Tuesday's Tea Ball

  • chuckieb 9 years ago
    Good Morning Everyone!
I'm on the look out for a new tea ball. I have two. Just basic ones. One huge one for a pot of tea and a small one for a cup. I'd like a neat one this next time. There's a zillion different types out there now especially with tea shops being a big thing these days. Also known as tea infusers or tea eggs, they gained popularity in the first half of the 19th century. By the time of Queen Victoria, no respectable British household would be without one. Wikipedia says :
A tea infuser performs a similar function as a tea bag, a later American invention. The infuser is generally a small mesh or perforated metal container or covered spoon that holds tea leaves, in varying sizes to steep single or multiple servings at once. Common shapes for infusers include spherical, conical and cylindrical. One style of infuser is a split sphere with tong-like handles to open its mesh container.
The tea infuser in the middle picture is of one I actually bought my SIL as a stocking stuffer this past Christmas. :)
Busy day in our house today. We have Lazyboy coming to deliver the little table that was defective. We have Embers from Perth coming to look at the Pellet stove (we think it needs a new part as well as our annual cleaning) and then this afternoon I have my Book Chat at the Library. Sonia Sotomayor's "My Beloved World" is the book this month.
This evening Jim has a networking due at a local Golf Club and the speaker is going to be talking about starting up your own consultant business so that's fun for Jim. I'll just wing dinner. Still have a couple of pieces of Chicken Parm in the fridge from leftovers so may do like a Sub with them. Sens Game on this evening.
Talked to my Mom yesterday and she met with a Realtor so guess it's all systems go. She told the woman that she didn't want to sell until June or so though so there's no real big rush....yet! :)
    Wishing everybody a great Tuesday!

Cute Tea Balls. The second one cracks me up. Angie day for me.
The idea of moving sends shivers through me. The realtor loved the house. He is nice.
I hope Jim enjoys his evening. I could eat leftover parm for breakfast. Have a good time at book club, Janet.

Hello. all. Have a good day.

    Good morning.
Moving can be a real hassle. Is your Mom moving closer to you? We have talked about whether we would move or stay put when we are older. As long as health is good, we plan on staying here. Not too many retirement communities allow two horses, a dog, and four cats! Bwahahaha!
I had a tea ball like your third picture don't have any idea what happened to it. I have two mesh types and could use a better designed one. Some of the ones available now are really cute. My tea stash needs weeding -- some of it is super old. And I could use
the cupboard space for fresh tea!
The big snow event for tomorrow has been downgraded to ice with a bit of snow, then rain. It will al shift South. Still calling for rain today, temperature only in the fifties.

Have fun with Angie Tina and post a pic of your nails for us to see afterwards! Glad you like the Realtor. Will he help you find a new place too?
No Karen, Mom will stay in Rainy River. Right now she lives a ways out of town and will move to the Senior's apartments in town. That way if she loses her driver's license eventually she'll be okay. She has no pets so that's not an issue. I know she'll miss gardening though and the apartments don't have any spot for that. I think that ceramic tea ball is beautiful. You should go on a search for yours! Glad to hear the weather forecast is a tad better for you.
Lazyboy has come and gone and the new little table is good. We had some Cara Cara oranges (similar to blood oranges) for breakfast along with some Raisin Cinnamon toast.

I have a couple of tea infusers and they are both metal or mesh types, Janet. LOL I went on Amazon looking for them and they have all sorts of them and many are just too cute:) LOL so if you have nothing to do sometime check them out. Sorry to hear about the thing on the roof of your mouth:( Maybe it is a side affect from the antibiotics you were taking or from your inhaler or something? I hope it all heals and gets sorted out soon. I am sure Jim would be an excellent consultant. Holy! You have had chicken everyday since Saturday! I just couldn't do that, I would be more than chickened out! We only eat chicken about once a week. Glad your Mom is still thinking of going to the Senior's apartments in town. Is she getting things all ready for her big yard sale too?

Tina, I am very pleased you like the realtor and he loved the house. It makes it easier to sell when everything is on an even keel like that. Yes pics please of the new design Angie does on your nails today.

Karen, We plan to stay in this house as long as we can as well. It is a very low maintenance house. The only thing would be hiring someone to mow the lawn and do the snow blowing when Den is no longer able to do it. This neighbourhood is already kind of a retirement neighbourhood with very few younger people living in it. Glad your big snowfall has been down graded. We are supposed to get about six inches within the next day or so. Bummer:(

I am think it is nice enough for me to go to Foodsmiths and a couple of other places this afternoon. The roads are clear and so are the sidewalks. We shall see how it goes? We had hot roast beef sandwiches for dinner last night. I think we will have pork chops tonight at least that is what I am thinking so far unless I see something more interesting when I go out.

    Wishing everyone a marvelous day!

Janet, if you Mom likes gardening, could she look into container planting? Some places have small balconies or porches that you can grow veggies or flowers on, as long as they are containerized. I am not the greatest gardener, but if we do move to a retirement immunity, would look for one with that capability. I enjoy having plants around, my brown thumb has even morphed into semi-grayish even if it isn't really green yet..

Joce, our home is not low maintenance. I would have to hire work done if iI lived alone. As long as Wayne is able to handle the bigger chores, I can mow yards, feed horses, etc. Haying -we'll, that is another story and it would take a very patient person to teach me how to operate the farm equipment. And weather is a consideration, even in MO. I don 't do ice.

