Tuesday's Treats for Bella

  • chuckieb 7 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! Looks like another lovely day out there. Jim and I have to do a run into town for some groceries and bird seed this morning then home to get ready for guests arriving for dinner tonight.

I'll do an appy plate of prosciutto, salami, cheese and crackers and a veggie tray with dip.
    Entree will be
Mesquite Grilled Chicken In White Barbeque Sauce
    Fontina And Asparagus Tart
    and maybe a salad.

How did your venison turn out Karen? Have you decided if you're heading to Silver Dollar City today for the Bluegrass Festival? Sounds like it would be a fun jaunt.

How did you make out in the garden Joce?

Sounds like you are being very well taken care of while immobile Laurie. :) So great your friend made you a custom table cloth!!!!

Linda, my pics today are for Bella. Just a small part of our front yard that is ENTIRELY covered in her favourite food. They do always look very cherry though I must admit, and in some parts of the lawn there are also little violet like flowers growing. Wonder if she would like those as well?

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Hi Janet.

Can't think of the name of the flowers but they are pretty little violet ones for sure. Our wild violets are quite large and blooming the spring, probably no actually a violet! We have some in the flower bed and zillions in the woods. I brought up a wild iris Type plant to see if it grows well....they are everywhere.

We have an invasive weed called ceresa lezpidoza that is ok in hay but livestock won't eat it as it grows. Weird. Probably in our lower hay field. It is hard to get rid of and basically only goats will eat it.

On the way to the dentist. See you later.

    Thoughts?

When invited to someone's house for an overnight stay or a weekend, and the hosts decide to go out for lunch or dinner.....who is expected to pick up the tab?

    Good Morning Everyone!

You're too funny Janet! That is awesome and yes my darling little Bella would be in Happy Land to have a yard full of dandies. I have no idea if the wild violets are safe for bunnies to eat. I'll have to ask my friend who dries and sends the dandy-candy to me ... she knows EVERYTHING about rabbits. Her knowledge is impressive.

Your menu looks great Janet! Have fun later.
I have no idea about the overnight stay and going out to eat question. I'd be curious ... I would think the ideal thing would be to split it, but because the hostess made the decision to eat out it should be they who are expected to pay ... it was their decision.

Had an early appointment at the doggie dental vet today. Took LD in for his post-op checkup and all looks great.
DH was let loose to be out on his own today to go get a haircut. He should be back soon and we'll pop back out to get something to eat for lunch. I'm hoping after to take some time for myself and get a pedicure since I'm always in sandals or barefeet and they always do such a better job.
Not sure what's going to be for dinner. Kinda get tired of the same ole, same ole.

    Oooo. Good one.
We have friends who we just always go Dutch. We often take an aunt and uncle out for dinner when we stay over. But Dad was adamant about paying the way when we were there. If they are coming and you decide to go out, that is a good question.....I guess if you decide to go out you could diplomatically specify whether it was Dutch treat or not. I usually assume we pay our own way.

Janet, there is a website that dealt with this question: lbeeandmoney.com......I Google who pays when the host eats out and came up with that.

    SP Linda.

Never have had a pedicure but would like to try it one of these days.

I think bunnies can eat most plants but am I no expert.

Hope your dentist appointment went well Karen. Couldn't make that link work.

Glad you liked the treats for Bella Linda. :) You're quite welcome to all she wants. :) Glad to hear LD made out well at his appointment. Hope your DH made out better at the Barber shop than when he went to his Dr.'s appnt. recently. :) Guess they wouldn't make him fill out forms at the Barber's. :) I've only had two pedicures in my life. It was fine. I'm not big on stuff like that though. Don't know why.

The reason I pose the 'who pays' question is just that I'm curious how other people view it. It's come up about three times in the past couple of years with Jim and I when we were at other people's homes. The first scenario we were invited for dinner and overnight and then when we got there they served appys and then said we should go out. We offered to split the bill at the end but they insisted on paying since they had been hosting. (Personally I think this is proper etiquette myself). Second time, we were invited to someone's place for the weekend. The first night they made dinner and the second night they said we should go out so we split the bill. (I also think this is fine). The third instance was when we were invited for dinner and overnight and the hosts slept in quite late (11'ish), so by the time everyone had coffee and a glass of o.j. breakfast time had pretty much passed so they suggested going out for lunch. I offered to pay (and there was my mistake I guess, I should have just offered to split the bill) and they allowed me to. When I invite people I never go out to restaurants EXCEPT if we decide to go touring around and just happen to still be out when everyone gets hungry for lunch (never dinner as I always have things planned way in advance and usually already prepped as well). If and when that happens I expect everyone to just pay own/split the bill, although I kind of feel guilty since I'm the host and perhaps should pay for everyone.
But bottom line....I just find it SO awkward. I don't want to come off as cheap but then again I don't want to feel like I got ripped off either.

Had a good shop in town and got everything I wanted. Tonight's dinner dilemma is that I invited my girlfriend and her significant other for dinner and also said to bring her daughter along as well if she wanted to join us. My friend said she'd let me know if her daughter had to work or not. They've been in town since Friday and I haven't heard anything. Sent her a message yesterday saying they were welcome to arrive whenever they'd like as we'd be home all afternoon and ask her to let me know if her daughter could make it or not. I JUST heard from her two seconds ago that yes the daughter is coming. It is almost 2 p.m. I think that's rude personally but am trying not to get my panties in a bunch. I did thaw enough chicken for 5 on the chance that she might come but the Asparagus tart I am making only serves 4. I'll put some more veggies out....maybe tomato slices and avocado and a veggie tray, but grrrrrrrrr.......

