's nice you have two. I miss mine lots.

Almost ready to take the broth off the element and let it start cooling down. I tried to re-jig a bird feeder outside that the deer keep getting in to but I don't think my change helped. I don't want it so high that I have to get a stool out to put seed in it and of course when the deer stand on their hind legs they can reach pretty much whatever I can. Oh well. Jim and I went out for a hot tub which was lovely. Then I came in and prepped dinner. Had extra hamburg so just turned it into meatballs which I'll throw in the freezer. I used to enjoy a Meatball sub once in a while and I haven't made that in eons.

Good afternoon and hello to all. Is a delightful 72F here at the moment but suppose to start cooling back down tomorrow. Low of 33F predicted and breezy which always makes it feel much colder. I just told Chloe she better enjoy the rest of the day scouting her perimeters of the porch and pool area!

Funny thing with your vacuum Janet! Glad that was all it was. So good to hear your mom is doing well Michelle. Hoping the next surgery does the final trick! I love oatmeal cookies and now must make some soon! I hear you with the husband going grocery shopping with you. Mine does quite often and it's always a treat when he doesn't go, lol. He doesn't really rush me but I always feel like I need to hurry up and don't get to just look around at stuff.

Where has Shona been? Have I missed something??

Tis Tuesday so y'all know what that means for me. Yes, yes my glorious cheese night!

Enjoy the rest of the day all!

Hi Kimmer! I think the Porn people freaked Shona out and she's not comfortable 'chatting' in ODD anymore. She pops in to IMI11 on occasion. YAY for Cheese Night!!!!

Just learned one of my good friend's is retiring. Hurray!

LOL "Porn People" Made me think of an old old movie I think was called the Pod People, lol. Well, I'm sorry about that if that is the case. In my opinion, if you ignore them than they eventually go away. I personally will not let anyone or anything ruin something that I so enjoy! But that's me!

Hi everyone. Getting some snow but hopefully not a lot. Nice on the two dads lol I had stepdad but he was a loser and never called him dad. Your lucky.
Had chicken fajitas for dinner with rice.
Glad you got the car worked out Linda.
I will be getting a new car this summer. Rachel is getting my car. She is giving me a little money for it but only a few thousand way less than book value but to give her my car I need to have something to put down on the new car and give her sister something so it’s fair.
