Tuna Tuesday

  • notyourmomma 9 years ago
Tuna salad, kitchen sink style. I made a huge batch and I'm hollowing out a tomato for me and will make a Tuna melt for Fred. Fruit salad-pineapple, watermelon, mint, blueberries. Bran banana blueberry muffins.

I'm so stiff, I'm doing my best impression of the Tin man. LOL

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uJL8er_tV0

Olivia is house sitting two houses, two dogs and a veggie garden. She said she is picking me a peck of peppers. I hope she thinks a peck is a small measure.

    Couldn't find a tuna-licious pun.
Make it a great day friends.

Good morning Tina:) It's been raining all night ..quite the surprise..I didn't think we would be getting this much..thank goodness no thunderstorms with lightening! Most of the fires north of us have been caused by lightening..I have a dental appt this morning in Chico, just a cleaning:) So I can't stay home and enjoy the cozy rain:)
I love both tuna salad and chicken salad in tomatoes! One of my favorite things:)
I don't know what we will be having for dinner...soup maybe?
Better get this show on the road, I'll check back in later on:)

    Have a wonderful day everyone!

    Good Morning Everyone!
Excellent pics to start the day off with a giggle Tina. I especially liked the last two! :) Sounds like you're cooking up some yummy stuff. Liv sounds busy. LOL @ the peck of peppers. She might as well grab you them while the "oppor-tuna-ty is there"! :) What are Horsey Pickles?
Nice that you met up with your Dad over the weekend for lunch Michelle. That's a very cool different restaurant. I think I would have gone for some of their wings.
Happy Belated birthday to your hubby Kimmer!
Does threading your eyebrows hurt more than waxing Laurie? Sounds like you had a fun outing with the girls over the weekend.
Hurray for the rain Marie! FINALLY! Good luck with your Dentist appointment. Did the sediment in your parent's well settle?
Congrats on your new fridge Joce! I know you've been wanting one for quite awhile. And I am POSITIVE that you will have it all filled up in the blink of an eye! :)
Karen that is so cool that you and your hubby volunteer for the local Fire Department. Cute pics of the cats yesterday. They are well fed. :) LOL! Weird on the kissing bug. Wonder why they call it that? Doesn't bring a good image to mind. Sorry to hear about the baler. And big time Congrats on having been married for 47 years! Wow! That's very impressive and no small feat. Jim's and my 33rd wedding anniversary is this Friday.
Jim and I got back from Montreal late yesterday afternoon. Had a super great weekend from start to finish. The Marco Polo Exhibit was really, really good (although "OUCH" on the $20/ea. admission!). We walked around the Old Port of Montreal and had lunch. I tried my very first Cuban sandwich and LOVED it. You guys have been talking about them for years and I'd never seen one on a menu before. Had a lovely visit with Jim's cousin and his family. They took us out to a Park by the Lachine Rapids Sunday and we had a lovely walk and saw some beautiful scenery. We all went for dinner at an Iranian restaurant that night and had a veritable feast of things I'd not really had before. Very cool. Bought some Montreal style bagels to bring home and put in the freezer and had lunch on Monday back in Ottawa at a Korean restaurant we'd never been to before. It was excellent and we'll go back.
I have the car today and already did a grocery run. Jim's sister, a young friend of hers and our niece are arriving tomorrow for a visit. I have my Book Chat at the library this afternoon but haven't read the book. Ran out of time. Ugh.
    Wishing everyone a great day.
Bought two lovely Rib Eye steaks for dinner and am prepping some
    Twice Baked Spinach Potatoes
with bacon instead of spinach. And my first HUGE beefsteak tomato from the garden! :)

Tina, Those banana blueberry muffins would go great with a fruit salad. LOL cute puns:) Nice of them to let Liv pick a peck of peppers. Could you freeze some of them? LOL if you get a peck of peppers? Try and take it easy today please!