Yes it would be difficult for you handling everything there if you were alone, Karen. You have such a big place with many things to keep up, on your very large property. Plus you are so far out in the country with difficult roads to travel on. I like gardening, but even that I keep to a minimum now... only flowers and herbs. Oh my I don't think I would be doing haying either!

LOL Joce! We do eat primarily chicken it's true. Jim's Dad (who is also named Jim) also loves chicken the most and always orders it when he's eating out in restaurants. So much so that the family used to call him "Chicken Jim". :) Mom hasn't said if she's done anything more towards her yard sale. It's a big enough house and there's stuff EVERYWHERE so I am nervous at how much she has got done and how much more she needs to do. Getting someone to clear the driveway and mow will be easy when the time comes. I have a good friend who is 82. She and her husband want to stay in their home as very long as possible and just this week she is meeting with a bunch of people to learn about what is available to seniors. She learned a local Retirement home will make up 10 freezer meals if say you are going in for a hospital stay and come home and need a hand. There's CCAC who will arrange people to help with house cleaning and she's trying to get the local Sobey's to think about delivery out to the rural areas for seniors who find it too hard to drive in and do all their shopping, come home, climb the stairs and put everything away. With our aging population it's interesting to see what will come of it all. Have fun at Foodsmith's. Yum on Hot Beef sandwiches and Pork chops.
I don't believe the Senior's apartments in Rainy River have balconies or porches or even a little sitting area outside. It's sort of plunked down with a parking lot behind it and that's it.
Embers is here now cleaning the pellet stove. They're such a good company.

BRR! It is cold out there! I went to Foodsmiths and a couple of other places. I also stopped at my soup ladies place and now I know what I am having for lunch the next couple of days. Borscht and a hearty beef veggie and macaroni soup. I bought some of those Cara Cara oranges at Foodsmiths to try, Janet. The sign said they were very juicy sweet and low acid. LOL Everything I bought was heavy. Cabbages, celery, oranges, red grapefruits, apples, huge lemons, avocados etc. I asked if I could have lighter bags. Thankfully the nice woman packed them nice and light for me. I got home just in time b/c, it is starting to snow quite heavily.
    LOL @Chicken Jim:)

The temps have been up and down that's for sure Joce! Sounds like you had a good shop at Foodsmith's. Do be careful with heavy bags, you don't want to push it yet! I always LOVE to hear what you get when you visit your Soup Lady's place. :) We really enjoyed the Cara Cara oranges, hope you do as well.
The Book Chat went well and I was pleased. Jim has headed off to his Networking Due. It's snowing here as well so I told him to be sure to drive safe.

    Hey everyone!
The cleaning left my mouth sore because I'm not a diligent flosser. Got reprimanded more than once for failure to wear my mouth guard. Teeth in front have noticible wear from the grinding. And an old filling needs to be redone. Ugh I hate going to the dentist.
Washing machine died. It came with the house which we bought about 9 years ago so I guess it's time had come.
Dinner was pasta and sauce very garlicky. Which Frank complained about and Rachel loved. Can't win.
    New car is awesome!
Janet we need our pellet stove serviced. We haven't had it done ever but can't find anyone local that does it.

Back from chiropractor and errands! The weather has shifted to the South so we are only in the 1 - 3 inch area. Raining now and freezing stuff later and maybe snow by morning! We really needed the snow as we are way behind for this year. The ice and freezing rain I can do without.

Boo on the washing machine dying, Laurie. Our dentist is the best one around but NOT inexpensive. We do have dental insurance so that helps.

I know the type of Senior apartments you mentioned. I would not do well in an apartment, and definitely not without a way to grow herbs or veggies or sit outside for a while. Wayne's sister lives in one and really likes it. She has a cat, but the company will not allow any more pets to enter because of two bad apples that ruined it for anyone who wants to move in there. My cats go with me!

Laurie WEAR YOUR MOUTHGUARD! (I'm not a diligent flosser either! I prefer those soft picks) (And I hate going to the Dentist too) Argh on the washing machine dying. What kind of new one are you looking at? With only Jim and I at home now, the max amount of loads we do per week is two so it's pretty easy peasy. You're double that of course....plus 3 girls, so....:) Amusing that Frank with his Italian roots complains about too much garlic. :) That's great you're pleased with your new car. It's lovely. Who did you buy the pellet stove from? Wouldn't they offer servicing?
Glad you got all your errands done and are home safely Karen. It's snowing big time out there right now here. :( Unfortunately my Mom lives in a very, very small town so there is no choice in Senior residences. There's one. That's it.

Wayne's skater is also in a small town and it sounds like she is the same type of setup. They do have a yard and a place to sit outside for a while, that is about it. No way to garden or even have some houseplants. But she likes it. Missouri does not have a Senior Retirement Community, at least not the type I would comfortable in. Although I have seen ads for some in other states. Like Joce, I would prefer to stay in our home as long as possible.

The big weather event has officially fizzled for us. South MO and parts of Arkansas are due to get up to six inches of snow. So much for the big ice event. GS has no school tomorrow. He is not happy, because he will miss swimming practice. It is raining off and on, not due to freeze until early morning. Our stove / insert is due to be installed on Friday and Saturday. At which time temperatures will be near 60. So we won't need it - LOL.

See you tomorrow. I am on the iPad so typing is apain!