Good afternoon! Goodness you sure have guests over often Janet, I would be frazzled cooking for people all the time lol. Your menu sounds very yummy though :) I wouldn’t know what to do in the who pays for dinner thing. I guess I would have to say, if it was the host idea to go out to eat then the host pays?

Hi Karen, good luck at the dentist!

A pedicure sound great Linda, haven’t had one of those in FOREVER!

Had a dentist cleaning this morning that went pretty smooth. Usually the wait is pretty long, but I was there just over an hour today, so I was happy :) Stopped and picked up groceries on the way home. Grabbed some chicken thighs to cook for dinner, along with some green beans and maybe mashed potatoes? Have a great day everyone!

I'm feeling it on the dinner stuff Janet which is why we don't entertain much anymore. Have been so burnt in the past (or at least I feel that way). Not sure if people just don't have common sense or good manners or both. Even eating out with people has it's challenges.

LOL! It must be dentist day. Happy to hear it all went well Michelle.

Going to get a pedicure at 3:00 and am looking forward to it, especially the massage chair that you sit in while it's being done. I could fall asleep ...

We do entertain a fair amount indeed Michelle and on the whole I really love it. Just once in awhile like Linda says, I feel people just don't exhibit proper manners or common sense. I do try and choose menu items that I don't have to fuss over at the last moment. That helps. The mesquite grilled chicken cooks on indirect so you don't even have to watch over it. Doing blueberries with Limoncello for dessert and they're already washed and in their dessert dishes. Glad your dental appnt. went well. Your dinner sounds yummy.

Enjoy your pedicure Linda. I must say it is fun to have painted toes. And I do love all the funny names of the nail colours. Tell us what you end up choosing. And NICE on the massage chair.

Okay....I'm calming down after all my ranting. :)

Decided against doing the Asparagus tart. A) it's a bit fussy and I would have to store it in the fridge for a bit and my fridge is PACKED at the moment and B) it really just serves 4 people and I don't want to stress thinking I didn't make enough for everyone to have a good taste. So I'm just going to repeat the asparagus side I did on Friday.
    Grilled Asparagus With Margarita Butter
I can totally prep it ahead of time and even just leave it in the frypan on the stovetop 'til I need to cook it. I have plenty of asparagus. :) Jim helped me with the veggie platter and I'll do tomato and avocado slices with olive oil and Black Hawaiian sea salt with fresh ground pepper as well. No carbs but plenty of food.

Update....my girlfriend just messaged me and said her daughter is wiped so has decided to stay home now, so it'll just be the two of them coming. Maybe I need an early glass of wine? :)

Wow Janet. How irritating. It's like when your with people and they always have their cellphone in their hand but when you text or call they don't answer.
My big jaunt today Rachel took me to stop and shop to pick up avacado since we are having taco salad and she ate the last one.
I matched up all the unmatched socks very exciting! I have a chiropractor appt tomorrow. My back is out of whack lol not sure it its from the fall, my couch not being made to lie on for long periods of time or that my foot being elevated puts it in an odd position. But right now it hurts worse than the ankle.
Cool and rainy today but tomorrow is supposed to be 90 degrees.

www.lbeeandthemoneytree.com. (l bee and the money tree).

Feeble memory today is my excuse. lOL.

Janet, you are right on with guests who bring extras without asking or notifying in advance, esp. when plan your menus for four. Saw a wonderful pix on FB......of a text from daughter to mother. Daughter asks what is for supper, mother says steak, daughters reply is since she is vegetarian what is being made for her, mother's reply: "Hunger." Love it. We have a friend who is that way, worse now that she has Alzheimer's and forgets what she told me she did or did not like. I just fix basic pasta dishes since she will eat that. I don't cater much to picky eaters....put the bread and peanut butter and jelly out for anyone who doesn't like what is served. (Well, actually I did that with my grandsons when they went thru a super picky stage. Amazingly, they soon started eating what was put on the table.)

Boo on the back, Laurie. Chiro is a good idea. I am a bit tender from my chiro appt. this afternoon..... He worked on me for quite a bit. Yes, it could be the angle of the couch or the propped up leg. Maybe prop the foot on a pillow? My recliner bothers my back sometimes, too. Love taco salad or tacos!

We are having Swiss steak tonight and a spinach salad. A hot shower and early bed time is calling.

Lol I posted that on Facebook for my daughters friend who recently decided she was a vegaterian. My couch has two recliners in it. So when you lie on it like a couch it isn't that comfortable. Taco salad was good. Becca is trying to eat healthy and she really liked it. I also made some riced cauliflower that I got at trader joes. Directions were vague it said sauté in olive oil and season. Ok season with what? I did garlic, salt, and pepper. Family liked it. Tasted like cauliflower lol but in rice shape.

The pedicure was wonderful. I picked a dark red shade with brown in it. It's pretty and not "in your face red". Not sure of the name because the writing on the back of the bottle is so tiny I need a magnifying glass in addition to glasses. On my home I stopped at Walgreens and treated myself to a bag of Swedish Fish too. I could get use to this.

Your back probably hurts from your fall Laurie, your now just feeling it and sitting isn't helping. Chiro should help. I had stepped up onto a curb (few months ago) and my foot slipped off and I lurched forward to catch myself, didn't think anything of it but the next day I was so stiff and sore and couldn't even bend over without pain, finally put two and two together, it doesn't take much to whack your back out.

Since we had lunch out and ate more than intended I made a Caesar salad for dinner and that was it.