Karen, The very best of luck finding a baler. You are right they are hard to find these days. We don't see bales of hay anymore very much. They have gone to those big rolled ones mostly here, now. I wonder if you could hire someone with one or rent someone's baler until you can find another used one? Just a thought:) Ugh that Kissing Bug sounds terrible! Sending you some much needed rain too! Cute pics of AC and Mel yesterday:)

Michelle, I hope your internet finally got up and running yesterday? How did your Korean tacos turn out last night?

Marie, YAY! I am so pleased you finally received a good rain:) I will keep doing my rain dance now. I hope it helps clear up your parent's well too! Good luck at your dental appointment. I hope it is just a cleaning? I haven't had a tuna sandwich is ages! I might just go and make one for my lunch:)

Janet, It sounds like you had a fantastic time in Montreal. I don't think $20.00 is too much for admission considering their upkeep and bringing in interesting exhibits IMHO.
I am glad you had a good time. YUM! Your dinner sounds just great!

I am just having a lazy day:) We are having pork tenderloin something for dinner and that is far as I know. I made Pat's Bacon Cheese Topped Chicken last night for dinner. I made it with a chicken breast bone in. Den thought it was really good, but I found it a bit too rich for me. I will post it in IMI later on. I better go make myself a tuna sandwich:)

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Karen, Ugh on the kissing bug. I wouldn't wait around to count the squares, either. OUCH on the price of a baler. Good Heavens, that is a huge amount of money. I think it would be worth looking at a time-share baler.....split the cost and use amongst other farmers. If you can time-share a vacation spot or a boat, why not expensive equipment?

I just got referred to another specialist, just after the Nurse Practitioner said, it was unnecessary to see another specialist. She is sending me to a sleep disorder doctor. Even with my cpap, I'm choking awake from a deep sleep, only since she doubled my sedative. The one I'm not supposed to drive while taking. Related? I believe so.

Liv can't tell me the kind of pepper. I asked her to snap a shot and send it for identification.

Janet, Karen mentioned horseradish pickles in her potato salad recipe and I found a semi-homemade version on Pinterest. I made a batch on Sunday and they are pretty darn good in the tuna salad. LOL on the oppor-tuna-ty. Fred had a fit over the ten dollars he spent on tomatoes last week. He had a bad case of sticker shot on veggies. I think the pics of the exhibit were fascinating on FB. It does sound like a true mini-vacation in Montreal. My step-dad and mom loved Montreal when he coached the baseball team. They would regale us with the fine eating there. An Iranian restaurant would NOT be on their radar, however. I 'm sure that was some adventuresome eating. Your ribeye supper sounds delicious.
Super Yahoo! on trying your first Cuban and loving it. They are so good, particularly when toasted and the cheese is all melted.

Fred said, he is eating his tuna melt for lunch.....so what is really for dinner, Tina??.....I guess I better re-arrange the dinner plans. I froze eggplant parm and sausages on Sunday, might as well pull it out and reheat for tonight. I don't think Fred is feeling well. He has been napping for hours.

Laurie, missed your post on threading. I think it is way less painful than waxing and a million times better than tweezing. I will say since my thyroid is so out of whack, my eyebrows are thinning on their own. I have to darken them in so I don't look like an alien. Have you gotten everything packed? Wishing you happy traveling! And whenever MIL irks, have a margarita!

Joce, I love the Bacon Cheese Topped Chicken
recipe but the amount of cheese, bacon and mushroom could be quite overwhelming. How are you feeling? And your eyes?

Marie, I'm so happy you received some rain....now we need to share some with Karen....no more crispy grass anywhere. Good luck at the dentist.

Michelle, so curious to know how the Korean fried chicken tacos turned out!

Off to call the doctor, another appointment to make. Oh well, if it gives me an answer, all the better.

