Vote Today Tuesday

  • pointsevenout 13 years ago
Gearing up to get to the polling place early.
This is our most basic natural right. The ability to control our government. If we don't control it, it will control us. Get out there and vote your mind.

A loaf of bread is cued up today and some ice cream and a tangy curry pasta.

My avatar is a pirahna. I thought they were small fishies. Apparently no one told this fish.
And a question about sanitation on this other pic posted that should not be brought up on a cooking site. Enough said.

Good Morning Points and Everyone to follow! Your tangy curry pasta sounds intriguing Points. That is a large fish alright.
I am going to give Lori's
Im Talkin Quick N Easy Juicy Crispy N Tasty Ovenfried Chicken
a whirl this evening. There's a Sens Game on and I thought this would be good 'Game Night' Food. Probably throw in a couple of baked potatoes and I'll have to think of a veggie. Maybe just a Fresh Veggie Plate. I'm going to do the Horseradish version. Am a little worried about the Duke's Mayo as that brand doesn't sound familiar. I like Miracle Whip actually but if I make it over to the Grocery store I could have a look for something else.
    Have a great day Everyone!

    Good morning!

P7O, that fish is scary as is that lady! your pasta sounds interesting.

Janet, good game night dinner plans. The chicken is yummy! I did the horsey version too but used organic mayo from Trader Joe's & not Duke's (I know you don't have TJ's where you live but I'm just saying I didn't use the one recommended either..)

Pat, that's what we had for dinner last night! My first tomato soup - posting soon b/c it was delish and so easy. Congrats on the feature, that curry does look very good!

I'm making Honey Dijon Chicken Stew for dinner and serving it with simple white rice & possibly a salad. We're planning to go vote once my beau gets off work & hopefully he'll get to leave a bit early. Other than that I'm thinking of baking some zucchini bread today but we'll see where the day leads me.

I finally made the Phyllo Wrapped Pork Tenderloin and it turned out wonderfully! It will be a definite repeater. Today will be some sort of pasta as I will get home late after two appointments. I like the pictures but I only ever get to see the big one that is the avatar for the first person to post. The rest are way way too small for my eyes to make out what they even are. Have a great day!

Morning all, Today is the day I do by focus group on Butter. $100 and they pay for parking. The only thing is I have to drive into Boston, which I hate!
The kids and I took Joy for a walk through the woods and the dog LOVES it, but she was covered in ticks when we got home. I put the Frontline on yesterday. Anyone have any ideas. it was fun for Becca and the dog so I don't want to stop but I know Frank will have a fit when he finds out. We picked off 9 ticks.
Tonight I am making country style ribs with the chinese style red sauce. Rice and not sure if it is gonna be corn or broccoli. Have corn on the cob in the freezer but it sometimes bothers Becca and Frank's stomach.

    Good Morning!
And YES...go VOTE! I slept thru the alarm, so I'm going after work.
Pat, congrats on the front page, and have fun at lunch! Sounds yummy!

So glad everyone is enjoying the chicken, and Janet, I would think whatever you like will work. I'm not a fan of MW or Hellman's, but I think they would work. Don't make a special trip. Sounds like a good dinner. GO SENS!

Hey Michelle, that tenderloin sounds great! We love it. Bought one at the grocery store last night. Have seen a few neat recipes lately, will try something different when I have it next time. I got called away for a minute, so someone else has probably already posted, but, to view the smaller pic you just click on it and a larger one will pop up. Click on it again to reduce it back down.

Dahlia that stew sounds good! And I love zuchini bread...mmmmm...I can smell it now!!

I thought pirahna were small, too! That's some scary lookin' fish!

OMG Laurie...I would totally FREAK OUT if I saw that many ticks!! EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW...did you check yourselves???? OMG...color me as freaked out about ticks as Donna is with spiders...

No clue about supper. Probably something mexican-ish with chicken...hopefully gonna have a chance to look around for inspiration. lol

Have a great day! And HEY to everyone not here yet!

