Hi Marie! It's Remembrance Day here in Canada. We wear poppies to remember our fallen soldiers, and take a 2 minute silence at 11am. Lest we forget.
Almost everything is closed here, which I think is great. That is so nice that so many restaurants offer free food and discounts to veteran's and their family! Enjoy your lunch! Your avatar looks like our outside right now! It's snowing here, but not really sticking at the moment. But looks pretty with the big flakes. :)

Not much going on today, the whole family is home. We have leftover chicken noodle soup and leftover beef stew for lunch and dinner.

Enjoy your day today, ODD family! :)

Yes we wear poppies to remember and the vets raise money to help other vets who need more help etc.
This is a poem by a Canadian which is Famous on Remembrance Day or it is also called Armistice Day here as well.
    IN FLANDERS FIELDS POEM
The World’s Most Famous WAR MEMORIAL POEM
    By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
    In Flanders fields!
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields

How is Sophia feeling, Shona? I hope she is feeling much better.

We are having pork tenderloin something tonight. I ran errands yesterday and went to my doctor. Now of course I have blood tests. I have very small veins as well and they always have to use a butterfly baby one. I will have to make an appointment with the vampires again!

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Hi Joce, thanks for posting the poem! I know that poem by heart! I can't believe it's the 100th year anniversary. I got to see the Flander's Battlefield, France in 2000. I was so taken back by their love and appreciation for the Canadian Soldiers, there and in Belgium. I wish I could of went to all the Canadian war memorials there!

Sophia is much better, thanks for asking! Just mainly a runny nose now, thank goodness the headaches went away because they were starting to scare me. What do the vampires need your blood for? Are you ok?

Hi Shona, enjoy your day at home with the family :)

Thanks for posting that Poem Joce :) Ugh on the small veins, not fun! I used to have to get blood work take ALL the time when I was going through fertility stuff, it's not fun having them fishing around in there for a vein, ouch!

Just catching up around the house today...it looks like it may rain and I have just a few more plants to get in..so I better hurry! Dinner plans got changed last night, so this moved to tonight's plans Chicken Broccoli Uniengs Style Hope everyone has a great day!

Good afternoon and Happy Veterans Day and Remembrance Day.Yes, thanks for posting the poem. I can remember reciting it in grade school.
It was a short work day for me, most people are off.
It's a fairly warm, overcast day here. It didn't rain for the ceremonies which is unusual but appreciated. It sure is humbling to see the vets walking in the parade, the look of pride on their faces always brings a tear to my eye.
We went to Winners this aft and I picked up a few Christmas gifts for the hard to get for people.
Dinner is mostly prepped. I made Shona's roast on Sunday, yesterday I made gravy and put the thinly sliced leftover roast in. I just have to reheat it and cook and mash the potatoes. I'm still not sure what veggie we'll have.
There's a lot of rain in the forecast so we will be clearing the bsmt tomorrow. It's become a dumping ground for the things that the kids don't want but won't donate. Boxes and boxes of school papers. I'm giving Jess a deadline to remove or I will recycle them.
    Have a great evening everyone.

Hope you enjoyed your lunch Marie. That's really nice the local businesses do that for the veterans! Your avatar is SO pretty and you actually have me wanting to see snow. :)
Shona, all your food sound so yummy. Hope you enjoyed your day.....and the snowflakes! :) Glad to hear Sophia is all better.
I've always loved that Flanders Field poem Joce. Thanks for posting it. Hope you had a good chat with your Dr.
Hi Michelle! I thought of you yesterday when Jim and I were on a jaunt and passed by this gorgeous fertile garden that had all these different greens and lettuces growing.
That is unusual that it didn't rain during the Remembrance day ceremonies Bren as it usually ALWAYS does! Good for you getting some Christmas shopping done! I have to do some quick ones myself as soon as I get home so I get them mailed off in time. Jim's sister lives in Alaska and it takes FOREVER for things to reach her. LOL @ the basement being a repository. My store room gets out of hand on a regular basis as well. :)
Jim and I went to a Mangrove conservation area yesterday and I learned a lot. Went out for dinner and drinks with Benjamin. Today we are meeting up with a guy we know for lunch and then Nhan, Benjamin's girlfriend is coming over and the four of us will go out for a nice dinner. I'll give her the ear-rings I'd brought over for her from Canada.
Tomorrow is our last day here. We are both looking forward to heading home but it's going to be awfully hard to say good bye to Benjamin.
    Sleep sweet all.

Joce, thank you for posting the Flanders Field poem..it's the first time I've seen it..very touching..

Shona, Our snow didn't stick at all..I am just so pleased we had snow:) Hope it's a sign of what's to come;)

Michelle, I noticed you added that recipe to IMI, I'll go and check out your review here in a sec:)

Hi Bren:) Rick's (my husband) Dad was in a Veteran's Day parade in Oroville today..it was on the local news, for a brief moment;) He's a WWII Navy Vet, and will be 91 next month! My Dad served during the Korean War, Navy, he's 85! Rick served in the 80's in the Air Force. so I do understand how humbling it is to see how proud our Vets are for having served their country..it always brings a tear to my eye! And when they play Taps, forget it, I'm in tears...

Janet, tomorrow you are heading home? That has to be hard....There's nothing like home sweet home, but leaving Benjamin will be a hard one..thinking of you:)

I think every single Canadian can recite at least a few sentences of that poem from heart Marie. :) Guess we learned it in school and we hear it every year at this time of course. How lovely that Rick's Dad was in the Veteran's Day parade! How is he doing these days anyway? We head home Saturday morning. It's Thursday morning here in Taipei now, so we still have two days to go. Apart from the waterfall of tears that are going to fall from my eyes Fri. night I'll be okay. Benjamin loves Taipei. That's what's most important.
    :)

    Hi.

Happy Veterans / Remembrance Day. So cool both countries have it on the same day. Several chains here offer free meals to vets. We stayed home today except for getting our hunting permits, but lots of folks enjoyed a meal out. The speaker at Rotary yesterday was the Pulaski County veteran of the year...very interesting. It rained off and on today, barely a trace, but the storms went South and East.

We are watching Lone Ranger reruns -- my favorite old time Western! We are on a wind advisory. It is really blowing hard. Our daughter has a huge limb down on her porch. She just texted us about it. Wayne checked but the generator is not running so I guess all is well. So far. Unless a tree is down in the lane. I have to go with our daughter to get her car serviced, so will find out in the morning.

Wayne is Googling the motorcycle he saw at Bulgogi House. He is interested in it, if the price is reasonable.

    Have a good day.