Hi all!! I love tuna salad Tina! Tuna is the only meat I will eat out of a can, but I do buy the albacore kind :) Sorry your so stuff, lol at the tin man though :P CUTE puns!! I hope this sleep doctor can help you out.
Yay on the rain Marie, I know y'all need it! Boo on the dentist, I hate even going for the cleaning. Soup sounds perfect for your weather :)
Welcome back Janet!!! Quaker Steak has some wings that are so hot you have to sign a waver to eat them and you can only eat them in a contest. You can't just get some to-go or order them at a regular sit down meal. Yikes! Michael wants to try it but I told him NO, I don't want to hear his complaining about indigestion the days after! Sounds like you had a blast on your trip! I have never had a Cuban sandwich either! Sounds like you got to try a lot of new foods, cool! Yummy on your dinner!!
Bacon Cheese Topped Chicken looks so good Joce! I can see where your coming from on it being to rich, it has a lot of bold flavors there. Wow on your pic.! Hope you figure out what to do with that tenderloin :)
The Korean tacos turned out great!! I even fried them in coconut oil. Omg the slaw is amazing. I need to leave a review on the blog...
Caiden threw up in the pool at swimming lessons today. Everyone taking swim lessons had to get out and go home. Caiden was fine, he woke up late today and ate breakfast right before we left so I'm almost positive that's why. I'll get him up earlier tomorrow lol! They are adding 10 minutes onto lesson's tomorrow to make up for it, I was a little embarrassed but what could I do? Dinner tonight will be bacon wrapped shrimp some roasted sweet potatoes and some veg. Have a good day everyone!!!

Oh, poor Caiden. Glad that they are giving you some make up time, Michelle, not all camps are that forgiving. LOL on not wanting to hear about the indigestion after Michael trying Quaker Steaks hot wings. I think Michael may want to work his way up the heat ladder. I've seen those Nuclear wings come out in the dining room for another "nothing is too hot for me" addict. I think the server was coughing from inhaling the fumes!! There is a Thai-Mex restaurant in St. Pete called Nitali's. It serves an "inferno" soup that if you finish the bowl, you can claim a prize of $500.00. It is featured on a Travel Channel Show Food Paradise. Only two people have finished the challenge.
Michelle, you haven't had a Cuban either? Oh, my dear, you have to try one. They are yummy. A well made Cuban is a thing of beauty.
Have a nice supper, it sounds delectable.

I guess you're right about the price of admission if you look at it that way Joce. I guess I'm just spoiled as in Ottawa the admissions are more reasonable and in Britain a lot of the museums are FREE! Hope you did manage to have a lazy day.
Horseradish pickles do indeed some yummy Tina. Cool that you made some. The Cuban sandwich I had, had very thinly sliced juicy pork in addition to pancetta too. Don't know if that's normal or not. I too think it's good if you see another Dr. and hopefully it leads to some answers.
Gotta go back and look at the link for the Korean tacos. They sound right up my alley Michelle. Sorry but I had to giggle at Caiden throwing up in the pool. Glad to hear he isn't feeling sick but I can imagine the immediate response of those in the nearby vicinity in the water. LOLOLOL. It's something you'd see in a movie scene isn't it. :) Life's giggles. Yum on your Bacon wrapped shrimp.

Tina, Maybe that sleep disorder doctor can help? I hope so:) I was intrigued with anyone wanting to try that Inferno Soup. I found an article about it and I guess the prize keeps rising. This fellow ate it and won $1,500.00! I wonder how his system was after eating that?
    http://www.tampabay.com/things-to-do/food/dining/gainesville-writer-conquers-nitallys-red-hot-food-challenge/2130690

Michelle, Aww poor Caiden! He must have a sensitive tummy poor wee guy:( Your dinner sounds YUMMY!

Janet, How did your book club chat go?