Hi all! Lori - I slept through the alarm too! LOL Like an hour & a half through! So, I'll have to vote after work as well. I usually prefer that anyway, since it can be unpredicatable how long it will take and sometimes it has made me late for work. I was totally shut down with my dinner plans last night - no one wanted to eat what I was planning to make! So, I ended up making Taco Casserole
instead with some garlic sauteed zuccini.
Nice pics again Points! I'm interested to see that pasta recipe.
Have a good lunch, Pat - Chipotle is so good! I had it once when I was pregnant with my second child and ate WAY too much WAY too fast and couldn't be anywhere near it for almost 6 years after that. It made me sick to even smell it. But now I love it!! Congrats on your homepage feature too. :)
Janet, Enjoy your game tonight and the chicken. I need to try that one out - maybe this weekend. I use Miracle Whip in all things that call for real mayonnaise EXCEPT for a Waldorf Salad. So, it will probably substitute fine.
Hi, Michelle! That tenderloin recipe looks really cool!
That stew looks good, Dahlia! I think I'd have to make a few adjustments here and there to "sell it" at my house, put I think I'll put it on the list to try.
Have fun at your focus group, Laurie! My beau has a friend whose house backs up to a wooded area and he uses 2 flea/tick treatments from the vet and flea/tick collars and still can't keep them off his dogs. The fleas won't breed, only bite, but he has to check for ticks constantly. I think nature is more powerful than science in some areas and this might just be one of those! I absolutely HATE ticks - I'm pretty phobic about those! Thankfully, my dogs have never had them. I hope you find a remedy so that you can continue to hike in the woods with her.
Well, tonight is my bacheolorette night and with voting and getting a run in and cleaning the house, etc. it will be a busy night - so probably just leftovers for me!
    Have a great day all!!

Laurie, the idea of tics freak me out! On wikipedia it says they are small arachnids - doesn't that mean Brooke you shouldn't fear them?! ;-)

Hi Lori! The zucchini bread will be another experiment for me using yogurt and apple sauce to try to make it more "guilt free", though I'd really like to try Brooke's Savory Parmesan Zucchini Bread (that one will have to be next).

Janet, this is what I made the other night that you were curious about Tiella Calabrese.

ACK! I vehemently renounce ticks as part of the spider tribe. Classification be damned. Ugh - I think not. :)
Love that Tiella Calabrese recipe. So funny - it is almost exactly like a recipe my mom made when I was a kid, except she had ground beef in there and it was a main dish. Are you planning to post the zuccini bread using yogurt & apple sauce? I'd be very interested in trying that one out!

Yes, do share that recipe if it works out, Dahlia!
Points - I saw your IMI on the curry pasta. Yikes - 1/2 cup of oil doesn't sound necessary at all!! I saw your recommendation for 1/4 cup instead, but looking at the other ingredients, I'm wondering if even that much is necessary. Since I'm just sitting here guessing and you actually made it - do you think it would turn out if even less oil was used? Also, I noticed an equal amount of vinegar, what kind did you use and do you think that amount should be reduced proportionate to the reduction in the oil? One last thing (and then I'll leave you alone, promise!) were you able to taste anything but ketchup in that?? Seems like A LOT of ketchup...

It is a different recipe, that's for sure. I would think one or two Tbsps oil is plenty, just enough to saute the veggies. Thought that the recommending to cut the oil in half was a good step in the right direction. I used white vinegar since the recipe was not more fully descriptive. Used olive oil. The dish had a lot of tang but that was the intent. I sauteed the veggies in the oil then added the rest of the sauce, if that's what you want to call it, to warm it and dissolve the sugar. Don't be too harsh on the ketchup, it is after all tomatoes.
No savory dish here. It's on the other side of the aisle. It's sticky sweet spicy tangy and hot depending on how much hot sauce and pepper added.
The lack of detail in the recipe makes me think the author used "on hand" ingredients to make up a dish. It could be your cup of tea if you're inclined to those flavors.

Well this is stupid. An hour before school lets out and I get a recorded call informing me that the bridge overpass that Karma and lots of other kids use to cross the busy street is 'as of this morning' closed due to safety reasons. Therefore they will be bussed across the street to two different locations which are nowhere near where the bridge is. Good Lord. So I've got to make sure I get a hold of Keegan and let him know the location closest to our house. Wish me luck. He broke his phone a week ago...
Called the school to make sure she knows which location to be dropped off at. I'm sure they are being inundated with phone calls right now, but I can't help it. This crap makes me a nervous wreck....

Ang, sure it'll work out but that has to be nerve-racking! How are you feeling today otherwise?

Laurie, I was thinking of making similar cookies with cut up chocolate bars b/c my beau came home a couple weeks ago with 20 (yes 2-0) chocolate bars he bought from one of his employees for their child's fundraiser. What the heck am I going to do with all that? I suggested we put them out at our Halloween party along with the other candy but he thought it'd be tacky (b/c they had the little thing on the label saying what charity they were for - I could care less! I mean, he paid for them..) One of my friends who came is a choco-holic so I gave him a couple and once people saw that they were asking "Ooohh, where's the chocolate?!" so we brought more out. They descended on it like ravenous animals hahaha ended up with only 2 bars left. Whoo! might still make some cookies out of them :)

Hi Wynne, your dinner sounds good!

    Hi Laura!

Well, I just got the call that he's leaving work so we're off to vote.

  • sparow64 13 years ago said:
LOL Dahlia on him not putting the chocolate bars out...I would have totally cut them up at the little lines (if they had sections) and put them on a little tray! Glad you got rid of most of them. Using them in cookies is an awesome idea!

Pat...to pull up your own recipes that you've posted, go to your profile, click recipes, there is a little box (not really a box) with a magnifying glass that will appear. Type the name of the recipe in there, and it will pull it up. I finally got a little input from Kristopher on using the search, cause I thought it didn't work. They are going to eventully tweak it, but, for now, say you are looking for "Baked Spaghetti"...well, the search will find everything with the word "baked" as the cooking method, so that's no good, BUT, if you type in "spaghetti" it will only bring up the spaghetti recipes, and you can find it more easily than going thru all your recipes.
Recipes other foodies posted that you have saved are in the "bookmarks" tab. Search them the same way.
I used this a couple of weeks ago when we first started all the soup talk, and just searched "soup" in my recipes. It brought up 2 pages, of only my soups, so that was cool. I have brought some up by exact name, too, but when there is a word in there that the site thinks is a cooking method, it brings up everything with that method and everything with that in the name, in no particular order, so you have to tweak it a little.
Was that clear as mud?? lol

Ang, hope the girls get home. Be nice if they let you know sooner...wonder when they found out? And SHAME on the DOT in your area for not having it on the local news, at least last night! Stuff like that is announced ahead of time here, it's big help. Let us know how they do!

    Still no clue about supper...lol

Lori, eventually I think those 2 leftover chocolate bars will make it into a cookie recipe sometime soon but my beau requested Cocoa Krispie cookies so my plan is zucchini bread (I didn't end up making it today), those apple cider muffins, and then the cookies.. I have a baking plan lined up haha!

Brooke, my picture is of mini pumpkins. They are real, on the vine/stem and they have thorns as roses do. I found them while shopping at our farmer's market with my friend while my beau was at work. I had never seem them before and was excited to bring them home to show them to him. When I got home he came down to help me with the packages and saw the plants on my back seat and told me he bought the same thing at Trader Joe's on his way home from work. SO crazy! Neither one of us had seen them before and both wanted to surprise the other and show them haha! We ended up with the perfect amount to fill our vase so it worked out perfectly. Thanks for the kind congrats :) And about the photos.. sometimes my guy gets annoyed with the fact that I take pics of everything before we eat.. oh well! Start snapping some pics, lady!

Janet, thanks for your kind words! I agree on the horseradish not being spicy. I think breadcrumbs rather than Panko may have yielded more crisp results and maybe preserved juiciness though I really don't have any complaints!