I forgot Den won't be home at his normal time. He is going for a coffee with his old GF after work. LOL I forgot about that:) He hasn't seen her for many years. Michelle has had some very good jobs at the NAC ( Ottawa's National Arts Center) the Museum of History and now she is working for the Bank of Canada. Her birthday was on Sunday and he was going to be downtown this afternoon. Den is good friends with her HB too! He should be home around 7:00 PM. A good thing I have lots of time to figure dinner out:)

Mr. Picky did not want eggplant parm, so we are having pork roast, salty balls and ratatouille. I have time to reheat. Eggplant will wait for another day.
The horsey pickles are really good. And easy.
Cubans usually have roast pork, or pulled pork, ham, provolone or swiss cheese, sliced pickles, mustard and mayo on Cuban bread that is grilled and pressed. Cuban bread is wide and flat, crusty outside and pillowy inside.
That inferno soup is insane. They wear gas masks to make it. LOL

Hey all, I think the threading is so much better, lasts longer and they shape the wax they just take a strip off and I don't think they usually take the time to cut and shape like the threaders do. I think it hurts the same but my mom and Becca thought it was too painful.
We got our passes to bush gardens through work. With the discount they were $59 per person talk about ouch! Lol
Market basket saga is still continuing. They had a rally with what they are saying was a crowd of 12,000 . Full page ads appealing to the current board pleading with them to take Artie T's offer to buy. It's estimated that the company is losing 10 million a day.
Dinner tonight is taco or taco salad and rice with avacado. Frank came home with 5 avocados and we already had two lol. Rachel make guacamole but he didn't buy chips so she are it with stale pita :)

Shall come back to chat but needed to write this in here before I forget to ask! :)
    A) Has anyone frozen Prosciutto and if so with good result?
    B) You know how you can sometimes use pickle juice in recipes......I have over a cup of juice from spicy pickled beans that I hate to throw out. Any ideas?

The Book Chat was nice Joce. I hadn't read much of the book though I'm afraid so I had to 'wing' it. LOL. I pulled it off though. :) Those are cool jobs that Den's ex-girlfriend has held.
    Tina, what are salty balls?
Wow on the crowd of 12,000 rallying for Market Basket Laurie! You'd think they'd settle soon losing that kind of coin everyday! Raised eyebrows! :) Your dinner sounds yummy. I love avocados. It wasn't until I started on GR that I really started eating them. :)

I have added pickle juice to potato salad to give it a bit of a zing. If I am careful not to overdue. I have subbed it for vinegar is some recipes, esp. if I am in a no-waste mode.

Inferno soup would not be on Wayne's menu. He has, however, decided he likes bulgogi at our favorite Korean restaurant with a little spiciness in it. I guess I should say the ONLY Korean place that he will agree to go to without complaint, it is family run, with authentic Korean cuisine, not Americanized. He ALWAYS orders their medium spicy pork bulgogi. I like to try other dishes. Even their kim chi soup was good, really did open up the sinuses.

I used gherkins in the potato salad. If horsey pickles are made with horseradish my 47 year old marriage would be a bit strained, as my hubby HATES horseradish. LOL.

Sorry to hear Caiden was ill. No fun!

Glad the book read went well.

Tina - there are different CPAP machines out there. Wayne has problems with his sometimes and I guess some of these days he will have to go back to the DR. for adjustment. The DR. is one who tends to push pills, which neither of us like. But the CPAP really helped.

Still no rain. The next chance is Thursday but it has all run East or South. Very willing to exchange our dry air with anyone who has too much rain. Ha ha.

We are having sausage and eggs tonight and Wayne is cooking. So I best get off the laptop and see if he needs any help.

    Take care.

Tina, Thank You so much for that pickle juice link. I totally pinned it. The very first thing on there is using the juice as the vinegar in a salad dressing. This bean juice would be ah-mazing! Very excited! :)
I think it's very fun that you have a Korean restaurant not far away Karen and that Wayne likes it. I LOVE Korean food. Bulgogi rocks. Ooooooo on the Kimchi soup. Never tried it but would in a heartbeat. Moonshine pickles eh? Never heard of them, but I'm up for that too. :) Sausage and eggs....brinner. Love it.
    Night all. Sleep sweet Kimmer.

I edited the above post - used sweet gherkins in the potato salad. I did use moonshine pickles but in another recipe. They are really good - I may order some since we only bought one jar in North Carolina. Oops!
